New York Mets: 2025 First Half Highlights (Ft. Soto, Lindor, Pete Alonso, Nimmo, McNeil & MORE!)
Well, he’s left-handed and he hits this one with authority. That one is out of here. Juan Sodto’s first home run as a New York Met a laser. And so many more to come in the next 15 years. It usually doesn’t take long for Sodto to hit his first home run with a new team. He did it in Washington right away. With the Yankees, it was his third game. With the Mets, his second. Sometimes you got to let people know what neighborhood you from. That ball is squared up. Lor gets a breaking ball and drills it to right center. Overcomes the center fielder straw tagging is Siri. He comes in to score and the Mets have a walk-off win at City Field. Lor wastes no time, jumps on a first pitch breaking ball and lines a sacrifice fly. The Mets win it 3-2. They’ve taken the first two games of this series. They’ve won three in a row. Come from behind fashion tonight. Two in the eighth and one in the ninth. And the Mets win it 3-2. What a game. Back and forth. Back and forth. We head to the bottom of the ninth. 4-4. The stage is set. All we need now is cue the music. Fly ball. That should do it. Upper deck. It’s gone. Francisco Lindor wants it for the Mets. His first walk-off home run in a Mets uniform. And this place is going wild on a Friday night. And that was Francisco Lindor’s 250th career home run. Now breaks the tie for the fifth most home runs as a shortstop with Jos Valentin. Line off the glove of Akuna into right field. Sodto gears up on the throw home and it is in time. He got him. Juan Sto throws on Nick Costanos at the plate to keep this game tied. And Pete lofts one to right center field cutting over in the gap. Stevenson, he won’t get it. Lor’s in with the tying run. Alonzo in at second base. He has an RBI double and the Mets have tied it at three. 26 RBI’s for Alonzo on the 23rd of April and he’s gotten the Mets even in the 10th. He’s protecting the plate. They just threw an up and in fast ball and Marte dumps one into center field. Base hit. Here comes Alonzo. Stevenson’s thrown to the plate. Two lane and the Mets have won it. Seven straight for New York. Marte the hero. A broken back dunker into center field. Enough to win it. The Mets rally for two in the bottom of the 10th. They finish off a 7 and0 home stand as they sweep the Phillies. And NMO cracks one out to right center field. Back in the gap goes Cruz. Back to the warning track. Takes a look and it’s out of here. Brandon NMO with a threerun homer. His fifth home run of the year. And the Mets have doubled their lead. It’s six to nothing New York in the sixth. NMO’s home run, a three-run shot in the sixth. Was his fifth of the year. The 115th of his career. And he slams this one to deep right field. Back goes Cruz. Back to the wall. And it’s out of here. A grand slam for Brandon NMO. A two home run, seven RBI day for NMO. 11 to nothing New York. What a day for Brandon. It’s been struggling. We mentioned it since the 2024 All-Star break. A 190 average, a 590 OPS. He has turned that around in huge fashion. And Brandon pulls one over the bag. That’s going to go down the line. It hits the Jing stands. Alonzo is in. Winker will score. Vientos will be held at third. Brandon NMO with a nine RBI day, tying a Mets club record. And he’s done it in the last three innings. Brandon NMO joins Carlos Delgado as the only Mets ever to drive in nine runs in a single game. Fly ball deep center field. Young goes back, looks up, and it’s out of here. A three-run homer for Mark Ventos. His third of the year. It’s now 19 to five. And Cruz strikes out. And that’s how this one ends. Jos Arena goes the last three to get the save. Randon NMO puts his name in the Mets record books with a nine RBI day as the Mets get a split of their four-game series in Washington as they demolish the Nets 19 to five. Gets this one of the year to deep left center field back in the gap. Gel takes a look and it’s out of here. One solo’s first City Field home run as a Met. All you have to do is flip the calendar page to the month of May and Sodto goes deep in flushing. He’s been hitting a lot of that fly balls to left field on that same pitch. Just getting under it. This one he did not. Yeah, he got the barrel on it. And he flies this one low to left center field. Back