Here’s Why The Packers 2nd Round Pick Hasn’t Signed His Rookie Contract Yet
Every single one of the Green Bay Packers 2025 NFL draft picks have signed their contract except second round pick Anthony Beltton, the left tackle out of NC State. If you’re wondering why he hasn’t been signed yet, keep watching today’s video. I’m going to let you know just why that hasn’t happened and what you need to look out for over the next coming week or so. Before we get into the content, got to update you guys on our July sub battle with the Chicago Bears. Today we’re basically halfway through the month. Only down four subscribers. Not bad at all, but we need that number to go up. We need to pass Chicago. I got to be number one for the rest of the month. And I need you guys to help me do it. Hit that subscribe button. It’s free. It locks us in for daily content and helps us ruin a Bears fans day. [Music] Are there contract concerns in Green Bay? Because as you know, Anthony Belton, the Packers second round pick, still remains unsigned three months after the 2025 NFL draft. Now, it’s interesting to talk about it this week because literally this week on Friday, the rookies will be reporting to training camp. Okay. Now, training camp doesn’t officially start until the next week when all the veterans report as well and practices start, but rookies are supposed to be there on Friday, just four days from now, and still one of the rookies is unsigned. The good thing for Green Bay, though, is this isn’t anything uncommon across the entirety of the National Football League. Adam Sher tweeted this out on June 27th, so just about two weeks ago, and it still remains true. Heading into the weekend and less than a month away from training camp, only two of the NFL’s 32 second round draft picks have signed. That’s right, two of 32 second rounders, only two of them have signed their contracts. Deals are stalled over whether or not contracts will be fully guaranteed. The only two 2025 second round picks now signed are Cleveland’s Carson Swissinger and Houston’s Jaden Higgins. Both of them got four years fully guaranteed. And that’s what the entire argument is about. That’s what this whole sticking point has been through the entirety of this contract negotiation negotiation process. The guaranteed money, that’s been the sticking point, okay? And how much a second round pick should get guaranteed? How many years should a second round’s contract be fully guaranteed? We all know that if you’re a first round draft pick, usually all four years of your contract are guaranteed. However, if you’re a second rounder, it kind of tends to fluctuate. Some teams do two and two. If you look at the two Green Bay Packers second round picks from last year, Edone Cooper and then Javon Bullard as well, both of them got three years of guaranteed money. You look at Cooper 795, 1.19, 1.51, zero guaranteed in 2027, a total of 3.46. That helps that he was a higher draft pick in the second round. Then Javon Bullard, who gets some guaranteed, not as much. You look in 2026, that takes a dip down only to $55,000 guaranteed. A total of $1.895 million guaranteed in his first rookie contract. I really really believe that the two plus two model is over for second rounders. Okay. And it kind of surprises me that still Anthony Belton hasn’t been signed yet when they just signed their last two guys to the 31 model, but the 22 plus two model is over. It’s done. No longer a second round pick going to be signed for two years guaranteed and then two years of nothing guaranteed. That’s why all these guys are kind of holding out together outside of the two guys in Schwessinger and Higgins who’ve gotten those fully guaranteed deals. Now, because Anthony Belton is still holding out, and because last year’s both second round picks in Javon Bullard and Edan Cooper got three years guaranteed, one year not, it makes me feel like Anthony Beltton wants four years in a fully guaranteed contract, just like Matthew Golden in the first round. Now, before you go throwing your stones and upset about what Anthony Belton is doing and frustrated about the moves that he’s making and the fact that he’s a rookie and he’s kind of holding out, even though it’s not a hold out yet, I truly believe that we all would do the same thing. Okay, I know that you might be sitting there thinking, “No, I wouldn’t. I’d work for it. I’d earn it.” But like if you have the opportunity and everybody else across the National Football League is holding out with you to try to lock down and get that guaranteed money that pretty much tells you, you know, in two years if you’re not seeing the field, if you get hurt or something like that happens, ah, they can just cut bait, release you, you’re out of a job, and there’s not much security, not much of a blanket for you outside of that. Now, do I have any concerns? You might be asking, not really. Until July 18th is here, I’m not necessarily concerned about these contracts not being signed, about Belton’s contract not being signed. If you remember, to the rival Chicago Bears last year, Roma Dunay, Caleb Williams, they didn’t sign their rookie deals until I think the day before they reported to training camp. So, I would expect something to happen over the next couple of days, over the next 24, 48, 72 hours. Yes, I can do math and additions of 24, but I think that’s something to look out for. Now, if July 18th does come around, if we get to Friday and he’s still not signed and he’s holding out, ah, maybe it’s time to be