Unpopular opinion, the only reason these animals still exist and are being preserved is because rich people are willing to pay tens of thousands of dollars to kill them. That being said, it’s still gross.
Who would you rather cull the herds, a park ranger whose salary doesn’t even cover their boots or some NFL player putting thousands of dollars into the village economy? Those animals are going to be killed for the health of the herds.

Population control, nuisance/threat animal or for food I’m fine with hunting. I just question what type of person finds it fun to kill just for a picture or trophy.
Im not one to defend the Cutlet but he dropped a shit ton of cash on a poor community to go on safari and shoot animals who’s meat will be donated to said poor community.
I don’t get the draw myself, it’s not something I’d ever do. But unless you are a Stage 5 Vegan who won’t eat anything that casts a shadow, give him a break on this one.

Just so, people who don’t know, do know: almost all conservation in africa is paid for by hunting tags.
If you gave infinite money to a conservation effort, they would still have to have culling with rifles.
The best example is the cecil, the lion backlash.
The whole Cecil lion thing made it less popular for people to pay for tags. To hunt elderly male lions.
As a result of this, not only were the elderly male lions called by the government, but there was no money for conservation. So two hundred male lions were called by the government. Furthermore, they lost their economic support for supporting anti poaching and preservation of habitat.
It led to near collapse of lions in the.Region
So if you’re going to be against trophy hunting, at least put your money where your mouth is. And do a fundraiser where you pay the fifty thousand dollars that they would pay for 1 tag
I think it’s weird that people want to pay 50 grand to shoot a lion in the head. But without them where are you? Not better, that’s the problem with the current thing. And hashtag activism.

Local governments in Africa actually organize a lot of these trophy hunts, they take some animals that are getting a little too overpopulated, and place them in a controlled setting where they allow people to hunt some of them, and the proceeds are usually at least partially used to combat poaching
