Royals vs. Marlins Game Highlights (7/19/25) | MLB Highlights

This is Quantrol’s 19th start of the season. 81 in two/3 innings. And again, a 562 erra in his first year as a Marlin. Bounding ball into the hole. Long throw to first and he got him. What a way to start the ball game. Otto Lopez. One away. That transfer from glove to hand was incredible. Outstanding play. Right-hander Michael Waka. He takes the mound for the 20th time this season. He enters with a 374 erra in 106 innings. Walkas struck out 84. He’s walked 33. Last time he took them out last weekend against the Mets. Five innings of one-run ball. He only allowed two hits. So he sees Xavier Edwards. And the tall right-hander Waka fires and X lines one into right field. That is into the corner for a base hit. Certainly two. Could be three. Ray picks it up. X around second. He’s zooming to third and he’s in there sliding with a leadoff triple. Happy Saturday to you, Mr. Waka. Xavier Edwards is here ready to play. An RBI opportunity for Jesus Sanchez. That’s exactly what he wanted right there. A popup. And it’s Salvi taking charge. Sanchez is out. One gone in the bottom of the first. And that brings up the shortstop. Otto Lopez. Otto Lopez for the runner at third base and one out as the 2-2 is bounced softly towards third. Garcia’s got it. No play at the plate. Throw to first in time, but it’s one- nothing Miami. Lopez with his 50th run batted into the season after the Edwards triple. One- nothing Marlins. Bottom of the first. Here is Augustine Ramirez. Fast nubbed back up the middle. Bounces off the mound. India scoops it up near second. Quick throw to first in time for the out. That ends the inning. The Marlins though grab one run on one hit. Edwards leadoff triple. He scores on the RBI ground out. Here’s a base hit into center field for Nick Loftton and he’s on with two down. Freddy Fine will stride to the plate and he flies one in the air deep to right center field. Meyers is on the run and he gets there. Dane Meyers on a full sprint takes an RBI double away from Freddy Firm mean. Crisis averted. We go to the bottom of the second. One- nothing Fish. Kyle draws a leadoff walk to open the home half of the second. And now Liam Hicks came over from the Tigers this past off season in the rule five draft. Broken bat and Vinnie’s momentum takes him towards second base. Waka covers it first in time. Oh man, that was pretty. Basquantino made a great snare initially and a great feed to Bobby Wit Jr. and then Michael Waka hustled over to cover the first base bag. Here is Tolbert, the speedy center field there for Kansas City. Swing and a fast ball and a liner to center field. He jumped on the very first pitch not waiting around. Tolbert has the Royal second hit and he’s on with one out and now it’s back to the top of the order in India who grounded out to short his first time. Two has to wait. Throw over. Oh, that was on target. That would have gotten Tolbert, but it was a little bit offline. Wagaman might have gotten the leather to Tolbert’s right leg before he got his right hand back to the bag. Yeah, it is going to be really close. And this is a challenge here in the third inning. The field is overturned. The runners out. Miami retain the challenge. Oh, pick off for Calantro. Marlins will retain their challenge. Now there’s two outs here in the third. 3-2 pitch. That one a bouncing ball on one hop. That’s plucked by Paulie. Crossdiamond throw dug out by Wagaman. Nice play all around. Hard short hops and corner to corner. Polly to Wagman and the inning is over. Bendy popped out to second base in the first inning after the 22 that got him swinging on a high heater. And there’s two away. Lefty’s hitting just 203 against Cal. Righties hitting 371. Cal Quantrol’s rolling this afternoon. He’s got his defense to thank. Top of the fifth, nobody on, two out. Here is Fairmine who flew out back in the second. Kicks and deals and that one a call. Third strike. It might have been up and out, but Cal gets the call and through five. He’s faced one over the minimum. We’re in the bottom of the fifth inning. Kyle Sters is going to see Michael Watkins. Sters goes down and gets a change up and Tolbert got a good jump. Well, that’s a nice adjustment on his swing there. just hesitate a little bit and stay with it and not try to pull it. This kid’s hot. You can tell Liam Hicks grounded into a double play in the second inning as he sits back