MLB LIVE🔴 Toronto Blue Jays vs Oakland Athletics – Jul 13, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
just about set to go. Getting the nod in this one, Luis Severino. But Chris, he hasn’t exactly been stellar here on his home mound. Well, I’ll say this. Every player wants to perform well at their home ballpark in front of their fans, in front of the city. And you know, this guy no different. He wants to be more effective here. So, you know, you look at the numbers, they haven’t been great at home. I’m sure he wants to turn that around and we’ll see if he’s able to start that in this one. Nathan Lucas, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. Off the mark there. And that’s ball two. And that’s too high. I got three and0. And the sweeper is in for a strike. Fast ball for a strike. Three and two now. And boy, that was the pitch. 3-1. You want to be really aggressive on the fast ball. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. flew open a little bit with that front shoulder, but was able to slow his bat down just enough to make contact with that pitch, keep the bat alive. [Applause] Severino kick, steals, hit hard on the ground to short over to first. So, it was a long battle at the plate, but they still managed to get the out. Let’s take a look at the lineup for the Blue Jays. a guy who’s been huge for them over the last month plus. Ernie Clement. Well, Boog, there aren’t many guys who have a flare for the big moment like he does. I mean, batting over 400 with runners in scoring position. Are you kidding me? I I know it’s not guaranteed or an automatic, but I hope we get to see him in a close late game situation with runners in scoring position and just see is he truly a machine or not. George Springer, the next to hit, takes ball one. Next offering is fouled back. One out. Base is empty. Line drive. Come on. Nothing you can do about those as a hitter. Even though you know that they still drive you absolutely crazy. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Two outs. Base is empty. Next to hit, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Vlatty, 25 years old, and he was born in Canada. And they’ll do it again. Two out. Space is empty. Next offering is down low. Spoils a two strike pitch. And he’ll see another. Here’s a one. Two. Got him looking and good work there as he gets a one, two, three. Nothing doing for the Blue Jays. And now the Athletics offense gets its first shot here. No score. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. Back here with my pal Singi. And on the hill in this one, Max Scherzer. Chris, it’s a little more common these days, but still he’s a strikeout per inning type of guy. Well, I hear you about the strikeouts. a lot more guys striking out today. But when you consider having the ability to get that strike out, particularly when you need it, a man on third, less than two outs, situations where yeah, maybe you’re not a real high strikeout guy, but just knowing you have the swing and missed stuff in a big spot, I think it’s real critical. And he’s got it. Lawrence Butler leading things off and takes the strike. So, here’s Sherzer. Just missed [Applause] that one way inside. You tie a guy up like that, you’re feeling like you are in command. Spoils that one and it remains two and two. Good eye right there. Really good take, especially with two strikes. Foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch. [Music] That one misses. So, a lead off walk. Oh, looking for a swing anding miss right there or for the ump to help him out and make a call with that last pitch, but neither happened. Close pitch, but a good take to earn that walk. Next up for the A’s, Brent Rooker. Hit on the ground up the middle. That’s a base hit. Lead runner to second. So, two on and nobody out. Didn’t take long to get a result for that at bat. Couldn’t get any air under it. Smoked that ball back up the middle. timing was just perfect. Got great wood on it and there was just no chance for the infielders with how hard he hit it. And a dangerous hitter coming to the plate. Kurts now at the plate. There’s the strike. [Music] [Applause] Swung on. Belted. Strong on the move. Heading back. Banks off the wall. Doesn’t stop. Heads for home. He’ll score on the board first. It’s one zip. Well, that’s a big swing of the bat. Driving in the run with the two bagger. Pretty good fast ball location down and in on the corner, but that was just a nice job to handle it and hit it hard. Very tough spot to get the barrel to most of the time though. And now a chance for Shay Langalers. I’m curious how he decides to attack on the mound. This guy at the plate has been great hitting under pressure this year. That one outside and that is ball one. At this point, the clean inning is over. Got to settle in, focus on the hitter and get out of it with minimal damage. [Applause] And that one is inside. Sing. Maybe some nerves getting the best of him in the first. Well, it’s hard to know exactly if it’s nerves or not, but he just doesn’t have it right now. Those hitters on the other side, they’re going to say it’s nerves and use that as a competitive edge to try to jump on him even more. Two and0 to Cal. Here it comes. Swinging a foul out of play. [Applause] And that drops in for a strike. Just a cement mixer slider right there. It’s a great pitch to hit if you can recognize it early and jump on it. off the mark there. Three balls, two strikes. That’s a really good take. [Applause] And they’re all loaded up. Oh, that sets up a really big at bat in this game. These are the moments when everyone in the stadium