NFL Trade Rumors The Falcons May Be Monitoring Before Training Camp

I want to talk about some potential trades the Atlanta Falcons could be a part of. Now, full disclosure, I’m not up here saying that the Falcons are going to make these trades or they should make these trades. Absolutely. But I just want to put them in front of you so that you can make your own decision as to whether or not Atlanta should pursue maybe one of these two players. So, let’s talk about pair of wide receivers. Now, Atlanta does not have a dire need at wide receiver. They have Drake London. They have Darnell Mooney. Ray Mloud exceeded my expectations last year. Kyle Pittz is in a makeorb breakak season for the Falcons. So, in a lot of ways, it may not make a ton of sense for the Falcons to pursue a wide receiver, but I could also see a world where Terry Fontau goes, “Hey, it’s kind of make or break for me this year. Back is against the wall. Michael Pennix has to work out. If he does not have a good year, I’m gone. I’m the GM that had losing season after losing season. I’m the GM that signed Kirk Cousins to a big contract and we didn’t even finish the year with him, used a top 10 draft pick on a different quarterback. And if that quarterback doesn’t play well, I’m hightailing it out of here. I am absolutely getting canned on Black Monday after week seven, week 18. So from that perspective, I think you can see a world where Fontine might go, well, there’s a really good wide receiver available that we did did not think would be available, and we’re in the business of supporting Penn and a makeorb breakak season for myself. So when you put it that way, I could see Terry going, “Let me just call. I just want to know what the price is, right? I’m not going to buy. I’m just curious. I just saw an ad. I just want to reach out and see what the going rate is. So, let’s talk about these two players. Starting with Terry McLaren, the Washington Commanders wide receiver who has been one of the most like I guess I don’t want to say underrated, but when we talk about the best wide, like everyone knows Scary Terry’s good, right? But when we talk about the best receivers, we talk about Justin Jefferson, Jamar Chase, Tyreek Hill, and not that Scary Terry is in that tier, but it’s that he’s not very far from that tier as people might think, right? He kind of gets looked at as like this second or third option a lot of times when you’re looking over some of the best receivers. And I’m going to put Terry’s name out there as he’s one of the better receivers in football and we need to talk about him in that light. So, here’s what’s going on. He is looking for a new contract from the commies. He’s entering the final year of a three-year extension that he signed back in 2022. And understandably so, coming off a thousand plus yard season, 13 touchdowns, nearly 100 grabs. He wants to get paid. He’s approaching 30 years old and so he knows he probably doesn’t have a ton of paydays left in his, you know, lifespan. And I can understand that. Now, does it make sense for the Commanders to trade him? No. No, it does not. But the Commanders are a dumb organization now that they don’t have um what’s his face, the owner there anymore, Snyder, Dan Snyder. Maybe they’re not going to be as dumb as they were before, but dumb organizations do dumb things from time to time, and trading him away would be a dumb thing. As for the Atlanta Falcons, trading for him, it’s going to be hard not to be excited about that. Yes, he is older. He’s 29, turning 30. So, we’re not looking at, you know, six or seven more great seasons of McLaren. Maybe four or five great seasons of Scary Terry. But it’d be a lot of fun to put him, Drake London, and Darnell Mooney on the field together with Bejon and Michael Michael Pennix. Like, from that element alone alone, it’s hard not to look at that as something very exciting. So, I’m definitely open to the idea of making a deal with the commies to get McLaren down to Atlanta. The tough thing is the Falcons are low on draft capital. They don’t have their first round pick for next year. They don’t have their fifth round pick for next year as well. So, they’re already a little bit uh short in the draft capital department. And this is coming off a draft where they only had five picks. So, that’s something to think about a little bit. But, that’s one player to look at. Tara McLuren, let me know if you’re interested in trading him. We’re going to look at the next player in just a moment, but I do have to give a quick shout out to our friends over at Factor. Summer is here. All that information is in the comments and description of today’s video. Now, switching gears, let’s talk about another player the Falcons could maybe make a move for, and that is the San Francisco 49ers wide receiver, Joan Jennings. Let me open up with the elephant in the room because if you’re a Georgia fan watching and you go, why do I know that name? Oh, that’s him. Yeah, Jawan Jennings, my Tennessee guy, he’s the guy who caught the Hail Mary in Athens in 2016. So, if you’re willing to move on from that, because I I’m gonna go on a limb right now and say Georgia football has actually had some success since that versus my Volunteers. So, if you’re willing to just forget that for a little bit here, I like this idea. I mean, obviously, I’m a little biased, but I just think I think Jawan’s a dog. I mean, the guy was so close to being the Super Bowl MVP. If the Niners did not blow that game against the Chiefs, he would have been the MVP for sure. Uh, fun trivia by the way, Niners Chiefs, that Super Bowl two years ago, whatever it was in Vegas, Jawan Jennings was the highest ranked high school quarterback on that field with Brock Perie, Patrick Mahomes, the backups, all that. Jan had the highest high school football ranking as a quarterback. Anywh who, let’s talk about whether or not it makes sense for Atlanta. First, actually, why is this a conversation? Because like Terry McLuren, comes down to money. Jawan got an extension. He was an undrafted free agent who got his RFA, restricted free agent contract. He got a two-year extension last year. Pays like seven million a season. It’s a bargain. And Jawan knows that. And so he wants an extension. And I think the Niners are going to prioritize this. But they did just extended Iayuk. They drafted Ricky Pawol. they may feel like they’ve devoted too many resources to the wide receiver room to offer up more money to that position. So, I could see them telling him, “Hey, we just don’t have the liquid to get this done.” So, if a team out there wants to give us an offer better than what we think you’re worth because we just don’t have the resources to invest it in you, we’d be interested. But with IU coming off an ACL, an MCL tear, I don’t think they want to trade Jawan. So, it would have to be a really good compelling offer for the Niners to move off of him. Something that I don’t see Atlanta doing, but they’ve got Darnell Mooney to work the sidelines, right? He’s the speed guy. He’s the go guy. He runs the nine route. Drake London does it all. He’s awesome. Joanna is an excellent yards after contact, yards after the catch type player. And so if they want someone to fill that role for them over the middle for Pennix in year two, I’d be on board. So it’s a name to keep an eye on. I’m not going to put a ton of stock into it because Atlanta’s good at receiver. If the Falcons really needed one, then these names would be higher up on my totem pole. But the fact that they’ve got London and Mooney and Ray Mloud who I’m kind of excluding from this, they may just decide, hey, timing isn’t right for us. But I go back to what I said at the beginning of the video. What if Terry Fontau has, you know, a night terror and he wakes up in the middle of his sweat tonight and he goes, I have to make this year work or else I’m getting fired. And in order for this year to be a success, Michael Penn must be a success. So, I will not stop short of making Panic successful by surrounding him with the best pieces, which he’s already surrounded by some great pieces, but more is more. So, an idea. All right, that will do it for us on today’s episode. Thank you guys so much for tuning in. If you haven’t yet, do me a big favor. 1. The only person to move if they move anyone on the offensive side is Pitts. If he isn't moving like he wants to be there in his route running, I would say bye bye to him.
