MLB LIVE🔴 Miami Marlins vs Kansas City Royals – Jul 18, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
Welcome to Marlins Way, where we find Lone Depot Park, Inner League Baseball on MLB The Show. It’s the Kansas City Royals taking on the Miami Marlins. And now, please welcome your and we’ll be back with the first pitch right after this. Miami Marlin. [Applause] All right, just about set to go. And pitching in this game, Yuri Perez. Base runners are tough to come by with him out there, Chris. Well, he’s been a very dependable starter for his club. And what stands out for me is that left-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 against him. And it just tells me they have a hard time tracking the baseball. Maybe it’s the release point, maybe it’s the motion, but just some way somehow they’ve got to figure out a way to pick it up and try to have some success from the left side. And there’s a foul ball. All right. Swing and a ground ball out to short. Slings to first. One out in the top of the first. And here now the lineup for the Royals. A really frustrating showing for them in their last game. Lots of traffic on the bases, but they left a ton of runners on base. Couldn’t cash in their chances. Chris, they had plenty of chances. is there’s nobody to blame it on but themselves offensively. They just did a poor job converting in those situations. You have to figure out what’s your plan going to be. Maybe watch some tape from the last game. Make the adjustment. So if you get those opportunities in this one, you’ve got a much better chance of scoring some runs. Bobby Wit Jr. stands in now. Looks at that one inside. He swings and fouls one off. Miami. That one misses in the dirt. Back to back breaking pitches away. You get the feeling as a hitter that the pitcher is afraid of you, that he doesn’t want to challenge you. So, I think the confidence level is raised right here. That one misses. And that’s ball three. One out. Base is empty. Fast ball for a strike. Full count [Applause] and down on strikes. Two away. Came inside with that two strike fast ball nicely and just bunched him up on the inside part of the plate. Couldn’t get around on it and catch it out front. Many times if you do, it’s a foul ball. And you know, a lot of pitchers, they really don’t like working inside with two strikes because they do not want to hit that batter. And when they’ve got him up against the ropes, got to figure out a way to put them away. Did a nice job right there. Two outs. Edge of the zone for a strike. And it’s nothing and two. I understand you want to try to gauge that guy’s fast ball, but you also have to be aggressive and ready to hit in your zone. Now you’re in a tough spot. Swang and a ball softly hit out into left center. Lopez makes the catch and that’ll do it. Nothing doing for the Royals and now the Marlins will have a crack at things. No score. Major League Baseball is on the show. Back here in Miami getting the nod in this one. Noah Cameron. Well, this guy’s just been filthy out there on the mound. Hitters, batting under 200 against him, and they’re just having a hard time squaring up anything, doing any type of damage. The only way he hurts himself is if he gives up the free passes and surreners a rare home run. But outside of that, it’s going to be a tough job for the opposing lineup today. Xavier Edwards, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. [Music] And a pinch. And that one fouled off. [Music] Let’s go Xavier. That misses the zone. Two and one. Swings through that one. It’s a strike out. Boo gets talked about a lot, but a good high fast ball in a strike situation, it’s just become such a problem for hitters in more recent years. With all of the emphasis by pitchers on developing that spin rate, having a good grip on the baseball, those high fast balls, they kind of look like to the hitter that they’re rising even though they’re not, but they’re not decreasing in velocity and spin rate. So, very difficult to get the barrel on it. Instead of letting the hitter get his arms extended, tied him up a little bit. Slightly up, slightly in. Strike three. And that’s two in a row. Well, there appears to be no problem settling in on the mound out there today. It looks pretty tough to start this one. Punching out the first two hitters in this ball game. And somebody’s going to have to put the bat on the ball, put it in play, and get something going. Marlins set down in order. Nothing in the Miami first. We played an inning in South Florida. No score on the show. New inning getting started. Down to third base. Mel Garcia singing he’s never finished the season with more stolen bases in his entire career. That one finds the zone. Strike one. Right through there for a strike. Oh, this guy’s so comfortable hitting with two strikes. Even a good pitch early in the at bat. If he’s not ready to pull the trigger, he’s not worried if he gets to an 02 count. The 02. Got him swinging. One out in second. They had him out in front, which isn’t easy to do against a hitter like this, known for using the entire field. Just couldn’t sit back long enough on that one. [Applause] And now it’s Salvador Perez to the plate. I’m liking what I’ve seen from him at the dish lately. Batting over 300 so far this month. That one ripped. Could be extra bases. Makes the turn and heads for second. And it’s a one out double for the first hit of the game. Oh, no. Waiting around right there. He was ready to swing it on the first pitch. Nice job of driving that pitch the other way on the line. And you know, hitters, they take so many reps in the cages working on going to the opposite field and it doesn’t always translate into the game, but right there it did and he did it perfectly. Runner in scoring position now and a good opportunity to push across the first run of the ball game. And to the plate for Kansas City, Jack Kaggle Leone in there at the knees for a strike. [Applause] Runner at second here. One gone. Get out of here, Royals. Next offering is in for a strike. Two really good backto-back sliders now in an 