gets really locked in. Base is loaded. Nobody out. Tyler Soderstroke up next for the A’s. Check swing. He went too far and it’s a strike. Oh, and one [Applause] and that misses. One ball, one strike. A strike out. and you need a ball perhaps on the ground for a double play or get yourself a popup something. But you got to make some pitches. But if he can battle and get through this, he can earn some points. [Applause] Rooker at third. Kurts on second. Langelers out at first with nobody out. [Applause] [Applause] He goes down looking. Frustrating end to the at bat for the hitter. And I’m sure that’s going to sit on for a little while. You want to be ready to hit the fast ball. Sometimes you can overthink things and I think that was the case right there. Here’s Miguel and Duhar. That breaking ball drops in for a strike. Well, all eyes on the double play ball in this spot. No better way to get out of this inning. [Applause] Kicks and fires. Swings through the fast ball up in the zone. Just threw that fast ball by him. Elevated. And if you’re not looking up in that location, very difficult to catch up to, especially with that velocity. Swing and a pop up. Foul territory for the catcher. Makes the grab and there’s two gone. And time now to check out the A’s lineup. Batting second, a really important guy for them, Brent Rooker. Yeah, definitely someone I always enjoy, you know, when I get a chance to watch him, whether he’s hitting in a game or even taking swings during batting practice. Man, this guy is always so focused on what he’s doing on that task at hand. He’s got so much attention to detail that when he steps in the box, his success rate is really high. Maxy at the plate now. That’s ball one. Base is loaded. Two down. [Applause] And a strike. I got a ball. What’s right? [Applause] On the ground to the left and it’s just fouled. That was close. Definitely got the hitter conscious of the pitch inside. really think the outer half is open in the air right field. Barker sizing this one up and that will end the inning. A’s get one on the RBI double. It’s now a one- nothing ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show and welcome back to the ballpark. Come on. Severino back to work. The shorts stop takes the ball. Hit in the air left field and makes the grab. And there’s one down. [Applause] And here is Addison Barger. Good power. Not great in the OBP department. Close but called a ball and it’s one and0. Evidently not too impressed with that call and it feels like he got squeezed on the outside corner. So he’s making his case. You got to be careful to pick your spots in terms of showing your frustration with the umpire. and he felt this was his time. Ground ball left side onto first. Two away. Batting six catcher Alejandro Kirk. So up next for Toronto, Alejandro Kirk. It’s amazing. We get a chance to talk to a lot of opposing managers. This guy scares managers on the other team as much as anyone. and he gets to fly beneath the radar with the other more recognizable names in this lineup. Nope, that’s a ball. Swaging a ball hit out towards left center field. He dives, but he can’t make the catch and that extends the inning. put a pretty good jolt into that one. Great swing, nice balance and weight transfer, and he got it to drop in out there in the deep part of the field. So, digging in, Will Wagner at 96, that pitch is in for a strike. [Applause] Let’s go and bring it home. And ball one. Kirk off of first with two away. That one misses and it’s two and one. Two balls, one strike. Late swing. Fouled to the left. Strike him out. Swing at a line drive. That’s a base hit into center field. So that’s two straight two out hits. Two consecutive base hits for these guys here. That pretty much split the zone down the middle. And those are the ones where you got to make them pay. So, up next, Ernie Clement. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. [Applause] Two outs. down the left field line. Should be extra bases. Kirk rounds third headed for the plate. He comes across to score and the Blue Jays tie it up. Play at the plate. Got it there. That ends the inning and stops things from getting out of hand. So they get one run on three hits, no errors, and a runner left. Now to the bottom of the second, all tied 1-1. Bottom of the second. Here’s the second baseman. Zack Gellof gets the outside corner with that one. Oh, one’s the count. Clips the corner. Go and two. Just a really nice slider down and in there. He wants to get the hitter thinking fast ball. Speed him up and just subtract some velocity and add a little movement. [Music] Just misses the mark outside the zone. Got him swinging. Tied him up on a fast ball inside. Beat him inside on that last pitch. And when you look back at the pitch sequence on that strike out, it’s pretty interesting. Away, in, away, and then back in again. Really commanded both sides of the plate right there. And that makes it pretty tough to get comfortable in the box. Denzel Clark up next for the A’s. And there’s the strike. 