MLB LIVE🔴 New York Mets vs Cincinnati Reds – Jul 18, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO

and welcome into the ballpark. Happy to have you with us. Major League Baseball on tap. It’s the Cincinnati Reds going up against the New York Mets. Joined by my partner Chris Singleton. I’m John Shami. Ziggy here at City Field and of course known as a pitcher park, but this ballpark’s gotten a little smaller over the years as they’ve changed the dimensions. It’s a different ballpark. It plays differently and these hitters are really feeding off of it. You give the pitcher a nice little lead and we see those guys getting comfortable and leading the team to victory. First pitch coming at you right after the break. about to get started here and taking the ball for the Mets. Frankie Montas and Singi. We were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots. Well, coming into this game, hitters are batting under 250 against this starting pitcher. So, it just shows you how effective he’s been. He’s been able to move his pitches around, add and subtract, change up the look so that hitters don’t get too comfortable, and start squaring up the baseball. We’ll see what he’s got in this one. TJ Friedel, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. That clips the corner. That’s to third. Mauricio fires across the diamond. One up, one down. Here’s the lineup for the Reds. They do a lot of things well in this offense, Singi. They control the strike zone. They make pitchers work hard for outs. And as a result, one of the better OBP teams in the league. Well, what I love about it is it’s an organizational philosophy. Whether you go to instructional league, whether you go to spring training, you see these guys even during batting practice when it doesn’t matter. They’re practicing that type of approach. Boo. And when you have that filtering through the organization, even when you call off a player, he steps right in and continues with the pattern that they have established at this level, which ultimately leads to a lot of success. That catches the corner. You know, you translate on base percentage, it’s basically this teams that have a high on base percentage, they don’t make outs at a very high rate. As my buddy Joe Sheen says, OBP is life. comes up empty. That’s strike two. One out. Base is empty. [Music] [Applause] That one drifts inside. Really good take, especially with two strikes. And that’s ball four. Take it base. Now, this was a story we were paying attention to before the game. We’ve seen him give up walks in the past and it’s an issue once again early on. Man at first with one gone. Now it’s the short stop. Runner on the move. Pitch in for a strike. Throw save. That’s a stolen base. I think that steel kind of sets the tone. not just for this game, but for the entire series. First inning, game one. So, that kind of tells me they’re going to be aggressive on offense and try to force the issue whenever they can. [Music] And strike two. I understand you want to try to gauge that guy’s fast, but you also have to be aggressive and ready to hit in your zone. Now, you’re in a tough spot. One out and a runner at second. Goes down looking. Most guys are very aggressive when they see the stakes out there, the base bats and can’t understand why he wasn’t ready to swing the bat. You’ve got to be ready to swing the bat in a situation like that with the go-ahead run in scoring position. And now it’s Austin Hayes. And a first pitch fast is in for a strike. Check swing. He went too far and it’s a strike. Man on second, two down. Swing get a ball popped up. Alonso settles under this one. Squeezes it. And that is that. Reds leave one. Now the Mets offense will go to work for the first time. No score. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. Back here with my pal Singi and today’s starting pitcher Graham Ashcraft and Chris pitching on the road has not been particularly kind to him. Yeah. And you don’t want to be too quick to say that he can’t pitch on the road. Sometimes, you know, it’s just a matter of luck. It’s not having a field difference between the bullpen mound to the mound out there on the playing field. Don’t know what it is, but I know this. He’s got good enough stuff to overcome and get it done on the road as well as at home. So, we’ll see what he’s able to do in this one. Eddie Diaz tap foul at the plate. Lindor in his 10th season, 31 years old, and he was born in Puerto Rico. Kick Sanios. That one fouled off. Get out of here. [Applause] That one way inside. [Applause] That’s the ball. Two balls. Two strike. Now he breaks his bat. One gone. Bottom half of the first. Here’s a Mets lineup. Now this group was shut out their last game. So we’re going to see if they can bounce back with a better effort here today. And Boo, it can get in your head a little bit when you get shut out. You’re frustrated. You’re seeing that consecutive streak of innings you haven’t scored. And you want to get off to a great start. score early because if you don’t, you feel like it could linger into two consecutive games which no one wants to be a part of. And first offering is fouled off Ashcraft. He’s become known as a guy that’s really tough to take deep. And that is especially valuable today, Chris, when the ball’s going out of the ballpark so much. edge of the zone for a strike. 0 and two. It’s very important. It’s all about run prevention, right? So, uh when you have that, it’s a plus. But if you are going to give up the long ball, you want the bases to be empty. And that’s where control and command really comes into play for a guy like this. Woo. Now, another solid power season. And a ground ball to first. And that’s just foul. Now the one and that one fouled off. Two out. Space is empty. and down on strikes. And it’s a three up, three down inning. Down in order go the Mets scoreless after one back here at City Field. And here’s the first baseman, Spencer Steer. Let’s go. Montas back to work. Just missed. Swings here and drives one well left field way back and you can’t forget it. He made him pay for that one. His 12th of the season. It’s one- nothing. He absolutely feasts on right-handed pitching and devours that one for a homer. And you can see that’s what he expects of himself at bat after at bat. He’s that confident. Anytime you have a pitch down the middle of the plate, the percentages go up for the hitter to do damage. Even if it’s a pretty good sinker like that one. Nice piece of hitting there at the plate. Noel V Marte now at the plate. That one’s in there. 