#DallasCowboys Fish at 6 Live Report: Trade Sam? Damn!
Let’s play in the Cowboys sandbox and do a brain experiment. They have all of a sudden a strength at a particular position. How about a trade? I’m Mike Fisher, your trusty and trusted reporter. This is the fishbowl. We have packed our bags and we’re heading to Oxnard for a bit and we look forward to seeing uh many of you 75,000 fish heads in Cowboy Nation who will be hanging out there for the first uh week or so, first few days of training camp. If you see me, holla. If I don’t acknowledge you, it’s not cuz I’m a slappy, it’s cuz I’m half deaf. Busy off season for the Dallas Cowboys relative to last year. Anyway, um not busy enough for many. You know, we see the the grades coming in on what the Cowboys did and didn’t do. Again, all things are relative. And so if you compare it to the the minus12 of last year and it’s plus 12 this year in terms of bodies who figure to contribute maybe it’s better. They bring in among the many many many many others a host of defensive end candidates. Here comes Dante Fowler. Uh he’s like a nephew to Dan Quinn. I still don’t understand what happened. He of course leaves here to go with Dan Quinn to Washington. Has 10 and a half sacks and they don’t they don’t beat down his door to bring him back. I don’t I don’t get it. Dean RS I call it selective hearing. Man, my dad used to have that when he was a he was a young father. He could hear the newspaper. He could hear the TV. Okay. He just couldn’t hear the six of us. So, I get you. I hear you. Uh Dante Fowler, who is a top of the rotation guy, if you put him in position to sack, succeed, and give him that many snaps, it it’ll happen. They get Payton Turner, former first round pick, New Orleans Saints. It’s never happened for him. It’s just never happened for him, but that’s a good cheap trick. It’s worth a try. They draft easy and um rave reviews so far from inside this building on him and seems like a hell of a guy. Uh Fish, you should respond to Reed. I always do. Father had two good years in a row. Indeed, he did. Fish, I tried to address this yesterday. Oxnard attendance is down due to facility, not apathy. I don’t. What does that mean? Read I’m dumb. What does that mean? Not I know what apathy means. What do you mean facility? I mean it doesn’t work for people. Uh logistics, finance. I I’m I’m fascinated. Thank you, Allan, for telling me to read his comment. Of course, now I don’t know what the hell his comment means. I’m sure Reed will explain as he uh eloquently does uh on all occasions. And then of course Mike is at the other end. So you’ve collected um a bunch of bodies and Nan’s still here. Young Nean who is the most widebodied runstoppping kind of guy among the youngsters. Certainly. Am I leaving anybody out? uh that that’s a that’s a pretty good assemblage of guys who ought to be able to help you. And so along comes the idea and our man Dan Rogers of Blogging the Boys who does a sharp job, you know, and this is the brain exercise part of this. He’s saying even though Tank Lawrence is gone, he’s saying, “Do they have so many of them that they should trade one of them?” Okay, here’s Reed. The Oxnard experience, the Oxnard practice experience is not what it used to be. And now I get what you’re saying, Reed. Facility. The facilities you can’t access. I’m going to take a minute on this. This is true. And and you know what? We might do a deeper study on this when we get to Oxnard and take another look at it. You used to be able to have access to all around. That access is limited. They’ve with the houses on one side, they put up a gigantic wall that kind of cuts off the experience a little bit. Um, you’re you’re further away from the actual field. The sitting in the hot bleachers, that’s always been the case. I don’t know when that hasn’t been the case. Um, parking read parking is actually better than it used to be. Used to be a mad scramble. At least now they’ve cleared out that lot. But your point’s good. your your point’s good in in terms of like super access to players. It’s it’s super limited. Um I will note this in fairness because I listen I liked it better when I I liked Lucy Goosey better. That’s never going to happen again. If I’m understanding the Eagles deal right, they do one Somebody tell me if I’m on to something here. They do one training camp practice that’s wide open to the public. Can that be true? Uh, Kula Sharky Fish Fowler sacks are iffy at best. He ignored the run. You get to get sacks. Um, and the Cowboys fell for it. Completely disagree, Sharky, about the Cowboy side of it. I can’t say that that didn’t happen in Washington, but he was playing for his surrogate uncle. You’d think Dan Quinn would have been able to say, “We got to do a little this, a little that.” And then, by the way, if he’s just doing that, what why’ they keep playing him? But here, Sharky, I’m suggesting they will put him in positions to sack succeed. I’m not particularly interested in putting Dante Fowler into a game on third and one. That that’s that’s not his bag. I don’t think it’s been his bag for a long time. Third and seven. I’m putting Dante Fowler in the game and he can go for a sack. I think you got to fit the guy to the situation. And and that’s what I’m pretty sure the plan is here. So you got these bodies. How about a trade? And I’m saying if you get through training training camp and all these bodies look like they can do something. One of the ones I’m not trading is Sam Ghost Face Gaming. Who’s number two quarterback? Greer or Milton? Uh mini camp changed everything. Right now it would be Milton. Kurt S. Can you ever have enough pass rushers? not in this organization’s mind. And this goes all the way back to Jimmy when you you go look at those