02 count. He’s feeling real confident about finishing this hitter off. He can go anywhere he wants. This to third. Paulie tosses to first. Got the out the left, John Ray. John Rave steps in for the Royals. [Music] And that is out of play. Runner at second. Two down here in the top of the second. Ball. That’s down. This one in the dirt. [Music] Inside. All two. And he takes a strike. Perez stands at second with two gone. That’s down and in. Freddy Fine in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Headed towards the corner and that’s a foul ball. Eighth pitch of the at bat coming up. Man on second, two down. So now two on and two outs. Man, that’s a tough one to take on the full count, but I guess he saw it really well. It’s a really nice play appearance. So up now for Kansas City. Freddy Fine in there for strike one. [Music] [Applause] And there’s the strike to the outside corner. Man, I’m pretty impressed out there on the mound right now. I mean, these are tough spots where pitchers really got to bear out. Those last two pitches were well executed. Next offering way off the plate. [Applause] Two on, two outs. Fights that one away. Still one and two. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. [Applause] Next offering misses. Two balls, two strikes. Two two. First and second, two down. [Applause] And a swing and a miss. That pay is his third of the game. A lot of adrenaline. We can see it right there. And sometimes you just got to let it out. That’s an outstanding job of taking that, executing, and getting out of a tough inning. back here at Lone Depot Park. And now the DH Kyle St. You know, this is kind of a tough matchup as a left-handed hitter facing a left-handed pitcher. And what you tell yourself is I want to stay square to the plate, try to hit the ball over the shortstop’s head. Cameron back to work and that misses ball one. They had a foul ball. Fought off foul. [Music] swings and misses at the pitch off the plate. Fernine down to first. Got him. One away on the strike out. That is it. Not shortstop. Otto Lopez the next to hit. [Applause] That’s a strike and it’s 0 and one. Come on. This one chopped on the ground but foul. Ow. And two now. And that one lifted in the air. Center field. Nabs it. And there are two outs. Batting six, the first baseman, Liam. And now the first baseman, Liam Hicks. That one’s in there. 0 and one. Late swing. Fouled to the left. That missed by a lot. Going to count one and two. Pretty standard high 02 fast ball right there. If you’re smart, you’ll look for something down in the zone, but not too far. Don’t want to chase that breaking ball in the dirt. Two out space is empty. Swinging a ball. Rip right field. That one back. And that one is gone. He flexes his power with that swing and they jump ahead in the second. It’s one- nothing. [Applause] A good hitter gets pitch recognition early. He saw exactly where that was going to be. the challenge, not get over anxious and come out of your swing. He stayed on it and got all of it. [Applause] Here’s the left fielder, Dane Meyers. First offering and it just misses. [Applause] [Applause] Two down. Nobody on. Just missed. [Applause] Fast ball is outside. Well, I would expect in this three-0 count, you’re taking all the way. See if they’ll walk you. And there’s the automatic. Two down, base is empty, but one run across. Bottom half of inning number two. Foul ball [Music] [Applause] [Music] outside and that is ball four. It’s been a little bit of a shaky inning, but he’s still in a good spot to get out of this thing without giving up any more runs. He’s just got to turn the page and go after this next guy at first. Graham Paulie the next up for the Marlins. And that one upstairs. Ball one. [Music] [Applause] Ripped but a curls foul. Missed with a change up. Now two balls in a strike. Meyers leads off first with two down to the inning. [Applause] That one misses. Three and one now. Three balls, one strike. [Applause] And ball four, two aboard. Not what he wanted to do right there, Boo. That keeps this inning alive. puts a runner in the scoring position and a chance for this offense to add on to their lead. First and second, two outs. Forz getting ready to hit. That’s off the inside corner. One and0 on the ground to third. Over to first and that’ll keep more runs from coming in. Inning over. One for the Marlins on the solo shot. It’s an early one- nothing lead. Back after this on the show. And we’re back all set for the start of the unit. And to the plate for Kansas City, Kyle Isbel. Miami. Fast for a strike. Oh, and one [Applause] fouled off. [Applause] 0 and2 now. Fouls it back with two strikes. And that one is inside. [Music] That’s down and in. A slider missed. Good slider down and in can be so hard to get on plane with. You’re better off taking that pitch. That one way inside on the inside corner for called strike three. That was just a beautiful fast ball on the inside corner for that backwards K right there. I think the hitter saw it all the way coming from that opposite arm angle. So I got to think he was looking away and just got locked up by the hard stuff boring in on his hands. India takes the ball as he stands in for the second time. And he grounds one back up the middle and it finds its way through for a hit. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. Everything came together for him. Let that pitch get pretty deep on him. So, I think he was looking to go the other way. It was off speed and inside though, so a good adjustment to shoot it back up the middle. Runner on at first with one gone. Now here’s Bobby Whit Jr. 0 for one. He struck out swinging last time over to first and he’s saved. I think you want to get a one-way lead. Be very aggressive in the secondary. This hitter not a power guy. So you want to make sure that you can get some runner takes off. Swinging a miss in there safely. One out and a runner at second. Next offering in there for a stra and the count is 0 and two. [Applause] Stays alive. And that skips into there. That’s right. [Music] Just misses. And it’s two and two. Really good take especially with two strikes. That one the other way and it’s caught for the out. And next up for the Royals, Vinnie Pasquantino. 