Every Steeler knows we had some great ones, 1974 largely considered the best NFL draft class ever. All hall of famers and turned the organization around.

Khan seems to be doing a great job, I hope it works out and continues.

I was futzing around on Old school Nfl and the 83 draft came up about qbs (Elway, Marino, Kelly, Obrien, etc.) And I remember my Uncle being livid we didn't pick the hometown hero Dan Marino. With him on the boardn they don't take him cause of cocaine rumor which devastates the roster for a decade. This I knew and hated. (Also pretty much forced us to pick Kenny Pickett or the backlash would have been insane had he caught on somewhere else). And for Gabriel Rivera?!

What I didn't realize we missed Darrel Green, Henry Ellard, Leonard Marshall, Darryl Talley, Roger Craig, Bill Pickel, Dsve Duerson, Greg Townsend, RIchard Dent, Mark Clayton, Karl Mecklenburg, Nate Newton ,and Jesse Sapolu and picked no one of consequence the entire draft. I think officially we have the best draft class ever in 1974 and the worst ever in 1983🤯🔫

Is there a worse one? What was our worst off season haul?

  1. Not many teams cut Johnny Unitas and pass on Dan Marino and Lamar Jackson and still manage to win 6 titles.

  2. My apologies on the reddit formating…I’m still relatively new to posting. Spacing sucks.

    Basically:

The hometown hero Dan Marino on the board and they don’t take him cause of Cocaine rumor which devastates the roster for a decade. This I knew and hated. (Also pretty much forced us to pick Kenny Pickett or the backlash would have been insane had he caught on somewhere else).

Is this our worst draft class? Is there a worse year for off season haul for the black and gold?

    By the way…Gahnta!

  3. Rivera looked like he was going to be a player before the accident. No compensation for losing a generational talent at QB because the Rooney PI team got their panties in a bind.

  4. the last 10 drafts by Kevin Colberts were the worst stretch of draft picks during any stretch of franchise history – looking at first round picks only during that time, jarvis jones, fartie burns, terrell ugmunds, devin bust, kenny stinkett – the later round picks were even worse than those bums (drops’em johnson, chase clayfool, among MANY others) – this stretch of draft classes set our team back 15 years

edit: forgot the f on fartie

  5. 2008 is a candidate since it might’ve cost them a dynasty. While Rashard Mendenhall wasn’t a bad player, he was selected ahead of four better RBs, Duane Brown, Calais Campbell, and Desean Jackson. Limas was out of the league after two seasons with 20 receptions because he couldn’t catch, and their 3rd round pick Bruce Davis couldn’t make the roster in year two after barely playing.

  6. Yinz not see the past few Colbert drafts? We’ve drafted one player who is above average. Thats Alex Highsmith. The only above average player they have drafted. Not really gonna say anything about Khan but I will say he’s creating holes instead of plugging them

  7. The real question is, would we have seen Marino’s true ability in a Pittsburgh uniform? Chuck Noll was always a defensive minded, run the football type coach, and for the most part so was Bill Cowher so it’s not a guarantee. Even though they were both great coaches they were also pretty stubborn in their ways so who really knows, but it also could have been the Brady/Belichick dynasty before the Brady/Belichick dynasty.

  8. Going to toss in the 1985 draft. Not one player became a starter for the Steelers.

  9. General consensus is Kevin Colbert was terrible. But,
he picked Cam, TJ, Leveon, Shazier, Martavis Bryant, Bud Dupree, Jesse James, Juju, etc. So he had some gems and good picks too. Not championing him, just saying.

Missing out on 3 hall of famers and a genrational talent from Oakland was worse than anything he did I think.

  10. 2022 has to be up there

Kenny Pickett – Bust, not on the team

George Pickens – Not on the team

DeMarvin Leal – Ok depth but nothing more than that

Calvin Austin – hasn’t done enough to prove he’s capable of WR2 duties ( I think he will this year )

Connor Heyward – Wouldn’t be on the team if not for Cameron Heyward

Mark Robinson – bounces from the practice squad to buried on the 53 man

Chris Oladakun – Didn’t make the team