those Super Bowl leading up to the Super Bowl and those Super Bowl teams had incredible depth in the defensive line, depth and versatility, size and speed. Now, they didn’t have gigantic bodies, but the guys with some size also had speed. seemed like every guy there could do three technique stuff, athletic stuff, and of course Jimmy like the upfield defensive lineman interior as well. But, you know, by by the time you’ve got, you know, Jim Jeff Coats coming off the bench and Jimmy Jones coming off the bench and Chad Hennings is coming off the B. Wow. That’s that’s what this organization likes and they’ve always liked it. So, I am collecting pass rush defensive ends because I think they’re hard to come by. Gary Fish, you’re telling the truth about the Eagles. One one shot, one shot deal. William Jennings, how about if we trade a defensive end for a nose tackle? You could trade something for a nose tackle. And if this is a position of excess, the way this conversation suggests it might be, maybe. But Sam is in a different situation for me. It’s a crowded room, but I recall as you do his rookie year, Johnny Luxury, can we trade Mazy to who? Remember all the players that you don’t like on the Cowboy roster, there’s no reason for the other 31 teams to like him any better than you do. AD Big Fish, I saw a report Tyron working with Tyler Gayton. Is there truth to that? Absolutely. And this is going to lead to something. Hey, they should hire him as a coach. No, no, this is good. This is good. This this gives and this is something that this organization has done for a long time. Garrett very much embraced it. Uh McCarthy did too and Shotti with Legends Day. Shotti has come out. He’s the first guy to like announce it. If you used to play for the Cowboys, come on in. We’d love to have you. You have to be careful with it. Every guy doesn’t really get to be a coach. And I won’t mention I won’t mention the name of the one guy that oversteps his bounds all the time. But we’ll get to training camp and and Casillas will be hanging out a little bit and maybe Novachek will be over there and Nate Non will be over there and to have uh to have Tyron Smith. No, you don’t have to commit your life to this because that’s what you have to do if you want to be an assistant line offensive line coach. But no, you you want to come and and work with some of the young guys. Yeah. So, so Tyron advising Gton is fantastic and it’s part of um really the the a modern tradition here and it’s pretty cool. Hyo, does Gton have a bad attitude? There’s never been an indication of that. Remember the very first Gen story we did was like like the minute he got drafted, he got an apartment across the street from the star. So, no attitude issues here. Uh Sharky Micah gets his sacks the same way. Not enough of them. If you’re going to really if a guy really wanted to play that way, first of all, Sharky, if a guy really played that way, do you really not think somebody in the organization would go, “Listen, son, we we can’t give you $40 million if if you’re going to not want to tackle.” But I understand your point. Guys do Pass rushers do know, they recognize number one, you get paid by getting sacks. Number two, you change the game by getting sacks. Uh it is on not only the player, but on the coaching staff to make sure everything’s funneled properly. Gary, speaking of the Eagles, Big Dom has been doing celebrity the He’s like he’s the the security guard is in charge of things in Philadelphia, but they do win the games. Williams, rookie year, four sacks, three fumble recoveries, 10 tackles for loss, and he had no idea what he was doing. Tom McCall fish, you have a good grasp of history. You make an excellent point regarding the collecting of defensive ends. 2003, here comes Sam again. Four and a half sacks, another forest rumble, gets a safety, four more tackles, uh, and and bunch more tackles behind the line of scrimmage. What was mixed in to the Sam experience? He just didn’t seem to always quite know what he was doing. And then then the off the- field dangerous goofiness. Uh Onim Musha, Uncle Fish Premium, “Hey, how do I get the circle in the Star? Ask the fellas and Onimusha and they’ll tell you how.” Fish, I took the day off so I could see this show live. Well, nobody tell Anushia’s boss. Any chance you can start the show an hour later so I can catch more live? When we are in Oxnard, I I bet you we we’re gonna do it on time, but don’t be surprised if we pop in here, pop in there. Stay on your toes. Dean R. Sam is going to blow up. I can see that, too. Now, is he a onedimensional guy? I is Is he willing and able to play the run? Because the guy that can do that is going to get that many more snaps. But the idea of trading Sam right ahead of what seems like it’s going to be a breakout year. Johnny Luxury Fish. What about those nipples, son? Those aren’t nipples. That’s muscle. Try it sometime. By the way, Johnny Luxury, you keep looking at my personal junk, forgetting that not only am I not attracted to you, but I’m happily married. So, uh, your eyes belong. My face is up here, Johnny. My face is up here. Williams expected to show up at camp fully healthy, I think. and more mature. I think Elliot Bryant, you get it. Elliot Bryant, you should get a circle in the Star. You’re so smart. Quit undressing me with your eyes. Go find yourself your own sweetheart. Here’s here’s the problem. And I’m not saying that Sam Williams isn’t a commodity at some level. What’s another team giving you for Sam Williams? who, as far as they know, gets gets four sacks and is hurt and does goofy things. What’s another team giving you? A fifth, a fourth. Let Sam Williams have a big year. I pick a number. Seven sacks. Let him have a Dorance Armstrong kind of