Of these Talon Haley is an interesting one. Good metrics all the way around and only fell due to health concerns.
Dude had TJ in middle school, got cancer (non-Hodgkins lymphoma), played while doing chemo, declared cancer free in December of 2022, then had to get TJ again.
Talon is also a top tier pitching name
Sam Tookoian is brutal last pick, 6 ERA is crazy
Will say, good MLB Draft League Performance
Shit with their scouting group, I could had been drafted back in the day with my .300 average in high school and 1 HR. Almost embarrassing

So, they selected a total of 9 High School players. They took 5 in 2024 and only 4 from 2021-23. It’s not a coincidence that they’re starting to go the prep route more often now that their new AZ facility has opened.
Really like the Talon Haley pick. To everyone upset about not selecting Kade Anderson… there you go. Similar age, health concerns, pitchability, and size coming out of High School.
Since there weren’t any true “blue chip” prospects in this class, I don’t think it was the worst idea to take a handful of wild-cards and hope that a couple of them will pan out. The most important thing now is signing the top-5 prep picks, which should be manageable. If they can do that, then I give this Draft a solid B.
No surprises. Pitching has not been good in our farm. Our MLB rotation has been good, but mostly older and mostly pulled from free agency. Our bullpen has been fine as well, but we only have team control over a handful of the good relievers (Detmers, Joyce, Fermin, Burke, Zeferjahn). We did have a big pitcher draft last season, but they’re only filling up the lower levels so far, as they should. Our AAA pitching has been incredibly bad (starters mediocre, bullpen disgusting). AA is a bit better, but still dodgy af, especially the bullpen (again).
For position players, the FO is assuming we should be good at C, 1B, SS, 2B for a while. With Ward hitting FA soon and a hole at CF (with the hope we can shift Adell back to RF), we looked for 3B and OF.
We got tatis
Slate Alford, Alton Davis, and Talon Haley are elite baseball names
Nothing to do with on the field performance but it’s nice to see more African-Americans playing. I think the Angels drafted 7.
Of the players who made opening day rosters, 6.2% were black

14 pitchers, 2 3B, 1 2B (probably low bonus), 1 SS (late), 3 OF.
