Behind The Grind Ep. 3 | Mauicamp
Okay, good morning guys. All right, a couple things that we want to be able to do. If you said, “What’s the intent of this meeting?” What we want to be able to make sure is you guys are all on the same page with Maui next week. If you really said, “Hey, what’s the goal of this?” The goal is for you guys to be able to enjoy having your families there, getting some time together. But it is a cool opportunity when you really look at it and you know what you guys mean to the community and the platform that you guys have and really appreciate your guys heart for people and really just representing. And I believe better people make better players. There’s 40 days until July 22nd. And how you guys handle that is going to be key and critical for us to be able to get up here and say, “Hey, let’s pick up where we left off. We can’t go back to phase one. This has been an awesome off season.” When you really talk about, “Hey, seen is better than said.” I saw a lot of things that give me optimism, belief, and confidence that some special things can be in store. Hey, [Music] On the Valley Aisle, the NFL returns. The Los Angeles Rams are holding a two-day mini camp starting today. The special edition of mini camp, which the Rams are calling Maui Camp. This is the first time the Rams will be back in the state since they hosted a preseason game at Aloha Stadium in 2019. The goal to uplift the Maui community in a new and exciting way. [Music] the motor video. [Music] Hello. Oh, there we go, girls. Beautiful. Woohoo. Thank you. Thank you. Let me see. Loose. Beautiful. Beautiful. Come on. We’re in 674. Yeah. All right. 674. Haha. It is right. Come on in. Check it out. Come on, Coco. Come on, honey. This is our room. Come on. Check it out. Oo. What do you think, girls? I love this. Oh, it’s beautiful. Oh, look at the ocean. You going to leave your flowers on? You can leave them on if you want. No. Okay. You want to go see the ocean? Yeah. Come here. Did you see them? No. No. Come here. You got to help me spot them. Big jump. I got you. You got me. Find the chickens. I think I got you. It’s awesome to be able to bring the family, especially kind of traveling with the team and, you know, the Rams roll out the red carpet for everyone, you know, to get get everybody down here and we’re looking forward for an awesome week. Come here. Ready? Oh, I see a little baby chicken. Where? Where? Oh, yeah. There is a chicken over there. Yeah. All right. Cor wins the game. What are you doing? Huh? What are you doing, Daddy? Stop. Well, I got to check the beds real quick. Daddy, let me run. I got to check the beds. That one that one didn’t didn’t sound very good for you. You know, I think the success of the team is the team. And I think the more you know about your your teammates and whether you know their family lives, their backgrounds, that just makes the team stronger. That one sounded better. You know, a lot of the guys, especially in the O line room, know me as, you know, me as the player, but, you know, they’ve yet to kind of be around me as, you know, my three daughters and my wife and, you know, my mom being here. So, it’s definitely just a a different side that people get to see, and I think that’s a really cool thing. Come here, Coco. Can you take your baby out? She’s getting hot. Maybe. Did you pack your baby? Yeah. Perfect. Got to have the blankie. Okay. Rest. Oh, careful. There’s a spider. I’m just kidding, baby. It’s not a real spider. We’re doing a ton of X’s and O’s right now of on the field stuff, but in terms of bringing a team together, this is one of the better ways to ever go about doing that. Think you can get all the way up to that top of that mountain there, LSE? Yeah. You think so? Be pretty far. [Music] Welcome. Thank you. Enjoy your time. So they said you’re doing their fire tonight. No, not me. They said you are. [Music] We got to get those on social. [Music] Ladies and gentlemen, our emo, our underground oven. It’s one of the main entre that everyone’s hopefully going to get to try tonight. The pua aalua. It’s famously known from Hawaii here, the Hawaiian roast pig or the Hawaiian pulled pork. That is your meal for the evening. Aloha. It is a thrill to welcome all of you to Maui to bring Rams to Maui camp and I hope you all enjoy this special time. It is rare that we get to bring the entire organization, players, coaches, staff, families together. I hope you enjoy the time with each other. This is a special way to end the off season in a beautiful environment. Hawaii truly is Rams country. Enjoy, reflect, and get ready for what’s going to be an amazing adventure. Welcome als to Maui as we call Maui Noi Maui noi. I do want to tell you that it has not been the first time that you folks have come here and