0 and one. Oh, you just got to delete it. You give up that leadoff home run. Go back to work. Focus on this next batter. [Applause] Not even close there. One and one. Matthew Ross behind the plate. Pitchers umpire. Yeah, pitchers that work side to side effectively. Love being on the mound with Ross calling balls and strikes. Boo. If you can command your stuff on the outer edges of the strike zone, he will reward you on the ground right side and foul ball. What about some non nos? Like you can’t call the umpire blue the way you do in little league or high school, right? Yeah. Even in the minor leagues, you’ll learn quickly. Uh you call the umpire blue, you better learn his name. And uh that’s just part of being a professional player and even a major league player. Swing and a ground ball out to Short. Toss to Alonszo and that’s the first out. Nice recovery after giving up the homer. That’s what a good sinker is designed to do. Get a guy to roll over a little bit, get the ball on the ground, kill some worms while you’re at it. In now for the Reds, Tyler Stevenson. Take it high in the draft. He’s had that top prospect labeled over him since he put on a professional uniform. But at some point that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level. And first offering is fouled off. And that one upstairs. Ball one. One out. Base is empty and a run in here in the top of the second. [Applause] [Applause] swings through it for the K. Couldn’t catch up to the heater. That cutter right there had just enough movement on it to get the swing and miss. It wasn’t a great location by any means. That’s typically a spot that hitters can handle. So, I’d say he fooled him with just enough of that late action. Santiago Espino in the box now as he leaves that one up high and the one and another ball. Two balls. No strike. looked pretty good as far as being in the strike zone, but I’m sure as a hitter not too good with where it was located. Very top of the strike zone. Middle away. [Music] [Applause] Not close with that one. And that’s ball three. Cut on and miss. And it’s a strikeout. And that is the inning. One for the Reds on the homer. It’s now one- nothing. You’re dialed into the show. Ready to go for the last half of the inning. And now it’s the polar bear. All around. I think if you asked anyone in this organization who’s the best hitter in the lineup, they would say him. Boou, it didn’t take very long for Alonzo to set the home run record here at City Field. He passed Lucas Duda for the top spot in June of 2023 at 96. That pitch is in for a strike right through there for a strike. He doesn’t seem to like to pitch up. Hasn’t offered on either one of those pitches. 02 count now. I think the guy’s going to climb the ladder out there. Fights that one away and the count remains 0 and2. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. fans another and that’s three straight strikeouts. Well, clearly just anxious right there and understandably so in an 02 count you feel like you’ve got a lot of plate to cover and you don’t want to strike out and you end up striking out. That’s just one of those pitches where it’s not over the plate, but because you committed to it as it was leaving his hand, by the time you realized it wasn’t going to be in the zone, it’s too late to hold up your swing. Here’s Brandon NMO. And there’s a ball. [Applause] The one and foul ball. That one missed. [Applause] [Music] fouls one off. Two and two gets a piece and stays alive. One down. Base is empty. Popped up to the left into foul ground. Hauls it in for the out. And there are two down. Batting six. Third baseman. Ronnie Mauricio. Ronnie Mauricio now. And that’s in for a strike. It’s 0 and one. It’s amazing to look up and see 88 mph on that change up. Back in the day, that was a pretty good fast ball, but with high velocities these days, that speed differential is right where it needs to be. That’s off the inside corner at one and one. Outside corner. There’s a strike. Text offering upstairs. Two down, nobody on into left center for a base hit. Now he’ll turn for second and he starts his afternoon off right with a double. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. That pretty much split the zone down the middle and those are the ones where you got to make them pay. [Applause] Zo runner at second. Two down. Tyrone Taylor will hit next. [Music] That one’s in there. Going one. Ruer at second. Two down. Fast ball for a strike. And the count is 0 and two. And a bat like this is almost over as it begins. In this situation, you have no idea what the next pitch is going to be. You just got to hope that you can make contact. up the middle dives and he can’t hang on. No throw and they don’t get the outdo with runners on the corners. Luis Torren up now for the Mets. He’s been really clutch with runners in scoring position this season. So they’ll have to be extra careful in this matchup. He’s been such a good hitter with runners in scoring position. Some guys just take it to another level. For him right now at the plate, it’s like everyone else is in slow motion and he’s in full speed. Swinging a ground ball. Mlan throws to first in time. An acrobatic play to end the inning. Two left on. We head on down to the top of the third. It’s the Reds one and the Mets nothing. Top half of the third inning and ready to hit now for Cincinnati. Conor Joe and there’s a foul ball. [Applause] That’s a strike across the top of the zone. Well, we call that keyhole. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good, if he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count. Got him swinging. Make it four strikeouts for him on the bump today. Well, that’s the money maker right there. Two strikes slider down and away from a same side thrower as the hitter. I mean, that’s just tough. You’re looking to protect with two strikes and very difficult to lay off. So, digging in, TJ Fredel grounded out his first time up. And that’s downed away. And another ball. to an old cow. Here it comes. Two and one. That’s down and in. He’s great hitting the ball the other way and that pitch did a good job to straighten him up a bit. Mission accomplished. Swinging a ball. lifted left field. NMO makes the catch and there are two outs. Now batting second base. Next for Cincinnati, Matt Mlan worked a walk in his first trip to the plate. Let’s go. And a big swing and a miss. Oh, and one. Swing and a miss. No balls, two strikes. In this situation, as the number two hitter, two out, nobody on. You want to be a table setter. Work the at bat, get deep, whatever it takes. get on first base. He swings and hits a fly ball center field. Lindor racing over to make the catch. And one, two, three go the Reds. But they hold a one- nothing lead. And welcome back to the ballpark. And now Luis Anelun. Luis Anel Okuna. Swing and a ground ball and that one gets through into center field and that turns the lineup over. Well, clearly he was ready to hit right there. Just kept it simple. Played Pepper with the middle of the infield and took it back where it came from and there was just no one there to knock it down. And now a chance to maybe get creative on offense with good speed on first. Here’s Francisco Lindor. He’s 0 for one. First offering runner goes. Late swing fouled to the left. Tying run is at first here in the last half of the third. [Applause] That misses and the count is one and one. One ball, one strike. [Applause] Check swing. No appeal. One straight. Strike two. The two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. Rudder goes again. Swing and a miss. Throw to second. Tag and they got him right there. Trying to avoid that ground ball double play. Send the runner in that situation. Hope that maybe somebody moves out of position and your hitter puts the ball in play and you get a first and third situation. But unfortunately, strikeout, throw out, double play. Good job by the defense. And now it’s Mark Vientos 0 for one. He struck out swinging last time. at 96. That pitch is in for a strike. And that’s outside. [Music] And that misses. And that’s ball two. Two outs. Hard grounder into the outfield for a knock. Everything came together for him. I thought it was a ground ball, but it was absolutely hammered through the infield. That’s not one you’re excited to get in front of if you’re an infielder. You know, they used to say charge it crazy. So, two down. Here’s Juan Sodto caught looking his first time up and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Bentos the runner at first with two gone [Applause] in the air left field down the line. Lays out, but he can’t squeeze it to third. He’s safe at third and the tying run is 90 ft away. Well, I’m not saying that play was easy, but it was harder than it needed to be thanks to the bad jump. Those small moments can be costly. Here’s Petonzo. He struck out swinging at his first at [Applause] on the ground to short, whips it across and that takes care of Alonzo. Inning over. Two left for the Mets. They still trail one- nothing. Back here in Queens, John Champi with Chris Singleton and set to lead off the fourth, Ellie Dea Cruz. Yeah, there’s the strike. You know, one of the most memorable innings ever for Ellie happened in July 2023. In one inning, De La Cruz hit a two out single to take the lead and then proceeded to do something that a Reds player hasn’t done in more than 100 years. He stole second, third, and home in the same inning. It only took two pitches for him to steal all three bases [Applause] inside. Going to count one and two. Got him swinging. Really love the pitch sequence right there. I’m telling you what, pitcher and catcher on the same page right now. batting left fieldielder Austin Hayes. Austin Hayes the next to hit for the Reds. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Hayes goes 5′ 11 in 200 lb and he was a third round pick back in 2016. And that drops in for a strike. Just a really nice slider down and in there. He wants to get the hitter thinking fast ball. Speed him up and just subtract some velocity and add a little movement. That’s a ball. Base is empty. One away. Top half of inning number four. Bows it off. Still one and two. And they’ll do it again. Strike three. And that’s two in a row. Yeah, that’s a tough pitch to stay on. You don’t want to get beat inside. And as you see that pitch continue to run away from you, by the time it’s in the catcher’s mid, you think it’s a ball off the plate away. And now the first baseman, Spencer Steer. Foul ball. Popped foul out of play off to the right. Going two now. Foul ball left side. He’ll see another and ball one fights that one away. Still one and two. fouled off and they’ll do it again. Goes down looking for the strike out and he strikes out the side here in the fourth. Impeccable command in that one. Three batters, three strikeouts. That’s electric stuff out there on the mound. [Applause] bottom of the fourth and stepping in for New York, Brandon NMO. Brandon NMO. York. He swings and misses at the first pitch. 0 and one. Well, these Mets as this game goes on have to be more disciplined at the plate. They’re chasing a lot of pitches outside the zone and those chases are turning into a bunch of outs. Can they turn that around and stay within the zone? We’ll see. But I think they have to. [Music] And that’s outside. It’s a ball in two strikes. That’s inside. That’s inside. Outside with a breaking ball. Now in this three ball count down in the ball game, you’ve got to be very selective. Take your walk if they’ll give it to you. [Music] Ground ball right side. Mlan tosses to first. Lead off hitter retired in the fourth. Well, he’s doing a nice job of keeping the ball out of the air. Lets the defense work behind him with another ground ball. Good execution. And next for the Mets, Ronnie Mauricio. Pitch misses there and that is ball one. The Mets down by a run. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. [Applause] Sliced hard but foul. And now one and two. One down. Base is empty. In the dirt. Two and two. [Music] Got him looking. That’s a strike out. So, two down now. And here is Tyrone Taylor. Reached on an infield single his first time. And it’s fouled away. So glad these ballparks have installed the netting to protect the fans, keep things safer all around the league. Two down to on the ground right side Mlan and he has thrown four shut out innings. Nothing doing for the Mets. They’re down one- nothing. And we’re back. Ready now for the fifth inning. Now it’s the Reds DH. Noelv Marte. Montas back to work. That’s in there. That’s strike one. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Klay Holmes, the veteran right-hander appears to be loosening up. Braz getting loose as well. outside and now it’s even one and one. Good job to fight that one off. [Applause] Highf fly ball out towards left center and there’s one down. Now batting catcher Tyler and here comes the Mets manager to the mound. Pitching change coming. Montas is done in this one. Good effort out of him even though he exits on the hook for the loss. New arm on the bump after a quick break. Now pitching for the pitcher on here, Klay Holmes. Well, he’s been a really tough guy to take deep this season. You usually have to string some hits together in order to get to him. Tyler Stevenson, the next to hit for the Reds. Went down on strikes his first time through. to the right side. Slings to first in time. Now batting third baseman, Santiago Espel. So up next, Santiago Espel. He was a strikeout victim his first time. Let’s go. Pitch misses inside. One and0. Boo. He never moved cuz he never had time to. But that kind of velocity, you’d prefer that pitcher work away. Two balls, no strike. That one the other way. Akuna gets it to first and that is the inning. Reds down in order, but they still lead it one- nothing. New pitcher for the Reds, Nick Martinez. And this is an important part of this game. Tight score and still a lot of outs to get. So they’re looking for a big outing out of him right here to get some critical outs. Here’s the catcher to hit. Luis Torren rounded out his first time. Torren and a strike on the outside edge. The Cincinnati bullpen has some movement. Brent Sudter up and loosening in the pen. [Applause] Misses one and two to count. Man. Oh man. I don’t know how you take that pitch. That’s as close as it gets. Swang and a ball lifted in the air and it drops in. And a good start to the inning. Well, that certainly feels good when you can win the at bat after being down in the count up against it with two strikes right there. When you flare a ball out behind second base, it’s really a tough spot for anyone to get to. You’re never trying to do that as a hitter, but when you do, I tell you what, you’re yelling at it the entire way to get down. No outs, runner at first. So, up next for New York, Luis Aneloun. [Music] [Applause] And now it’s even up. [Applause] That one is absolutely belted and it one hops the wall and he’s got a double. He stayed close with the front side even though he likes to go to the opposite field. If you go inside too many times he’ll make you pay. So the go ahead run in scoring position and now it’s Frankie Lindor rolled softly but that goes foul [Applause] that one to first steps Ferris for the out. Now batting designated hitter Mark Ventos. So now here’s the Mets DH Mark Ventos. Golden opportunity right here. This is all about situational hitting. It’s crucial in this spot. Do whatever it takes to put the ball in play and hopefully you find a gap in the defense. has got some good opposite field power. What I like about something being hit to the right side into the outfield is that the base runner at second has a very good read and can determine whether or not he can score on that base hit. [Applause] Now it’s Bel to left way out of here. Home run. A three-run shot and that’s how they take the lead. It’s 3-1. Listen to these fans. This place is absolutely buzzing right now. You can feel the energy all the way up here in our broadcast booth. [Applause] He’s so good at getting his arms extended and that’s exactly what he did right there. You don’t typically want to pull a pitch in that part of the plate, but he doesn’t allow his wrist to roll over. Stays through the ball, gets the lo and gets the home run. Here comes the skipper, and we’re going to see a pitching change in this spot. Nick Martinez won’t go any further. Two-run ball game as he heads for the dugout. And we’ll be back with a new pitcher. [Applause] Brent Sudter comes on now and compared to a lot of other relievers, strikeouts have not been a big weapon for him this year. So, the defense should be active. One down and now it’s Juan Stoodto. Foul ball there. If you’re looking for a strikethrower, this is your guy. Doesn’t matter what era of baseball you’re talking about, you want someone that’s going to throw strikes and he’s your man. Swing and a miss. So, Chris, does the offense dial up the aggressiveness against him? What is the approach exactly? Well, there is confidence that, hey, I’m going to get a pitch to hit during the bat. There’s some guys where you’re thinking maybe I get one pitch to hit. It’s something that I have a chance to turn around. With this guy, you’re going to get two, maybe three. It’s just a matter of can you capitalize. Struck him out looking. Now, batting the first two down, base is empty. And next will be the Mets cleanup hitter, Pete Alonzo. Full for two in this one. Just missed. Two down, nobody on. Last half of inning number five. Next offering is fouled back. Two outs. Comebacker to the mound. the throw to first and that’s the third out. But the biggest swing of the inning comes right here. A three-run homer. It’s now a 3-1 ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Back here at City Field all set for the top of the sixth. In now for the Reds, Connor Joe fouled off down the right side. Well, these Reds just lacking discipline at the plate in this ball game. They’ve been chasing pitches outside the zone all game and it’s led to some frustrating moments. They’ve been fooled quite a bit today. And that skips into there. [Applause] misses the zone for a ball. That was the sweeper. He’s trying to stay down in the zone, but the hitter just will not chase. Now back in a two- two count. He’s going to have to go to something else to get him out. That one back up the middle and it gets through. So, a man on base to start the inning. now batting the center. Really