year. And then the Cowboys judge him to be good but not great, which they do quite often. And then he signs somewhere in free agency and you get your comp pick. Sean Stevenson, that’s it. Straight dope, no bullsh. Do the Cowboys overplay and overvalue the comp? They do. But why would I give up the player to get a fourth round pick when I can keep the player and then let him go later and get a fourth round pick? And keep in mind MP Fro $5 pitch in. We have enough depth. Let’s keep the depth and let Micah freelance again. And you’re talking about, I don’t know about freelance, but you’re talking about Micah as a moving chest piece, which I’m not saying take him out of his greatest strength. I’m saying, and I’ve said it before, and I agree with you, the off I want the offensive coordin coordinator and the quarterback and the tackles to go, where is he? Uh oh, he’s over here. Oh no, he’s over here. I think there’s an advantage in that. Reed, did the Jets save money by signing Sauce early? The Jets signed Garrett Wilson, the wide receiver. He gets 32.5 million and they signed Sash Gardner and he gets his 30. And of course, early is a matter of debate. In the case of Garrett Wilson, they do it after both of them, right? They did it after three years. And yes, they will have saved money by not waiting another year. That much is true. Um, what I find fascinating about today’s transactions, Trey Smith, the great offensive lineman in Kansas City, today was franchise tag day. Boom. They did his deal. Training camp’s coming. Deadlines make deals. Sauce gets his deal. Garrett Wilson gets his deal. And by the way, the Jets stink. And they’re still lining up big deals for young guys. So now since deadlines make deals, you know what needs to happen in Dallas next, right? Broken Halo, why don’t we decide on our defensive end depth after we get to training camp? questionable off the- field decisions, questionable on the- field decisions, an immense amount of talent, uh, a little bit of a sketchy background allegedly. But now here comes Sam. Trading Sam Williams today because you think you have an excess violates the beauty of having an excess. Number one. Number two, forgets the comp formula where you’re going to get paid for him if you lose him. And we know that the Cowboys do this, right? They’ll they’ll pay the top of the top of the line guy. They’ll always pay that guy. They do a good job of keeping the Jordan Lewis’s around here down here. But if you’re Dorrence Armstrong in the middle, if you’re uh Biatish in the middle and some they and I want to pay you five and somebody else wants to pay you 10, they let you go. For better or for worse, Sam Williams can end up being that middle guy that goes somewhere else. But the the the maturity breakout, it’s coming one of these days. Let’s see if it comes this year. the comp pick thing valuable too. Uh the depth at defensive end. There it is. And it’s funny in football. One injury and all of a sudden you don’t have depth anymore. Trade away one guy and the next thing you know you don’t have depth anymore. Alan Wright. Well, Alan, you’re such a good wordssmith. It shocks me that you would wrongly use the word agenda. I don’t have an agenda. I I have a plan. It’s like a TV show. I don’t just come on here and go, “Okay, well, what do you guys want to talk about?” But Allan, your point’s fine otherwise. I I I would have no problem coming on and saying, “We’re going to open up to everybody’s questions, everybody’s statements and questions, and I read and respond to all of them.” I think I think that’d be good. I’m not I’m not trading my excess where excess helps and pass rush defensive end where you rotate in where guys are spot players where this guy’s got a strength and that guy’s got that other strength. That ain’t it. Sam Williams has a chance to blossom into something this year and I want the Cowboys to harness that and then we’ll worry about next year next year. It’s not unlike in a in a sense not unlike what what you’re doing on offense with George Pickins. We we have no idea where that contract’s going. We’ll see. Let’s let him play. Let’s let him play here first. And in a mediumcase scenario, George Pickkins plays well here, gets a contract to go someplace else, and you get a comp pick. Same thing with uh Sam Williams. Yeah, I made my comments on Fox Sports One the other day. Um I mean, everybody’s in the hallway having sex with each other. income. Skip Bis offers $1.5 million to get on the pile. Get on the sex pile and all the men and women turn around and go. That’s what allegedly happened at Fox Sports One. Stephen Arthur Fish, what’s the latest on Overstone and Digs? Over just got named, I think this is ESPN doing a survey of personnel people. Uh a top 10 offthe-ball linebacker. Diddly diddly dink. He is. Who knew? But okay. uh he is targeting Thanksgiving or so for his comeback. Diggs, the Cowboys privately believe it’s going to take him half a year to get back. He is saying I I want to get back week one. Uh that’s a carrot on a stick and a good one. Uh Allan, I mean, uh yeah, Mr. Wright, you’re you’re answer everybody’s questions. Good gosh, it looks like I’m doing it. Uh Wrangle Fish overshow might return by November Thanksgiving. Um, Heisenberg. Well, Skip is married. Um, sources suggest that Skip’s married to an adrogynous blowup doll. That’s what I heard. Uh, Carl trade Micah Parsons. No. And and that’s why I don’t answer every single question on this show and every single statement. Uh, cowboyscountry.com is where we live. That’s how Marsha pays the light bills here in Marshia’s mansion. And breakfast at Fishes 8 a.m. tomorrow morning. Come get you some. Cowboyscountry.com. And thank you for all your questions, comments, and criticisms. Fish out.

