The Utah Jazz "had to get rid of" John Collins because he was responsible for too many of their wins, per Tim MacMahon on The Hoop Collective.

"He was too damn productive last season. I don't even remember all the injuries they came up with to make sure he didn't play. They limited him to 40 games last year. He played in 70+% of their wins. They didn't win much, but they won too often with John Collins in the lineup and he was a reason."

  1. What is Danny Ainge even doing at this point? They’ve gotta start trying to win eventually right? Or does he think he’s solved “The Process”?

  2. Ainge living off drafting Tatum and brown forever. Basically like doc rivers 08 ring 😂

  3. I wish the NBA would punish teams for sucking instead of rewarding them.

  4. Actively sabotaging the team but Utah fans claim they’re victims for not getting to mainline back to back to back to back top 3 picks when they already botch their lottery picks as is

  5. They’ll tank for sure this year then probably try for wins next year. They need a top 8 pick to keep it next draft.

  6. Why are you referring to Tim MacMahon by a Reddit account that doesn’t exist

  7. When ppl talk about trading stars for a landfill of draft picks they don’t think about how these guys actually have to pan out for that to be a win.

  8. This sounds like one of those game-of-telephone quotes that isn’t actually anywhere close to what the Jazz’s rationale actually was.

  9. Why are people in this thread acting like John Collins at 27 is the piece they need to build around? “

    What is Danny even doing?!?”

Trading away a win now vet when the team is trying to tank and rebuild? This subreddit hates when teams “treadmill” or push for play-ins but also hate when a team that is awful and lacks young talent trades away a vet to focus on young talent lmfao.

  10. Sexton and a SRP for Nurkic to increase your ability to tank should have consequences.

  11. I mean… we don’t own our pick next year if it’s lower than 8. We’re only a play in team at best with the current roster. Tank one more year land AJ or Boozer and then we will actually be able to move past the rebuild and title contend in a few years.

  12. Is this the part where people pretend that John Collins has been secretly really good and was kept down by the Jazz?

I can’t say I watched every John Collins game, but that . . . uh . . . has not been my impression the last few years.

  13. Is this why they gave up a draft pick to swap Sexton for Nurk tok?

Giving up draft picks to tank harder is wild

  14. This is like that time a bunch of candidates failed the police academy entrance exam because they scored too high on the written portion.

  15. Ainge is the master

It’ll turn into a dumpster fire if they miss on Peterson, Dybantsa, Boozer next year, though.

  16. They do realize when they do finally get a good lottery position, the pick isn’t gonna have any help, right? I don’t even understand the thought process behind this kind of stuff.

  17. Clippers off-season: John Collins, cheap Bradley Beal to replace Norm Powell, bargain Brook Lopez to backup Zubat

They didn’t do bad at all, Harden was all-nba last year and Kawhi looked healthy for once, somehow flying under the radar still

  18. This is a random quote from Tim MacMahon. He is not quoting anybody or any sources from the Jazz.

This is a classic Reddit moment where a sportswriter or pundit says something and people assume it’s a quote from inside the organization. The context of the quote is MacMahon explaining how John Collins is still a good player ahead of him joining his new team.

All the redditors acting like this is an actual quote or insider information from the Jazz is ridiculous. This is MacMahon spitballing while praising Collins. I do not understand how people are misreading this so hard.