0 for one with a fly out. Line drive and foul ball. just missed. Wow. Triple digits on the gun. I know there are more pitchers that can reach that now than in the past, but it’s still impressive to watch. Next pitch is outside. [Music] Swanging a miss as he was out front that time. Man at second left field. Meyers puts it away and that’s the third out. So one left for Kansas City. Still behind by a count of one to nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. And now it’s going to be Xavier Edwards taking high in the draft. He’s had that top prospect label over him since he put on a professional uniform. But at some point that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level. That’s off the mark. And that’s ball one. Ball one, no strikes. [Music] The one-1 is fouled off. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. struck him out looking. Oh, that curve ball had some pretty good break to it. As you can see, the hitter just knocked up a little bit. Thought it was a great pitch to hit, but sometimes you’re looking for something else and you can’t pull the trigger. Sanchez now at the plate as he swings through strike one. That clips the corner. Blind into right. Kaggleó makes the play and there’s two away. Now batting center fielder Augustine. Two down. Base is empty. And now the center fielder Augustine Ramirez grounded out his first time. Ramirez 23 years old and he was born in the Dominican Republic. The next offering misses and now it’s even one and one. on the ground right side India to first and it’s a one two3 inning and the Marlins down quietly they lead it one- nothing back here in Miami as we go to the top of the fourth and now it’ll be the cleanup spot for the Royals Mike El Garcia Yeah, the first offering a fast ball for a strike. Oh, he’s looking great so far. It helps when over 80% of your first pitches are strikes. He might be able to go the distance if he keeps this up. Swayed a miss at a slider. And that is downstairs now. One and two. swing and a miss and he’s down on strikes. He picks up his fifth strike out on the hill. Well, that’s the money maker right there. Two strikes, slider down and away from a same side thrower as the hitter. I mean, that’s just tough. You’re looking to protect with two strikes and very difficult to lay off. Next to hit, Salvador Perez doubled his first time at 96. That pitch is in for a strike. [Music] Fast ball for a strike. Swing and a miss. 98 mph on the gun. Just blown away in that at bat. Three fast balls. all strikes. Wasn’t even able to foul one off. There’s not much you can take away from an at bat like that as a hitter other than maybe there’s something wrong with your eyes. Got to have better timing on the fast ball next time. [Applause] Kagg Leó batting for the second time and that’s strike one. [Music] Swing and a miss as he was late. Gosh, a little late on that breaking ball. I don’t think he recognized it out of the hand. And just a little tardy. Going to have to regroup here. Fouls that off to the left and will do it again. And now one and two. Almost got him. Two strikes. spoils that one and it remains two and two. Gets a piece and stays alive. Here’s a two- two. goes down looking for the strike out and he strikes out the side here in the fourth. Royals bats are quiet there and it remains one- nothing. Bottom of the fourth. Stepping in Kyle Stardeated hitter Kyle. Sters. Closed but called a ball. Ball one. You know these Marlins doing a great job, Boo, of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way. And I’m seeing very patient at bats out of him. He’s only giving up one run, but the starter pitch count is starting to get up there. And that might be the best news yet. Batter number six, shortstop, Otto. Here’s the shortstop at the plate. Otto Lopez fly to center his first time. You know, sometimes all it takes is getting to the next arm before an offense does any damage. And that might be the case today. And that’s downstairs. And it’s one and0. Swing and a ball popped up past Quintino. puts it away for the out and there are two down. That was a good pitch to hit right down the heart of the plate. Had pretty good timing on it. Just got underneath it a little bit and popped it up. Two outs. Base is empty. And here’s the first baseman, Liam Hicks. He’s already homered here in this one. And first off is fouled off. just missed. Next offer in there for a strike and it’s one and two. So the ball really well today. That two seam fast ball has got good run on it. Excellent job of moving it around the plate. The one two. Good eye right there. [Applause] [Music] Still two and two after the foul ball. Two down, nobody on. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. And that’s off the inside edge. And the count’s full. keeps the atbat going with a foul ball. Good played appearance there. Able to take the walk. It wasn’t easy, but he earned that walk after a long at bat. Two out walks are never good, especially when you’re trying to get back into that dugout. But he’s still in a good spot. He’s just got to refocus and deal with the bottom of this order. Come on, you can do it. Meyers stands in now and watches strike one. Hicks off of first with two away and downstairs. That one outside. And that’s ball two. swing and a ball hit out towards left center field. Ray makes the grab and that’ll do it. No runs, no base hits, no errors and one man left. Onto the top of the fifth we go. It’s the Marlins one and the Royals nothing. Back here in Lone Depot Park, top five, John Shabi with Chris Singleton. And leading it off, John Rae, [Music] we Paris back to work. back up the middle in a base hit. So, a man on base to start the inning. Well, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. Here’s the catcher to hit. Freddy Fine struck out swinging his first time. [Applause] That one’s upstairs. Ball one. late on that fast ball. Signs of activity in the pen