Summer League analysis on the Charlotte Hornets making things work on both ends vs the Utah Jazz!

What is good YouTube? Quinn Wade coming to you with more summer league analysis. Another good close game that went down to the wire. The Hornets was winning. Then Utah made their run and was able to take the lead and then obviously Charlotte was able to pull it out with the win. good finish around the rim and a good shot here and there was able to be the way that the Hornets would play to be able to win 111 to 105. Hornets got off to a really good start. They scored 31 points in that first quarter. Um, but the Jazz only had 25 and then they followed that up with a 29 to 23 second quarter. But they finally got beat in that third quarter with the most points in the from both teams which was 36 which the Jazz put on the Hornets in the third but they scored 27 and then Charlotte was able to win the last quarter 24 to 21 and that was how they was able to win. It wasn’t easy and they worked for it and they got the win that they felt like they could get. they was leading going into the fourth and they was able to close it out by the end of the fourth. Um Ryan for the Charlotte Hornets, he made a nice little dunk. Um very strong, very powerful move and he did that throughout the entire game. But he did play 30 minutes and he only went four of nine. You would have thought that he shot better um if you watch the highlights, but it it didn’t happen that way. He missed some easy ones, too. and one of them was a three and that was his only attempt from the three-point line but he missed it. But he also went two or two from the free throw line which was really good to see. He grabbed five boards which was actually not the most um for this team although he played a lot of minutes and he was always in the paint for the most part. He had an offensive rebound and also four assists and a steal with three blocks with three personal fouls. He was a plus nine and plus minus. He ended up having 10 points and saloon 27 minutes, three six of 11 from the field, two of six from three, six of nine from the free throw line, seven boards, one of them was offensive, one assist, two turnovers, five personal fouls, minus four and plus minus. He ended up having 20. He’s been one of their better and more dependable and reliable scorers slashrebounders, and he did that again tonight. you would like him to shoot a little bit better from the free throw line, but other than that, he had a really good game and he was efficient by the end of it, even though he was used a lot to be able to create plays for himself and he was able to do it efficiently, so you can’t really hate on him. Khan Canipple, his first game in summer league. Uh he played 30 minutes but couldn’t make a shot from the perimeter. Um he finished one of eight from the field, 05 from three and he had good looks, too. And then he went three of six from the free throw line. That was actually what you thought would be able to help him get started making more shots was getting to the free throw line, but he missed half of those. He also had one rebound, four assists, one steal. His defense was all right, but it wasn’t terrible or bad, which is good. It showed they can still improve in that area, which we knew he would have to because it’s not easy, you know, playing in at this level or higher. Um, these players were some of the best players in the world for a reason and they can make you look silly and foolish, you know, each and every possession if they wanted to. Three turnovers, three person five, plus six and plus min with five. Um, he was one of the only two starters in the lineup that didn’t get double figures. The other one was Seion James, but he did shoot well from the field. He was four or seven from the field. He only played 19 minutes, though. He was 03 from the three-point line. Three boards, one of them being offensive with three assists, two turnovers, three personal fouls, minus three and plus minus eight points. KJ Simpson 29 minutes, eight of 15 from the field, four nine from three, 101 from the free throw line, five assists, three rebounds, one of them offensive, also three steals, four turnovers in the personal foul. He was a minus two and plus minus. Gave you a lot tonight. I like his shooting from the perimeter. I like his ball handling when it comes to creating his own shot and getting the space and separation to be able to do it and his playmaking was straight. But only problem is he turned the ball over a little bit too much. But he did had the ball in his hands a lot and he was the guy that took the second most shots on the team tonight and that don’t even include free throw attempts, but even then he wouldn’t be the first. Um, but PJ Hall 10 minutes 202 from the field, 101 from three, two from the free throw line. He did finish with three boards, two of them being offensive with an assist, a block, a turnover. He also had six personal fouls, which actually was the most on the team tonight. He finished as a minus five and plus minus with seven points. It be like that um sometimes, but he’s still trying to figure out how to defend. He’s still trying to figure out how he can stay in front of people. And that’s going to be something that’s going to be tough to do as most NBA players now can score easily on anybody. Um