at the gap goes Thomas near the wall. It’s out of here. Second of the day for Juan Sodto. He’s broken the dam and the waters floating through. Two home runs to the identical spot in backto back at bats. And once again, Sodto gets the Mets back within a run. Same pitch, same spot. Bell tie. He’s starting to zero in. 1-1. Batty lifts a breaking ball deep right center field. Racing over his Tucker for Armstrongs at the wall. It’s gone. And the Mets are right back in it with the long ball. It’s four to three. Backto back nights for Batty with a blast. And the Mets are right back in this game. The struggles with runners in scoring position all gone with one swing. Welcome back, Brett Batty. Batty sends it the other way. Well struck ball. Suzuki back at the wall. Nobody’s hotter for the Mets than Brett Batty all of a sudden. His second of the night. Makes it a one-run game again. Opposite field power for a second straight night. Three home runs in the series. And this is a one-run ball game with two down in the eighth in the air to deep left center field. Nemo goes back near the wall, makes a leap, but he made the catch right at the orange line. Nemo timed it perfectly. Boy, Bart has hit a couple of bullets and he’s got nothing to show for it tonight. So now the infield comes in with Pete Alonzo, the batter. Ball is a ball in the air, right field. That should be deep enough. Lindor tagging at third. Reynolds makes the catch. Here comes Lindor with the winning run. And the Mets have walked it off in the bottom of the ninth. Pet Alonzo with the sacrifice fly. And the Mets win a scrapping game as they defeat the Pirates in the opening game of the series 4 to3. Stayed inside of it. He got himself a sack fly. He got the Mets away and a fly ball hit to left center. Not very deep. Akuna tagging under it is Bellinger. He makes the catch. Here comes Akuna. The throw to the plate. Not in time and the Mets take the lead. With Aunia speed at third base, Lindor got it just deep enough. The Mets lead 3 to2 in the ninth. 3-2 coming. He struck him out and the ball game is over. 99 mph gas upstairs and Edwin Diaz notches the save and the Mets even up the series with a 3-2 thriller. That was the pitch, Ron. Right. I was wrong. Wow. He had a very good fast ball today. Every once in a while, it’s like, I’m going to throw this ball as hard as I can. See if you can hit it. Mets on the bases loaded and nobody out. And Francisco Lindor coming up. And Francisco swings and flies one right. That’s deep. Tman goes back. He makes the catch and Taylor can walk on in with the winning run. And the Mets win it two to one. Lonzo drove in a couple of runs last night. now 48 for the year, third in the National League. And he wastes no time driving one out to deep right center field. Back in the gap, Pahes takes a look and it’s out of here. Pete Alonzo with a two-run homer. His 13th home run of the year. He’s got 50 runs batted in and the Mets have a three nothing lead in the first inning. He just got such power to all fields. So here’s Alonzo delivered a two-run homer in the first inning and he drives this one to deep left field. Forget that. That is way up in the pavilion. Pete Alonzo in his second of the night. A three-run bomb and he doubles the match. Late is six to nothing New York. 22nd career multiple home run game for Alonzo. A 5 RBI night and that was crushed. He got a high cheddar 447 ft. 3/4 of the way up in the pavilion in left field. Well, that’s what happens when he gets a hold of one. Pete drives one deep to left center field. Beck goes back, takes a look, and it’s out of here. Pete Alonzo with a two-run homer, his 16th of the year. And with that home run, he ties David White for second place on the Mets all-time home run list, his 242nd career home run. Most guys, Gary, he didn’t get all of that. There was a slider towards the end of the bat. Most guys don’t get it out of the ballpark. Pete does and Allonzo drives one to deep left field back toward the corner. It is out of here. Pete Alonzo strikes again. His second home run of the day. His 17th home run of the year. He goes past David Wright into second place all by himself on the Mets alltime home run list. A two-run shot for Alonzo to make it 12-3 New York. Unreal. Soda to the plate is the tying run. Sodto’s already homerred once