MLB LIVE🔴 Atlanta Braves vs St. Louis Cardinals – Jul 13, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
Just about set to go now. And starting in this one, Matthew Liberator and Singi. We were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots. I’ve just been so impressed with when it seems like there’s more pressure, he’s more calm and settles in. He’s done an incredible job with runners in scoring position. Most guys, they get a little tight, they start to aim the baseball, but for some reason he gets looser, the ball comes out of his hand with more life, and he’s able to wiggle off the hook of, you know, tough situations and get his team back in the dugout. Ronald Akuna Jr., the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. And another ball slider right there one strike. That one missed. Just missing off the plate there according to the umpire and out there on the mound. Maybe trying to get an explanation. Can’t say he’s convinced, but it looks like he’s accepted it. Swing and a miss. Three and two now. Another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. That one misses. So, a lead off walk. His ability to draw walks has been something that’s been part of his career since day one. Matt Olsen. Here is Matt Olsen. Pickoff move to first. Akuna dives back in a bit behind with that swing. It’s strike one. Liberator measures 6′ 4 in. He features a fourseam fast ball, a slider, a sinker, a cutter, and he occasionally uses a curve. That one outside. One ball won’t strike. The one-1 is fouled off. Miss him. Chopped out in front of the plate. On the run. Throw to first. Now he launches a throw over his head. Headed for the plate. Head first slide and he’s safe and it’s one- nothing. Batting third. Oh, just a total breakdown defensively right there. I mean, allowing a run to score all the way from first because of an error pretty much shouldn’t happen. But every once in a while we see one of these weird plays and it leaves everyone kind of scratching their heads. Austin Riley in the box now. No balls in a strike. Riley is one of those players that made his presence known in the majors right away. He hit a 438 ft home run off a Michael Walk fast in his second at bat, which is probably the best way to make a first impression as a rookie. Boo. And that one is lifted in the air. Burlson makes the grab. One down. Exactly. Here’s Brian Sneakers line up for the Braves. This is an offense, Chris, that’s having a hard time scoring runs right now. Yeah, sometimes things just aren’t going to click and unfortunately what happens is players press. They try to do a little bit more and they get out of their game. You’ve got to let the game come to you. If you chase it, it’s going to run from you. So, this is a team that just needs to calm down, relax, and understand that they’re going to come out of this. Shawn Murphy at the plate now. That’s ball one. Olsson leads off second with one gone in the inning. Two balls. No. This one in the dirt. Next offering is fouled back. Fouls one off. Two and two on the ground. Aronado to first in time. That’s an out now. Batting Juren Profar. Leftielder Jurson Profar. First offering misses badly for ball one. They’ve got him working a little harder in this first frame than he anticipated. And now the lefty. That’s off the inside corner. And now two and 0. Just missed. Good pitchers make pitches in big situations. And right here with a middle of the order hitter up, runner in scoring position. He’s got to find a way to throw a quality strike. at 96. That pitch is in for a strike in the air left field down the line. Newbar right there to make the grab. And that is that. One run, one hit, one error, and one left. On to the bottom of the first. It’s the Braves one and the Cardinals nothing. Back here in St. Louis now, the starting pitcher in this one, Grant Holmes. Chris, how about a scouting report? And a guy like this is going to keep you in the ball game. He’s going to go out there, compete. Not going to see a whole lot of flare and flash, but he’s going to hand it over to the bullpen at some point. And if you’ve been able to score a few runs, you’ll be in it late. So, we’ll see if he’s able to do that for this club in this one. So now here’s the Cardinals designated hitter, Brendan Donovan. And there’s a foul ball. Pretty good pitch there to take a rip at. He wants to get his arms extended. He likes the ball away from him a little bit, just not able to square it up. That clips a corner. That one’s upstairs. See if he can go upstairs a little bit. Make sure you miss up and out of the zone since you’re heading the count one two. Don’t miss in the zone cuz that’s where you get hurt. Next pitch way upstairs. Got him swinging. went back to the fast ball and it was effective. He’s locked in at the plate when he’s using the whole field. He was out in front there. Just needs to let the ball travel a little more and his timing will be back on track. Good pitch for the strike out. Win next up for the Cardinals. just missed. Let’s win. One out. Base is empty. The shorts stop takes a ball. And now two and two. