If this ranking of Brian Shottenheimer is correct, head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, America’s team is doomed. Doomed, I tell you. I’m Mike Fischer, your trusty and trust reporter. Dallas Cowboys uh when they went through the goodbye Mike McCarthy process, that was a headline grabber. When they hired Ryan Shottenheimer, that was a headline grabber. And then the sandwich in between was all the things that the Joneses didn’t do in their exploration of a new head coach. As we discussed last night, uh, whatever the Cowboys were going to do from Bill Bich all the way down to whatever, it was going to be a headline grabber. So, as we get ready to close down the ranking and listical season with an acknowledgement that um many people nationally certainly found the hiring of Shottenheimer to be uninspiring, um I would add this and you can speak for yourself on this. I believe this is true. You might have found the Shottenheimer hiring to be uh less than inspiring at the start and then day by day by day as you and we got to know him came around on what he might be. Um his personality and his staff hires, uh the response from the locker room, all that good stuff uh played well with Cowboys Nation. Uh CBS Sports has done its rankings of the coaches in the NFL. This might not play well with you. This might not work for you. Uh everything can you hear me? Can you see me? Everything cool? Let me know and I’ll press some magic buttons. I know, but as always, Joey, uh we will bring something of sports intellect to the table. Shottenheimr ranks number 31. Wonk wonk Allen Wright. Shanheimimer played well with the media and fans once we got to know him. How naive can we be? Um, somebody’s not naive in terms of positivity because we’re ranking him 31. Uh, President Jeremiah Hamilton has a circle and star. How do I get the circle and star? Ask the fellas. I’ll show you how. Uh, rest in peace Fox Sports One lineup. uh um when when people are out of work, when people get dumped, whe whether it’s this industry or any any industry, it’s not for me a cause for celebration. Um but I must say, and of course, first they they dumped Skip Bis. Nobody was watching him. He pretends that he quit. Uh, and of course their dumping of Skip Bis uh came with uh perfect timing as he was being sued uh by a coworker who she says offered her $1.5 million to have sex with him. At the same time, Joy Taylor allegedly she’s involved in a lawsuit um regarding she did something with this guy, she did something over there with that guy, she did something over here uh verbally with this one. So Skip’s out now. Joy Taylor’s out. And then the one other guy uh who who is trying as best he can, but he doesn’t really understand how this works is Shady McCoy, who tried to take a shortcut. Now, boy, I understand the temptation. He he’s watching what some of these other guys are doing, starting with what Skip used to do and what Stephen A. Smith does. And Shady McCoy, it goes on that FS1 every day and just just screams almost blasphemous insults uh at anybody who will listen and watch, including the Cowboys. And so um they have dumped all those programs. Good morning. Come on in. Uh it turns out it’s grandson day again here. You guys know uh you guys know Carson. Carson said good morning. Morning. Good morning. That’s a scraggle. So, ranked number 31 and CBS Bills Shottenheimer is being in the group called unproven or underwhelming. Can’t argue with unproven as a head coach. Even at age 51, he’d been doing a lot of things for a lot of years, but he hasn’t been doing that. Everybody’s saying good morning to you. That’s nice, isn’t it? Must be nice to be so liked. Nobody says nobody gives me that many good mornings. Yeah, cuz I’m a fan favorite. Cuz you’re what? I’m a fan favorite. You apparently are a fan favorite. Uh they talk about Shanheimer’s name, I guess. I I don’t think, and I say this with all due respect to the late great Marty, I don’t know that that’s has anything to do with it. Now, that was a couple of football generations ago. Um, this is a guy in Shotti who’d been doing this. He’d been a coordinator starting in 2006. You got 20 years. You got 30 years in football, 20 years as a coordinator and on up. He’s ranked 31. The only guy ranked below him is Brian Callahan of the Tennessee Titans. What do you know about Coach Shottenheim or anything? Got any hot takes on him yet or you need to do your research? I I I just don’t think he is. You what? I just don’t think he Okay, we’ll do your research and we’ll find out. Congratulations to your championship Thunder, by the way. Yeah, good good for you. You done it. You did it again. Yeah. Hey, you guys made it to the finals last year. I’m I can’t even hear you with your