BIG Trade Coming? Blue Jays REALISTIC Trade Targets! (Blue Jays Updates)

Hello everybody and welcome back to Blue Jays today. We’re your boys. We always got something to say about the Toronto Blue Jays. I’m your host Adam Pedal and I’m your host Nicholas Play. We are now at the end of the Allstar break and we are in full trade deadline season. The Toronto Blue Jays trade reports are starting to fly, folks. We got a couple in here that I think you are going to be very interested in. Before we get into it, please make sure to hit that like, smash the subscribe button, and of course, let us know your thoughts down below. Now, I want to start this whole thing off by just setting the stage. And the stage is the Toronto Blue Jays are one, good at baseball, better than everyone would have expected. Let’s go. And two, according to Buster only, they will be entering this trade deadline very aggressively. Toronto could be one of the most aggressive teams at the trade deadline. And I think that makes a lot of sense because whilst they have been very very good, there are obviously still holes on this roster. Yeah. Like we’re not going to talk, well actually we are going to talk about in this video. Uh the starting pitcher, you know, we do need one of those. The bullpen help, it’s been good. Uh but we definitely want to lock down a few more guys, especially with how many injuries we’ve been having so far. The offense, it’s not a huge concern. If we had to miss out on one area, it would be the offense just because of how good they all have been clicking. But the big thing here is you got to go all in and get the starting pitching help to support how good that offense has been. Now only in here talks about how possibly the Blue Jays could be locked in on a bullpen help and they could be very aggressive in that area and that they might look at the Minnesota Twins and they might look at the Cleveland Guardians to go get that help. Now some other executives out there have been saying that, you know, the Guardians don’t really want to trade Emanuel Claus or Kate Smith. Totally get that. You know, you want to keep your dudes and they’re going to be there for a while. But that doesn’t stop them from trading away some other guys on that list as well, Nick. Yeah, I mean 100%. You know that Cleveland and Minnesota too, actually, but Cleveland especially, like they’re kind of a pitching factory over there. Uh like they just breed great pitchers. They develop them better than anybody. And they have a long list of individuals over there that could be really solid. Alan Perkins from TSN came out and brought up this name right here, Hunter Gatis. Now, both Adam and I weren’t super familiar with Hunter Gatis prior to this article being released, but considering the Toronto Blue Jays are one looking to be very aggressive, and considering an executive believes that they are going to be tied with the Cleveland Guardians, Hunter Gatis could make a ton of sense for Toronto. Yeah, it’s not the splashy move that everyone’s looking at like the Claws, like the Johan Durant. I totally get it. But this actually sounds like a Ross Atkins move this season so far. You know, Gatis has been just fine. He’s he’s got a.3 war. You know, the typical middle relief pitcher with a 3.69 array whip of 1.385. Not the greatest, but the good thing about Gatis and why it’s a typical Rosett move is the fact that he’s got a ton of control. He’s a free agent till 2030. He’s 27 years old. And what’s kind of exciting for me is that he actually has proven that he can do it in the past. He’s got an RA last year in the 1.57 range. It is 1.57 year with a whip of 0.76. That wasn’t just two innings, three innings. That was 74 innings last year. So, he can do it. He doesn’t have like over electrifying stuff like a fast ball velocity sits at 95. You know, he’s got a change up. He’s got a slider. You know, nothing’s really overpowering other than maybe that slider’s got some good breaking ball value to it. But, you know, this is a dude that you can control and kind of have in the bullpen for as long as he’s good, right? Yeah, 100%. I mean, and the guy’s 272 and we know that bullpen arms can be volatile, right? Like one of the guys that we are seriously relying on this year is Jimmy Garcia. There’s been years where Jimmy Garcia has not been that good and there’s been times where he is like looking like the best closer in all of baseball. Hunter Gatis, I think, would fit into that same kind of tier or area, right? This season might not be his best stuff, but Pete Walker, hey, you want to fix that dude, put him in there. he would fit in beautifully. This would be a uh a middle of a or a kind of, you know, high leverage to mid innings bullpen arm for the Toronto Blue Jays this season. And you look over at that pen right now, there’s a lot of eras to like there’s a lot of guys who have instilled me with confidence, who I didn’t expect to instill me with confidence, but eventually they are going to start to get fatigued. We saw that we were kind of I I don’t want to say like limping into the All-Star break, but it felt like we were a series or two series away from, oh this is a bit of a problem because those guys were getting overworked. You had Chris Basset come out of the pack. Literally like Chris Basset was coming into relief, right? Like this is the middle of the season. So, it’s clear that this is going to become a problem sooner rather than later. Going out and getting somebody like Hunter Gatis who could throw 74 innings out of the pen. He proved it last year. That would be huge for us. Yeah. Guys, let us know as well any other kind of relief pitchers that you want us to talk about on this uh podcast because there’s a ton out there like Honduratis, I bet, that have got control that have pretty good upside. So, let us know down there who we should talk about next. Hey guys, time for a quick shout out to the sponsor of this video. Hit your picks and knock it out of the park with Between. Now, back to the content. Moving over to the starting pitching side of things. There’s one guy that actually happened during that athletic series that really showed up not on the Blue Jays, but on the athletics that was screaming. It felt like it when you were seeing his pitch velocities, screaming, “Please trade me.” Just in his performance. And that is Louis Severino. Now, it’s not the only way he’s screaming to say trade me. He actually is very disgruntled with the fact that he is playing in Sacramento. Even though you did sign there, I guess you didn’t know how bad the conditions would actually be. He’s been begging for a trade because of the no AC because the clubhouse is over in left field and right field. He’s been wanting to get out of Sacramento and apparently the Athletics can’t wait to trade him either. This is according to Bob Nightingale. So, it almost feels like inevitable that he is going to get traded. Now, which team should pick him up? Well, here comes the Toronto Blue Jays. What I what I say about the other guy, right? Like Hunter Gatis, controllable, and that’s what they need. Uh somebody that has shown in the past that he can be very, very good. Now, this season on the entire season, it has been pretty rocky. The guy’s got a 516 ERA, over 113 innings. So, definitely eating innings, but giving up a lot of hits, giving up a lot of walks, and ultimately letting people score around the bases. The one thing that I think that Ross Atkins and the uh the Blue Jays management could really sell themselves on with Luis Severino though is those home and away splits. Man, when he is out of Sacramento, this dude is right back to being that ace that he was with the Yankees years and years and years ago. He’s got a 304 RA in that time over 47.1 innings. When he is at home, that’s where you see the whip skyrocket. That’s where you see the ERA go through the roof. So, I mean, could you make the argument that the conditions are that bad and Sacramento is such a hitter friendly ballpark? I think that there’s something to be said there. I mean, if the guy is really uncomfortable pitching there, he’s obviously not going to have his best stuff. We’ve seen that. I can’t assure you that he’s going to be a three RA guy once he gets traded, but I do think that there is there is some uh, you know, smoke to that fire, fire to that smoke. Yeah. No, there there definitely is. I mean, like we heard on the broadcast when he was pitching against the Blue Jays that he likes to go into the clubhouse and pedal on a bike in between his innings to keep active and be an AC. Well, there is no clubhouse to go and pedal in on a bike in Sacramento. You’re just sweating in a in a box. And I, you know, that can affect a pitcher. We actually did see too that like his grip was starting to get a little bit loose out there. Like just pure just sweating all over the ball. That’s a factor too. Why not come over to Ro Center? We got AC in the dome. I’m sure he’ll absolutely love that. But I could definitely believe the Blue Chiefs with their financial capabilities going and acquiring him because he is going to cost roughly $67 million I believe it is. You can go and acquire that guy if need be. Well, and the great thing too, I mean, is the Athletics, it’s not like they have a ton of money right now, you know, and Ross Atkins has come out and said that we can flex that financial muscle. That’s actually some that was a report that came out like a couple weeks ago. This is an individual who has a lot of money tied to him, who’s not happy with where he is. The team is not happy with him because he’s not happy with them, so they want to get rid of him, and he’s not performing very well. All of these things lead me to believe that the Toronto Blue Jays could walk in there, offer up their 27th ranked prospect, say, “We’ll take the money,” and that will get it done. And it looks like Luis Severino, to your point earlier, would want to be a Toronto Blue Jay. Now, this is pure speculation, but this is somebody that averages 95 mph on his fast, folks. 95 mph or 94.9 on his fast ball when he was playing against the Toronto Blue Jays. Look at this dude. The the the top 20 pitches more than that. Top top 22 pitches over 98 miles hour. That’s crazy, right? You know, that’s obviously not something that, you know, he does on a daily typical basis over there. That to me screams, “Hey guys, here I am. This is what I have in the tank. I want out of here and I want to be with you.” Yeah. He And look, he’s got familiarity playing in the AL East as well. You know, he’s played a lot of those teams, Baltimore, Boston, Tampa Bay, right? Obviously, the Blue Jays, but he won’t be anymore. He knows the Yankees, so I feel like this would be a comfort thing for him. And now the Blue Jays and he are going to be heavy buyers. It makes a lot of sense for me. This wouldn’t be the kind of guy that would be starting one. Who knows? Maybe he has an incredible second half and like those numbers really pop off those away splits and he when he’s in an actual major league facility, he actually does really well, but it’s still not that number one dude, but there might not be those number one guys available at this deadline. I think acquiring this guy is going to help you for the future and will definitely help you now. Yeah, it’s an insurance policy. you know, if if Basset leaves in free agency, which will probably happen. Obviously, we still got a ways to go there. But folks, let us know your thoughts about all this in the comments down below. Are these two individuals that you would like to see the Toronto Blue Jays go out and target and acquire? 1. if deGrom is off the table Severino is a great option. he's from DR and will fit in nicely with Vladdy and crew. i agree the park he's in now is not suitable, it doesn't even have working golf carts to carry injured players off the field, look it up.