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Foul ball. Another 2-2 upcoming. Eighth pitch of the at coming up. Ground ball. Austin Riley. zips it to first and the home first. Moving along quickly today. Two gone. Here’s a Cardinal lineup now. And Chris, this group has been struggling to put up runs lately. Well, they haven’t been on base a ton. And even when they are, they haven’t been hitting very well with runners on base. So, they need a player or two to really step up, have some quality at bats, hit according to the situation, and sort of break out of this. I think if they do, the rest of this lineup will follow. popped in the air left field. Profar settles under it, makes the grab back here in St. Louis. Second inning, set to go. And here’s the rookie catcher, Drake Baldwin. Liberator back to work. Drilled out towards left center field. That’s well struck. High bounce takes it over the fence for an automatic double. The automatic double kind of feels like enjoying cruise control in your car. Boo. You don’t need to keep the pedal down as you cruise into second base. Just no worries in the world. You know what? He put a really good swing on that one. Runner in scoring position. No outs. And next for Atlanta, Azie Ali. That’s a strike and it’s 0 and one. Baldwin stands at second with no outs. That’s a ball. Gary Simmons has the plate duty in this one. Well, with Simmons, it’s not always your standard strike zone. Boog. It kind of gives a little extra in some parts of the zone and then can be tighter in others. But I think the important thing is he doesn’t get labeled as inconsistent. So, you got to stay ready up there. Yeah. One of those umpires you just have to know what to expect, right? Exactly. Text offering upstairs. Liner caught in second. From up here, it looked like that liner might be splitting the gap in right center. That’s one of those atom balls you just have to live with as a hitter. Nick Allen next up for the Braves. That clips the inside corner for a strike. Man, I mean, nice job just presenting it to be better than it actually was. That’s hard hit on the line. That’s a base hit. rounds third headed for the plate. Bro is offline and he scores and they take a two-run lead. Puts a run on the board and picks up an RBI. A lot of hitters tell themselves line drive over the infielder’s head. That’s what I’m trying to do. Just keep that approach simple and right there it was perfectly executed on time with everything and pulled it into the gap nicely. So now to the plate for Atlanta, Michael Harris II runner on the goal. Swing and a miss. Throw there. safe. One out and a runner at second here in the top of the second. Squirts away a little bit. swing at a high-fly ball that’s out to center. Scott calls it in and there’s two away. Up next for Atlanta, right fielder Ronald Akunia Jr. back to the leadoff spot in the Braves lineup. Now it’s the right fielder Ronald Akuna Jr. The walk and a run scored his first time. And that one’s a little bit low. Ball one runner at second. Two down. Well, I know they’ve gotten out to an early lead, but you don’t want to take these opportunities for granted with two outs. Still lock in with a quality at bat. Drive in that run. You may not have another runner in scoring position the rest of this ball game. And that just misses. Really good take especially with two strikes. Liner base hit coming home. He’ll score. It’s an RBI single and they lead by three. Well done. Drives in the run. Nice line drive to the pull side right there, but he didn’t spin off of it. That’s the key. You still have to extend through the baseball in order to hit a line drive like that. And now Matt Olsen up to hit. Reached on an infield single his first time to the right side. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. They get two runs on three hits. No errors and one left. We go to the bottom of inning number two. It’s the Braves three and the Cardinals nothing. Back here at Bush Stadium, stepping in, Wilson Contin, and the leadoff man aboard. Batting fifth, left fielder L. Lars New will hit next. And ball one. Let’s go. Let’s go. Let’s go. Let’s go. Swinging a foul out of play. Contrarus gets his lead at first with nobody out. got him looking and he didn’t like the call. Well, definitely a borderline pitch right there and he didn’t look too convinced as he headed back to the dugout. You know, those are tough ones to let go as a hitter, but with the human umpire calling balls and strikes, it’s always going to be on you to protect yourself with two strikes. So, now it’s Dolan Aronado. Pitch misses there. And that is ball one. Nolan Aronado at the plate. Aronado, guy who delivers big time power at the dish and will probably go down as one of the greatest defensive third baseman of all time. Now he breaks his bat and they get Aronado for the out. Well, that actually works out for the hitter. If it’s not a broken bat, it’s hit hard enough for a double play. But with the slower roller, defense does a nice job at least getting one out of it. Here’s Nolan Gorman. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. And speaking of that defense, it’s hard to imagine that in high school, Aronado shared the left side of the infield with another elite defender, Matt Chapman at El Toro High School in California. There’s the strike. 