Miami Dolphins Defensive Breakdown | Training Camp Preview

We’re back people. What is up? Got another little stream going on today. Going over the Miami Dolphins defense, breaking it down. Pre-training camp. We did the offensive one uh you know few days ago. Get into the defensive side of the ball. Kind of similar setup going over going to go through each position group. Kind of think how many bodies I think they’ll keep in that group. different battles that we’ll see and then like the different options I think you know mine will have depending on how training camp preseason plays out with like where they potentially want to keep an extra body cuz we did like about I think they’re going to probably keep about 25 on offense. I think the same thing defensively 25 and then you know you have the three special teams and then there’s always the the wiggle room that you can do you like they did last year they cut you know you cut your long snapper then you know you move people around someone ends up on uh you know an IR spot and then you end up moving uh the long snapper back later on but that’s just you know couple different ways that they can maneuver the roster but going over the defense which I mean mainly the biggest thing to talk about is the secondary because there’s a lot a lot of questions there. Why haven’t we heard from Minky yet? When will when will we, you think? Um, well, I think Minka is not a big social media guy. Like, he hasn’t even tweeted anything in like 2 years. And so, I don’t think we’ll hear anything until until like maybe they’re at training camp and he gets like, you know, interviewed at camp. So, I think that’s when we’ll probably hear stuff. Um, from my understanding is like I’m pretty sure like his mom had said something about it like him like excited to be back where they’re from or something. And then I know uh I think Jordan Colbear said something about like working with him and he was like you know excited. So it’s not something I’m too worried about. He’s never really said stuff on social media. So uh we’ll see if that ever gets brought up. But yeah, going through these position groups uh kind of thinking where we should start. I’m going to start with the offball linebacker group cuz I think it’s pretty pretty easy. I think the Dolphin Dolphins have kept five at one point, but I think offball linebacker pretty clear-cut. You keep these four guys. Everyone else I don’t think is worth it at this point. The only question mark is do they keep Channing Tindle? I don’t think so. I think they just keep Jordan Brooks, Terrell Dodson, Willie Gay Jr. and KJ Britt. Now the exciting sort of battle there is who ends up winning the starting spot. I think all three are going to play after Brooks. Dodson, Willie Gay Jr., KJ Britt. I think all of them have complimentary skill sets and they all kind of like, you know, weave into each other’s strengths and weaknesses. They like are all very different players actually. Uh, I’m guessing Dodson will be the starter, like the starter and like as like a true offball. And then I think Willie Gabe will play different packages. KJ Britt might play on early downs versus the run because he’s a stronger run defender than Dodson. Dodson’s better in coverage. Um, but yeah, I think that’s kind of all I’m keeping four no matter what. Like unless something surprising happens and but like this is a group where you keep four, you don’t need to keep an extra at this spot in my opinion. It’s actually a one of your it’s it’s stronger than it was last year depthwise. And then Jordan Brooks is still like a strong starter for you. Um, that’s kind of how I see it. I think you got Brooks who’s easily your best player. I think Dodson is the best like zone dropper in coverage. I think KJ Brit’s your best run stuffer. And then I think Willie Gay is like the guy that plays as like an overhang. You can blitz him. He’s more of a man cover linebacker. Not a super instinctive guy, but he if you make his uh reads easy, he can make some great plays because he’s got really good athleticism. Uh so yeah, that that group is pretty like pretty set in stone in my opinion. One of the easier groups to predict is off linebacker unless like injuries or stuff happen. Uh we can go to Edge next. Actually, let’s go to DTackle because DTackle, I think, is a little easier. Um, cuz I’m also going to keep five at DTackle. The Dolphins have typically kept five. So, I think that’s where it ends up happening. Uh, I think you, you know, Zack Celler, Kenneth Grant, Bonito Jones, Jordan Phillips, four right there that are very, very like locked in in my opinion. Then outside of that is kind of where you get your battles. Uh, I think Matthew Butler, that guy they picked up from Vegas, is an interesting one for that. fifth spot because he has a differing skill set. More of a pass rusher actually than a run defender, can play in a little more wider alignments. And if you keep guys like Bonito Jones, Jordan Phillips, even Kenneth Grant, a lot of them have experience playing as like a nose one tech. So if you want to have a guy on the depth chart that could play more of like a five tech, that could be Matthew Butler. Or they could keep Zeke Biggers, who was their their seventh round pick in this class. That’s who I think will be fighting for the fifth spot. Uh, I guess you could see a surprise from like Matt Dickerson or Ben Still cuz Still has actually seen some playing time. He played, I think, for Arizona and Tampa Bay last year. You had playing time for them. So, he’s not someone you can just completely count out. Uh, cuz he saw like similar playing time to actually Butler last year, and I think Butler’s a part of that. Uh, but up top, I feel pretty good about the starters like Grant and Cer. Seer obviously stud. We know what to expect there. And then Grant, I have high expectations for for the rookie. I think he’ll have a quality season. Uh I wouldn’t be surprised if he has a little bit of a slow start, but I I think he picks it up fairly quickly and will be more disruptive than people think cuz I I feel like people just see the like the size and the weight and expect one thing from him. But he is