nice job staying up the middle with his approach. He didn’t try to do too much with the pitch. Just shot it through the infield. Back to the top of the lineup. Now here’s the Red’s leadoff man, TJ Fedel. That one finds the zone. 4 and one. [Applause] Knocks that one away. And we’ll do it again. He’s gone off speed. He needs to elevate here with two strikes out of the zone. Line drive down the line and it’s fouled. Gets a piece and it stays 0 and two. [Applause] And he grounds one to the right side and it goes just fouled. [Applause] This one in the dirt. Runner holds. Count goes to one and two. Got him. He didn’t make it easy for him on the mound, but they still get the strike out. Matt Mlan the next to hit for the Reds. Definitely wants to stay out of the double play here. Ball on the ground in the infield. Should be an inning ending double play. Fly ball pretty well struck right field. Sodto moving back for it. And that ball is gone. And we are starting over. It’s 33. He only needed one swing to square it up. Not wasting any time in that at bat. Boo. Aggressive and it paid off. Boo. I wasn’t sure he hit that one as hard as he needed to to get it out of here, but it had just enough behind it for the homer. What an attempt at the wall, though. He really gave a terrific effort to try and bring that one back. So, it’s all tied up thanks to the home run. Ellie Dea Cruz getting ready to hit who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. That misses the zone and it’s one and0. Still only one out here in the inning. [Applause] Ground ball up the middle into the outfield base hit. So, a man aboard now with one away. Once you get the ball by the pitcher, there’s a lot of base hits up the middle, even on ground balls. So, a nice job to use that big hole and get himself a hit. And now, let’s see if they force some action with Good Wheels on the bases. Austin Hayes the next to hit. He’s been a great free agent side. [Applause] Outside low, ball one. This is a great dynamic right here. Speedy runner at first, thinking about taking second. Catcher with the pop time that leaves Jaws on the floor. This might get interesting. Boo Holmes throws over Cruz dives back in safely. There goes Ellie. Pitch misses. Save. Da Cruz gets his first steal of the game. And the go-ahead run is now in scoring position. Chris, his wheels were the difference maker on that play. Just got in there. Yeah, with Statcast’s help, we see his top speed on this stolen base. And that’s a big number. I mean, man, he really made his athleticism work for him on that one. Runner on the go again. Pitch inside. Safe. That’s two stolen bases now for Ellie Deo. And the go-ahead run is now only 90 ft away. [Applause] Next offering is in for a strike and ball forward to a board. Pretty easy walk right there. Last pitch wasn’t even much to think about. Up next for Cincinnati, first baseman Spitzer Ste. Spencer Steer now at the plate. He’s already homered here in this one. At the dish looking to lift the ball in the air in this spot. Anything but the inning inning double play. Boo. That one’s in there. Strike one. In this situation, the batter’s got to know what the pitcher is trying to do to him, and that’s trying to get him to hit the ball on the ground. Get two for one. You got to look for something up in the zone. At worst case scenario, you deliver the sacrifice fly. [Applause] Breaking ball misses down and away. [Applause] And that’s downstairs and outside. Lay off that pitch down. [Applause] That one misses. And that’s ball three. [Applause] Two on, one out and they’re all loaded up. Well, interesting. He went with the off speed and walked the hitter. Man, you got to challenge the guy with the fast. And now the DH Noelv Marte [Applause] And that one fouled off. [Applause] Fall off foul. [Applause] with the go ahead run at third and we’re in the top half of the sixth. Foul ball still 0 and two. [Applause] That one almost got him. [Applause] And that’s in the dirt. Two walks in the inning already and he just doesn’t seem comfortable out there like he can find the right mechanics and then repeat them. Foul ball. Another 2-2 upcoming [Applause] and a three to miss. Down on strikes. Huge strike out there. Certainly a strikeout situation right there. The infield playing back and this pitcher has to step up and get the swing and miss. Really nice job of attacking the hitter at the plate. Pretty big two out at bat coming up now. Tyler Stevenson the next to hit for the Reds. [Applause] Swing and attacker that rolls foul. [Applause] Dela Cruz the runner at third. Hayes at second. Steer at first. Two out of the inning. Little bouncer out in front of the plate. Over to first. They limit the damage here. Cincinnati plates a pair on this homer. We’re tied now with three apiece. It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show. Bottom of the sixth inning. And stepping in for New York, Brandon NMO. There’s a swing and a drive. gone. That one made it to the upper 10 and this place is rocking. His 19th home run of the year. It’s 43. One pitch, one swing, one home run. Yeah, you can say that’s efficiency right there. Didn’t need much time in the box to make an impact. [Applause] [Applause] Looks like this guy was looking out over the plate, but he was ready to turn on the inside. Fast ball. So direct to the pitch. Absolutely blasted out of this ballpark. And next for the Mets, Ronnie Mauricio. right through there for a strike. Well, these Mets digging into their numbers have to be happy with the swings they’re taking. They have five extra base hits on the stat sheet so far, and that tells me they’re seeing the ball out of the pitcher’s hand really well. The one strike 02 [Applause] ball one there. With all those extra base hits, it’s easy to think we’re going to see that trend continue the rest of the game. They seem to be really locked in at the plate. Nobody on, nobody out with a run in here in the bottom of the six. That one ran inside, almost got him. Fast ball is outside. [Applause] Struck him out looking with the off speed stuff. This guy will throw any pitch in any count. 