scraggly voice. made it to the you guys beat us in the Western Conference. Yeah. And uh the Mavericks did it last year, went to the finals. Yeah. And your club did it this year and won it all. And then Owensky. We’ll see about next year. Maybe the Mavericks will be back. Maybe it be Mavericks versus Thunder in the West. Cooper Flag. Cooper Flag. Yeah. Uh Brian Callahan ranks 32. Our old friend Kell Moore ranks 29. And what’s going to be measured obviously I I who’s a better coach? That’s that’s that’s not going to be determined over 2025 between Kell Moore and Brian Shawimer because they’re going to stink. The Saints are going to stink. Uh they they’ve got Alvin Kamara and they’ve got uh Chris at wide receiver and they don’t have much else and they have a rookie head coach. Uh, you would think there’s going to be some growing pains there. And maybe there’ll be some Shenheimer growing pains, too. Who’s at the top? This isn’t hard. Um, the number one guy isn’t hard for me. It’s Andy Reid. Agreed. Shawn McVey is ranked number two. Okay. Harbaugh in Baltimore ranked number three. Hm. Nick Serriani. And we can we can be a an Eagles hater all we want here, but you have to give him this. Two Super Bowls in the last three years and the third best winning percentage of any coach in the Super Bowl era. True. And then um former Cowboy semi friend of the show Dan Campbell is ranked fifth in Detroit. What’s he done? So, I mean, Dan Campbell gets to be in the same breath with Andy Reid, gets to be in the same paragraph with Andy Reid. No, not really. Now, let’s go down to the bottom and let’s look at the other rookie coaches and um a lot of times you feel like that that the Cowboys are put in a certain position on these lists for the sake of gaining attention. If that was the case with CBS, see, I think this one’s sincere, and here’s why. You’d put Shotimer 30 second. You’d put him last. If you really wanted to get attention, you’d put him last. Why? Why put him second to last? And you could justify putting him last. But here’s the argument against it. Kell Moore is ranked 29th. He’s never done it. Aaron Glenn’s ranked 28th in with the Jets. Never done it. See, Kenneth Easley, I’m with you. Shotti’s a rookie, but he’s a 51y old rookie with pedigree. Liam Cohen is ranked 26. Brian C, by the way, uh with a $5 pitch in fish, speaking of coaches, I’ll point this out now. Jimmy Johnson turns 82 tomorrow. Hey, hey, Jimmy Johnson, semi friend of the show. 82. 82. Uh Liam Cohen moves from Tampa to Jacksonville, has done nothing but gets to be ranked higher. And then Ben Johnson goes to Chicago. He’s ranked 24. And I get it. Ben Johnson is the hot young thing. So I I understand the attraction to him. The beauty of what’s about to happen after we get through listical season and then the training camp, the the proof will be in the pudding. If Nick Serriani is really that much better with his roster, then they should the Eagles should stomp the Cowboys in week one. If Shottenheimimer is more than just unproven and more than just uh uninspiring and and all the all the negative stuff, if if he’s if he’s bad, it’ll show. There’s no evidence of any of that. So, uh, g give me Andy Reid, then give me whatever bundle you want and then if you were really going to do this and be honest about it, you’d take all these rookie coaches and you’d say it’s a they’re in a tie for 24th place or however many rookie coaches there are. I think many of you are expressing what I’ll express on Shottenheimimer and we’ll close with this. Get you to cowboyscountry.com and then see at fish at 6 tonight. If I’m going to get a rookie head coach, with all due respect to all the rookie head coaches who are 35, Shottenheimimer’s been doing this as a coach almost as long as some of those guys have been alive. So, I love the sentiment and I agree with the sentiment. If I want a rookie coach and I got to choose between a 35 year old and a 51 year old, a guy who just hasn’t been around long enough to pay many dues and hasn’t filled up his learning cup quite yet at age 35. We we didn’t like the hiring process. It It was not a wide enough net. It was not a deep enough look. Uh, I will not let go of this jokey line uh um forever. The Cowboys coaching search basically was Jerry walking down the hallway and looking into the coffee room, coffee break room and say I I’ll take Shotti. But when it comes to a rookie head coach, I’m not let’s not compare Shotttonheimer at this point. Stop it, goof. When it when it let’s not compare Shottenheimer to Andy Reid. That that’s not even that’s not even fair. Um, but compare Shottenheimer to the other the other kids in the coaching circle. I don’t blame you if your vote is I think I’ll take Shotty Fish out. Fish. Oh.