very explosive, very athletic. Now, I’m excited to see them work the twist and stunt game up front with with those guys. Okay, let me see what you guys are saying. Willies the nickel for sure. He’ll play he’ll definitely play in like some of those packages. Um most important part I want to see is the team get to top 10 sacks and takeaways. I think sacks is very attainable. Uh takeaways is huge cuz takeaways is an area I feel like the Dolphins have kind of struggled in recent years. Uh I feel like that’d be a huge help. Um uh forgive me. You can you repeat your pro proposed deacle group? Oh yeah. So, I think the four that I feel very confident of like being on the roster, obviously your top two are Sealer and Grant, and then I think Bonito Jones and Jordan Phillips are very likely on the roster, and that’s four. I think you keep five. And I think the other guy that’s most likely will be either Matthew Butler or Zeke Biggers. And I’m actually leaning towards Butler because of his more he has more pass rush potential. I actually think he’s a little bit different than a lot of the other types. he would be more of like a sealer backup while Bonito Jones and Jordan Phillips would be more of like a Kenneth Grant backup and Bigger would be more towards that uh Grant type of player too. So, I do think they need someone that can play a little bit wider in alignment, give you a little more pass rush on rotation. Uh wouldn’t be surprised if someone like Ben still competes as well cuz he’s had playing time in the past year. But I I think right now Sealer, Grant, Bonito Jones, Jordan Phillips, and then I’m leaning towards Butler, but you I don’t think you count out Zeke Biggers cuz, you know, he was a draft pick, very late draft pick. Uh so that should be the battle to watch. Does your DTackle group like Yeah, that’s why I’m talking about Butler cuz I think Butler gives you five tech versatility. And then Sealer can play five tech. Um I think Grant can like sparingly play five tech. I think people will be surprised how athletic he is, but yeah, I think it’s more sealer and Butler. Yeah. And you could use your DNS there. I think some of them have that capability uh if needed, but that’s kind of I think you keep five there. I think you keep four off balls, five D tackles. That’s nine bodies right there. We’re trying to get up to 25. Edge and DBs is where I think I’m going to keep an extra DB, I think. But edge is a room where like you could potentially if you do want to keep 10 DBs instead of 11, you could keep six edges cuz the edge room after your top three cuz Philips and Chub coming off an injury, you might want to, you know, be worried about that. My god, what’s happening here? Okay. Um, so they might want to keep extra bodies there. I want to keep an I probably would keep extra DBs cuz it’s the biggest question marks. Um, but let’s go to the edge room. So your top three are locked. Chub, Phillips, Chop. Very good unit. biggest problems with those three right now, particularly Phillips and Chub, is uh the injuries. I think Chub will be back to 100%. I don’t think Phillips will, but I would never count out Phillips. I think that he’s a freak of nature athlete. Um, and I think him being two years off the Achilles is bit better than being like than it being the knee. I think the Achilles is more important to being healthy uh for for edge, especially with all the bend and stuff you got to do. Um, high expectations for that group. I think Chop will have a quality season. I think Chop will be one of the best players on Miami this upcoming season. He was one of the best players on Miami last year in the second half of the season. Then this is where you get some question marks cuz right now like on our lads the the next edge is Quinton Bell listed, but Bell is not guaranteed a rush spot but he did play pretty solid for you last year out of your edge group. He’s probably your best in coverage and he gives you pretty good rundown reps. Not much as like a pure pass rusher. I think you can work him out like twist and stunts blitz him. He can also play some offball ball if needed. So that is in like special teams. So that does give Bell I think a decent chance in this fight. And then I think the other two that are like I’m really kind of pulling for are Muhammad Chimera and Grayson Murphy. Now that’s why I say you could potentially keep six edges. I think you keep either keep six edges or five. And then DB is the other spot where you either keep 10 or 11. Um and then Chimera you know he’s second year fifth rounder. Grayson Murphy has apparently been lighting it up at was at mini camp and he was showing a lot of promise before injury last year and I’m a big Grayson Murphy fan. If you go back to his UCLA film, pressure monster, he’s someone that I kind of think is a potential one of like the the sleepers like on the late end of the roster that I actually think has a chance to like be something. Um, then you have other names there like Cameron Good. I think you know Cameron Good’s time has come to an end. You got Derrick McClendon. He’s just a camp body in my opinion. Uh but I think, you know, you got six guys there that all have a potential chance for a roster spot. You could keep all six, but I think there’s a very real chance they only keep five cuz I think they’ve mostly kept five edges uh in this regime so far. But they could keep six because of the bodies and Phillips and Chub have had that injury history. Maybe they don’t want to risk it. Um, but yeah, Grayson Murphy is the next AVG. Uh, I mean, I hope so. I mean, they’re not the same player. Maybe more I think he has more pass rush than maybe AVG did early in his career, but AVG is definitely more like versatile in terms of like his coverage ability and was a really solid run defender. I’m keeping four safeties, maybe five. I think they have to keep five. They’ve usually kept four, but I think with adding Minka, I think they have to keep five. Um cuz like you have there’s like six safeties right now that you kind of want to keep. So um this is live Irving. Yeah. I also might see some time out there too. Agree. Strong tier from the kill comment an overlooked factor. Yeah, I