02 is the count. And that one upstairs, ball one. swing and a pop off in foul ground. Riley makes the play and that will end the inning. So, one left for the Cardinals. They trail it here 3 nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. onto the third inning. Now in for the Braves, Austin Riley. Riley was a kid in high school that was scouted by most teams as a pitcher. In fact, 95% of the teams wanted him as a pitcher. But I actually asked him, “Were you interested in being drafted as a pitcher?” And he told me directly, “No, I hated it. My arm hurt all the time.” This one in the air right field and no one can get to it. It’s a foul ball. Grounded to Gorman in plenty of time to first. Leadoff hitter gone in the third. Now batting designated hitter Shawn Murphy. Here’s Shawn Murphy. Grounded out his first time. And it’s fouled away. Next offering is in for a strike. No ball. Two strikes and a foul ball. He stays alive. Next offering popped in the air right field. Two away now batting left fielder Jerickson Profar. Here’s Proar now fly to left his first time. That’s in for a strike. Two outs. Base is empty. started after it, tried to hold up. Now a look to first and he went around according to Patrick Johnson. Runs it up to 96 to record the punch out. Down in order go the Braves. They’re on top by a count of three to nothing. set for the bottom of the third. Here’s the catcher, Pedro Pah. Pedro Pah. Swing and a miss as he was late that time. 01’s the count. Swinging a foul back and that’s out of play. Misses outside and the count is one and two. That’s inside. And they’ll do it again on the ground right side. Tosses to first. One gone. Bottom of the third inning. Batting ninth. Center fielder Victor Scott. the seconds. Now up for St. Louis, Victor Scott. Good defender. He’s been inconsistent offensively. Let’s go, Victor. Upstairs. And another ball. Two balls, no strike. That one’s spoiled. And the count now two and one. Next offering miss is down and away. in the air left field. Proofar racing over to make the catch. Oh, those can be pretty fun as an outfielder. Got to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down. Nothing better than that. You feel like a wide receiver playing football. Line drive base hit. Joey gets on base and keeps it going. Just so sound in his mechanics. Hits against a firm front side and the hands just continue to carry through the middle of the field. Man at first. Next to hit Mason Win. Oh, he doesn’t get the call. And that’s ball one. Donovan off of first with two away. Next pitch, a slider that misses outside. Backto-back breaking pitches away, you get the feeling as a hitter that the pitcher is afraid of you, that he doesn’t want to challenge you. So, I think the confidence level is raised right here. Two outs in for a strike. Now two and one. Nasty two- slider there for a strike. That tells you he’s got a lot of confidence in that pitch. Three balls, two strikes. Great RBI spot here. Just got to stay focused on the pitch. The runner will be in motion. So something in the gap should definitely score it. So now two on and two outs. Not what he wanted to do there, Boo. That keeps this inning alive and gives this offense a good chance to cut into their deficit. First and second, two outs. Alec Burlson now at the plate. He’s 0 for one. And the pitch is outside. Ball one. First and second, two down here in the last half of the third. And that one missing low. Could be some action here on this next pitch. Couple runners on. Probably a challenge pitch coming. Next offering is fouled back. Swing and a miss. Two and two now. First and second. Two down. Good job to fight that one off. outside. Full countdown now. Wilson Contrarus into St. Louis on deck circle. Two on, two outs. Fouled off. And they’ll do it again. 3-2 on the way in the air out towards right center. Akuna there. He makes the grab and that is the third out of the inning. So the Cards strand a couple still down three nothing. Start of the fourth. Now it’s the Atlanta catcher Drake Baldwin. You can do it. Baldwin, 23 years old, and he was a third round pick in 2022. You know, these Braves doing a great job, Boo, of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way. And I’m seeing very patient at bats out of them. It’s not just the three runs they’ve already scored. And on top of that, they forced this starter to throw more pitches than he wanted to at this point of the game on the ground to the left. And that’s just fouled. And that pitch count is impactful because if they can keep making him work hard out there, it may force the bullpen to get involved a little sooner rather than later. Sets him down looking. called strike three and a fast ball up in the zone. Frustrating end to the at bat for the hitter and I’m sure that’s going to sit on him for a little while. You want to be ready to hit the fast ball. Sometimes you can overthink things and I think that was the case right there. Alzo second trip to the plate in this one. Base is empty, one away. Top half of inning number four. Now a pop up on the infield. Gorman makes the grab. Two away now. Man, he just couldn’t lay off right there. Those high fast balls, they just look really good because they’re eye level, but they’re just about impossible to get the barrel to. Nick Allen next up for the Braves. One for one with a single and a run scored so far. outside. Yeah, that skips in the dirt and that’s in there at the knees. Well, it was bumpy in the early going for the lefty, but he settled into a really nice groove. That one fouled off. Two and two. Ground ball left side and it goes just foul. flew open a little bit with that front shoulder, but was able to slow his bat down just enough to make contact with that pitch, keep the bat alive. Highfly ball lifted in the air right field. Burlson makes the catch and that’s the third out. And we’re back. And now the first base, Wilson Contras. Wilson Contrarus. Pretty smart not to serve something up for him right there. He’s really good at hitting the first pitch. And a swing and a miss there. One ball, one strike. That one in the dirt. Two and one. Two and one the count now. He hasn’t seen a fast ball yet, but you’ve got to be ready to hit one because you doubt the pitcher wants this to go to a 3-1 count. Come on. This one chopped up the middle. No play. That’s an infield single. It doesn’t really matter where you are in the lineup. Your job is to get on base