on a 2- two and he bounces it up the middle. India slides on the backand went in and out of his glove and Hicks is safe at first with an infield single with two out. Meyers now bounced out to short his first time up. Junior charges and throws in time. And the admires and that’s the inning. Back at Lone Depot Park, Cal Quantrol scales the hill here in the sixth. Five shut out. One two is cut on and miss. 93 up top. Tolbert swings underneath it. There are quickly two men gone. Quantrol has faced 18 hitters in five and 2/3. Quantrol trying to fire six innings. A shut out ball and the 1 is bounced to shortstop and he’s going to do it. What a start by Cal Quantrol this afternoon. And for the first time this season, Cal Quantrol is through six innings. He’s allowed two hits. He’s faced one over the minimum. Kyle has continued to transform his game. That is carved down the left field line. That’s a fair ball into the corner for Kyle Sters. He’s got himself another base knock. This is a double with two outs to the opposite field. He really hung on and stayed in on that pitch and just slapped it the other way. And now the Marlins have the bases loaded for Dane Meyers. Big moment in the ball game. Bases loaded. Two men gone and he grounds back to Shrivever. Let go Shri. Marlins can’t get any insurance. They strand of the bases loaded and we’re through seven. Salvador Perez leads off the eighth. He’s got great mechanics. Go ball deep center field. Meyers is at the wall and gone. And Salvador Perez ties it in the eighth inning. You want the polestar electric moment. This is it right off the bat. Middle 95. That’s what you do with a good easy 80% swing, folks. And now Rave is on with two down. Okay, now you rip him off. Enriquez delivers and Frasier takes low outside. Delayed steal. Ra takes off her second throw down lane and Ra safe. He puts himself in scoring position. Three balls, no strikes on Adam Frasier. And now a runner on second with two outs. And it’s outside ball four. Runners on first and second. Still two outs. And now Jonathan India comes to the plate. In the air to left field pretty deep. Sters was playing in. He’s going back with room. He says he’s got it. He does. So Kansas City strands two, but they do get the tying run across. So Ersk comes on. He immediately misses. And that’s just his 12th walk in 38 and two/3 innings. Brings up Xavier Edwards in the top of the order. Two-1 drive into right field. Make him pay. Paulie around second headed towards third. I got your time clock. A triple in the first, a double in the eighth. X stands for extra bases. We’re tied at one. Marlins have two in scoring position. So the intentional walk to Sanchez loads the bases for Otto. Lopez 0 for three today but with an RBI now has 25 runs driven in over the course of his last 23 games. The O2 in the air to left field and deep. Loftton going back looking up. It’s off the wall. Two are going to score. Marlins lead 3-1. Lopez obliterates a baseball. 108 off the bat and the two-run two bagger makes it 3-1 fish in the bottom of the eighth. That was about three feet from being a grand slam. Anthony Bender into the ball game. Bender comes on trying to close this thing out after a two-run double in the eighth from Otto Lopez. 30-year-old from Paluma, California, making his 42nd appearance on the year. He’s got a 2.01 ERA. That’s in the air but off the end of the bat to left field. Sters is there. He has just enough room. Bobby Whit Jr. is retired and there’s one away now. Bender kicks and fires a one-two swung on and it missed. Strike three. Got him. And the Marlins an out away from taking the weekend set against the Royals. That brings up Mike Garcia who’s 0 for three. Miami on the verge of its 46th win of the season as the 1-1 is chopped softly towards third. Paulie’s got it. Offbalance throw and this ball game is over. Make it four in a row for the Marlins. Cal Quantrol set the tone this afternoon and Xavier Edwards and Otto Lopez were the heroes at the plate today. So much to like about this

  1. I can't believe how hot my Marlins are right now. Crazy to think they were over 10 games under .500 not long ago, let's get that sweep tomorrow!

  2. Royals stink to high heaven.. This team is a JOKE and how they made it to the playoffs last year in anyones guess.

They also want a 1.5+ BILLION dollar new stadium (and) want the taxpayers to help pay for it. The TEAM IS NOT WORTH that much money….