tonight. And here’s the O2. Sodto lines it to right field. In comes Hassel. Dodge forward. Can’t get it. Scoots behind his glove. Rolling towards the warning track. Around third heading to the plate is Marte. Sodto will stop at second as Marte scores standing. It is four to three Washington. And the tying run is at second with two out here in the bottom of the eighth. Pete Alonzo do up. And Pete drives one toward the left field corner. That ball is off the fence. That’ll tie the game. Soda is in. Allonzo racing for second. He slides and he’s out at second base. Pete Alonzo with his 19th RBI in nine June games. Jeff McNeel due to lead off and McNeel lines one into right field for a base hit. Here comes Aun around third. Hassles thrown to the plate. Too late. The Mets win it. One pitch in the bottom of the 10th and Jeff McNeel delivers the third walk-off hit of his career. Mets win it five to four. Jeff McNeel never wanted to waste anybody’s time. Jumps on the first pitch he sees from Cole Henry and drives in the winning run. David Peterson has appeared in 12 career games against the Nationals. The Mets are 11 and one in those 12 games. And Wood goes down swinging to add to those numbers. Double play ball if they hurry. The turn by 80 and they double up the speedy Jacob Young. One, two coming and he chased the change up for strike three and Chaparo swings and misses at another slider. And that’s the third strike out for Peterson. Second time he’s got Chaparo. One, two coming. Struck him out. Got him with the slider. Backto back strikeouts for Peterson after giving up two hits to start the inning. And he goes down swinging on the back foot curveball. Five strikeouts now for Peterson including three of the last four batters. Well, we go to the ninth inning. The Mets lead the Nationals five to nothing and the crowd gave David Peterson a big cheer as he trotted out to the mound in search of his first major league complete game. They’re cheering for him now. He struck him out. Two men down and Chaparo hits it hard. Batty’s got it. Makes the running throw and the ball game is over. David Peterson with a masterful six hit shut out. The first complete game of the season for the Mets and Peterson throws nine scoreless innings and the Mets defeat the Nats. Dave Peterson with just his best effort. Luis Garcia flies one to right center. Over in the gap comes Taylor diving and he made the catch. Oh wow. Tyrone Taylor, Superman. Spectacular play by Tyrone Taylor to end the top of the sixth. An inning that featured a worrisome exit for Kodi Sanga is capped by a brilliant defensive play by Tyrone Taylor. NMO swings away, sends it towards right center. Long run for Brandon Marsh all the way to the wall and NMO goes deep. He has tied Lindor and Todd Hunley with 124 home runs in a Met uniform. They have won a franchise record 27 straight games when he has hit a home run. Payoff pitch is lifted in the air to center. Marsh racing towards the track. Still moving, still going. And right on Q. There’s the power that Lindor has been searching for. Now the pressure is on that streak. Now they have to win, right? NMO golfs one deep to right field. Castano’s back all the way to the track. He knows it’s gone. NMO ties the game with his second of the night. And the Mets go back to back for a second consecutive night. And now here’s Sodto who singled back in the first payoff. and he hammers this one. That would be a home run in just about any park. Backto back to back the Mets to take the lead in the third. He pulls this one. Castanos doesn’t even turn around and Sono watches it fly to the upper deck. His second of the night. And the solo home run party for New York continues. Drilled by Alvarez. It’s a righty this time. It’s a solo shot. We are not part of history. The seventh solo job for the Mets tonight. And he drives one to deep right center field. Beck goes Harris to the wall. It’s out of here. One pitch and the Mets are back in front on Juan Sodto’s 18th home run of the year. Sodto unloads one to right center field headed toward the wall and it’s out of here. Juan Sodto with his second of the night. His 27th career multiple home run game. That’s the most in history for any player under 27 years old. He had been tied with Jimmy Fox for that record and now he’s gotten it by himself. [Applause]