he’s just going to be a guy that’s going to have to find a way to give up some some space and just hope they miss those jump shots if he can keep them in front of him. Leo McNeely was balling. Um 28 minutes played, he was seven to 16 from the field, three or six from three. He was splashing those things so easily. That release was on perfecto mode and it was just great to see. But he also was knocking down every free throw that when he got there, five of five there, 22 points. He also grabbed 12 boards, which actually was the most that you can actually grab. And he did that so easily. And it was just good to see him do that. Um, tonight he also had six assists, um, three turnovers in the personal he was a plus nine and plus minus. And then Jaylen Sims, 17 minutes, five assist from the field, three or four from the free throw line. Um he did have six boards, three of them being offensive, two assists, three steals, two personal foul. He was a plus 16 and plus minus and got in double figures also off the bench with 13 points. I mean, if you’re going to go five or six from the field, that’s really beautiful and really difficult to do as we’ve been seeing in summer league. Um this year so far, it’s hard to score even in the paint. But not only that, he went three or four missing only one free throw. So that was really good to see him cash in there, too. And then Damian finished with 10 minutes. He was two or three from the field, one and two from the free throw line. He had one personal foul. He was a plus four and plus minus. He finished with five. And the bench did a good job of scoring the basketball and rebounding. That’s one thing that we seen tonight from them. And it was just good to see them impact the game in a positive way. And the rest of the guys did not play coach decision. They shot 39 to 77, 50% from the field, 10 to 31, 32% from three, 23 of 31, 74% from the free throw line, 14 offensive rebounds, 40 total, 26 assists, eight steals, four blocks, 15 turnovers, and 25 personal fouls. And then obviously the Utah Jazz. Cody Williams was having his best game. still wasn’t the greatest game ever, but he’s showing you that he’s really trying to attack more and he’s finding other ways to score. Um whether it’s with the jump shot, whether it’s with the pull up, whether it’s using that speed and quickness to target the basket and get right to it, he’s figuring things out more than he did last year. So, he played 27 minutes. He was eight of 19 from the field, three of 11 from three, two, two from the free throw line. He had three boards with one being offensive with assist and a steal, a turnover, two personal fouls, a plus one and plus minus. He finished with 21 points and it was really needed because they was really struggling sometimes to score and he had his problem scoring. Although they left him open a couple times, he still wasn’t even able to make them, especially from the three-point line. Kyle Leapowski was amazing. He was playing at his own pace, taking his time even in the post, hitting threes when he was open. He just had a good solid game. 12 of 17 from the field, three of seven from three, five of eight from the free throw line. He led the game with 32 points tonight. And that was just beautiful to see cuz he just played his game and he didn’t really differentiate. He didn’t change much up. He just was able to get the shots that he wanted. He was able to drop them in. Um, six boards, five assists, one block, two turnovers. The problem was the eight personal foul. He’s still learning how to be a run protector. He’s still learning how to be a uh help defender and a guy that can cover space. He’s not the fastest guy, although he is a decent athlete for his size, but when it comes to trying to stop the best athletes in the world from coming at you or coming at you and you’re a little late, you’re going to see him get in some foul trouble as he tries to figure that out. Walter Clayton Jr., I like what he did offensively, too. In 27 minutes, he was eight of 17 from the field, four of 10 from three, one to two from the free throw line. Got that floater game going to mid-range going. He was able to get some good looks at the three-point nerve when it comes to shots and he was able to knock a couple of those down. I like how he played. He wasn’t rushing. He really wasn’t forcing. He was taking the time to see if things opened up before he could score and that was just beautiful to see from him. One of two from the free throw line, six rebounds, three assists, one block, two turnovers, six personal fouls, a plus two and plus minus. He also finished with 21 points just like Cody Williams. Isaiah Kolier, 28 minutes, six of 10 from the field, two of three from the three-point line, two of two from the free throw line, 16 points, nine assists, six rebounds, two of them was offensive. Um, two steals, six turnovers, three personal fouls, and a minus two and plus minus. And Elijah Harkas was the last guy. He finished one of six from the field. Had some good looks. He just blew him. Unfortunately, it can happen. but he also went 04 from three, but he made some of his points going three or four from the free throw line. He did have two boards um and one offensive rebound, two assists with four steals. Also had a turnover with six personal fouls, which was tied