concerned a little bit. Make sure you guys are subscribed to the channel, though, okay? Because we got full Packers training camp coverage and more content through the entirety of their training camp. Make sure you subscribe and then make sure you turn on those notifications so that way you are right here anytime we ever drop a video. Let’s be real when talking about Anthony Beltton, okay, and talking about him not signing this contract yet. I still got to talk about the fact that this pick kind of confused me looking back into the 2025 NFL draft, especially because of the recent extension rumors that we’ve gotten, not just for one of your tackles on that offensive line, but for Rasheed Walker as well. We all knew going into this offseason that Zack Tom was most likely going to get paid. And if it didn’t happen during this offseason, it’s going to happen sometime during the season or sometime during next off seasonason. They will not let Zack Tom walk. But Rasheed Walker, I think after the draft pick of Anthony Belton, we all kind of assumed, okay, this is probably his final year and then Anthony Belton’s gonna, you know, get a shoot in this next off seasonason in 2026. But he’s had some extension rumors as well from some pretty credible sources that have gotten a lot of things right. And if you look at the current state of this offensive line, you still have Walker, you have Tom, two really, really good tackles. You added in Aaron Banks, Elin Jenkins will hopefully be that center if he’s done holding out by the time the season rolls around. Shawn Ryan or Jordan Morgan, one of those two guys I think is going to be the right guard. But you look at this group and when it’s an offensive line and you got two guys on the outside that are going through their own like contract extension discussions and then you have your second round pick who’s also a tackle and hasn’t signed his contract extension. And then you got your center who’s gonna move from left guard to center at Elsa Jenkins who really didn’t show up to any OTAAS or mini camp. Like why is there so much drama going on on the offensive line? It’s a little bit confusing. It’s a little bit frustrating. And the pick of Belton I believe to me has been so confusing from the beginning of it from literally the night they picked him because I still felt going into the draft that quarterback was a really big need and there were some good cornerbacks still available at pick number 54. Green Bay could have selected Trey Amos, who went to Washington just five picks later, maybe six picks later. They could have selected Darien Porter at Iowa State, who I love. Savon Revel Jr., a guy who if he didn’t tear his ACL, would have been a first round draft pick. Instead, he falls to the third round, goes to the Dallas Cowboys. And it really is a big deal because you didn’t keep Jier Alexander. And now you look at this Packers room. You got Keshan Nixon. You got Nate Hobbs. I’m confident in Javon Bullard in the nickel. But like, is this a group that we have the utmost confidence in when every single week they’re going to have to go against the top wide receivers in the game? They’re going to have to play Detroit twice a year against Almond Ros St. Brown, against Jameson Williams. They’re going to have to play against Joris Adam, Jordan Addison, against Justin Jefferson two times a year as well. Like I’m sorry if this doesn’t sound 100% positive. Like I don’t know how that makes me feel that group against those type players. I don’t love it if I’m being real with you. And so yeah, this is an Anthony Belton contract video, but I just got to talk a little bit about how the pick confused me three months ago because it still kind of confuses me today. Now, if Green Bay doesn’t extend walk and they move on after this season and then Anthony Belton signs a contract next couple days and gets ushered into that starting left tackle role, every single one of us, myself included, in July of 2026 will be saying, “Man, what a great pick.” But if they extend Rasheed Walker, then this thing stays a headscratcher. Get your red pins out for me and grade the pick of Anthony Belton three months later. How do you feel about it? Give me an A, B, C, D, or F. Let me know your grade in the comments section down below. Now, before we get out of here, I’m just going to talk to you about something we saw today on social media. Something we saw on ESPN. I might do a full video on this later in the week, but I had to discuss it because it came out this morning. NFL exe executive scouts and coaches voted on the top 10 quarterbacks in the National Football League. Jordan Love did not make that top 10 list. He made an honorable mention second behind CJ Strad. So I believe that right now they pretty much have him around 12th. I don’t want to say they’re wrong because he battled with injuries and took a little bit of a step back, but him being fully healthy this next season, I’ve got all the confidence in the world for him to crack back into that top 10. I think he’s going to surprise a lot of people. We’ve talked about Adnauseium on this channel. My support, my love, my belief in Jordan Love. I think he’s going to show that. And I think next year when that list comes back out, he’s going to be a top 10 quarterback. We’re going to get on out of here, but make sure you guys got me on social media. You can find me on Twitter. You can find me on Instagram, Joey Pearson8. Also, make sure you’re subscribed to the channel because hey, it’s free to do so. [Music]