agree. Um, right. The backup edge players have a special team advantage. Yeah, I would probably give it to Bell, right? Quinn Bell, I think, has some special teams ability. Chimera and Murphy, I don’t know if they would really give you much in that area. I’m sure they can line up out there, but I don’t think I don’t think they’re like going to be like special team studs where like that, you know, gets them a roster spot. I think they more get a roster spot like just by outperforming, you know, at the edge position. Um, but yeah, I feel good about the edge room overall. I think your top three are all very good players and I think the your next three are there’s potential to work with there and I think Bell if he’s on the roster, Bell showed pretty good ability and coverage for an edge guy and then also he can stop the run. Not much pass rush ability, but when you get to your backups at edge, you’re not expecting a crazy amount of pass rush ability. So yeah, that’s kind of where I’m at. 5D tackles, four off linebackers. DB is where things get interesting. We can we’ll just do DB as a whole cuz safety and corner. I can think there’s they’re going to go hand to hand here. Um cuz lots of bodies. Looking at safeties, right? Before the Minka trade, there was like five guys I wanted to keep. So now with Minka, there’s six potential safeties cuz you got Minka, Melofanu, Ashton Davis, you know, all three added this offseason. You have Elijah Campbell returning who like I guess Elijah Campbell could be the odd one out but like Weaver always talked highly of Campbell and he’s your best special teamamer of this unit. And then you got the two young guys with Dante Trader Jr. and Patrick McMorris. That’s six safeties. Teams typically keep four, sometimes five. Um so safety becomes really interesting now. And then you even have like guys on the back end of the roster like Jordan Colbear, John Saunders Jr. who I think are more practice squad guys. Uh, but man, that will be an interesting battle in preseason to see like who comes out at top of the young guys. Maybe the young guys even overtake one of the veterans they added this off season. Uh, I think Minka and Milfana will be your initial starters. Uh, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see plenty of rotations throughout that room. Uh, and also three safety sets. We talked about that last year. The Dolphins ran three safety sets in certain games. When the Dolphins were down on their corners, like injury-wise, they ran a lot of three safety sets in those games. And with the safety room probably being stronger than the corner room, wouldn’t be surprised to see them go that route again with more three safety sets. Weaver coming from Baltimore. They like to run it. Uh yeah. Uh but yeah, and then corner. So that’s like I think you keep five safeties, by the way. So five of those six. Also, you could still potentially keep all of them. Like we said, if they all they want to keep all six initially and maybe one of them has an injury, you keep all six. You cut your long snapper at the start. Then you can place the sixth guy on IR and then now he’s not out for season or you can put him on PUP, whatever it is, whatever injury list. Then he’s not out for season. He’s only out for a specific period of time. Then you put him there and now you have that roster but open. You bring the long snapper back. I don’t even know who the Dolphins long snapper is right now. It’s Joe Cardona. So, probably the only position I could have named. Uh, but yeah, that’s kind of something I could see happening there. They did it last year with McMorris. Mc Morris was on the initial roster. They cut uh Ferguson. They put Mc Morris on IR. Ferguson came back eventually. So, that could happen again. And then since they since I think they keep five safeties and I think they keep probably five edges instead of six, that means I’m guessing six corners. Uh, and we got a lot of them to list. This will be a fun battle. One of the more fun battles I think of this offseason. Uh, at the top you got Co. Co. is probably the most set in stone player. The corner room’s so interesting because uh I think I saw Dante tweet about it. But the corner room is so interesting because after Koh and you know probably Storm Duck as well, but even he’s part of that conversation is I’m talking about guys that could easily be starters for this team but are also guys that could be cut. That’s how really like unpredictable this corner, you know, would be this year. Cuz then after that, you got Cam Smith probably his last chance to really prove himself. I don’t really have high expectations, but it’s kind of his last chance to really prove himself lock in. Uh, you know, being a former second round pick that’s going to give him a chance. You got Ethan Bonner who’s, you know, part of that UDFA group that has stood out and has at least shown some potential. He’s a part of the battle. He could see playing time. I could see him also be on the practice squad. Like that’s how crazy this is. Uh Jason Marshall Jr., the rookie you just drafted, probably gives him a roster spot, but does he see playing time? Probably not instantly, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets it at some point. Uh then you’ve got some veterans that you added like RD Burns, Kendall Sheffield, you know, players who have at least seen playing time in the league. That could give them an advantage over the young guys. I’d rather see the young guys play at least because it’s not like I’m expecting much from Burns or Sheffield. maybe the young guys can at least surprise cuz they’re at least more unknown quantities. Uh then Isaiah Johnson, another one of the UDFAs that’s long, physical. Same with BJ Adams. Same with Ethan Robinson, another UDFA. Like the corner room is very very interesting. Um and I think they keep six. So I mean probably Duck Coo. Oh man, Duck Coo. Let’s see. Duck, Bonner, Marshall. They probably keep Cam Smith. And then the other one’s going to be like either Adams, Isaiah Johnson, or like Sheffield or Burns. One of like those four. But it could really go in any direction. Um, I see Philips going back to form in 