for the second most on the team. He was a plus seven and plus minus, and he had five points. He did a lot of things wrong the night. The best thing for his night really was just getting those steals and making it hard for them to score on him. But then again, he did help them out by fouling also. So, it comes with the territory of trying to be a great defender. Riskreward can sometimes help you and sometimes it can hurt you. We all know that’s part of getting blocks. That’s all always part of getting steals. Either you overdoing it, you’re trying to get out of your position to do it or you opening up your teammates to be able to tack it because you missed the assignment or you just gambled too much and now you got burnt by it. But I like what Kolier did tonight. Let me get back to him. the ability to hit that three is starting to show. He needs to be more of a threat offensively besides trying to pass over and over again. He has to be able to get to that rim and finish better. He’s showing potential in that. He is also showing potential of getting to the free throw line a little bit more. You got to watch the turnovers. I know he wants to be a pass first guy, but with that body and with that touch, you can do a lot more than just pass. And he’s showing that so far in summer league and he did a little bit at the end of the season, too. Adama go 16 minutes three or four from the field two or two from the free throw line eight rebounds three of them offensive three assists one block one personal foul minus 11 and plus minus he finished with eight points Max ended up having 16 minutes played one of six from the field or two from three and two steals a turnover three personal fouls minus five and plus minus two points um didn’t shoot the ball particularly that well from the field or from three But he did end up still making the shot and he did convert, you know, those steals into a basket. So, I guess you look at it like he played 16 minutes and just didn’t have a good game because he didn’t really impact the game outside of trying to be a defender or a scorer and the scoring didn’t really pay off for him, but the steals did. U Jaden Springer 17 minutes, 02 from the field, 01 from three, three boards, one of them being offensive with assist, a turnover, and two personal foul. He was a minus 18 in plus minus and that was a bad game from him outside of rebounding the basketball. He didn’t really do much other than that finding one of his teammates for a bucket. And then Dane Goodwin nine minutes old for for him. He didn’t attempt any shots in the minutes that he played. He didn’t even get nothing to do um out there for himself and he just finished as a minus nine as goose eggs for the entire game which is something you never really want to see. you want to see them trying to do something um to contribute to try to get y’all back in the game or help y’all win. And Dane just wasn’t able to do that at all. It’s rare to see somebody not have packed any statistical category by the end of the game even if they have limited minutes, but it happened for him tonight. The rest of the guys did not play coaches decision although they was healthy. 39 to 81, 48% from the field as a team, 12 to 38, 31% from three, 15 to 20, 75% from the free throw line, 34 rebounds, 24 assists, nine steals, three blocks, 14 turnovers, and 31 personal fouls. They got it done. The Hornets did. Um, wasn’t the the greatest game, wasn’t the easiest game, but the the Jazz showed you that we’re going to compete. We’re going to try to make that last run or that last chance to be able to steal this game because you let us hang around and you start y’all start missing shots. Y’all start making mistakes, giving us some hope, giving us some confidence that we can possibly be able to win it. But then the Hornets slowed it down a little bit, got back to it, made them win the game in the first place, and that was just enough to be able to get them over that hump and get them over that hill to come out victorious. And that’s all that matter. If you’re winning games and you’re learning as as you can after the game and you’re trying to improve, well, welcome to summer league. Welcome to the NBA. Welcome to high school. Welcome to college. It’s part of the game. You’re not going to play it perfect. You’re not going to be perfect. You’re not going to execute things perfectly. But it’s all about trying to get better from it. And it’s all about trying to be the better teammate, saying, “If I don’t got it, I need you to do it. If you can do it, we need us to do it. If we can stop them, we can definitely put ourselves in a position to win this game. And the Hornets looked themselves in the mirror and they was able to figure it out on the fly and they was able to get it done. And the Jazz, I like what they did. They missing a lot of good players that they started off summer league with and they’re missing now. And they would have been a lot better having more flow and more guys that can make plays and make shots. They didn’t have that tonight, but made it comp made it very competitive and made it very entertaining and I like that. And that’s all I can give them credit on because they ended up losing the game other than that. Other than that, comment, like, subscribe, share, hit the notification bell for more analysis.
