There’s nothing wrong with our WNBA team bringing back Portland Fire as the name

  1. I think you’d really have to be terminally online to care about the team name.

  2. I would’ve liked Portland Ember. Still the same Fire vibe but it’s a cooler word and it doesn’t have to share with the Chicago MLS franchise.

  3. People will get over it. And if they don’t want to be a fan because of the name? Cool. Let them.

  4. Haters gonna hate, they got nothing better in their life. I am already looking forward to attending some Fire games next year. Also purchased some vintage 2000-2002 Portland Fire swag before it’s gone.

  5. It’s alright, I just feel there are better options such as the Rip City Roses and Portland Ember.

  6. It’s the McMenamins food of team names; totally bland and uninspired, yet not awful either.

  7. I’m not offended, I just don’t think it’s a name that embodies Portland.

  8. I would have chosen a different name, but not because I have a problem with the name. I would have picked something else, so I could sell throwback Fire jerseys immediately

  9. I think I just wanted something new to represent a fresh start for Portland WNBA also to play along with the T theme (Trail Blazers, Thorns, Timbers). I was a little disappointed at first but the logo is convincing me otherwise now.

  10. I thought it was mid but now that the whole branding has been released I like it

  11. But why is the “P” logo NOT the P in the wordmark? Why? Drives me nutso.

  12. It’s lazy. It’s just replaying the derivative naming conventions of too many WNBA teams. Let them have an interesting name that doesn’t signify that they are just an appendage to a NBA team.

Besides it being lazy, it’s not like it was a historically relevant team or name. The original team only lasted 3 years, making the playoffs exactly zero times. How uninspired do you need to be to revive a team name of something that didn’t even last as long as the Confederacy. Seriously, those shitbags only lasted 4 years.

  13. In a week literally no one will care about this anymore lol people are just bored in the off-season