0 and one. lifted in the air right field and it falls. So the one out hit turns the lineup over. Now batting designated hitter Lawrence Butler. [Applause] And here is Lawrence Butler worked to walk in his first trip to the plate. Sher to first and he’s back safely. This is a great dynamic right here. Speedy runner at first. Thinking about taking second. Catcher with the pop time that leaves Jaws on the floor. This might get interesting. Boo. And that one’s a little bit low. One and0, [Music] baby. Let’s go. A little out front there as he swings through it. Mike Filmore, our played umpire, very consistent with his zone. Chris, gets a lot of praise for that. He does, Boog. And I think that with any umpire, you really just want them to be consistent. Filillmore’s a guy that does a good job back there in that way. So, people around the league really appreciate his consistency. That to right. Barker flashes the leather on the run and catch. Maybe caught that one off the end just a little bit. Couldn’t quite barrel it up enough to really drive it. Brent Rooker. Now a chance for Brent Rooker. Let’s go, baby. Let’s go. [Applause] There’s the strike. Now, if he’s going to steal second, you want him to go early in the count. That way, he’s not a distraction to the hitter at the plate. Go ahead and get it out of the way so the hitter can focus on the pitch. tied up here in the early going. Swings and misses. 0 and two now. More and more guys are looking to slog regardless of the count in this situation. We’ll keep a close eye on his approach. Sherzer deals. Cut on and missed. And it’s a strikeout. And that is the inning. The A’s strand one. Score remains tied 1-1. Onto the third inning. And now for the Jays. Miles Straw. Miles Straw. It really feels like we might be running out of time before a rain delay is called. This rain is not letting up. Yeah. And if we do get a delay, the unfortunate thing is the clock’s going to start ticking on these pitchers and they won’t be able to keep their arms warm forever if it’s a long break and going to have to exit this game a little early. That one missed now three and he never moved cuz he never had time to. But that kind of velocity, you’d prefer that pitcher work away. Severino. It’s a lead off walk and that’s the go-ahehead run. That just came apart right there. Four pitch walk and guy to play was not going to help him out by swinging at something out of the zone. So the lineup flips over and next for Toronto. Nathan Lucas grounded out his first time out of line out towards center. pulls it in for the out. And there’s one away. And it’ll be George Springer to step to the plate. 0 for one so far. George Springer. And that’s in for a strike, man. I mean, nice job just presenting it to be better than it actually was. Severino checks over to first and he’s back. Straw over at first with one away. Here goes the runner. Pitches low, bro. And they got him. Nice little battle of speed versus power right there. Great wheels on the base pass. Top tier arm behind the dish. Really good transfer from that glove to the throwing arm. Got it down there in a hurry. That’s why he doesn’t get tested very often. Hit on the ground to short and he’ll be safe at first. Now batting first. That’s a pick you want to come up with as a first baseman. That’s how you win that gold glove. But it’s never on him to take the error on a throw like that. And he’ll probably tell you he should have picked his teammate up, but he gave it a good effort. Just couldn’t get it to stick. So two down. Here’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr. struck out looking in his first at bat. Check swing called strike. [Applause] Two gone, but the go-ahead run is at first. We’re here in the top half of inning number three. Pitch misses outside and one and one and that one fouled off. [Applause] him out. Two outs. Swings through that one. It’s a strike out. So, no runs on no hits, one error, and a runner left. We head now to the home half of inning number three. All tied 1-1. And we’re back. And now the first baseman, Nick Curts. First baseman, Nick Curts. Max Scherzer back to work. And there’s a strike on the outside corner. Wow. Just a beautiful back door slider right there. If you’ve got any chance of hitting that pitch, you have to wait until the absolutely last millisecond. Just a tough pitch to hit and not an easy one to throw either. 0 and two now. And that one almost hit him. Well struck right field. Hits the fence around first. Digging for two. Not in time. That’s a leadoff double. There he is coming through with the knock right there. I like the fact that he can pick him up and put him down a little bit. First baseman aren’t known for the speed, but see him get that extra base hit there. Now he’s in scoring position. Runner in scoring position. No outs. Shay Langalers the next to hit. He reached out to walk his first time. That’s inside. And that’s ball one. You know, these A’s doing a great job, Boo, of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way. And I’m seeing very patient at bats out of them. He’s only given up one run, but the starter pitch count is starting to get up there. And that might be the best news yet for this offense. Late with the swing there. You know, sometimes all it takes is getting to the next arm before an offense does any damage. And that might be the case today. man at second. Popped up first base side. Kurt under it. One down. Good hard fast ball up in the zone right there. They look really good coming in, but so hard to get on top of as a hitter. Soderstrom. So the go-ahehead run at scoring position. Tyler Sodstrom digs in now. His first at bat was a strikeout. Let’s go, baby. And immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. One out and a runner at second here in the last half of the third. fouls it off. Still one and two. That one missing inside. [Applause] the other way and foul ball. Very high with that one. And it’s a full count. Good battle here. About to be the eighth pitch of the at bat. Soderstrom checks his swing. Appeal down to third and Kenny Jansen punches him out. That’s a strike out. He’s got to throw any pitch in any count. 