2025. CH might be slowly recovering to form. See, I think it’s the opposite, Irving, because Chubs had more time off of injury, while Phillips is coming off two major injuries and one more recent. So, I think Phillips might take a little time to uh get up to to his form and then Chub, I think, is Chub, from my understanding, is like 100%. When Marshall Jr. balls out and training camp preseason see me, I wouldn’t be surprised. I think he’s got crazy physical talent. I think there’s some mental side of the game that he has to work on. And I also don’t like his tackling, but like he’s got some man-to-man ability, which I think a lot of these corners show pretty decent press man ability. And that’s very good. It’s very an underrated part of preseason because preseason coverages compared to normal coverages are very basic. Most teams are just running like basic cover one, basic cover three. Um they just run a lot of press manto man. Like last year, Dolphins barely ran press manto man in their regular season. Preseason, it was just Storm Duck running, you know, being in press man, Ethan Bonner being in press man, and they got to kind of show their skill set. So that could help guys like Jason Marshall Jr., BJ Adams, uh guys that have press man ability to kind of separate themselves in preeason. Um there Marshall definitely showed potential. I really look back to that 2023, I think, LSU game where he’s going against Malik Neighbors. Uh lots of impressive performances there. at safety. I feel like we have more NFL level players than we have space for. Is that fair? And who goes? Yeah, I mean I agree. I think you have six. I don’t think I think Minka is really your only top end guy. Then I think Melof Fanu is like a decent player. His more his problem more lies with injury. And then after that like Ashton Davis, Elijah Campbell, probably more depth guys, but they are clearly NFL level players. And I think Dante Trader Jr., Patrick Morris are also NFL level guys, but there’s a little more like we don’t know quite yet because they’re younger. Um, and you’re probably not keeping six safeties to be honest. Uh, so I think I I think it’s so tough to predict. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s like it just comes down to like an injury thing like last season where one of them gets injured, you put them on an an injury list, and then they end up back on the team later. like I I feel like they’ll find a way to keep all six of them. Uh whether it’s through injury, maybe one ends up on the practice squad, but either way, I wouldn’t be surprised to see all six on the roster at some point throughout the season. I think the secondary is the toughest to predict. Like ball linebacker is easy to predict. Edge and DT tackle, there’s really only like like one battle that can really happen and it’s at the end of the roster and it’s like between two guys. Um DB is just like anyone could win anything. BJ Yeah, BJ Adams and Isaiah Johnson should be fun in preseason cuz if we just let him get physical and press and what do they do when they sign a veteran corner? Well, we don’t have much cap space. They can create cap space if they wanted to. Um, if they do sign a veteran corner, that bumps off one of these guys, uh, one of, you know, the probably UDFA players. But either way, like even if these guys, I want to make it clear, if you don’t make the initial roster, like last year, like Isaiah Johnson is still in the team and fighting for a spot, but he wasn’t on the roster at all last year. He was on the practice squad like the whole season. Um, so you can still keep guys around and potentially, you know, people get elevated very easily now in the NFL. Like it’s way more likely to get elevated from the practice squad and it’s you could easily be here in the future. So they they probably think they can probably keep like if BJ Adams doesn’t make the team, they probably feel like they can get him on the practice squad, I’m guessing. Uh, unless he balls out in preseason. That’s how these guys make roster. If they ball in preeason where everyone has eyes on them, then teams become a little scared. Like, I don’t want to I don’t want to risk that. Okay, let’s see. What up, DJ Dawn? They have to sign Caler first. Yeah, they could extend like Caler or Brooks to create cap space for this season. Press man. Well, yeah, I do think they will also run more press band this season just in general. But it is something that like teams are just like, hey, just run cover one in preseason and then that helps a lot of those guys. That’s why I think Storm Duck really stood out because he was very comfortable in press man last year in preseason. Do you expect the Dolphins play a lot of cover when robber and hole and route? Um I mean I think they’re going to run more of it. I don’t think they’re going to play a lot. Most teams don’t run a lot of cover one. Like the teams that run a lot of cover one, it still ends up being like, you know, 30%. Like 30% of cover one’s like a huge amount. Um, I could see more so Robber because I think you have safeties that are comfortable robbing playing in that spot. Rat, I don’t know if you really have I don’t know if they should be putting their linebackers in that those types of positions and hope they don’t get Yeah. Yeah. Dolphins haven’t really had that problem. Like I feel like in years past I’ve always had like the worry like, “Oh no, this guy’s going to get uh claimed and then it never happens.” like it or it very rarely happens um that the guy that you want to keep gets claimed and they just end up keeping them. Like the only ones that like were I think they lost that I wanted to keep is like Elijah Higgins and that they should have never cut Elijah Higgins because of that tight end room and he was a guy that you drafted and he was a former receiver. You’re trying to, you know, move in positions and they just gave up on him. How many sacks do we have? only had 35 last year. Yeah, I’m not too worried about I don’t honestly I don’t really care what the final sack number ends up being as long as they just are getting a lot of pressure, which I expect cuz the Dolphins do a very good job of getting