I know a lot of players could be considered as having a greater level of skill (like Lemieux – my childhood hero) but Datsyuk always looked like he had the most finesse and "art" of any player Imo. Hopefully this doesn't get flagged by mods

  1. I’m 4 white claw surge deep and just realized I’ve been watching the loop of this beautiful move for five minutes

  2. Nobody made highlights reel plays as casually as he did, only ones even close to him are Paddy Kane, Pavel Bure, Sergei Fedorov, Bobby Orr, Sidney Crosby and Connor McDavid, elite company, nobody else comes anywhere close to being as good as Datsyuk

  3. Pavel was like no one before him and his moves have been emulated by the younger gen. He ever so subtly edged the game itself forward. First ballot.

  4. The curse of NHL highlights is that Datsyuk is now remembered as a shootout guy instead of his true unparalleled talent, defensive skating and forechecking.

Not to say he didn’t do great in shootouts but they don’t happen most games to begin with and he was maybe the best pickpocket in the league at the time.

  5. Incredible player, but every time I see this clip I just think “what the hell was the goalie doing!?”

  6. remember the first time i saw him do that, maybe against dallas, pure filth and the best part was *everybody* knew it.

  7. I just realized that this is why Hischier wears 13 in New Jersey. Man, I can be so dense sometimes.

  8. The magician. Almost heinous to say but a good reason my hockey fandom from a young age started. Thank god for 2006.

  9. My favorite part about this goal is that he still puts it far side top corner. Had the whole short side but he’s just got to add that extra touch. Perfect.

  10. You can tell when Pav starts that drag to the right that the goalie is questioning all of his life choices.

  11. His shootouts are the highlights everyone talks about but I remember watching him every game and it’s just the little things. The vision he has, every play, every pass was methodical and thought out like he was two steps ahead of everyone else. He could have the puck in the corner with a defender wrapped around him and he was so calm and could work his way out with a slick pass or move and get himself into a good scoring position. It’s just those little slick plays and wondering what he’s going to do with the puck every shift that made me love to watch him as a player

  12. Him and Marcus Naslund really made the game look slow on the ice when they had the puck. Everyone else was in slowmode, while those two were full speed.

Just how smooth they were with their puck control was so beautiful

  13. As a Flames fan I feel sick typing this out, but the Sedins as well as Draisitil/McDavid.