and try to start a rally if you’re leading off an inning. So, an infield single does the job right there. Now we’ll see if they can make something happen. So man aboard and here is Lars Newb. There’s the strike. He’s pitching well but not throwing a ton of first pitch strikes. Usually doesn’t work out for success but you can never predict baseball. Right through there for a strike. Don’t play situation here. He’s been working up in the zone. And typically you look for guys to get that ground ball. See if he adjusts on this next pitch. Off the mark there now. One and two. That one just misses. Next pitch is outside. Contrarus aboard here at first with nobody out. Highf fly ball out towards left field. Profile going back and it’s off the wall. Contras headed home. He’ll score easily. Comes through with the RBI. just missed out on a home run right there, but he certainly hit it hard enough. Just didn’t have the right launch angle to carry it over the wall, but still an excellent swing of the bat. Runner in scoring position, no outs. Nolan Aronado next up for the Cardinals and a foul ball. You know, these Cardinals showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. He’s only given up one run, but the starter pitch count is starting to get up there and that might be the best news yet for this offense. And down on strikes and he’s registered three Ks in this one. Well, he went up there trying to be aggressive, that’s for sure. Hacking at those first two pitches, but clearly that last one fooled him. He could have been sitting on something else entirely, but you want to be able to adjust on 0 and two and at least get a swing off when it’s in the zone. Maybe choke up, maybe spread out your stance a little bit. You got to give the guy credit on the mound, though. He went right after it. Gorman takes a ball as he stands in for the second time. You know, sometimes all it takes is getting to the next arm before an offense does any damage, and that might be the case today. man at second. Generally second, third time through the lineup, you want to be able to lean on those secondary pitches and command them. Looks like he’s doing a nice job with it. Outside low and it’s two and one. That one ran inside. Almost got him. One out and a runner at second and ball forward two aboard. Pretty easy walk right there. Last pitch wasn’t even much to think about. Now batting catcher Pedro. And here’s the catcher Pedro Pave rolled out to second in his first at bat. at the dish looking to look the ball in the air in this spot. Anything but the inning ending double play boo. Two on, one out. That one finds the corner. No balls, two strikes. Quickly into an 02 count. Both pitches were down in the zone. I think you set your sights a little bit higher because you’ll have a tendency to chase if you look down in that area. One, two now. Battling here as he fouls it away. One out. Runners at first and second. Fouls it off. Still one and two. Really great change of speeds. He goes off the off speed to the fast ball and the hitter doesn’t know what’s coming next. Squirts away a little bit. Nice job behind the plate there. This ball’s chopped on the ground and it’s just fouled. That was close. Next pitch misses outside. Three and two now. Victor Scott in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. That ball is foul and the pressure is building. Grinding AB right here about to see pitch number 10 and they’re all loaded up. Well, that sets up a really big at bat in this game. These are the moments when everyone in the stadium gets really locked in. So, base is loaded with one away. And up next for St. Louis, Victor Scott. Golden opportunity right here. And immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. This guy absolutely flies. The defense wants to turn two, but they’ve got to get a ball they can do it with. Make sure you get the first out before you try to rush and get two and end up with nothing. And a curve is down and in. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Bryce Elder getting ready to come in for manager Brian Snicker. Bummer. The left-hander also throwing one out. Base is full. Little bit low and it’s two and one. Way to lay off that pitch down. Swings through that one. Two balls, two strikes. Swing. And this one’s bounced to the ground. Olsson to second now, but he’s safe. They pick up a run and now it’s a one-run game. So now the DH spot Brendan Donovan for two hitter Brendan Donovan. First pitch not close. Bases loaded, one away. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. is hit. One run is in and they hold the runner at third. Bases remain loaded here. Still only one gone with the bases juiced. He refused to get Paul happy. He stayed within himself. Drove the ball to center field. That’ll get across a row. Here comes the manager out of the Braves dugout and he will make a move to the pen. Grant Holmes will depart and he’s not going to be happy with himself. New pitcher on the mound in a moment. Now pitching. Here comes a new arm for the Braves. Nathan Wild. Well, no margin for error in terms of throwing strikes with the bases loaded. Just has to execute one pitch at a time to try to get out of this. One down. Mason Win digs in now. That one finds the corner. That’s strike one. Base is loaded. One away. And that one is downstairs. And it’s one and one. He’s looking for a ground ball to get a double play and out of this jam and fouled off. I think ultimately you want to tie him up, get the ball in on the plate so that he can’t get the barrel to it and hit it to the outfield. Swings through it and that’s a strikeout. Certainly