I’ll be a sloppy … After last years fiasco I hod my opinion until they are better than 10/6.
Dallas kept 5 Defense Ends last year. Why wouldn't they keep 5 and rotate the hell. Does Micah count as an end or a linebacker?
Fish you "sloppied" me in Denver a few summers ago
Rotate
I laugh at the impending doom stories about Pickens coming from the anti cowboy writers from Athlon, FS1 and ESPN
I stand at the top of the bleachers
I love my cowboys m9re than anything, however 3rd and 7 against the cowboys I'm not throwing the ball! The have not proven they can run or stop the run. I pray they figure both out.
Keep 16 d linemen rotate
Chargers don't want mazi?
Sam Williams is here to stay!!!
Y'all better stop sleeping on the Boys
Na Fish, you never respond to me, and I’m your biggest Fish fan out of all the 75k! Lol!🎉🎉😮😮
OK right now we have a rookie with 0 experience. 2nd year dude with little plays, an old dude who had more offsides than big plays his last season here. A hold out and a guy returning from injury….
Not the ideal situation for a trade offer
When they practiced in Thousand Oaks, we used to be able to stand on the field with the players carry their helmets from the locker room to the practice field and I actually got to stand right next to Tom Landry while he was coaching and wasn’t allowed to stand there. And he would talk to you in the process. Those were the good old days.
If Sam is not gonna get a real opportunity to compete, then move on and try and package him for a quality starting space eater…
Diggs is going to be an average or below this year coming back from two knee surgeries in two years. He will not even be close to what he was in his first couple of seasons. Terrence Steele, if he is ever going to be as good as he was pre-injury, it will be this year. If he is not back there, time to find his replacement. This is the year that makes or breaks him. Should finally be as close to 100% as he will ever be. I have a strong feeling that this is Diggs last season as a Cowboys corner. He will have to have one heck of a season to be here in 2026. I honestly don't think he will ever be back to what he once was. Sam Williams, the question is, will he have the same burst of speed as before his injury. I doubt it this season. Any knee injury or lower leg injury takes a minimum of 18 months to fully heal. Some it takes over two years. Yes they can get back on the field faster than that, but as good as sports medicine has become, only time can fully get a player back to 100%.
let him ball out than tag and trade him
Thanks!
I live in Oxnard if you sit on the VIP side pay too much money and he can’t see the players if you stay on the free side if the players go to the VIP side, you can’t see the players😊
Trading him would be dumb af
Let Big Sam Work and we shall see 👀
I wish they would keep practices closed, we dont need the distractions. Yea its fun but horrible focus concept
Why trade one of our best hitters, Sam is badass. Trade Micah, he can’t hit unless it is a QB.
You keep this roster together this season and rotate players and keep them fresh 4 quarters and beat the snot out of whoever they play
Hey Fish, sorry to be a slappy, but you said around 12:16 Sam Williams in 2003… The problem with the statement is Sam's rookie season was in 2022, 19yrs after 2003. Sorry, but not sorry to call you out on this, but if you were correct about the time frame, Sam would 4yrs old, having born in 1999, in the NFL. Now Fish I know mistakes can and are made by everybody on a daily biases. Although I think someone with your experience and professionalism would have his dates down better.
Cowboys do two – three trades every decade, and all these Cowboys channels and commenters want to do nonstop is talk about making trades
The defense will be the weak link linebackers and corners.injuries will again play a big part. can't stop the run.
thats what i told my cousin….all things are relative
Sam is better than Payton
Petition to put Sam at the 3 technique several times a game
Any contract news on Micah or EZ?
Lately the Cowboy's defense has been good at rushing the quarterbacks. THEY CAN'T STOP THE RUN. That's the problem
“What about those nipples” is INSANE 😂😂😂😂😂