for the Marlins. Calantrol getting ready to go. Number 66, a left-hander also throwing. [Applause] Swinging a miss. That is strike two. Two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. In the air, center field. Ramirez gets there. He’s under it. Hauls it in. One away. And now it’s Kyle Isbel. He was a strikeout victim his first time. Definitely wants to stay out of the double play here. Ball on the ground in the infield. Should be an inning ending double play. And that’s outside. [Applause] Move to first and he dives back in safely. fouled off. He was late. [Applause] The one-1 right through there for a strike. Really going after him here. All fast balls to get ahead in the count. And that’s downed away. Tying run is at first and we’re in the top of the fifth. [Applause] The other way down the line and it’s foul. [Applause] Got him. and he’s up to eight strikeouts in this one. Typically that high fast ball if it’s close to the top of the strike zone a hitter if he’s prepared for it can get to it. But that one just had that little jump at the end which indicates there’s a good spin rate on it and it didn’t decrease in velocity as that hitter’s internal clock would expect it to and that’s why you see the swing and miss. Jonathan Indie at the plate in the air right side. Sanchez makes the grab and that is that. Royals leave one. They’re down one- nothing. And we’re back. We head to the bottom of the fifth. Here’s the third baseman Paulie. Polly and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Strike two. Thought he just threw that fast ball by him. Elevated. And if you’re not looking up in that location, very difficult to catch up to, especially with that velocity. Foul ball still 0 and two. rolled over to third, slings it across, and the leadoff hitter retired in the fifth. Good armside run and sink on that pitch right there. Got inside on him and got him to bounce into that out and now the catcher comes up to him. Nick Forz for one. He ground it out in his first at bat. Let’s go Miami. up the middle with gets it to first. Old man for the fifth inning moving along. Two quick outs. We talked about how the ball is coming out of a pitcher’s hand. The way it comes out of his hand as an infielder. Wow. Really impressive. So, the lineup flips over. Here’s the second baseman, Xavier Edwards. Hit on the ground to the right side. Go the flip to the pitcher covering. Three up, three down. Inning over. Nothing doing for the offense that time. We’re through five. It’s the Marlins one and the Royals nothing. On the mound now, Calantrol. He doesn’t get a lot of strikeouts compared to other relievers, so he relies on getting that soft contact and the defense doing work behind him. have to be in their toes with him on the bump. So digging in Bobby Whit Jr. for two in this one. [Applause] Swing and a ball driven pretty well out towards left center. Makes the catch. One down. The first base number nine. And now the first baseman, Minnie Pasquantino, [Applause] just missed Miamiy’s bullpen with some action. Kade Gibson appears to be getting ready and I’m sure he’s feeling some nerves. This would be his major league debut. Foscher warming up as well. Next pitch misses and the count now two and nothing on the ground right side. Hicks throws to first in time. That’s the second out. He looked a little tentative on that swing. Almost like he didn’t get pitch recognition and tried to slow his bat down just to make contact. I’d rather see a guy swing through it instead of making weak contact and putting it in play. Have another pitch where maybe he can drive out of the ballpark. Garcia up for the third time here. Watches that one miss. And that’s downstairs and outside. Struggled a little bit in this one. Couple of strikeouts earlier, but doing a much better job in this at bat to get ahead and find a good hitter count at 2 and 0. And now two balls in a strike. That split is a pretty nasty pitch. Explodes out of the hand. Looks like a fast ball and the bottom just falls out of it. It’s softly on the ground left side. And that’s just foul. Two outs. Got him swinging. Nothing doing here this half. 234 do up in the home half of the six. It’s the Marlins one and the Royals nothing. ready to go for the last half of the unit. And now Jesus Sanchez. Sanchez. That one catches the corner for a strike. Probably the best one we have seen. Throwing it where he wanted to have a nice tight spin to it and a teaser just off the edge of the plate. Swang and a miss. Oh, two. One ball, two strike. I don’t think he was trying to miss by that much in an 02 count. Just tried to overthrow that pitch. Fouled off and they’ll do it again. Foul ball still a one and two count and they’ll do it again. And now two and two. Knocks that one away. And we’ll do it again. Oh, he’s desperately looking for that swing and miss. He’s going to have to just change speeds a little bit. Try to move it around. Create just a little bit of illusion at the end. twins and misses. It’s a strikeout. Throws to first. That was a strong at bat even though he couldn’t fight away on base. Augustine. Augustine Ramirez digs in now. Ramirez having a really nice first season in the big leagues. Definitely a rookie of the year candidate. There’s the strike. He’s been very consistent with his command out there on the mound. Consistently throwing at the knees. Pretty impressive when a guy can repeat his delivery like this. Here’s a high chopper. Whit throws the first in time. Up next for the Marlins, the designated hitter, Kyle Kyle Sters will hit next. Sters, 27 years old and he’s usually in the outfield today. He’s the DH. Swing and a ball popped in the air and that’ll fall for a base hit and they had their first hit since the second inning. A late jump and I think that was the difference on the play. Boo. It’s not always easy seeing the ball off the bat. Shortstop Otto. And the batter will be the shortstop Otto Lopez. [Applause] Check swing, but he went too far. And that is strike one. Sters off of first with two away. Miami. Bounce to third. tosses to first. Inning over. Marlins leave one, but they hold a one- nothing lead. Now, pitching forward. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound, Kane Gibson. Should be a good first match up for him here. He’s been doing a great job against right-handed bats so far this season. They’ve had a lot of trouble squaring him up. Leading off, Salvador Perez. The designated hitter, Salvador Perez. And that one fouled off. Looking to get the tying run on base. Swing and a ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. Always feels amazing getting a job done when the team needs you to come through. It’s just bigger than your own individual stats. Just kept it simple. Played pepper with the middle of the infield and took it back where it came from. And there’s just no one there to knock it down. So up now for Kansas City, Jack Kaggle Leone. [Applause] That one hammered but pulled fouled. Trying to hold a one-run lead here in the top half of inning number seven. [Applause] Ripped into center base hit. Throw back in quickly. First and second now with nobody out. Back to back base hits. Everything was on time and fluid in that swing. Got a pitch he could get the barrel on and lined it into center for the knock. Those always feel good. Now that sets up a huge at bat in this ball game. John Ray steps in for the Royals. A walk and he’s also single. Swing and a highfly ball out towards right field. brings it in. Runner tags at second. Cut off. Throw to third. Not in time. The tying run stands at third with one out. And a fly ball could knock this one off. Freddy. Next is the Royals catcher. Freddy Fine. Got the dish looking to lift the ball in the air in this spot. Anything but the inning inning double play boot. First pitch and that’s in for a strike. But I think ultimately you want to tie him up, get the ball in on the plate so that he can’t get the barrel to it and hit it to the outfield. Puts a bunt down. Edwards slings to first in time. Oh, the safety squeeze can be tough to defend, especially with a good runner at third. You can’t risk trying to be overly aggressive and make a play at the plate and give up that easy out at first. So up next, Kyle Isbel, who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. A little surprised we don’t see a pinch hitter here, but the lefty lefty matchup and fouled off. Two down. Go ahead run in scoring position. [Applause] in the air pretty deep out to center field. Ramirez settles under this one. He’s got it. And that’s the third out. One run, a pair of hits, no errors, and one left on. Midway in inning number seven. And it’s time to stretch. All tied 1-1. We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. Lucas Ers. Well, he’s been excellent against left-handed hitters this year. And that’s his first test. This looks like a good move to the pin in terms of the matchup. And at the plate for Miami, Liam Hicks, he’s already homered in this game. That misses the zone. Ball one. Activity in the bullpen. John Shriber up and throwing. Clark also throwing. [Applause] [Applause] Just missed. [Applause] Pitch in the dirt. Three balls, no strikes. So definitely a little wild right out of the gate. Well, it could be a little tough coming from the bullpin mound to this mound, but you’ve got to find a way to get ahead in the count quickly. He hasn’t. We’ll see how this at bat turns out. Next offering is in for a strike. Sliced hard but fouled. [Music] It’s a lead off walk and that’s the go-ahehead run. Second walk of the game for him and he’s been really patient at the play. A game plan that he’s sticking to. He’s just not going outside of what he’s looking for up there. Dane Meyers the next up for the Marlins. He’s 0 for one [Applause] and the first pitch misses for ball one. [Applause] And another ball. Homeplayed umpires trying to tighten things up a little bit. [Applause] And that one fouled off [Applause] just off the inside edge on this count. Runner not known for his speed, but I think you got to put him in motion. Try to avoid a double play here, boo. [Applause] And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. The go-ahead run aboard at first. Nobody out. [Applause] [Applause] got him looking and he didn’t like the call. Well, big strike out right there and maybe a little controversial with the call and I think he got a little bit of favor on the mound. No question about it. It’s not exactly what you want to see in a big spot like that and I’m sure there’s some chirping going on from the dugout making it clear that wasn’t his best call behind the plate today. So digging in, Graham Paulie [Applause] delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. One away, tie game. Go ahead run stands at first. Swinging a foul out of play. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] and ball one. One ball, two strikes to count. [Applause] And a ball evens a count. Way to lay off that pitch down. Two strikes. Foul ball. Another 2-2 upcoming. [Applause] That’s foul off to the right side. Keeps the AB going. [Applause] Got him. That’s out number two. Nick Forez, the next up for the Marlins, has grounded out a couple of times. That one’s in there. That’s strike one. [Applause] And there’s a ball. Was good pitch there. really had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, he had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. Hey, you got two outs. That one missed. [Applause] Fans another and that’s three straight strikeouts. One left for Miami. Still tied 1-1. Welcome back and a new arm on the mound to start the eighth. Calvin Foch and he has some nasty breaking stuff. Number 53, Calvin Fosch. [Applause] So digging in, Jonathan India one for three. Jonathan India. Strike one. Signs of activity in the pen for the Marlins. Ronnie Enriquez. The closer is getting loose. [Applause] That’s in there. No balls, two strikes. Got to be careful here. This is the type of hitter that can punish you even with pitches outside the zone. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. [Applause] just misses there. Man, oh man. I don’t know how you take that pitch. That’s as close as it gets. And just misses with that one. He’s really tightening up his hitting zone with two strikes here. I love it. [Applause] swings through it and that’s a strike out. Boi just ran out of patience there. He took a couple of pitches to even that count off at two balls and two strikes, but that time chased outside the zone. Bobby Wit Jr. steps in for the Royals. swings and lines a base hit into left field. So the go-ahehead run is on base with a knock. Waste no time there. Solid swing from start to end on time with everything. Really good balance. Nice extension and he made it out front for the line drive knock. And now let’s see if they force some action with good wheels on the bases. Now here is Vinnie Pasquantino. [Applause] Ball one there. One away. Tie game. Go ahead run stands at first. Runner on the go. pitch in for a strike. Throw to second and he’s safe. And the go-ahead run is now in scoring position. Singi, he definitely showed off the wheels there. Yeah, and it turned out to be a bang bang play. Statcast gives us the data and that stolen base wasn’t possible without that sprint speed. [Applause] Chopper right side steps off first for the owl. Up next for the Royals, the third baseman Mikel Garcia. Now a chance for Mikel Garcia. Three strikeouts already. He’s 0 for three. [Applause] inside corner and that’s called a strike. Getting a little frustrated with the strike zone [Music] [Applause] and that is out of play. Well, if he’s going to do something special right here, it’s going to have to happen with two strikes. [Applause] Check swing. Now we look down to first one around. Not an easy call there, but that puts an end to the inning. So, one left for Kansas City. Score remains tied 1-1. Now, pitching for back now. New pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth. John Shriber. And he’s been racking up strikeouts at a high rate this year. Typically at least one in innings, so he’ll be tough to get to. And here is Xavier. 0 for three with two strikeouts and a ground out. Edwards. [Applause] Trying to bunt his way on. Bare hand grab the throw on the money. Nice play. You know, I think bare-handed grabs might be one of the best looking plays in baseball. It takes tremendous body control to bend down there, pick it up, and then get into a position to make a quick, accurate throw to first. It all happens in the blink of an eye. It’s like a magic trick, but there’s a lot that goes into it. And now for the Marlins, Jesus Sanchez 0 for three in this one. Looked like it was a little bit up. All tied up here. The bottom half of the eighth inning. [Applause] to the right side. Pasquantino takes it to the bag, steps on first and it’s out number two. Oh, there’s a lot riding on that at bat right there. Nice job of the pitcher to bear down, make the pitch, get the ground ball. Excellent piece of work at the plate. Augustine Ramirez. Three ground outs already. He’s 0 for three. Swing and a miss. Strike one. Activity in the Kansas City bullpen. Michael Lorenzan preparing to come on if needed. That one outside. And it’s one and one [Applause] inside. Just missed [Applause] inside. Just doesn’t seem to want to throw him a fast ball. Kyle Sters in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Fouls one away and now three and two. Now a high-fly ball out to left center and puts the squeeze on that one and that will end the inning. It’s the ninth and we are tied. Now pitching forward. Welcome back. And here comes the closer Ronnie Enriquez. Big swing and miss stuff right here. Boo. averaging more than one strikeout per inning this season. So far, he’s been pretty electric. So, here’s the Royals DH Salvador Perez. Salvador Perez. And that drops in for a strike. There it was. Oh, here it is. Hit it. He gets a take. Gets ahead in a count. swing and a miss as he was out front. Well, you got the hitter already chasing that nasty slider. If you’re on the mound, you just want to expand the zone right now. Get a swing and miss and get through this at bat. [Applause] Swing and a miss. Struck him out and a strike out for the first out here in the ninth. Just indecisive in that at bat. He couldn’t commit to the slider. tried to sit in between, just not able to put the bat on the ball. [Applause] So, up next, Jack Kaggle Leone. [Applause] First pitch doesn’t find the zone. Base is empty, one away. You’re in the top of the ninth. A little bit high and that’s ball two. Action in the pen down there. A lefty up and throwing out there. [Applause] Just off the inside edge. John Ra in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Let’s see if he gives him anything to hit here. Ball four. He walked him and that’ll keep the line moving. He did not take the bat off his shoulder the entire at bat. Making a move at first on a pinch run number two. Go ahead run on base. And to the play for Kansas City, John Ray. [Applause] Ruer takes off. Pitch misses. The throw tag and he’s out. Such a quick and fast swing of emotions right there. You get the runner on with the walk, which is great, but then picks a bad pitch to go on and you just erase the free pass that you were issued. I understand you want to be aggressive. You want to try to get in the scoring position, but you just have to be a little smarter there. [Applause] The next pitch misses and it’s two in one. Yeah, two balls, one strike. [Music] Swings through that one out in front that time. Two balls, two strikes. on the ground to third. Zips it across and that is that. Nothing doing for the Royals. Score remains deadlocked at one. [Applause] Back now as they hand the ball to a fresh arm to start the bottom of the ninth. Taylor Clark. This guy’s a strikethrower. He’s done an excellent job of awarding walks so far this season. Taylor Clark. Now it’s the D Kyle Stard, the designated hitter, Kyle Stard. That one’s in there. That’s strike one. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Carlos Estz, the closer of the staff, is throwing. [Applause] on the ground right side. He takes it on his own and they get the leadoff man in the ninth. The batter number six, shortstop Otto. And up next for Miami, Otto Lopez [Applause] outside [Applause] hard hit right side in plenty of time to first And a couple of quick outs had four pitches, two outs. That is an excellent base. And now here is Liam Hicks outfield playing pretty shallow. [Applause] There’s the strike. Back door him with a breaking ball. Just got the corner. There’s nothing you can really do with that. Next one misses and the count is one and one. One ball, one strike. [Applause] The one-1 is fouled off. Might want to start that load a little bit sooner because of the good VLOO. Trying to send this extra innings that misses the zone. Two and two. [Applause] Good job to fight that one off. [Applause] Two-2 now. Uh-oh. That got him. And a potential winning run is aboard now. Battyers now at the plate. Meers. And that one a little below the knees. One and0. Two outs, but the winning run is at first. Pitch misses. Two and0. And another ball. Graham Paulie in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. There’s the strike and it’s three and one. [Music] [Applause] Two outs. That’s in there. 3-2. Two out. Runner on first. Lot of movement in the infield. Hitters got to stay focused on the pitch. Swinging a foul ball at the plate. They’ll do it again with the winning run on it first. We’re in the last half of the ninth inning. Ball four. He walked in and that keeps things going. Now batter. First and second, two outs. And at the place for Miami, Graham Paulie [Applause] and he takes one right on the black. One 01’s the count. and downstairs. Winning run stands at second. [Applause] Swings and misses. And the count one and two. Two strike. Now that’s smacked to right center and that will end the inning. [Music] And welcome back to the ballpark. And here’s the catcher, Freddy Fine. [Applause] Enriquez back to work. Basketball is outside. Check swing. No appeal. Nice job to keep the hands back on that one. Out in front just a little bit. Ripped on the ground is second. Tosses to first. And here in the 10th, the leadoff man is out. Not a bad outcome in that spot. The runner moves up to third and now they have a chance to drive in the go-ahead run. It’s not a hit, but at the end of the day, it’s a good bat, especially when you’re playing extra innings. So digging in, Kyle Isbel, a pair of strikeouts, and he’s flyed to center. And action in there for strike one. Definitely a strikeout situation right here. Lots of ways for that go-ahead run to score if the ball’s put in play. With the go ahead run at third here in extra innings. [Applause] I got a ball. One strike. [Applause] And now the runner breaks for the plate. Pitch in the dirt. Out at the plate. He’s out trying to steal home. Bows it off. Still one and two. Two down. Nobody on. And here in extra innings. Next pitch is outside. Inside just missed. Jonathan India in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here outside and that is ball four. Exactly what they needed him to deliver there. A quality at bat. Now the pressure’s on to find a way to get him home. India. So up next, Jonathan India. [Applause] First pitch misses. [Applause] Yeah, that’s fouled off. [Applause] Now move to first. Isel back on a dive. Two gone. The possible go ahead run at first. Next pitch a slider that misses outside. [Applause] outside with a breaking ball. Pretty easy to give up on that pitch right there. Started on the edge of the plate with the spin. You know it’s going to finish well off the plate. [Music] [Applause] That one to first. And that one finds its way through. And now first and second with two outs. Showed some really nice patience in that at bat. Worked himself into a good count. Just a simple ground ball the other way that had eyes on it. Man, sometimes that’s all you need to do. Just let the ball travel, put the ball in play, and just hope it finds a hole. And a huge opportunity now to grab the lead at this point in the game. Digging in, Bobby Wit Jr. gets the call. Four and one. 0 and one. [Applause] [Applause] That delivers outside. swing at a high-fly ball right field and that’s the third out. No runs, a hit, two left onto the bottom of inning number 10. All tied 1-1. [Applause] Now pitching for back here at extras and a new pitcher on the mound in the bottom half of the inning. Michael Lorenzan. Well, he’s struggled quite a bit. So, this is another opportunity to get on the right track. He’s given up more than one hit per inning pitch so far this season. Here’s the catcher, Nick Forez. 0 for three with two ground outs and a strikeout. [Applause] And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. That was just paint on the first pitch fast. Hard on the ground to first. He’ll do it himself and they get the lead off man in the 10. Now batting the second baseman, Xavier Edwards. Now it’s the second baseman, Xavier Edwards. 0 for four. Two strikeouts and two ground outs. Right through there for a strike. Now just a cement mixer slider right there. It’s a great pitch to hit if you can recognize it early and jump on it. [Music] in the air to left center. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. Two down now. batting right fielder Jesus Sanchez down the number two hitter Jesus Sanchez oh how he’d love to walk it off right here [Applause] swings and misses and that’s strike one’s the count [Applause] that’s through there for a strike he’s falling from behind in a huge spot. Boo. Got to do what it takes to come through. Maybe choke up on the bat a little bit, spread out those feet, whatever it takes. That one off the bad part of the bat. Just a lazy fly ball. Makes the grab. And that is the third out of the inning. So, it’s no runs, no hits, no errors, and one left on base. On to inning number 11 we go. All tied 1-1. Now pitching back. Now we’re in extras and there’s a new arm on the mound. Number 66. This softball has been really good against left-handed hitters. Vinnie Pascantino getting ready to hit. Man at second, nobody out. And Chris certainly one of the things in his head is trying