  2. Cade Smith in Cleveland is a Canadian. He would be sick.

Griffen Jax is a guy Plouffe says 'has some of the nastiest stuff in the league". For what that's worth

  3. Won't matter, if they didn't use the break to pull their heads out of their asses. Going 3-3 to the white Sox and As, that's not acceptable for the position they're in. Got cocky and their hubris was exposed

  4. Severino? For sure if he actually wants to come here. I would try for a lights out closer/set up guy as well though if that was the case.

  5. Should be some combination of :
Joe Ryan or Nathan Eovaldi (SP)
Griffin Jax or Cade Smith (RP) – high leverage swing and miss relievers

  6. I'm not sure what our trading options are. But I really hope we don't trade Barger. I'd like to see Barger develop into a long-term Jay. Since his first year, seeing his swing, seeing his arm. That's a guy who can be developed into an elite player. Put the time and money into his development. It would be great to flip Giminez. Maybe move Davis to second. Develop him at second. Keep Clement at third base. And I think we have a team to develop.

We could move some AAA outfielders. Try and get a pitcher or two. I wish we could see a trading block to know who's up to move.

  7. Also, I'd like to see who else is bummed out that we missed out on Tyler O'Neil this year…. I was really hoping we would grab him this year. Maybe Baltimore would be willing to make a trade.