32. He goes off speed gets the out. Miguel Anduhar. Up next for the A’s. First time up was a pop out. Go Chris through the early stages. He hasn’t been very efficient in terms of the pitch count. He’s going to need to get some quick outs if he’s going to get deeper into this game. It is interesting though when you consider the way the game is run now. Doesn’t even matter that much if your starter doesn’t go that deep because teams are really aggressively building their bullpens. Drilled out towards left center field. That’s well struck and an automatic double as it hops the fence as they jump ahead. A run scores. He puts a great swing on that pitch and drives home the run. And that was always going to be a double, but the bounce over the wall just took the guesswork out of it right away. It was a nice swing. So, runner at second, two down. Next up for the A’s, Maxy fly to right. His first time just missed. [Applause] On Duhar at second with two down. on the ground right side. It’s in and out of his glove. Still able to fire over. See, it was never going to be easy after the misplay. Hard to tell exactly what went wrong right there. That was a fairly routine ground ball, but he just couldn’t get it to stick. And the glove might have taken his eye off it a little early, but regardless, you’re going to have to work around that error. So, two outs with runners on the corners. Zack Gella up next for the A’s. That’s outside. Ball one. Corners are occupied with two down. [Applause] That’s bull in the dirt, but no advance from the runners. That one the other way. Clement over to first. They limit the damage here. One run in the inning, but they leave two. Three innings complete. It’s the A’s two and a Blue Jays one out of the four now. The Toronto four hitter, it feels like we might be headed towards a rain delay if the weather doesn’t ease up. Chris, yeah, the umpire and crew are going to pay attention to how the weather is impacting this game. And the moment it becomes dangerous, I think is the moment we’ll be forced to take a breath. They trust him in center field because he’s capable of making plays on the run. And we saw it right there. That’s a player you want patrolling center field. Someone who can attack the ball off the bat. And that one finds its way through. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. Now batting catcher Alejandro in steps the man they call Captain Kirk. One for one with a single so far. That one’s in there 0 and one. Kirk measures 5′ 8 in 245 lbs and he’s a native of Mexico. A’s leading by a run. Lined and that’s a base hit. Throw into third. He’s safe at third and the tying run is 90 ft away. Couple of hits in a row for him here. Nice line drive to the full side right there, but he didn’t spin off of it. That’s the key. You still have to extend through the baseball in order to hit a line drive like that. Runners at the corners here. One away. Here’s the third baseman, Will Wagner. Swing and a ground ball out to short and that one finds its way through. In from third is the tying run and it’s an RBI single. It’s 22. Well, we’re starting over again. All tied up. Not much to this one other than just a willingness to go the other way and put the ball in play. That’s a team at bat right there. Nice job of staying back and letting the ball get deep. Two on, one out. Ernie Clemen next up for the Blue Jays. Grounder might be two. Slings to first in time. Well, there’s a lot riding on that at bat right there. Nice job of the pitcher to bear down, make the pitch, get the ground ball. Excellent piece of work. Straw. So up next for Toronto, Miles Straw walked his first time [Applause] in the dirt. Wow, that’s a great job behind the dish there. First signs of bullpen movement here in the early going. Elvis Alvarado, the rookie right-hander, is getting loose. Sears also throwing. Fast ball in for a strike and a count. One and one. Swing and a miss. And that’s strike two. One, two strikes. Swing and a miss. And that is that a lot of adrenaline. We can see it right there. And sometimes you just got to let it out. That’s an outstanding job of taking that executing and getting out of a tough inning. Bottom of the fourth. Digging in. It’s the speedy outfielder Denzel Clark. Denzel Clark. You know, this guy’s great speed is in the back of that pitcher’s mind. If he can get on, it’s going to give him one more thing he’s got to think about. Pitch is in for a strike. 0 and one. Oh and one. [Music] [Applause] Yeah, that’s downstairs and outside. One ball, two strikes to count. Outside low and it’s two and two. The only adjustment he needs to make is his target. If you aim at the outside corner, that slider’s going to end up way off the plate. Perhaps look a little more down the middle and you get it right where you want it. Not close with that one. And that’s ball three. [Applause] Swinging a ground ball gets it to first. Leadoff hitter retired in the fourth. Now that a designated hitter right to the top of the lineup, Lawrence Butler up next for the A’s. He’s 0 for one. hit on the ground to the right side and that’s just foul. His eyes got big. He saw that change up way out in front. Better to pull it than to get jammed on something off speed like that. Swing and a ball popped in the air. Out to shallow center. Bette makes the grab. Two down. Now batting right fielder Brent Rooker. Two down now. And here is Brent Rooker. One for two. And that misses. And that is ball one. [Music] Foul ball there. Two down, nobody on. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. That misses. Two and two. bows it back with two strikes. Two down to strikes him out for the second time today. So, no runs, no hits, no errors, and no one left. We’re headed to the fifth. We are tied 2-2. And welcome back to the ballpark. Top five, John Shami with Chris Singleton. And leading it off, Nathan Lucas. Severino back to work down and away for ball one. Well, these Jays just aren’t putting great swings on the baseball in this one. Just one extra base hit for him. So, they haven’t exactly been hitting the ball gap to gap or out of the park. That makes it really difficult to generate runs. And a foul ball. [Applause] The two-1 out to short [Applause] throws to first in time and the lead offense set down in their half of the fifth. Here’s George Springer Bowl for two in this one. He’s controlling things out there on the mound. Not messing around at all. He’s been in attack mode since the very start. First offering misses badly for ball one. All tied up and we’re at the top of the fifth. Next offering is in for a strike. [Applause] That’s inside. Inside ball two. And strike two. Instead of letting the hitter get his arms extended, tied him up a little bit. Slightly up, slightly in. Just misses with that one. He should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with the three-hole hitter coming up. AF’s walked. Springer swings, belts one out to left. That’s back. Say goodbye to that one. Just like that, they move in front. It’s 3-2. He absolutely feasts on right-handed pitching and devours that one for a homer. And you can see that’s what he expects of himself at bat after at bat. He’s that confident. Knew what pitch he wanted to hit. Spent on some other pitches in this at bat. Was very patient and it paid off. [Applause] Vladimir Guerrero Jr. now who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. Oh, he doesn’t get the call and it’s one and0 singing. This is a guy that grew up in big league clubouses and it’s something that you see throughout the game. Sons whose fathers also played the majors. Yeah. And beyond that, all the other men in those clubouses that sort of take you under their wing as a son or nephew and show you some of the tricks of the trade. It’s just invaluable that type of experience. [Applause] That one down the line and it goes just fouled. [Music] [Applause] And now the count is even. Oh, this is a guy that can be frustrating for pitchers because he fouls off so many pitches and grinds out the at bat. I’m sure there’s sometimes where a pitcher would rather just give up a first pitch single than have to waste six or seven pitches on one hitter. And a swing and a miss. He’s notched three strikeouts now. Gets a chance to hit. [Applause] There’s the strike. 01’s the count. [Applause] late on that fast ball and down on strikes he goes now. Five strikeouts for him in the m. Toronto picks up one on this homer. It’s now a 32 ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. And we’re back. And here’s the first baseman, Nick Curts, leading off for the Athletics. First baseman, big Max Scherzer goes to work. That one is absolutely belted. High bounce. Takes it over the fence. That’s an automatic double. Well, there’s something really nice about getting yourself an automatic double like that. You get to stroll into second base without having to worry about a throw or getting your uniform dirty. And now you’re just looking for the next guy to kind of do the same thing. Maybe put one in the gap so you can jog home as well. And now here is Shay Langalers. And that’s the strike. [Music] [Applause] Swing an attacker that rolls foul. [Applause] Got him looking. Not what you’re looking for after the leadoff double. A strikeout. And there’s one away. There comes a skipper out of the dugout and he’s ready to make the move. Max Scherzer is done. Gave him a good effort as he exits with a lead and we’ll have a new pitcher when we come back. Now pitching four. Here’s a new pitcher from the pen, Robinson Pñena. This is his third time out this year. So digging in Tyler Soderstrom baby delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. [Applause] Swing and a miss. There’s that change up. Benny really sells the change up with that arm action. [Applause] Swing and a highf fly ball in the air left field. makes the grab and there’s two out. Now batting third baseman Miguel Anduhar. Now the third baseman Miguel Anduhar RBI knock for him last time. Now a chance to drive in another run. [Applause] Grounds one to short. Bette now the throw to first on the run and very nicely done for the out. The A’s strand one. They’re down three to two. [Music] We’re back and they make a change to start the six. The new pitcher JP Sears on for his 20th appearance of the year. JP Sears. So digging in rightiel. This is kind of a tough matchup as a left-handed hitter facing a left-handed pitcher. And what you tell yourself is I want to stay square to the plate. Try to hit the ball over the shortstop’s head. Check swing and he went and that strike. [Applause] fouled off. He was late. [Applause] Owen Chu now. Good job to fight that one off. [Applause] [Music] Swing and a popup. Dunks one into left. Had a good start to the inning. Well, those kind of lucky soft hits will always make you smile. Kind of just punts it out there the other way. He didn’t hit it real hard, but he got just enough of it to dunk it behind the infield. And I tell you what, you’ll take those every day you can get them. Here’s the catcher, Alejandro Kirk. He’s two for two. Right down to shoot. That’s strike one. One’s the count. Liner base hit throw back in quickly. First and second now with nobody out. Hitting is really easy for some