3 Trades To Make The Kansas City Royals Have A Better Future. #baseball #mlb #sports #royals

three moves I would make for the Kansas City Royals at the trade deadline. The first trade sends out two players in Seth Lugo and Freddy Fermine who both go to the San Diego Padres’s along with some international pool bonus money. The Padres’s sent back Brad Gla Rodriguez who is a 21-year-old pitching prospect who made his debut in the MLB this year along with posting a 3.25 ERA and a 2.43 fifth in double and triple X. They also send back Brandon Butterworth, a second base prospect who is 22 years old in high A and has posted a 116 WRC plus. And lastly, the Royals get 24-year-old outfielder Kai Roberts, who at 6’4 provides great fielding and speed while batting for a 732 OPS and high A. Lugo is one of the best starters available at the deadline with a player option for next season and gets you a prospect with starter potential, but could also be a great reliever in the bigs. While moving for mean opens up a spot for the third ranked prospect catcher Carter Jensen, who has over a 10,000 ops in AAA Omaha right now and had a 780 ops in DA at 22 years old. The final trade sends John Shriber to the Dodgers for Eric Swan, a 66 23-year-old pitching prospect with a fast ball that can top out 101 with a 60 grade slider and an upper 80s change up that gives him starter potential with his 1.47 whip and high A. Let me know how you feel about these trades in the comments.

  1. As a Royals fan one thing I’ll comment about is I’ve seen several of your Shorts which include Lugo and the Royals in each trade get consistently way less than Lugo is worth. Is he a Rental? Yes. Is he one of the Top 3 SP’s on the Trade Market and the one who is performing the best right now? Also yes. Those guys don’t get a Reliever and a Lottery Ticket or 2, much less have to give up a Top 25 Catcher by WAR (Catchers are different since Back-ups play so much so in order to get a valid sample size you have to bring the AB threshold down to 150 AB’s) along with him. Not to mention the Padres wouldn’t want Fermin with Salas in AA already.

The most likely teams in the Lugo Sweepstakes right now are teams like the Dodgers, Cardinals, Red Sox, and Cubs who desperately need SP and have Top OF’s/OF Prospects, the Royals current offensive weakness. Think Cassie from the Cubs or Durran from the Red Sox…

  2. The biggest move for the Royals would be to bring back Ned Yost. Silent but Nedly has nothing but a record of success in small markets and coached the Brewers and the Royals out of mediocrity…