a strikeout situation right there. The infield playing back and this pitcher has to step up and get the swing and miss. Really nice job of attacking the hitter at the plate. Pretty big two out at bat coming up now. And now the right fielder Alec Burlson for two in this one. And that misses. And that’s ball one. Two outs and that one missing inside. A sharp slider. Pressure’s on right here. Two count. Base is loaded. You don’t want to fall to a three ball count and then walk in or on. He’s got to challenge the hitter right here. Missed with a change up. Three balls, no strikes. Look, in situations like these, the air can get really thin up there at the plate. Got to find a way to breathe and slow everything down. Pah at third. Scott at second. Donovan on at first with two now. Swung on. Belted way back there. One runs in and it bends off the wall and it will play the relay. It’s offline and he scores. It’s a three-run game. 63. Taking a bit of a chance swinging at that 3 0 pitch, but nobody is questioning it after multiple runs come home to score on the play. Now standing on second with the double and feeling really good about it. So runner at second, two down. Wilson Contrarus now up to the plate. He’s two for two. Line drive makes the play and it’s out number three. So in the end, 10 come to the plate. Six of them come around to score. We played four. It’s the Cardinals six and the Braves three. Back here in St. Louis, ready now for the fifth inning. Digging in, Michael Harris II. Liberator back to work and delivers outside. and he swings and lifts one to deep center field. That’s back onto the track and he makes the catch. Well, I think the key, I mean, if he can get through one more inning. Anything after that, a hitter or two is bonus, but they should be lined up good enough to get to the finish line. Here’s Ronald Akuna Jr. He wrote a terrific piece before the season that detailed his love for baseball. Yeah. He and his friends would play at the beach, in a huge lot behind the hospital, or out on the street. All they needed was a newspaper and some tape. And they were ready for a game. And that’s in there for a strike. And quickly nothing at two. The Red Birds leading by three. And we’re in the top of the fifth. misses off the inside. Going to count one and two. His understanding the strike zone very impressive. That was a very close 02 fast ball. I just don’t know how you take that. St. Louis. Yeah, the one two misses to even the count. That pitch was pretty borderline at the top of the zone and he’s not digging the call out there on the mound. Clearly pretty frustrated. So, he’s going to have to collect himself a little. That one misses. And that’s ball three. That’s a good at bat right there. He was down early in that plate appearance. Works the walk. Very close off the outside corner. Could have easily been called a strike in that location. One gone, runner at first. Matt Olsen next up for the Braves. First pitch misses. Right through there for a strike. Man at first. One away. Next offering is downstairs. Two balls, one strike. Fast ball is outside. Swanging grounder. Foul first base side. down. Foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch. Knocks that one away. And we’ll do it again. Good battle here. About to be the eighth pitch of the at bat. Fouls that off to the left and we’ll do it again. gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. Gets a piece and stays alive. Bell having such a tough time putting him away. Six foul balls in a row. Man, what a battle. Line drive, base hit, and they have their first hit since the second inning. But when you see that many pitches in an at bat, your chances of succeeding go up. And right there, we see the result. Two on, one out. Here comes Austin Riley. Got it started a little too early. Strike one. Oh, and one that one way inside. Action in the St. Louis bullpen. Sunny Gray appears to be getting loose. Palante a hard throwing right-hander up as well. Two on, one out. Good eye in that spot. Definitely a swing and miss slider down and in. He finished that really well. Just couldn’t get him to offer at it. Still two and two after the foul ball. Swings through that one. It’s a strike out. gets talked about a lot, but a good high fast ball in a two strike situation, it’s just become such a problem for hitters in more recent years. With all of the emphasis by pitchers on developing that spin rate, having a good grip on the baseball, those high fast balls, they kind of look like to the hitter that they’re rising even though they’re not, but they’re not decreasing in velocity and spin rate. So, very difficult to get the barrel on. Murphy in the box again, takes the strike. Two outs. Couple of base runners at first and second. Next pitch is outside. Swing and a miss. And that’s strike two. One, two. fights it off. He’ll see another fights that one away. Still one and two. Akuna the lead runner at second. Olsen at first. Two out in the inning. Foul ball still a one and two count. ripped on a line. Nuke makes the grab and that is that two left for Atlanta and can’t cut into that 6-3 deficit. We head to the bottom of the fifth down to left fielder Lars Newbar Nuke. Swang and a miss. You know, these cards putting together some really good at bats in this game. There’s been a lot to like with how they’re approaching their chances at the plate. It looked to me like they really wanted to get to the starter early, get him out of the game before he settles in. So, I’d say mission accomplished. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Just indecisive in that at bat. He couldn’t commit to the slider. Tried to sit in between. Just not able to put the bat on the ball. Here’s Nolan Aronado. That’s smashed towards center. Harris makes the grab and there’s two gone. Now batting second base and stepping in for the Cardinals, Nolan Gorman. and a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Two down, nobody on. Last half of inning number five. Way inside. There’s a swing and a try. That one back there. That’s not coming back. His ninth homer of the year. And they add a run. It’s 73. That’s a swing that’ll boost the win probability for sure. change up in the zone is a hitter’s dream. It’s a BP fast ball, but you’re playing in real time. Most times the pitcher asking for a new baseball just like right there. Two outs, nobody on. And now the Cardinals catcher, Pedro Pah. Swing and a miss. Strike one. Oh, and one. Right through there for a strike. cut on and miss. Struck him out. That K is his third of the game. One scores in the inning coming on this solo home run. It’s now 73. Major League Baseball is on the show. We’re back and they make a change to start the sixth. The new pitcher, Sunny Gray. This guy’s a strike thrower. He’s done an excellent job of avoiding walks so far this season. Here’s the switch hitting left fielder, Juriken Profar. Profar gets a piece there. You know, these Braves really impressing me with the quality of their bats in this one. It’s been fun getting a chance to see him go to work. They really made that opposing starter work in this one. Ran his pitch count up and now they’ve got an opportunity to continue making things difficult on the bullpen. Drake Baldwin. So now to the plate for Atlanta, Drake Baldwin. And no, they haven’t broken through in a big way in the runs column, but with the way they’re grinding out at bats, it definitely feels like there’s potential for more coming. One’s the count. One ball, one strike. Move into the bullpen for the Cardinals. Phil Modd, the veteran right-hander, appears to be loosening up. King, the lefty, warming up as well. The Cardinals leading by four and we’re the top half of the sixth. So now one and two. One down, base is empty. Swings and misses. Couldn’t catch up to the heater. Oh, nothing too fancy on the strikeout pitch right there. Just a low 90s fast ball. And I’m not sure he was trying to challenge him, but that’s pretty much what happened. Very hitable location, but he found a way to just get it by him. Albbees the next to hit takes outside and another ball. That one’s in there. Two balls in a strike. swing and a ball lifted left field. Nukebar under it and makes the play and that’s out number three. No runs, no hits, no errors. 91 and two scheduled to hit in the home half of the sixth. It’s the Cardinals seven and the Braves three. Bottom of the sixth inning. Digging in. the speedy outfielder Victor Scott. Victor Scott the second. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Popped foul out of play off to the right. Late swing foul to the left. Spoils a two strike pitch and he’ll see another and a ball evens the count. And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. And they’ll do it again. down and in. Moved his feet. Fouled off again and it remains three and two. Good job to fight that one off. Foul ball and it remains a full cow. Okay, take a peek. And a swing and a miss. He battled for a long time, but it finishes with a strike out. You can’t be mad at yourself after an at bat like that one. Back to the leadoff spot in the St. Louis lineup. Here’s the Cardinal DH. Brendan Donovan. Come on, wake up. Just missed. Swinging a liner foul off to the right. Base is empty. One away here in the bottom of the six. Out to short. Allen slings it across. Two up, two down. Now batting shortstop Mason Win. Two outs. Base is empty. Mason win. Next up for the Cardinals. Let’s go. The other way. He dives but he can’t make the catch. And he’ll be safe at first. Boom. That’s staying within his game right there. I mean, this Speedster gets the infield single and now he’s on base to possibly do some damage. I love seeing what guys like this can do to disrupt the game once they get in a position to do so. Burlson stands in now and watches strike one. Two quick outs. Needed to get that third one. Wasn’t able to do it. Now you bring up the heart of this order. You got to find a way to get it done right here. and he’ll one. And a bat like this is almost over as it begins. In this situation, you have no idea what the next pitch is going to be. You just got to hope that you can make contact. Ground ball up the middle. Allen. They take the force out. Third out. The Cards leave one, but they still lead it 73. Top of inning number seven now in for the Braves. Nick Allen. The Braves in striking distance but have some work to do. Boo. It starts with the laidoff man. I need a good at bat out of him right here. Pitch misses inside. Ball one. just missed. That one finds the zone and it’s two and one. Now in this situation, you expect the batters to be a little more patient, possibly take until they get a strike. With that, you don’t want to miss your opportunity to get ahead early in the count. He didn’t right there. fouls one off. Two and two. Line drive. Base hit. Now betting center fielder Michael Harris II. So a man at first and next for Atlanta, Michael Harris II. immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. If you’re going to get something going, this is the time to do it. You get the leadoff man on. Everybody’s got to look over the shoulder and say, “I’m just going to keep the line moving.” Don’t try to do too much. Next offering is in for a strike. Well, it