pressure with four. It doesn’t always need to be a sack. Like pressure is a much better indicator of pass rush success than sacks cuz sacks can be very inconsistent. Like if you’re quick pressures, by the way, like like if a if an edge defender is getting a lot of quick pressures, I would prefer like those players are playing better than guys that are getting sacks, you know, 5 seconds into plays. Like, yeah, it’s a good play, but those sacks aren’t super impressive. It’s It’s like the It’s the Miles Garrett versus TJ Watt conversation, especially last year. Like, people argue TJ Watt versus Miles Garrett, but if you watch the film, Miles Garrett is winning like that. He’s getting crazy pressured, winning quickly. While a lot of TJ Watts sacks are coming off of like other guys getting pressure and then working into him or they’re coming late and he’s making good hustle plays, you got to give him credit, but the way Miles Garrett’s making the play is more impressive. At least last season. JJ Watt’s still a great player, but he’s not what he used to be. Um, was there? Let’s see. Also saw this interesting article um from Max Max Dano on Twitter. He was talking about like the forgotten part of playing NFL quarterback, talking about processing. Uh cuz I think that’s become I feel like a lot of people just look at physical tools nowadays and physical tools, don’t get me wrong, are important cuz I think that, you know, can help separate you. I think having quarterbacks that cuz still to me processing is the most important thing. All the top quarterbacks, even though a lot of them have great physical tools, all of them are great processors. Um, and then the physical tools. Uh, cuz I think a lot of people think your mental sets your your uh floor while your athleticism sets your ceiling. Well, I’ve been kind of taught that it’s the opposite that your athleticism sets your floor and then your mental sets your ceiling. Like the processing side of the game. That’s why I’m like, if you ever do try to upgrade, you’re trying to find someone that has the whole package. Don’t just go in the complete opposite direction and go for the the crazy athletic guy. pressurers are overrated, sir. Um, no. I mean, I can tell you for a fact that’s wrong. Like, that’s not even an opinion. Like, they’re like all the top NFL people like pressure uh pass rush win rate is going to be more telling of how well a defense like of how well a pass rusher is playing than sacks. Sacks can be very misleading. Um, obviously a guy with high sack totals can still be playing great. It just depends on how you get those sacks. Um because uh I always go back to the Cam Wakeake Olivier Vernon year when Olivia Vernon had doubled digit sacks and it got him paid a lot of money with the Browns. But if you go and watch the tape like almost half of Vernon’s sacks ended up being forced from Cameron Wake and you know Wake doesn’t get credit for sacks on those plays but like he was the one who really made the impact. So that’s why you know I’m looking at how quickly you’re winning. like sacks will come if you’re getting a lot of pressures. Are you correct about like first mental? Yeah, cuz I think when you look at quarterbacks, actually a lot of athletic quarterbacks, people think it’s the opposite, but athletic quarterbacks actually usually end up playing better early on and then the guys with like the mental side of the game, like um once they catch up, then they go crazy. So, you’re telling me sacks are not more important. Um, pressures cannot take loss of yardage. I’m telling you’re Okay. So, obviously a if you’re looking at from just a play standpoint, yes, a sack is better than pressures. But if you’re looking at from a player perspective, a better way of telling how a player is playing is actually their pressure percentage than their sacks. Now, pressures can also be misleading. have to look at like their win rate, how quickly they’re getting pressures, but it’s actually a much better indicator of pass rush success than sacks are cuz sacks, if you just look at sachs, can never tell uh can never tell the full story. Now, a person with high sacks can still be playing amazing. Don’t get me wrong. It just depends on how you’re getting those sacks. But in terms of like I’m looking at it from like a player perspective because I’m do a lot of evaluation rather than uh because I’m just like player evaluation is like my main thing. I don’t really care what their sack numbers are. Uh nope. Cap for life. That’s not what I’m telling you. You always ask these questions about basically not what I said. I don’t know what Trey Hendrickson’s got to do with what we’re saying. Uh, I haven’t watched Anderson, so I don’t know how he actually was playing, but you can’t just look at a player sacks and know if they’re playing good or bad. You got to watch the film and see how they’re getting those sacks. If those sacks are on great wins, quick wins, then hell yeah. That’s why people were mad when like Miles Garrett won, I think, defensive player of the year over Watt, but if you watch film, wasn’t even that close. Uh, I mean, it’s we don’t wait. Yeah, I don’t want to do the debate. I’ve had this debate. It’s not even really a debate. Uh, it’s something I’ve seen talked about from very people who are much smarter than me. When it comes to football, it’s the same thing. Like, I mean, a lot of basic stats are overrated when it comes to like telling how a player is playing. Like, obviously touchdowns are not overrated. It’s great to have touchdowns, but just because a player has a lot of touchdowns doesn’t mean they’re playing better than a player that maybe has less touchdowns. You got to turn on the film, see how those touchdowns came to be, what’s more impressive, you know? Also, there’s certain, you know, cuz like, you know, you’re getting tush push touchdowns. Most your touchdowns are tush push touchdowns. Not as impressive guys making, you know, crazy plays out in space. Do you think he’s the best pass rusher in the league? Uh, it’s tough to say, man. I don’t feel like I’ve watched I just haven’t watched everyone to actually say that. I still think like Garrett is at the top. I