supported Maui. In 1970s, you guys had already been doing football camps here. And one of those first football camps was done right actually on the island of Monoka where I’m from, Merlin Osen, your defensive linebacker. And why I say that is because for us here in Hawaii, in Maui, sports has been huge for us. And you guys have set the bar for the kids here in Hawaii to have that opportunity. Your time, your effort and your commitment to this place we call home is truly no oi. Mahalo and along [Music] Hey 22, how you doing? Feeling big, feeling strong. That fresh five on me, man. No, I gained 50 miles hour when I ran five. I’mma fly today. [Applause] Okay, you’re here in the front. Are you the best at or Come on. Come on. Right on. Shoot. One, two, three. Shoot. One, two, three, shoot. Yep. Easy. Oh, no. Don’t get scared. Don’t get scared. No. All right. All I needed was one. All I needed was one. It feels like home. [Music] Hey, how do you do it? How you doing? As soon as we got off the plane, the first person, he gave me a big hug. He had a big smile. He’s like, “Oh, thank you so much for everything you do for the Polynesian community.” What they say, you got to if you hoot with owls, you got to soar with an eagle. You got a soar, you got a sword. There weren’t a lot of Polynesian players who play the skill positions. All the Polynesians are normally in the trenches and on the defensive side. The Troy Palao who’s an absolute staple. Hey, Steve. I grew up an Oregon fan. Marcus Mariota again. Watching Marcus Mariota have that grace, especially on the offensive side of the ball. The physicality that comes from our culture is it’s awesome. Does it feel real sometimes if people are wearing my jersey? Oh. Oh. I hope that they carry the things that are part of our culture, respect, um, to have the honor and the discipline to represent your family, but also those things carry and translate directly into football. All right, check up. [Music] I’m closing it. Hey. Hey. How many dribbles we got? How many dribbles we got? All right. All right. All right. Maui, how you guys doing today? All right. As you know, we have a connection with LA Rams on our island. We had a tragedy happen here with the fire and they’re going through it as well. And we are so grateful for the support of the LA Rams in our family, in our community here. [Music] Bring it back. Bring it back. Go up top. I think it’s something that we all can relate to. Being able to understand and have that empathy of like this is a similar situation to what we were in. [Music] The support that you want to give to those people who are going through that issue and to see how it can bring a community closer together in that time. I think our team has felt that and be able to come back and give back to these kids and uh see a smile on their face is something that I always want to be a part of. [Music] Great opportunity here for us as Los Angeles Rams to be here at Maui this week. We got a chance to come and and really experience the culture and the atmosphere of the people here and give them some love. We both share a tragedy in the last few years with fires and these two communities. We want to pull together and see how we can support one another. This is an opportunity to be here. It’s bigger than just football. It’s a chance to inspire kids to keep chasing their dreams. Let them know we’re still thinking about them. We still love them. That’s why it’s such a cool opportunity for me today to get to announce these young student athletes that they’re going to have brand new lockers donated to them. So, let’s go. We want these young people to be inspired every time they walk in that locker room and that they can accomplish anything in the world that they possibly ever want to. And more importantly, that we’re on their team and we’re on their side. And we want that for them as well. We want to be there a part of their rebuild and a part of everything they do to chase what it is they want to be great at. We want to inspire them to get there. 1 2 3. [Music] There you go. Good luck, man. Have a good day out there. This stuff I just See, brother whenever I can, like during the season, I’ll go on Tuesdays, off day. If I can get a free day, I’m going to go do it. I’m never really going for anything huge, but try to do some tuna fishing, try to do some marlin and stuff like that. You know, it’s one of those things being patient, but getting that reward in the end has always been rewarding to me. That’s how we was catching them at that the other day. Follow the birds just throwing wherever they was diving at. Wow. Like I love going out there and you might go out there for 5 hours and not catch anything. Or you might catch every time you cast just hoping that it’s that time. Head up. You want to