to get the runner over. Yeah. The way that we see the game played today though, guys are not sacrificing as much just to get that runner across. They’re really looking at doing damage. Slugging is the name of the game. Yeah, I think part of that goes into it’s just so hard to come up with hits. In today’s game, starters don’t go deep and so hitters are seeing multiple pitchers every night and that makes it more challenging just to come up with a single. Comes up empty as he chases that one in the dirt. beats him for the first out and that completes the strike out. So, a wild pitch allows the runner to advance. Well, it’s good job of completing the strikeout at first base, but the one downside is it did allow that runner from second to move up to third and that’s with one out. They’ve got more ways now to get him home and that makes it another strikeout situation coming up. Little chopper rolls foul. [Applause] in the infield at the corners. Don’t be surprised to see them come home first and prevent that run from scoring. That one back up the middle and it gets through. Wit scores. It’s an RBI single and they’ve got the lead in extra innings. That bat had a lot riding on it. Certainly a pivotal swing in the bat in this ball game. Timing on the swing was good. Able to shoot the ball up the middle. Didn’t square it up as much as he probably would have liked, but that’s a good approach paying off. One down. Runner at first. Salvador Perez digs in. Runner on the move. Ball outside. Throws save. Pickoff moved to second. Garcia back in on a dive. Garcia over at second. One down. [Applause] In the air, left field. Meyers sizes this one up, hauls it in for the Owl, and there’s two away. The right fielder number two, Tyler Tolberg. Here’s the rookie right fielder. Came into the game as a pinch runner. This is his first trip to the plate in this one. [Applause] slice to right and that’s a fair ball headed for the plate. He’ll score easily and it’s an RBI single and it’s a two-run lead in extra innings. Puts a run on the board and picks up an RBI. He really shot that one down the right field line and somehow found a way to keep it from slicing a foul. One thing that was great about the approach, his head was down all the way through the pitch and that’s how you do it. Now, the Marlins manager out of the dugout and he’ll make a move to the pen. Number 66 done for the night. Two-run ball game as he heads for the dugout and we’ll be back with a new pitcher. Anthony Bender takes over on the mound. Well, good luck against this guy. He’s been extremely tough to hit this year. His numbers are excellent. Two outs, runner at first. Now the left fielder, John Rae. Bender picks the first. No, he’s in there. [Applause] Here goes the runner pitching for a strike. Safe at second with a stolen base. [Music] Two outs and one in scoring position. [Applause] Pitch misses inside and a count even one and one. [Applause] Swing and a miss and he was fooled. You tie a guy up like that, you’re feeling like you are in command. [Applause] Now a blooper back behind Short. He’s got it and that is out number three. So it’s two runs on two hits, no errors and a runner left. Last shot here as we go to the bottom of the 11th. It’s the Royals three and the Marlins won. We’re back and on the mound is the closer Carlos Estz. Oh, he’s the guy they hope to turn to out of the pin to lock down. Now at the plate, Augustine Ramirez, 0 for four with three ground outs and a fly out. [Applause] And that’s way high. And that’s ball one. Hitter’s got some good opposite field power. What I like about something being hit to the right side into the outfield is that the base runner at second has a very good read and can determine whether or not he can score on that base hit. Next offering is in for a strike [Applause] and that one fouled off. [Applause] [Applause] tying run at the plate. Fights that one away. Still one and two. [Applause] Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Slider got him for strike three. Well, the first batter It’s always a big one for the closer. You get that punch out, you get settled in, you feel like you’re in command out there on the mound from the jump and kind of prevents any doubt from creeping into your mind or the fielders that are playing behind you that you know you’re going to wrap this thing up. Stard the next to hit takes high for ball one with the tying run at the plate there. The home team trying to pull it out. fought off foul all season long. He’s racked up a number of saves and sometimes the adrenaline doesn’t get high enough until there’s a runner or two on base. Just about gives his skipper a heart attack, but that’s where he functions best. The tying run at the plate missed with a change up and the count is three and one. [Applause] and that one fouled off. [Music] Banned second. Swing and a miss. He struck him out and the Marlins with just one out left. No batter. You see it? Well, I mean, that was clearly up and out of the strike zone, but that’s one of the hardest things. And when you see a pitch out of the hand at eye level, that discipline to remember, I can’t hit that pitch. If I can see it really well at eye level, I can’t catch up to that pitch when a pitcher’s got this kind of velocity. And now, Otto Lopez. Squirts [Applause] away a little bit. Well done behind the dish. Check swing. He went too far and it’s a strike. Two balls, one strike. [Applause] A little out front there as he swings through it. Runner at second. Two down and we’re in the bottom of the 11th. And that’s in the dirt. Big pitch coming right here. Last thing he wants to do is put the tying run on base, but he can’t group one either. The fish down to their final strike and a swing and a miss. And that is the ball game. Well, I love the fact they didn’t quit. They had to do a little extra work tonight to secure this win, but it’s what you got to do over the course of a season if you want to be a championship ball club. And your final 3-1 for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shambi. Thanks for joining us.