32 off speed. Tyro Taylor. Tyrone Taylor digs in now. One for two. First offering and it just misses. [Applause] There’s the strike. [Applause] He goes down looking. Luis Torres now for the Mets. Lis swinging it much better this season in away games and here at home. Let’s go. [Applause] There’s a strike. No ball. One strike. [Music] And that one pulled foul. Look out. That ball was smoked. Man, I am so relieved that they have this netting down the line just ensures safety for the fans. Last thing as a player, you want to look up and see a fan get hit. [Applause] Oh, he hit him. And that got him pretty flush. He had two strikes on him and he hit him Luis on now for the Mets. [Applause] Close one. Doesn’t get the call. And that’s ball one. [Applause] That’s a little bit low. two and 0. [Applause] Puts it in the air out towards left center. Dela Cruz settles under it and that’ll do it. The Mets do pick up a run on this solo blast. It’s now a 43 ball game. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound. Ryan Stannis. These are the spots relievers really make a name for themselves. Late and close. There’s not much margin for error, but at the same time, there’s a reason they’re put in these situations. Leading off ready to hit now for Cincinnati. Santiago Espol. [Applause] That one’s upstairs. Ball one. Stirring in the bullpen for the Mets. Richard Love appears to be getting loose. The next pitch misses. Two balls, no strikes. [Music] Looking to get the tying run on base. Two ball one straight. [Applause] And that’s downstairs now. Three and one. Connor Joe in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. That one misses. So a lead off walk. Well, he tried to nibble right there and just missed his spot. Hitter didn’t offer it. Now he has somebody to worry about over at first. No outs. Runner at first. And the batter now, Connor Joe. If you’re a base runner, you got to stay dialed in here. Look for anything in the dirt. Try your best to get in the scoring position. Swings through that one. 0 and one. There it was. A high velocity fastball in the zone. I think a little frustration from walking the previous hitter. He’s got good stuff. Pitch inside the zone and trust it. Swing and a highf fly ball left field. He’s got it. And there’s one away. Just pulled off of it a little bit right there. That front shoulder coming open instead of staying closed. If he does that, he’s going to be able to go up the middle the other way with some authority instead of a fly out to left. Here’s the center fielder TJ Fredel 0 for three. A fly out, a ground out, and a strike out. Fast for a strike. trying to hold a one-run lead here in the top half of inning number seven. [Applause] Pitch is in there. Only two now. All right. Now, he may have not liked either of those first two pitches or agreed with the umpire’s calls, but at this point, he’s going to have to bear down and be ready to hit anything close to the zone. Andy will shoot. Oh, and he hit him. I got him. Thank you, B. Now batting. Here’s the second base with Matt Mlan. He’s already homerred in this game. This is what stat nerds like myself might call a high leverage situation. Yeah, Boo. Not sure what the numbers say, but clearly an at bat that could change the course of this game dramatically. [Applause] And first pitch fastball is in for a strike. really good job in this spot to get ahead in the count. He’s going to have to continue finish off this hitter. One out. The possible tying and go ahead runs on base. Move to second back in on a dive. [Applause] You don’t want to get beat by a fast ball in and he spits on that one. Next offer is in for a strike. Definitely got the hitter conscious of the push inside. Really think the outer half is open. Got him looking and to just locked him up right there for the second out. And that’s the bat he’s probably going to be thinking about for a little while. didn’t pull the trigger. Not how you want to go down in an RBI spot. So now you got to hope your teammate behind you can pick you up. And here comes the Mets manager to the mound. Pitching change coming. Ryan Stannic will depart. And the line not closed on him yet as he’s responsible for the runners on base. Back with a new pitcher after this. Now pitching for the Mets with a new arm on the mound. Reed Garrett. Well, the best relievers love the opportunity to come in and protect the tight lead in the ball game. Some of them are just wired different. So, we’ll see what he’s got here. Big attack coming up with Ellie de la Cruz stepping in. One for three. Well struck deep right field. way back and out of here. That one felt good. His 19th home run of the year. It’s 6-4. That’s their third home run of the game. They’re having a lot of fun at the plate in this one. They’ve got the long ball working for them on autopilot. Welcome to the game. First pitch out of the bullpen. A tough one. and you know, he’s just trying to get one in there for a strike. And on the other side, as a hitter, it’s a great time to be aggressive and let it fly. It’s not what they were looking for when they turned to him, but now he’s got to find a way to reset. So, two down. Austin Hayes will hit next. [Applause] Close one. Doesn’t get the call. And that is ball one. [Applause] And another ball [Applause] right through there for a strike. [Applause] They had a foul ball out to short. Lindor slings it across and that is that. Reds get three on this long ball. It’s now a 64 ball game. Major League Baseball is on the show. We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. Sam Mole. This softball has been really good against left-handed hitters. Sam Mole. Francisco Lindor comes up to the plate. 