know like Denil Hunter was like going crazy last year for for Houston. Um it it’s tough to say. I just haven’t watched everybody. Do you believe the Dolphins will not sign a quarterback at the beginning of training camp? I don’t know. I mean, they they’d have to create some space and I feel like I don’t know. I know. Just hasn’t been enough noise about it. What a line is out there. Honestly, I don’t know if they’re going to sign anyone at this point or fail to sign a corner at all. I don’t know. I mean, if if you guys saw that one video I made, you know, I I actually don’t really want to sign a corner cuz I don’t think any of the guys that are out there, like, yes, some of them can slightly improve the group, but I think most of them are just going to be like developmental slower. And I think uh I think you need to give the young guys as many shots as possible to see if you actually have anything there cuz I think that’s the best thing for the long term of the team. And I think longterm is kind of where they’re looking. And I don’t think short term like like adding Rizzle Douglas I don’t really think changes much short term. like he might make your group slightly better, but if you’re playing more manto man, it’s like, do I really want Rizzle Douglas be interesting to see how Yeah, Crosby’s up there too for sure in the edge rusher pass rusher group. Uh, I don’t know. I couldn’t even tell you the best pass rusher is on the Dolphins. It’s tough to say. Honestly, the pass rusher I’m probably most confident because of the lack of injuries is Chop. And Chop showed a lot last year. Even though I think Phillips is very good, but I’m kind of concerned with him. And I think Chub will be good. when Roberts is good because Brooks is good man coverage. Yeah, you could also be blitzing Brooks in those situations. Do the Ravens run a lot of press man? Uh so here’s uh with um with the whole man just man in general. If you go look at the I believe I looked at this a while ago, so I could be slightly off with the numbers, but I went and looked at what the Ravens percentage and coverage was and the Seahawks cuz the Ravens and Seahawks both run the same system as Miami. And this is a big reason why I think they’re going to run more cover one. Cover one was at like about a 10% higher rate than what Miami ran them. Uh so I think maybe Weaver just didn’t have the personnel to run as much cover one. though. I do think we will see a little more cover one this season. Not like a crazy amount more, but like it will be noticeable if you’re really watching UDFA surprise this year. Uh, honestly, I watched some Andrew Armstrong again today. I still have I wouldn’t be surprised if Andrew Armstrong like shows out in like preseason cuz sometimes with these UDFA guys, it can be hard to show in camps, but if you can really show in preseason, that’s how you make it onto these teams. Uh, and I still feel like Armstrong should have been drafted in my opinion. Uh, I think, you know, Conors has a chance in that tight end room for sure. And then I would say BJ Adams in the corner room has a chance to stand out, especially with all the man-to-man stuff we’re talking about. Let’s see. Yeah. Yeah. Max did a good job of saying, “So, in football, what does processing mean?” It’s basically your brain’s ability to make sense of what you’re seeing and tie it to a reaction. The more you have to keep track of, the harder it is because you have a very little time to do it. I’ve actually been watching more of the 2026 class recently. I know, you know, it’s all so far away and so much changes during a year, dude. Trust me, if you look at like draft lists like a year in advance before this season starts, they change so much. But I have started watching some of the 2026 QB class and it is pretty interesting. I think as of right now, I mean, I’m sure it will change after next year, but I think as of right now, I think Club Nick is probably my favorite. I haven’t watched all of them yet, but I think Club Nick is the most at least far ahead. I think a lot of them have work to do. Same with Clubnick, too. But it’s an interesting class. the the QB class next year is interesting. They all have something like I need to see them improve upon, but you know, they have a whole year to do it. Also, Darren Waller’s deal came out today, like officially it was a one-year deal worth a 2 million base salary. So, like, you know, not too much over the minimum and then you can make up to 5 million in incentives. So, can Waller block? Uh, not really. Yeah, I I especially at this point in his career, I don’t think he’s going to really give you anything as a blocker. Can Pharaoh catch? I think he can catch the ball, but like he’s not going to like get open or do a lot of stuff after the catch. I think he has, you know, fairly reliable hands, but that’s not something I I’m actually not too worried about the tight ends being involved in the passing game other than Waller. I don’t really think it gives us that much of advantage. I’m more worried about like cuz Frell Brown and Julian Hill, they’re going to be asked to make a lot of tough blocks. That is an area like they’re asked to make a lot of like like attached blocks to the line of scrimmage on outside zone where they’re on like the play side and that is tough for Titans to do. And if they are able to execute that will help out the Dolphins offense so much. So much. Waller’s more smith-like. They are so it’s weird. They’re both like big slot receivers. So, he is more Smithlike in that way, but they do have very different skill sets. Waller is more of like a field stretcher uh tight end, make plays down the field, red zone type of guy, while John is like a underneath, get the ball in his hands, yak type of f tight end. So, they are more like each other in terms of position played, but actually have like different skill sets in the receiving game. In case you missed it, 24 days until the Bears game. Oh, dude. I know. I think it’s like August 10th, right, is when the first preseason game is. And I I’ll probably maybe I’ll do like a I think last year I did live reactions to the preseason games and I didn’t do it for the regular