Aiva Arquette, Cam Cannarella, Brandon Compton, Max Williams Announced as 2025 Marlins Draft Picks
With the seventh pick of the 2025 MLB draft. The Miami Marlins select Iva Arquette, a shortstop from Oregon State University. The Toronto Blue Jays have the next. All right, the pride of Kailua by the native coming out and making his mark today. By the way, his great grandfather played for the San francisco Seals. So this does run in the family, primarily second baseman in Washington, comes over to Oregon State, moves to shortstop and really didn’t miss a beat. He’s the best college position player in this draft. Actually got to go to the super regional. Harold hooked me up with tickets. He moves really well. 6 ft five guys at shortstop. I think it’s going to be a little power overhead. He’s got the arm for short. We’ll see if he stays there. Like I said, I was pleasantly surprised by his actions at shortstop for guys 6 ft five. And this is a nice pick for the Marlins last year. They wanted a college hitter at 16. The two guys they wanted see for King and Cam smith got their pocket picked this year. They were hoping for our kid. Didn’t really think he’d get here and they did. And I just wanted to say this has been interesting. After the first couple of picks went a little differently, we thought they might. Mariners got the guy they wanted and Seth and Kate anderson Rockies got the guy. They coveted Ethan holiday. The Pirates were hoping for Seth hernandez at six and they got him and now the Marlins got Ivar at seven. I think there are a lot of happy teams right now who got the best case scenario coming into today that came true for him. And while you’re looking for it led the Beavers an average and home run. You love to see it, Greg. He also played great at the Cape Iva Arquette, the 6 ft 5, 220 pounds shortstop off the board to the Miami Marlins. For the next pick at number 46 the 46th pick of the 2025 MLB draft. The Miami Marlins select Brandon Compton, an outfielder from Arizona State University. The los Angeles Angels have the next pick. Interesting guy here Dan because in 2024 at a su we hit over 350 Then at 14 home runs in 2025 step back to 271. Where do you profile brandon Compton right now? I think it’s power overhead. You know, Tony, I don’t know if you’ve seen a lot of this guy for me, his power overhead his legitimate power though. He plays profiles in the outfield. Fine. Um He, he’s a guy for me that I think if he figures out some things from a movement pattern offensively, he can be a way better hitter than what he is. He put on a show at the combine. That was a joke. I mean, just a joke. His exit velocity is just a strong, powerful young man. It’s just, you know, he’s going to have to show some hit ability to get to the power by nature of his background that might come with just repetitions because Greg, this will get you all fired up. He was recruited more as a pitcher, a true two way player to Arizona State. But pitcher first to begin with and Then evolved into what he is with the bat. Yeah, I was going to say the same thing. There’s room for growth there because he had tommy john surgery. So it’s only really been two years as a full time hitter. So I, I kind of like that aspect that when you focus on one, maybe you have more room for growth in the typical 21 year old college player. With the 43rd pick of the 2025 MLB draft. The Miami Marlins select Cam Cantarella, an outfielder from Cle from Clemson University. This concludes the first round and the compensation round round two will continue on the MLB network. Thank you and have a good night , Cam Canella. If you like guys with a high motor who will literally risk everything to catch a fly ball. You’re going to be a fan of this kid Cam Canella. I’m going to throw a cop and you guys just go ahead and feast on me. I’ve been a fan of this kid that comes up for a while. 6 ft 100 and 85 pounds. He’s not as tall. I totally get it. I’m not gonna say PC A, no one saw 40 Homer power from Pete Crow Armstrong. He’s on pace, hit 44. I’m gonna say Jackson Merrill is my, you could dream on Jackson Merrill for Cam Canaro see that a little bit. I was just gonna say since this is my last segment here. Not previously drafted. We’ve seen this quite a bit where guys have not been drafted in clubs, go get them after the development in college, do all say your last words? We’re out of here. You’re unbelievable. He’s been entertained. You just drop the Jackson Merrill on him. I want him to have the best night of his life. Jackson Merrill in the box is Jackson Merrill first round Hall of Famer yet Merrill is 21 years old angle. In comparison to Canella Cantarella, we are talking about legitimately an eight defender in center field, tremendous things, things to go get the ball. It’s more of a back to ball contact type guy. He did have a serious labrum injury which limited his throwing in his base dealing this year. But you’re just betting on the strength, the strength is gonna have to come for him to impact our game. But he is an elite defensive center fielder. With the 78th pick of the 2025 MLB draft. The Miami Marlins select Max Williams, an outfielder from Florida State. The los Angeles Angels have the next pick. Max Williams is the guy that homered his first career at bat at Florida State in 2024. The power 19 bombs this past season. Uh What do you make of his swing though? Dan, what do you think it’s more strength over hit ability? It’s a unique setup. He gets deep into his legs. Um, you know, profile is ok in the outfielders, he’s going to have to become a little bit better hitter to be able to get to the power consistently all position players tonight by the Marlins, by the way, they must have done their board and these are the best available, right? No, I think it’s a concerted effort to realize it’s the, it’s the thing that’s lacking within their development system right now. I think they’re taking me and they’ve had a really tough time developing hitters. They invested heavily in them last year. PG Mio was all the way back to the Vanderbilt JT struggled but played better when he got to Oakland Watson struggled. He’s played better in the Cleveland system. But yeah, they’re, they’re trying to address the need and they need to improve their development of hitters as well. He had 316 this past year, Max Williams, 20 years of age, the junior off the board to the Marlins.

I think we did a good job in the draft got some real good hitters and we definitely needed more Outfield depth in the farm. I would give it a B to A draft so far just need now pitching.
Suprised Canerrela went so late. Great add! Excited about this draft!
