I'm sure maybe it would have some issues, specifically regarding the Charlotee Hornets, but I'm not exactly still 100% sure why the team won't do it. The New Orleans Hornets jerseys were so sick! If anyone could explain to me it'd be much appreciated. Thanks.

  1. I have a few guesses.

    1. The Pelicans as we know it are still pretty young as a franchise and a “throwback” to a franchise that still exists is a little premature

    2. Fan sentiment around losing the hornets isn’t very good. When the Titans do an “Oilers Throwback” it gets hate from all around the league because, even though they look clean af, it’s in bad taste.

    3. I feel like our fans have a sort of “jersey fatigue”. Meaning there’s been several city edition jerseys to come out in the last few years and have sorta oversaturated our closets. Adding another to the mix will drive down sales of the others

  2. I miss them being the Hornets. The colors, logo, jerseys and court design were so much better. I always try to get into rooting for the new Hornets as a second team, but I don’t have enough attention span to follow two teams.

  3. I feel like the biggest issue is just that you can’t do any throwback Hornets jersey that looks too much like a current Charlotte Hornets jersey. The league might be concerned it might be confusing and Charlotte might try to exercise some kind of copyright on it. Maybe they wouldn’t care, but personally I would find it a bit weird to use them when when there’s currently a different Hornets franchise

    It could maybe work so long as the yellow is there since Charlotte doesn’t seem to use the yellow at all

  4. I think part of it is the owners feel like the Pelicans are the new orleans team and that the hornets didnt represent the state due to the relocation.

    As an international fan, I do wish they would not ignore that era, it had some of the best highs the team has seen. I don’t see why throwbacks would cause any issue with the Charlotte hornets as teams have similar colour alt jerseys all the time.

  8. the pelicans have already struggled to be established. i feel like people have only recently gotten the hang that we exist. i mean its probably more of basketball reasons than anything but how much our regular jerseys suck sure doesn’t help.

    the team has only been around for like 20 years and the pelicans themselves only about a decade or so. i think it’s just too soon to do a hornets throwback.

  15. They should have changed the name as soon as the team got here. Stealing another city’s vibe is chickenshit, see Lakers, Jazz. New Orleans doesnt need to represent NC colors.

  16. We never should’ve been the new orleans hornets imo. Should’ve changed our name as soon as we got the team.