0 for three in this one. Francisco Lindor and that misses and that’s ball one activity in the bullpen for the Reds. Taylor Rogers, the left-handed reliever appears to be getting loose. [Music] That’s off the mark. Two and 0. Two count. You really don’t want to give in here. You got to work the edges. Really execute a pitch. Hopefully you can get back into this count. That one missed. Now three and 0. So definitely a little wild right out of the gate. Well, it could be a little tough coming from the bullpin mound to this mound, but you’ve got to find a way to get ahead in the count quickly. He hasn’t. We’ll see how this at bat turns out. And so the lefty allows the lead off free pass and that’ll bring the tying run to the plate. Now batting and now it’s going to be Mark Ventos. [Applause] First pitch misses. A lot of pitchers have caught on to how good he is hitting the first pitch. Smart to avoid the zone right there. to the left side, but it is well fouled. Step off, throw to first. Lindor back in there with the tying run at the plate here in the bottom of the seventh and a count one and two. Really going after him here. All fast balls to get ahead in the count. Tying run at the plate. Spoils a two- strike pitch. And he’ll see another. [Applause] And the sweeper is off the plate. Lindor gets his lead at first with nobody out. [Applause] Misses. It’s a strike out. He’s locked in at the plate when he’s using the whole field. He was out in front there. Just needs to let the ball travel a little more and his timing will be back on track. Good pitch for the strike out. Juan Sodto the next to hit. [Music] First pitch just misses. [Applause] [Applause] Fast ball for a strike at 95. One [Applause] on a line. And there’s two away. Now batting the first baseman, Pete Alonszo. So up next for New York, Pete Alonzo 0 for three with two ground outs and a strikeout. [Applause] [Applause] The tying run at the plate. Swing and a liner foul off to the right up the middle. Tosses to first and that takes care of Alonzo. And that is that. Mets leave one. They trail it here. Six to four. New inning getting started. And here’s the first baseman, Spencer. Steer. Garrett back to work. Right through there for a strike. No, one strike [Applause] and a foul ball. Swings through it and that’s a strike out. That’s about as nasty of a splitter as you’ll come across, especially in terms of movement. I mean that thing tumbles out of his hand and just drops off the table at the last moment. He keeps it down. It’s just so tough to put wood on. Marte batting with one down. Takes the strike rift but a curls foul. Base is empty. One away and we’re in the top of the eighth. Cuts on it, misses. That’s a strike out. Couldn’t catch up to the heater. Now, catcher Tyler. Two out. Base is empty. And now the catcher comes up to him. Tyler Stevenson. [Applause] First catch and he just misses. Let’s go, New York. [Applause] That one fouled off. It’s been a solid inning so far in relief. getting them through this inning only down two could give their lineup a real opportunity to just grind their way back into this game with the few outs that they have left to the right side. Akuna sends it to first and the Reds go one, two, three. Nothing across here this half. Last half of the eighth coming up. It’s the Reds six and the Mets four. Now pitching four. So a lefty out of the pen. Taylor Rogers. Well, he’s been a bit of a wild card out there in terms of throwing strikes. He’s definitely struggled with free passes this year. Now the left fielder Brandon Nmo for the Mets. Left fielder Brandon NMO. One more time. And the first offering is not close. [Applause] just missed. Last couple of pitches, breaking balls away. I think he’s going to have to come firm inside to be able to open up that location if he wants to go back there later in this count. Check swing called strike. That’s strike one. [Music] And that’s through there for a strike. Two. [Music] That one down the line. And that’s just foul. Still two and two after the foul ball. Let’s go. Headed towards the corner. And a foul ball. Good eye in that spot. Three ball. Got him looking and he didn’t like the call. I guarantee he’s going to check the tape on that last pitch when he gets a chance because he thought he was falling forward and he wasn’t wrong. It was a close pitch. Definitely not an easy call, but especially after a long at bat, that’ll drive you crazy getting rung up like that. Stepping in, Ronnie Mauricio gets the outside corner with that one. Come on. New York way inside and that hit him. Can’t hit him first base. Down move being made for a pitcher, Jeff McNeel. McNeel. And he would be the tying run boo. So we may see him try to launch one if he gets a good pitch to handle [Applause] in the dirt but kept close but no advance. That’s ball one. [Applause] And the sweeper misses. Home played umpires trying to tighten things up a little bit. Check swing and he went two and one now. [Applause] Tying run at the plate. That’s ripped into the outfield. This one could be trouble. Lead runner touches second, headed for third. Mauricio headed for the plate. He’ll score easily. One of the hardest things to do in the game to stay mentally and physically ready for the big opportunity and he came through for his club right there. Here’s the catcher, Luis Torren. And that one clips the corner with a single base runner. Because of all the power, they are dangerous to tie this thing up or take the lead. [Applause] So the tying run at second. Off the mark there. One ball, one strike. One ball, one strike. [Applause] That one missed. [Applause] Tapped at the plate, but it’s a foul ball. Holding on to a one-run lead here in the bottom half of the eighth inning. hacks and misses. It’s a strike out. Now, now the Red’s manager is out of the dugout and will make a move to the pen. Taylor Rogers out of the game and he’s responsible for the runner on second. So, the book isn’t closed on him yet. We’ll be right back. So, they turn to their closer, Emlio Pagan. Well, good luck against this guy. He’s been extremely tough to hit this year. His numbers are excellent. Emilio Tagan Luis Anel Akuna up now for the Mets. And there’s no doubt that they’ll feed off the energy from this crowd, right? I mean, yeah, I’d say the intensity level has gone up a few notches for sure. There’s the strike. 