CLEVELAND, Ohio – Browns running back Quinshon Judkins is accused of repeatedly punching a woman during an argument over text messages last week in South Florida, according to a police report released Monday.
The woman waited five days before contacting authorities Saturday, telling a Fort Lauderdale officer that “she felt bad due to the recent success and career of (Judkins).” She decided to speak with an officer after “coming to the realization that something needed to be done,” according to the report.
Judkins, 21, faces misdemeanor charges of battery and domestic violence in Fort Lauderdale involving the attack. His attorney, David Weinstein, told a judge Sunday that police and prosecutors have overstated the facts of the case. He also said that the woman stayed with Judkins for five days before speaking with officers.
Judkins was released on a $2,500 bond Sunday.
The police report shows that Judkins and the woman flew into Fort Lauderdale International Airport late on Monday, July 7. After leaving the plane, the woman told officers, she went to the restroom.
As she and Judkins reached baggage claim, he said: “Oh wow, I can’t believe you,” according to the report. He also told her, “I’m so done with you,” the woman told officers. The report said Judkins was reading texts from his family members about the woman.
They entered a Lamborghini SUV rental together, and the woman tried to tell him that the messages weren’t true, according to the police report.
As she spoke, the report said, “(Judkins) then punched her in the mouth/chin with a closed fist.” Five days later, the report noted, the woman had visible bruising on her chin.
The report said that as Judkins drove, he stopped the car, and the woman got out and re-entered in the SUV’s backseat. As they continued to argue, Judkins turned and hit her in the left arm and leg, according to the police report. The woman said she began to kick her feet in his direction to defend herself.
The report said Judkins and the woman lived together last year, between May and December. She told officers that she rekindled their relationship last month.
Officers attempted to question Judkins, but he invoked his rights and declined to speak with them. The woman took photographs of her injuries, but Weinstein said in court that there was no proof of when those pictures were taken. The woman’s age was not listed in the report.
Cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer attempted to reach Weinstein on Monday. A spokesman for the Browns could not be reached. The team has said the team is gathering information on the case.
Judkins’ arrest marks the second time in as many years that a top Browns’ rookie has been charged involving a domestic dispute. Last year, rookie defensive tackle Michael Hall Jr. pleaded no contest to disorderly conduct stemming from an incident with his fianceé.
The Browns selected Judkins in the second round of this year’s draft with the expectation he would take over as the team’s primary back this season. They also selected running back Dylan Sampson in the fourth round.
Judkins rushed for 1,060 yards and 14 touchdowns last season for Ohio State while splitting backfield time with TreVeyon Henderson. He transferred to the Buckeyes after two seasons at Ole Miss where he rushed for 2,725 yards and 31 touchdowns in 26 games.
Judkins is in line to replace Nick Chubb, who recently signed a one-year, $2.5 million deal with the Texans.
