[Highlight] “For the next few minutes we gonna let the fans experience a telecast in a different way, the announcers are going to be quiet, and I know that pleases probably a lot of you listening. And you just gonna hear the sneakers, the whistle, and the coaches, and the players.”

  1. Big fan. The commentary was mostly just a basketball related podcast anyway lol.

  2. While this is awesome, we all know it’ll just be a matter of time before they start replacing the “silence” with audio adverts

  3. so much better, maybe the announcers can chime in only during a replay to provide context on the game

  4. I have no idea why this isn’t an option on League Pass already. I can listen to a Korean feed but I can’t just watch the game without some idiots blathering on about absolutely nothing?

(I mean, I know why, but it’s still annoying.)

  5. This was great. I’m not sure if possible but if they could lessen the sneaker audio and raise the speaking that would be amazing

  6. I don’t like it nearly as much, personally. It’s kind of cool from a basketball ASMR perspective, but I think quality commentary elevates most, if not all, competitive broadcasts

  7. You’re gonna hear it like you would hear it in the stadium minus the extremely loud speaker system and DJ….

    I’m not against it.

Allows some people to follow the game in its purest form.

  8. Commentary that focuses on the game being played is always welcome.  The issue is that ESPN would rather cover TMZ style gossip.  Also the constant gambling ads (which is a problem not exclusive to ESPN).

  9. This makes me miss the rail cam from the bubble. Easily the greatest alternative broadcast ever. We don’t know how good we had it.

  10. I actually like hearing announcers give context to/explain what is happening on the court and relaying their experiences and information on the players. The job is often done at a C-grade level, but I do think they are an important aspect of the viewing experience.

  11. Im sitting here like Lebowski listening to the pins being hit by the bowling ball with a big smile on his face

  12. I’d like to imagine that this wasn’t a production thing. Like the announcers saw it was a 32 point game and were like “wanna take a break” and just improv’d this.

  13. Are all redditers just miserable if they don’t have something to complain about? I think the commentary is fine and enjoy it.

  14. Ain’t no way in hell any of you would put up with those sneaker sounds for 48 minutes.

  15. When Kobe had his 81 point game, i happened to be visiting LA from Phoenix, staying in my uncle’s condo in Manhattan beach while he was out town.

Me and my friend watched the game on the only channel we found on his satellite tv service that was showing it, which happened to be an ‘alternative’ broadcast with no announcers and all of the camera work done at floor level.

We knew watching it that Kobe was going off. But we didn’t realize til later exactly how prolific his scoring had been. Was a super cool and interesting way to take in that game. Also, and idk if this has changed since then, i was struck by how little extraneous bullshit the Lakers had going on in stadium. The lights on the crowd dimmed to give the court the atmosphere of a stage and there were was no loud hip hop/edm playing and goofy sideshows during timeouts. I loved it

  16. Oh my god – can we have this audio option with NBA regular season and playoff games????

  17. I feel like being anti announcers is significant part performative enlightenment. I do agree this is nice once in a while and can be used to really highlight an atmosphere but announcers absolutely make for more incredible moments and sports wouldn’t be the same without those moments

  18. This was perfect. No talking. There was one small interruption where they explained what happened away from the basket and back to basketball. Pure.

  19. I personally like the broadcasters well atleast the local ones

The espn and mainstream ones are trash can juice

  20. The Knicks did this one time in MSG. Cut all of the music, sound effects, graphics, etc. Was really cool and I wish they’d do it more often.

  21. I would pay extra $ to have this option. Especially if you could mic up the refs, players and coaches a bit better. Refs can announce fouls etc