95 of that one. [Applause] Strike two. More and more guys are looking to slug regardless of the count. And this situation will keep a close eye on his approach. [Music] Oh, straighten him up a little bit. McNeel at second with two down. And a swing and a miss. That ends the inning and they limit the damage. He’s in a tough spot. Had to make a great pitch. did it. Got the strike out. Gets out of the jam. Clearly, he’s happy with those results. Now, pitching. We’re back. It’s the top of the ninth and there’s a new pitcher on the mouth, Oscar Brazel. Well, he’s been hit pretty hard at times this season as you see with the big RA. So, this is an important outing for him to get on the right track. Well, one round game. Here’s the third base, Santiago Espino. Espolov. [Applause] [Music] That’s in there. That’s strike one. [Applause] And that skips into dirt. [Applause] Slice down the right side. [Applause] Next pitch is downstairs. Recognize that change up right out of the hand. Just spit on it. Next pitch misses and a full countdown. [Applause] caught looking for the K. Right. Conor Joe. The next to hit for the Reds. [Applause] Up and in. And it’s one and0. Action in the Mets bullpen. Richard Love Lady getting ready to go. Dinski getting cranked up as well. [Applause] Swang and a miss. There’s the change up. Didn’t recognize off speed. Thought it was fast ball a little bit out in front. That one misses. Two and one. One strike. Crowd locked in right now. One-run game here in the ninth. Swing and a miss as he was out front that time. Keeps the advant going with a foul ball. [Applause] drilled out towards left center field. That one back. It’s a bomb. His first homer of the year. It’s 75. That’s their fourth home run of the game. They can’t stop. And they won’t stop hitting home runs in this one. Boo. They’re clearly feeding off of each other at the dish. knew what pitch he wanted to hit. Spent on some other pitches in this at bat. Was very patient and it paid off. Base is empty. One away. And now the center fielder TJ Fredel missed with a change up. Ball one. [Applause] One down. Base is empty. And there’s a ball. Brazaban maybe a little less aggressive on the mound right now after that home run. Chris, yeah, it seems that way. You know, pitchers, they can come out, feel good, but then all of a sudden get touched up a little bit and they start trying to throw instead of pitch. They’re not trusting their stuff. Well, he’s been good for the most part. Is it going to take someone going out to the mound to maybe refocus him a bit? Well, partner, every pitcher is a little different. I I liken it to you. Sometimes you come in and you’re not as focused, and I kind of do what it takes to get you on track, and then you have a great show. Uh, so perhaps it’s the same with him. Nobody really wants their rhythm broken out, but sometimes they need a little pickme up. That clips the zone. Counts full. Three and two. [Applause] and he handles it himself for the out. Now batting second baseman Matt Mlan [Applause] [Applause] And first offering is fouled off. [Applause] Two down. Nobody on. Swing and a miss. And that is strike two. pulls the string with the change up. Struck him out. But the solo shot stretches their lead even further. It’s now 75. back here in Queens. So, bottom of the ninth, here’s the Mets leadoff man, Francisco Lindor. Hey, look, we’ll see how it factors in. I just can’t emphasize how much that insurance run in the top of the ninth means. I mean, just such a big difference mentally when you’re chasing two runs instead of one. [Applause] And that’s off the inside edge. And the count even one and one. [Applause] And that one just missed off the outside edge. [Applause] Lindor swings and blasts one deep left field. Hayes raging back on it holds it in on the warning track. Now batting designated hitter Mark Ventos. So now the DH spot Mark Ventos. [Applause] the bit behind with that swing. It’s strike one. He normally does damage on that pitch in that location just to swing and a miss there. I don’t think he want to throw it again though. [Applause] Here comes the one swinging a foul out of play. [Applause] One and two. I don’t think he was trying to miss by that much in an 02 count. Just tried to overthrow that The Reds up by two. We’re in the last half of the ninth inning. And a foul Bald. He stays alive. [Applause] Next pitch is outside and that’s awfully close. I don’t know how you take that. He’s seeing the ball out of the pitcher’s hand really well right now. And this is inside. [Applause] Eighth pitch of the at bat coming up and that is low for ball four and that’ll bring the tying run to the plate. Pretty good pitch on 32 right around the knees but just no help from the and now Juan Sto one for four with a double and things could change quickly here with one swing. late on that fast ball. Well, strike one is so critical in a bat like this with a real threat at the plate looking to do damage. [Applause] Close but called a ball and the count is one and one. It’s getting squeezed a little bit here late. Squirts away a little bit. One ball, two straight. Well done behind the dish with the tying run at the plate. The home team trying to pull it out. Foul ball still a one and two count. [Applause] Tying run at the plate outside low and the count is two and two. They tried to get him to go chase the pitch down and away but he wouldn’t bite. [Applause] Man at first one away [Applause] and it remains two and two. Let’s [Applause] go back. [Applause] And that’s in the dirt on this count. Runner not known for his speed, but I think you got to put him in motion. Try to avoid a double play here. BS it back with two strikes. [Applause] in there. Got him. Looking for the K. Only one out remaining for the Mets. Well, he’s going to have some thinking to do when he leaves the ballpark after this one. That was his third strike out. And this one looking obviously, so he’s been a little overmatched. He’s got to find a way just to be more competitive up there at the plate. So they’re down to their final out and now Pete Alonzo [Applause] on the outside corner. Strike one. [Applause] Now this one’s crushed down the line. Hooking foul ball. Two-run game with two away here in the bottom of the ninth. [Applause] Pagan is just one strike away and one and two. [Applause] Fights it off. You’ll see another. [Applause] And the one two misses to even the count. [Applause] Got him. And that’s the ball game. Well, this was a total team effort using six pitchers in this ball game to get the win. Outstanding job of passing the baton. The next pitcher stepping up and getting it done. You got to give them a lot of credit cuz this is not easy to do. We’ll see how it affects them over the next couple of days. A 75 final score in this one for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shami saying so long. What the heat?