season. I’ll probably do it for the preseason again. We’ll see. Um but I’m so excited to just get new film. Waller’s more like Gaseki than he’s like. Yeah, he’s not as like Yeah, they’re a little bit different, but he is more like Gaseki. They’re not one to ones. Like Waller is stronger than Gaseki. He won’t just go down instantly. Like Gaseki has no yak ability. Um Waller can get at least a little bit of Yak. Nothing crazy, but they are. Yeah, they’re more like same field stretcher guys for sure. Um but yeah, I’m so excited for preseason. Just new film to watch. And it’s not like, you know, the preseason is, you know, super valuable in terms of like learning a ton of stuff, but I still think there’s takeaways you can have from the preseason games and you can find people and people can stand out. Uh, and it’s just very fun to see a lot of the young guys in action. So, I will definitely be doing a lot of film breakdowns in 24 days. Once that happens, there will be film breakdowns almost every day because there will be like three. We’ll have all the preseason games and then we’ll get to regular season and I will have, you know, lots of that going on. Any reports from the rookie training camp? I haven’t seen anything. We have like the rookies reported yesterday and we have not heard anything. I didn’t hear of John or you know Jonah was there because I think some people are worried if Jonah was because he still hasn’t signed. I’m not too worried about that. I think, you know, 30 of the 32 second round picks haven’t signed. So, does Conors have a chance to be on the 53? Yeah, for sure. Uh, I mean, it’s not I would still say it’s like kind of low, but out of the UDFAs, I would say he has one of the better chance of of making it. I just think there’s a decent chance they only carry three tight ends this year. And if they only carry three, that could hurt him. I think if they carry four, that gives him a very solid chance. Um, and they’ve kept four before, so you know. Yeah, Ruchi. Yeah, he Ruchcci has I’m not I don’t think I’m as high on Ruchi as some other people, but yeah, he he has a chance to fight, too. I mean, that title room is all up for grabs. Um, so I don’t know if you guys been seeing like these ESPN lists where like executives, coaches, scouts ranks like top 10 at each position. And you know, most of it I actually don’t some of it’s fine, some of it’s you know, not that great. Like I feel like, you know, a lot of these people aren’t actually watching all of these players. They’re kind of going off some preconceived notions they have of them. I think the only one that like really pissed me off cuz I I’ve seen some people be like mad about achan or sealer. I think at least with a chan and sealer, the the guys above them are also very good. So, I was fine with that. Uh some of the other groups, yeah, I was fine. I think the one that really annoyed me was Jordan Brooks in the linebacker group cuz not only was he not top 10, which I think is fine if he didn’t make top 10, but like he didn’t even make like some of the guys in top 10 were not deserving, but he didn’t even make honorable mention and they put like 10 guys in honorable mention. And then he was in the also receiving votes section down at the bottom. So they had like 20 plus linebackers above him and I’m like, dude, I don’t think people were watching Jordan Brooks last year. The disrespect If you had to predict to his stats, assuming he played 17 games, what would you say? Uh, hold on. Let me Let’s Let’s look at his stats from when he played 17 games. It’ll be a good uh pretty good line. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s that different. Uh, that’s not telling me. Okay. So, yeah, I would say honestly it would probably be pretty similar to the 2023 line. Probably in that four 4,500 yard range, maybe a little bit less. I wouldn’t be surprised he has less yards than he had in 2023 cuz 2023, I believe, was the year he led the league in yards, passing yards. I wouldn’t be surprised he has more passing touchdowns cuz he only had 29 that year, but the Dolphins had like I think they were tied for the most rushing touchdowns. Like Moser had 20 and a lot of those were one yard rushing touchdowns. So that variation can change very easily. Uh he had 14 interceptions. I’d imagine it’s probably around there. you know, I’ll say like, you know, yeah, four 4,200 pass yards, 31 touchdowns, 13 interceptions, something like that. 68% completion percentage. What did he have this year? Yeah, 69. What did he have last year? It was too high. No, last year, honestly, if his completion percentage, he had almost 73 last year. I’d say less than 10 interceptions. Nah, I think they’re going to be more aggressive. So, um cuz last year, Tua had a 72.9 completion percentage. I actually think it’s a bad thing if Tua has that high of a completion percentage again cuz he almost broke the completion percentage record and I think that’s because of how short they were throwing underneath. Like, I don’t want that. I actually want his completion percentage to be a little bit lower than that because that means he’ll be probably throwing the ball down the field. his air yards needs to elevate. Uh, and that’s more towards the 2022 and 2023 seasons. And I think the way that happens is more so the running game. And if your running game’s going, that should help your play action game. And that should help your O line in pass pro. And that should allow you to have more long developing routes. Um, and I also think maybe letting Janu go is more at least shows that I think they want to go back towards more that where they’re pushing the ball down the field. And if you push the ball more down the field, your interception number should rise a bit. Uh that’s just, you know, the nature of playing the position. It takes rookie guard spot if he holds out longer than expected. Well, I don’t even know if he’s holding out. I know he hasn’t been signed yet, but that doesn’t mean he’s holding out. Um, but I would guess Iberg would technically be your starter because Iberg has a uh just because he has the early experience and understands the scheme. Um, not that I want that. Who