drive the boat? Yeah, I drive. Head on. Drive. It was a little shaky in the beginning. I think he’s starting to get the hang of it. I’ll take it. I just love when everybody’s together. I feel like the team is already jailed. the younger from the draft. I think they assimilated like so fast, so quick. When you playing next to somebody that you trust, I think it’s going to be a crazy year this year. [Music] Great crowd today here in person. ly open to the public practice. The second of two sessions for your Rams, [Music] [Applause] [Music] Sean, it’s been so great to see your players give so much. These guys understand what a blessing it is to have the platform to really be able to impact and influence positive change and to take advantage of getting good quality time here in an unbelievable setting. [Music] But also, you see the guys, they take the time to sign autographs. They’re just so engaging with the fans. And people have been so welcoming and accommodating. And you know, we knew we weren’t going to get a whole lot of football accomplished. But what we did get was a chance to end the offseason the right way in terms of the connection, the vibe. Anyway, Joe, he ain’t never wore shades. Now he wearing shades. Hey, I love it. I love it. You can’t wear these to practice. Hey people, we need some practice. Living great life. Life can’t be no better. You in Maui. Hey. Hey, listen. If you sweating already, it’s the issue. Okay. Okay. That blue Hawaiian power my tie up on you at the backboard. I mean, I should be exempt out of this. I did the lift this morning. Dude, I’m an absolute monster. gym. I went and ate weights this morning is what I did. I can’t help myself. Yes, dude. Are you a believer that the bonding that you invest in this time of year can bear dividends down the road in the season? I don’t think there’s any question about it. What I think is cool, too, is I don’t think those things can be forced. I think it’s got to, you know, occur authentically and organically. I think what’s great about this locker room, it’s a bunch of different personalities, but there’s a similar core values and principles in terms of who they are, how they move, what they’re about as a human being most importantly. And I am a big believer that better people make better players. Hooker is the happiest football player ever. Always smiling. Smiling right as a You must have the best pitchers in the game. Cheese right before I be making ugly ass faces. That’s why I wear the uh pacifier cuz if I don’t have my pacifier in, I’ll be looking crazy crossing somebody out. Yeah. I even try to train myself to do the MJ like like like do something. Yeah. Cuz the tongue out look bad ball. Bad ball. You go bang on somebody and you like that. That’s nasty. Should we just run something to like give him something to cheer about? I’ll spin it for you. Got to spin the one hand shots. Turn. [Applause] Oh my. [Applause] [Music] Watch it. Hey, that swing is crazy. That swing is crazy. Yeah. I say you just tee off. Try to get that fairway. We’re a group and we go anywhere. Everywhere together. Yeah, we all locked in. Oh yeah. That’s money, guys. Oh, the bunker. Oh yeah. All good shots on this hole. That’s the plan. Stephanie and them team is semi-pros, bro. I seen them walking to the bus today and they they look like they was in their element. Get out of there. [Music] Go left. Yeah, way left. That’s all right. How sick would it be if one of us made a whole one on this? Beautiful. Oh my god, the X is pretty. Get over it, baby. Over and over. Hey, we’re on. We’re on. Best shot I’m going to hit today. Right there. [Music] To be fair, we’re having a better time. So, they can eagle all they want, but the vibes are higher over here. was that good. Oh yeah, that’s the island speaking. I think it’s awesome that we do stuff like this. I mean, like all of us are together for so long. I mean, six, seven months out of the year, you know, we’re at the facility or playing a game. Gives us an opportunity to get to know each other and to just become really great friends and, you know, just ready to have some fun and play some ball and win a championship. Oh yeah, there it is. Maybe just aim like right here. Hey, that might be it in these are some greatest people on earth being around in one of the greatest places on earth just being able to be around, you know, the team and just be in this beautiful place. I mean, it’s amazing. [Music] It’s been a really good off season. And I think guys are excited about, you know, the opportunity to come together as a team. And we’ll see where that thing goes when we report on the 22nd. 2. Let’s get it, baby. I’m very optimistic about our chances to be able to come together and to be able to impact each other in a positive way. Thanks for watching.