looks like he’s wanting to work the upper part of the strike zone. What does that mean? Top hand better be working for the hitters. Adjust that side a little bit. Give yourself a chance to hit. Swaging a popup. Gorman hauls it in for the out. And there’s one down. That was a good pitch to hit right down the heart of the plate. Had pretty good timing on it. Just got underneath it a little bit and popped it up. Here’s Ronald Dun Jr. at the plate. That’s off the mark. One and0 in the dirt. Right through there for a strike. Allen stands at first with one out. Next pitch is outside. There’s the strike. Thank you. Ground ball could be two. There’s one out on the first double play and that’s the inning. Starting to run out of outs as they’re unable to chip away. Seventh inning stretch time. It’s the Cardinals seven and a Braves three. Back here in St. Louis, set for the last half of the seventh. Now up the Cardinals number four hitter Wilson Contrus. That one finds the zone. And that’s strike one. Go comes up empty. That’s strike two. 02 is the count. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Now five strikeouts for him on the mound. And now here is Lars Newbar. gets the outside corner with that one. Let’s go St. Louis. Come on St. Louis. Line drive and it stays fair. Makes the turn and heads for second. In safely, it’s a double and his second hit. Two hits for him in this one. both for extra bases. Got to feel good about that. Hooked around that pitch on the outside, but he was still able to square it up pretty nicely. And that takes quick, strong wrist to pull that off. One out, runner at second. Here’s Nolan Aronado 0 for three in this one. And first off is fouled off. One out and a runner at second here in the bottom of the seventh. Next one misses. Ball and a strike to Aronado. And that’s outside. Not really attacking on the mound in this at bat. All breaking balls. So that makes me think they’re not really wanting to challenge him here. That one fouled off. Two and two. Next offering is outside. Runner at second here. One gone. out to short Allen. The throw to first and they get Aronado for the out. Now batting second base Nolan Nolan Gorman getting ready to hit. He’s already homered here in this one. In this situation with first base open, he shouldn’t give him anything to hit. There’s a right-hander on deck. swings and blasts one deep to left center. Proofar makes his way towards it and he hops over the wall for an automatic double. A run comes in on the play. He puts a great swing on that pitch and drives home the run and that was always going to be a double, but the bounce over the wall just took the guesswork out of it right away. It was a nice swing. Here comes the skipper and we’re going to see a pitching change in this spot. Nathan Wilds departs and he’s responsible for the runner on second, so the book isn’t closed on him yet. We’ll be right back. Now pitching new pitcher for the Braves, Aaron Bummer. And with the big deficit on the scoreboard, he almost has to just put that out of his mind. Every outing matters for relievers in their numbers, but I think it’s tough to get up for this type of appearance the same way you would for one in a close game. So, runner at second, two down. Pedro Pah will hit next. And that’s him for a strike. It’s 0 and one. That one drifts inside. Two outs and one in scoring position on the ground to first and foul ball. Man on second, two down. Swinging a ground ball up the middle. Alb’s over to first in time. Inning over and it could have been worse. So they pick up a run on two hits. No errors in a man left. Eighth inning coming up. It’s the Cardinals eight and the Braves three. Now pitching. Welcome back. And a new arm on the mound to start the eighth. Phil. Oh, he’s having an excellent season so far. Erra is under two. Lot of flexibility coming out of the bullpen. Yeah, the batter now Matt Olsson put together a great bat last time. Really battled. Ended up with the base hit. had a curve drops in for a strike. Oh, I think that pitch surprised all of us. Right down the middle doesn’t get a swing. Not very often you see a hitter lay off a cookie like that. Breaking ball inside. Yeah, the count one and two. Well, he’s not afraid to fall into a two- strike count. Knows the strike zone very well. So much so that I think umpires will look at him and determine whether it’s a ball or strike, if he swings or not. To the right side, Gorman fires over to first and Olen is set down. Now batting third baseman Austin Riley. Here is Austin Riley 0 for three. A fly out, a ground out, and a strike out. Swings through that one for strike one. He’s a bullpen arm that keeps the ball in the ballpark, but obviously out of the bullpen, you’re looking to limit home runs. Yeah. And that’s why he’s such a high leverage arm. just doesn’t matter for him. He looks at attacking the zone and attacking hitters regardless of the situation. Activity in the bullpen. Andre Palante, the hardthrowing righty, is up and loosening. And there at the knees. Now he’s in a one-two hole. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Two gone now. Definitely made him chase a little bit out of his own right there. I don’t think that’s a strike if he takes it. Pretty textbook pitching. Get ahead in the count. Get the guy in the box on his heels and then force him to chase your pitch where he doesn’t have much of a chance to do any damage. And that one lifted in the air center field. Scott moving under this one. Makes the grab and that’ll end the inning. And welcome back to the ballpark. Bottom of the eighth. Here’s the center fielder, Victor Scott. If there’s nobody on in front of him, you know, a single for him many times is a double. This guy is off to the races, ready to steal a bag when he’s on first base. Swaging a ball hit out towards left center field and that’ll get down for a hit. Had a good start to the inning. Went up there looking to be aggressive and got something he could handle. That ball right there landed in what they call a no man’s land. Meaning it’s not really a spot on the field where you can expect anyone to get to it easily. I mean, it’s a tough play going back for the shortstop, but also for the outfielders trying to come in. They got to go a long way as well. Scott on at first. Nobody out. Bomber deals and that’s outside. Strike three. Went back to the sweeper and got the strike out. Now batting. So up next, Mason win. Mason win. Snap throw to first and he’s back in there. The kick and the pitch. Runner goes. There’s the ball and that’s a stolen base. Not even close. Clearly not content with the lead they’re working with right now. And I like that. I don’t think you can get comfortable with a five-run lead in today’s game. And now they’ve got a good chance of adding on. The shorts stop takes a ball. Two balls. No strike. And that’s off the inside edge. And it’s three and0. And ball four, two aboard. Bell just came apart right there. Four pitch walk and guy at the plate was not going to help him out by swinging at something out of his own. First and second, one out. Now it’s the right fielder Alec Burlson. Hey, now let’s go. And he swings and misses at the initial offering. And one just missed. That one off the mark. Two and one. It’s a big opportunity right here. But I love the way he’s slowing the game down. He’s shrinking his zone, making sure he gets the pitch that he wants to hit on the ground. Two ball. Safe at second. Now batting first base. Here’s Contraras. Now he’s hit. One run is in. Here’s the throw to the plate. Save it home and the runner scores from second. It’s 103. Picks himself up a couple of ribbies. You’ll often hear the phrase short to it, long through it. And that’s a great example of it right there. Got the barrel in the hitting zone early. Screwed it up with the welltimed swing and came away with a beautiful line drive into center field. Here comes the manager out of the Braves dugout and he will make a move to the pen. Aaron Bummer won’t go any further and the line not closed on him yet as he’s responsible for the runners on base. Back with a new pitcher after this. Dylan Lee into the game. I think it’s got to be a little tough coming in out of the pin when your guys are trailing so big on the scoreboard. Just doesn’t have the same intensity to it. But he’s got to find a way because these batters count the same for his stats obviously regardless of the score. So digging in Lars Newbar and that one popped in the air left fields it in. Two away. Now batting third baseman Nolan Aronado. So first and second with two outs. Nolan Aronado next up for the Cardinals. And that’s in for a strike. Movement in the Atlanta bullpen. Bryce Elder getting ready to go. Hernandez also throwing. Two on, two outs. And there’s a breaking ball that drops in there. No walls, two strikes. Swinging a ground ball and that’s just fouled. Two on, two outs. Cold strike three on the fast ball and that ran back over the other half. They put two on the board on two hits, no errors, but two are left stranded. Ninth inning coming up. It’s the Redbirds 10 and the Braves three. And we’re back. New inning getting started. So now to the plate for Atlanta. Jurgson Proar. Mah back to work. Outside low ball one. in the air to left center. New bar on the move and he makes the catch. One down. Now batting catcher Drake Baldwin. Here’s the catcher to hit Drake Baldwin. One for three. Check swing called. Strike. Strike one. Base is empty. One away. You’re at the top of the ninth. That one finds the zone. And that’s strike two. And that’s downstairs and outside. Bows it off. Still one and two. Swing and a miss. And they’re down to their last out. Good pitch right there. I mean, he’s attacking a location that this guy at the plate tends to have trouble with. And there’s just so much information in this day and age. Sometimes too much information. But the guys that can take that information, process it, and then go out there, boo, and execute the pitch, go right after that hitter and get the result that they were anticipating. That’s really good pitching right there. And it’s a good job of the pitcher and the catcher working together. The Braves down to their last out now in for the Braves. Azie Alby’s just missed. Outside corner for a strike. Two down to he swings and fouls one off. The Braves down to their final strike on the ground right side. Dives, but it kicks off his glove. The throw won’t get there in time and he’s on at first. Now batting short stop Nick Allen. So up next, Nick Allen outside corner. There’s the strike. One’s the count. They’re down to their final strike. Quickly down 02 in the count. I think you got to choke up a little bit. Spread out the feet. You don’t know what the velocity or the location of this next pitch is going to be. Got him. And that is the ball game. Well, the fourth inning proved to be the real turning point. They looked locked in at the plate after that first time through the order where it just seemed that they were off balance a little bit, but once they started really recognizing the pitches, everything started to click. Final score here today, 103 for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shambi. Thanks for joining us. Heat. Heat.