guys. One thing that I can see already, his bat stays in the zone on plane for an extended period of time. And guys like that, they have a high contact rate and they have more barrels because of that bat being on plane. And even when you don’t get it great, it’s still hit hard enough to dunk something in like that in front of the center fielder. Wagner up to bat next. Lays off for a ball. [Applause] And that’s pushed foul off to the left and out of play. [Applause] really going after him here. All fast balls to get ahead in the count. [Applause] Lifted in the air right center field. Clark sizes this one up. He’s got it. Running tags at second and he moves up 90 ft. Runners at the corners now. One away. Now batting second baseman Ernie Clement. Now it’s the second baseman Ernie Clement. And that one is downstairs. One and0. In this situation, the batter’s got to know what the pitcher’s trying to do to him. And that’s trying to get him to hit the ball on the ground. Get two for one. You got to look for something up in the zone. And worst case scenario, you deliver the sacrifice fly. And that’s a little bit high. Ball two. Tough spot right here. A couple runners on two ball count. You can’t nibble, but you have to execute and finish your pitch. If you leave something out over the plate, it’s going to bring in some runs. Swang and a ball drilled in the air to center. Brings it in. Two down. Little drop and drive on that swing. Backside collapsing just a little bit trying to put the ball in the air. So up next, Miles Straw a strike out and a walk. And that’s through there for a strike. Going along. And I know you want to be patient as a hitter, but you got to be ready to jump on the first thing straight. And he got one right there. But left the bat on his shoulder. Line drive, base hit, in comes the run from third. It’s an RBI single. And they take a two-run lead. His confidence level is so high. a really nice job of coming through in a big spot. Showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way. Didn’t get jumpy. Didn’t try to pull the ball. He let it get deep. Took the barrel right to it and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit. First and second, two outs. Nathan Lucas next up for the Blue Jays. [Applause] Pitch misses and it’s a ball and a strike. The one-1 is fouled off. Traffic on the bases with one already in and we’re in the top half of the sixth. gets a piece and stays alive. [Applause] Swing and a ball drilled in the air towards right center field. Clark settles under it and makes the catch and that is that. But the RBI single pushes across a run. It’s now 42. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. Well, we go bottom six. Here’s the shortstop at the plate. Maxy [Applause] first pitch just misses. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Brendan Little, the young lefty, looks to be getting himself ready. Fischer, the right-hander, also getting loose. [Music] Two balls, no strikes to count. Right through there for a strike. [Music] Swang and a ball lifted in the air. Barker and it’s caught for the out. Now batting second baseman Zack. Here’s the second baseman, Zack Gellof. And the first offering is not close. [Applause] And another ball. The Blue Jays holding on to a two-run lead here in the bottom of the six. That one misses. Three and0. Three ball. No break. That’s ball four. Tried another fast ball but missed the spot. It’s tough after falling behind a hitter or two balls and no strikes, but now at least he gets a fresh start against a new batter. But he needs to get back into the strike zone and start pitching with conviction. Now, this team is definitely looking for a big swing of the bat right here. Try to close that gap. But, you know, at the very least, if you could find a way to manufacture that run from first, it feels like it’s really important to getting back into this ball game. Clark for the third time here. Watches that one miss. [Applause] Next offering is in for a strike. Gellof leads off first with one away. Just missed. Looks like he was trying to get to the front door with that curve ball. It’s definitely a finesse pitch, but it backed up a little bit on him and stayed inside. [Applause] That’s ripped into the outfield. Pulls it down and he makes the catch. Out number two. Now batting designated hitter Lawrence Butler. Lawrence Butler up next for the A’s. in the air out towards right center. Straw getting an angle on it. He’s got it and that’ll do it. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the map, Elvis Alvarado. Just trying to keep this one close here. And this is where a bullpin can give their players a chance to fight back into the game. Here’s George Springer to start it off. He’s already homerred here in this one. Hard hit left side. Slings it across. That takes care of Springer. Now batting the first baseman Guerrero Vlatty Jr. stepping to the dish now 0 for three with three strikeouts. Alvarado measures 6’4 in 26 years old and he was born in the Dominican Republic. The Athletics have some bullpen action. Justin Sterner appears to be getting ready and I’m sure he’s feeling some nerves. This would be his major league debut. Lopez getting loose as well. And another ball. He hasn’t wanted to challenge him. Both of those pitches off the plate away. Don’t expect anything down the hard of the plate. You may just have to be patient and take your walk here. That’s in for a strike. Base is empty, one away here in the top half of inning number seven. A swing and a miss as he chases way out of the zone. slice to right dives and he can’t hang on. So a man aboard now with one away. It’s been a pretty rough game at the plate for him so far. A bunch of strikeouts. So that felt good, I’m sure. Pretty much a model swing on that one as he ripped it into the opposite field gap. And I’m sure he’s going to be watching that one back on video because that’s the kind of swing you want to bottle. So many positives that led to that knock. Bet in the box with one away as he takes ball one man at first. One away. Come on. Headed towards the corner and a foul. up and in. And it’s two and one. [Applause] Back to back fast balls in. That last one called for a strike. Probably go away, but look for him to come back in there to try to finish you off. And now it’s filled up. Caught a break right there. Pretty good pitch on the outside corner. Fouled off again and it remains three and two. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. Eighth pitch of the bat coming up. Now one out to right. Rooker makes the catch for the out. That’s out number two. Now batting right fielder Addison Barger. And now for the Jays Addison Barger. at 96. That pitch is in for a strike. [Music] Just off the inside edge. That’s the third. Fair ball throw. Stops the lead runner at second. Two on and two out. Seeing the ball very well in this one. Just found a way to slap that ball down the third baseline. That’s really excellent back control. And it kind of goes back to all those drills you see hitters do off the tea where it’s placed in different spots. That was just nice. And now Alejandro Kirk, three for three with three singles. Right through there for a strike. First and second, two down. [Applause] That one hit to right. Looker moving under this one. Makes the grab and that’s the third out. Blue Jays leave a pair, but they still lead this one four-2. We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. Braden Fiser. These are the spots relievers really make a name for themselves late and close. There’s not much margin for error, but at the same time, there’s a reason they’re put in these situations. So, digging in for three. Brent Rooker, baby. Let’s go. First pitch misses [Applause] and another ball. [Music] Next offering is in for a strike. Good pitch to hit on a tee up in the zone. I think he was looking for something else right there. And that one off the outside edge. [Music] Sliced hard but fouled. Payoff pitch. Fights it off. He’ll see another three and two. The pitch is outside and ball four and that’ll bring the tying run to the plate. Next up for the A’s, Nick Curts. Three for three and he’s come up with three doubles. [Applause] Just missed. Way to lay off that pitch down. One, no strike. [Applause] That’s off the mark. Two and0 with the tying run at the plate near the bottom of the seventh. Basketball for a strike. Two balls, one strike. [Applause] just missed. Oh, this count. Runner not known for his speed, but I think you got to put him in motion. Try to avoid a double play here. Dude, 3-2 now with two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. On the ground to second. Might be two. Glove flip for one to Guerrero and they turn two. Really nice double play turn right there. And it all started with that sweet glove flip on the feed to second. You know, these middle infielders, they spend a lot of time honing that glove work so it just becomes like second nature. I think you also have to have a really good glove that’s broken in that’s not too large so that you can have a feel for that baseball and be able to flip it like you’re bare-handed. They’re down in front of Sha Langalers and the one swing going to grounder. Foul first base side. Well, he missed a hitable off speed pitch right there. Not sure exactly with the timing. Sometimes you get a backup breaking ball. You’re expecting it to make its move at the end. never does and you’re tied up. [Applause] Up next for the A’s left field manager out of the dugout and he’s going to make a change. Braden Fiser done for the afternoon. Two-run ball game as he heads for the dugout and we’ll be back with a new pitcher. Now pitching four, left-hander out of the bullpen, Brendan Little. And this is appearance number 45. So up next, Tyler Sodstrom 0 for three with two strikeouts and a fly out. And that drops in for a strike. free to go. Bring it home. Tying run at the plate. Highf fly ball right field. Barker. That is the inning. Now pitching for the welcome back. And a new arm on the mound to start the eighth. Jacob Lopez. He’s having a ton of success facing left-handed hitters this season. So, this seems like a smart move to turn to him with a lefty at the plate. And now for the Jays, Will Wagner. Third base, Will Wagner. [Music] Just missed. That’s inside and the count is 2 and 0. And another ball. So definitely a little wild right out of the gate. Well, it could be a little tough coming from the bullpen mound to this mound, but you’ve got to find a way to get ahead in the count quickly. He hasn’t. We’ll see how this at bat turns out. That’s a strike and the count is three and one. And that one fouled off. Foul ball and it remains a full count. battling here as he fouls it away, [Music] stays alive. Also really good at bat. What I like about this guy, his bat stays in the zone for a long time. gives him the ability to foul off tough pitches. And that one is lifted in the air. Soderstrom nabs it and there’s one away. [Applause] Up next for the Blue Jays, second base. Next to Ernie Clement. Wine drive and that’s base hit out into left center field. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. [Music] Up next for the Blue Jays centerfielder. Miles Straw next up for the Blue Jays. Right through there for a strike. Now the one ruer takes off. Pitch in for a strike. Throw to second and he’s out. Man, I see him trying to be aggressive right there late in this ball game. Try to add on to that lead. You know, I really like the thought, but it just didn’t work out that time. Nice job by the defense right there to keep things right where they are in terms of the score. Two outs. Cut out and miss. Struck him out. And a nice inning of work there as he sets him down. One, two, three. No runs, one hit, no errors, and no one left. Last half of the eighth coming up. It’s the Blue Jays four and the A’s two. Ed, welcome back to the ballpark. Here’s the third base, Miguel Duh. Sing, you talk about a guy that has all the skills. The range is really good, but the arm just stands out and he makes all the plays. And the first pitch misses for ball one. And because of that big power arm, he’s able to play a little bit deeper, make throws from the outfield grass all the way across the diamond and still get a pretty good runner. That’s impressive. Nope. [Applause] [Music] Next offering is fouled back. Swinging in a miss. Struck him out and that’s the first out. Boogie just ran out of patience there. He took a couple of pitches to even that count up at two balls and two strikes, but that time chased outside the zone. Maxy up next for the A’s. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. tried to check his swing there. Now it appealed to first. He went around says Rusty Valentine. Let’s go to baby. Let’s go. They had a foul ball. Strike three. And that’s two in a row. Man, that looked like a pretty good swing and I was waiting for it to get hammered somewhere. I mean, breaking ball, but he just somehow missed it. Timing looked solid and his balance was there. He wasn’t out on the front foot. Great pitch to hit, but just came up with nothing but air. So, tell you what, that’s not a good feeling at all. Zack Gellof getting ready to hit. That one missed. Two down, nobody on here. The bottom half of the eighth inning. Swings through that one. This guy’s got such a good sinker. As a hitter, you’ve got to look up in the zone. If you look down, you’re going to be chasing stuff in the dirt. That’s down and in. swing and a chopper out to short. Bette whips it to first. The A’s go quietly and the A’s are gone in order. They trail it here. Four to2. Justin Sterner gets handed the rock out of the pen. He pitched yesterday and we’ll see him once again. Now the left fielder for left fielder Nathan Lucas. [Applause] Highfly ball out into left center field. Clark turns to the right on the move, puts it away for the out. Really nice job to get your first out of the ball game. Now batting designated hitter George Springer. And the batter is George Springer. It was a homer for him back in the fifth. Just a solo shot, but an important swing in this game. Yeah, and it was a beautiful swing as well. Everything just came together timing wise and they blasted it out of here. And a strike on the outside edge. Action in the pen down there. A right-hander is up and throwing. [Applause] Next pitch is outside. Base is empty. One away. here in the top of the ninth. [Applause] Now fly ball to right center. Rooker on his way over. They got it for out number two. [Applause] Up next for the Blue Jays. First base. Two down. Base is empty. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. next up for the Blue Jays. [Applause] up the middle and that chance handled. Got him on the offbalance throw and the inning is over. Three up, three down for him there and 912 scheduled to lead off the bottom of the ninth. It’s the Blue Jays four and the A’s two. We’re back and on the mound is the closer Jeff Hoffman. Save opportunity for him right here and he’s their guy. Time to lock this one down and get out of here with the W. So digging in Denzel Clark. You got the number nine hole hitter right here looking to do whatever he can to get on base, turn this lineup over so the best hitters in this lineup have a chance to tie up the ball game or maybe even walk it off. on the ground to first and that one handled takes it himself and the leadoff man retired here in the ninth. That play won’t be trending on social media later on, but it’s still important to execute it to perfection. This game is a lot harder than it looks, partner. He’s two outs away. Digging in, Lawrence Butler 0 for three in this one. [Applause] First pitch not close. [Applause] And another ball. The A’s down by a pair. We’re in the last half of the ninth inning. That misses the zone and it’s 3 and 0. Well, I would expect in this three- 0 count, you’re taking all the way. See if they’ll walk you. Next offering in there for a strike. Three balls in a strike. Nice grab. Gathers and throws. Got him. Nice play. Now batting right fielder Brent Rooker. So they’re down to their final out. And now the right fielder Brent Rooker. [Applause] And that is downstairs. Ball one and [Applause] just missed. [Applause] and a swing and a miss. Wow. No fair right there. I mean, that slider didn’t move till the very last moment. Incredibly difficult to pick that up. Just kind of have to tip your cap on that pitch. [Applause] The Athletics down to their final strike. [Applause] swing and a miss. Struck him out and that is the ball game. Nice work out of the bullpin for that first MLB Wanboo. They turn to him when they didn’t have the lead. He kept things steady and he’s rewarded with the W. And your final 42 for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shami. We’ll see you soon.
