Red Sox vs. Cubs Game Highlights (7/18/25) | MLB Highlights

We’re here from Wrigley Field Cubs taking on the Red Sox. Technically it’s the start to the second half of the season at the Red Sox traded. They played really well. They’re back in the playoff, the second wild card spot. They are now on a 10 game win streak. That is going to be the job for Colin to be the stopper because if you’re the Red Sox, the break came at the worst time. If you’re the Cubs, maybe you can take advantage of that. Colin Ray has really taken advantage in his last three starts. I mentioned that he has a 193, a , if you go back to his last start against Minnesota, he goes seven gives up a run on three hits, strike, one strikeout to start things off the two to two swing and a miss strike three, a vanishing breaking ball. 123 Colin Ray including a couple of strikeouts. Lucas Giolito, he is sizzling five and zero, a of 0 70 in his last six starts. Fantastic 180 batting average and it’s really been the fastball last game season high, 61% 14 fastballs. It was swing and miss and it just set up that changeup slider and that’s upstairs for ball four. Busch is on in front of the very dangerous kyle Tucker payoff patience, Michael Bush walk. Kyle Tucker walked and Sea Suzuki up two on nobody out here in the first. Talk about all star Snubs. Seau was a snub in a great first half, 25 homers, 77 runs batted in left center. Going back to the, it’s a three run homer. Saya Suzuki gives the Cubs a three nothing lead say was sitting on dead red knew he was going to get a fastball that came at the top of the zone and he did not miss a air shallow left a long run in a base hit PC A to second. Credit him with a double and here are the Cubs in the first. This is fun. Had no clue. Didn’t know where it was, but this is one gruesome start. Yeah, this is not what you’re looking for here. You to kind of carry the momentum. You won 10 straight. You’re not gonna win out the rest of the year, but you’d certainly like to be playing a little bit better than maybe the way this thing started with a couple of walks and little sun ball. Three, nothing still nobody out. Kelly 276 with 12 home runs. The catcher popped it up another play on the infield Meyer coming in. Here comes Bregman and Bregman will make the play finally one away swing and a miss got him. That was a great slider from now. Two git could get out of here allowing just three runs. He certainly sign up for that to left center field and there goes all the way to the track into the Ivy makes the play makes the catch for out. Number three, a rough start. Giolito gives up the blast. 43 Colin just continuing to attack that, that’s really the name of the game for him. And so just goes in with the heater and blow it by him and that will do the trick. I mean, few strikeouts for Colin. There’s a drive to right long run. Tucker over toward the line. Tucker makes a great sliding catch. What a play and gets it back in holding at first is a beautiful play by kyle Tucker. Racing over toward the side wall , had to slide. If you don’t slide, you’re going to hit a very hard wall going at a high speed and that’s not pleasant taking on Nico Horner, the second baseman wal away foul tip to the mint and hung on to by Narvaez for the K. And this is what we talk about. We didn’t see the first two hitters getting ahead with the fastball and Then expanding with the slider and that changeup, that’s where he had a ton of swing and miss that is an ugly swing right past him for strike. Three quick inning there, good recovery for Lucas as they go in order. So Durant is on and Red Sox take their second walk against Ray here. This comes with two down and brings up Bregman. He’s holding and a ground ball through that open space corner can’t get to it. Durant is going to get to third standing. Bregman just enough muscle to guide that into right field and the Red Sox have something brewing 1st and 3rd and 2 down to get something going here with two outs line shot toward the gap that’s going to drop down. The run is in Bregman into third and to second base with a double Roman Anthony gave him a 10 game hitting streak and the Red Sox get on the scoreboard in Chicago. It is 3 to 1 doing this with two down. Game one out of the break was nice to get on the board. Now you knock away from tying this thing up and kind of starting this game over. He gets the Red Sox on the board and it’s in third for carlos Narvaez swing and a Miss strike three got him with an inside fastball score one but two in the left hand box, 12 swing and a Miss Giolito ties up Pete Armstrong with a diving slider toward the back foot in that left hand box for strikeout number four. And there’s two away here in the last of the third. That one ripped down the left field line. Durant giving chase into the corner and running that he paid the price too. He hangs on, made an outstanding catch in the corner and banging up against that wall, which is unforgiving to say the least kind of smiles it off, but this is kind of tucked into that corner, but he makes a beautiful catch down the line. This thing gets down, it’s a run Then right into that Ivy with no patting on the other side of that. So now the Red Sox about to get their third look at Colin Ray Jaron Durant zero for one with a walk and a run and ball four good take 1st and 2nd and nobody out. Bregman one for two of the base hit to right big pitch coming up to center. He makes the catch hell, fire to second. It’s a double play throw back into second. What’s going on there and he’s out. Armstrong’s going to get there easy right there. He’s got to stop and go back for some reason. He peaked and actually thought it was going to drop and kept going. Like if he had stopped from the first time right here, he got back, but he keeps going and he’s out easily at second base. That’s right in front of you. Toro did not get and he gets doubled off and the Red Sox cost themselves big time there, but just a terrible read. See if Roman can catch it in 30 , it is ball four missed outside. So Anthony casually flips the bat aside. I mean, the bases should be loaded with one out instead, two on two out and there’s carlos Narvaez ground ball to short fielded by Swanson go to second. There’s the force that’s the inning. Red Sox should have done a lot more than that 3 to 1. Cubs Kyle Tucker heading down to first and that will be because of a catcher’s interference. Calls Suzuki, the batter, the runners take their lead. Did Lucas get him this time gonna pop this up story there calls off Bregman infield fly in effect and he makes the play. Of course, it does not get any easier here because Pete Crow Armstrong is gonna bat swing and a miss struck him out. Crow Armstrong flipping down the bat in anger two stranded one out here in the six hit to right Obra back. It is off the top of the wall in the second. Almost had a homer who will settle for a double. He hit it hard hit it far. Keep your hand in for a four to Swanson walking the first man he faces and here is Niko Horner. Niko is zero for two has struck out and fly ball shoots into left field for a base hit. Here’s the throw home, it’s close. Miko Horner RB I single comes back up by three. It’s a 4 to 1 game. You see him around. Slide by here is Matt by Bregman. The runners will get back to 1st and 2nd 2 down. Back up to the top of the order in Bush Red Sox down by three with this 10 game winning streak in action out of the all star break the 21. Bush swings and rolls it to first to back up handles the hot chest high throws to Bernardino covering and the inning is over to a good sinking fastball and get a ground ball. Comes a double play right now. Champion team in Houston and can’t get the throw off another fielder’s choice to to third Durant out at second and Greg at first, Roman Anthony will step to the plate for Boston hit to deep right playable for Tucker makes the catch of the track toward the line. So on to the ninth inning, Daniel Palencia trying to close it here for Chicago comes on top 4 to 1 and Meer will lead off lighter and it will drop into right field for a base hit. So good start here in the Red Sox ninth and Marcello with his second hit ground ball to short Swanson’s got to go to second one over to first but a two, a double play 643 on the twin killing Swanson to Horner to Bush. Exactly what the doctor ordered and all of a sudden the Red Sox are down to their last chance that’s hit to right Kyle Tucker a warning the Cubs win, the Red Sox winning streak is history and the Cubs win the first game after the All Star break. What a statement by the Cubs.