the tit may be the hardest predict in my opinion. Yeah, it’s up there for sure. Um, I think it’s up there with the DB room because like as we said like especially because it’s one of those positions where actually I don’t know I think corner and safety are harder to predict in terms of like starter and even who makes the roster and then tight end like I think the back end of the roster is tough to predict but I do still think the top end of the roster will just be Darren Waller as your F tight end and I think Frell Brown and Julian Hill will be like your both of your Y tight ends similar to what you know Waller will will take the Janu role you know different players but he’ll play that spot Brown will take the Durham Smite role and then Julian Hill I still believe will play what Julian Hill did last year um and then so I think it might just be that easy but then the other bottom guys could you know potentially elevate but the Dolphins love Julian Hill more than most of us so I think yeah couple these like ball linebacker super easy to predict D tackle edge is mostly easy to predict. Maybe the end is a little bit end of the receiver room is interesting. Running back isn’t any like running back could just be pretty basic too. Golf was 46 under 72 completion percentage 37 touchdowns. Yeah, but they also Yeah, that was be they also have like the best run game in the NFL and elite play action passing game. Um, I don’t know if the Dolphins will have the best running game, you know, like that consistently at least. But I do agree it’s not crazy. It’s not undoable cuz like, you know, Do’s good, but he’s not elite. But yeah. Oh yeah. Leave leave a like, comment, subscribe, all that good stuff. Join as a member if you want early access. I’ll be having a lot of videos out cuz when preseason happens, I’ll have my one video and I’ll get it out as quick as possible. But then all the rest of the videos, I’m going probably make them all right away. And so those will be out early for, you know, all the members and then they’ll come out throughout the week. We’re going to have a lot of them because we have a bigger rookie class this year. This is the biggest rookie class in McDaniel’s time period. So more players break down there. You still got the UDFAS that will get a lot of playing time and then even some other R like young guys, second year guys that are fighting for spots. Those are we’ll be like paying attention to. Yeah. Any any questions? That’s the entire defensive room. I think 11 DBs, four offball linebackers, five edge, 5D tackle. That gets you to 25, right? Yeah, you got Minka deep or robber. Depends who other the other safety is, but I actually think Mink is better playing in like the robber role. It gets him more involved. You know, I think if he’s on the field with like Ashton Davis, you make him the robber and then you make Ashton play single high. Uh but if it’s Melofanu, you probably don’t want Melofanu deep. But yeah, he he’ll yeah, he will play both for sure. Center position intrigues me. Uh yeah, the backup pos could be a fight I think between Meer and uh West. I just think the running game comes down to health of the O line. I think if your five guys stay health like relatively healthy for most of the season, you’ll have a pretty good run game. If you lose more than one for like a pretty big period of time, they will suff it will suffer. The tight ends and fullback also have to improve from last year cuz that was that’s an underrated part cuz everyone kind of just focuses on O line and yes, they needed to be better, but the tight ends and fullbacks and also the running backs cuz the running backs left plays on the field as well. But I think if it’s blocked up better, the running backs will just obviously improve. But I think fullback and tight ends were a big problem on in a lot of situations. I don’t think it has to be top five. No, it just needs to be good enough to where teams have to respect and like it’s, you know, you’re not uh super predictable. You could have a play action game. It doesn’t need to go crazy every game. Let’s say that. Cuz there’s times where like you can go there’s games, I’m sure, where they’ll throw the ball a ton. I’m sure there’ll be games where they run the ball a ton. It’s just about situational full situational play calling. I think for Mike only once the McDers the whole starting line played the whole game. Yeah. Yeah. If you go back to 2023, the 2023 is such a funny funny year cuz your offense was so good, but the only game that they played together, the starting five that you were going to have the starting five from like your like off season, the only game they played together was the 70 point Broncos game. So sad [Music] it won’t be top five with the C line. Um, I think it it has a chance if it’s uh if they stay healthy cuz even though like I wouldn’t say that the Dolphins O line is like top five talent-wise, they weren’t top five talent-wise in 2023 either, but they still had the number one running game in terms of uh yards per carry and that’s was a big part of due to scheme. The scheme is very friendly. you can sometimes it’s less about like if having like super high-end talent and sometimes about how your players fit into your system and then how everyone else fits in around it. I actually think the running game, if your O line is healthy, I think the running B game actually would be held more back from the tight ends and fullback potentially cuz Engles has been he was hit or miss last year. The Dolphins run game was at its best in that Patriots game and that’s when Engled went crazy. The Engles had like his far and away his best game that season, the 70 point game. [Music] Yep. That’s why we need the running. The running game will open up everybody. Tyreek Waddle. Cuz I feel like people think Tyreek and Waddle are like there there’s definitely like a recency bias thing where like I think people think like Reek and Waddle are not as good as they used to be, which I actually don’t think is the case. Like I think Wadd is just as good as he’s always been. And then I think Tyreek like maybe Reek could see like a slight drop off, but if you watch him like he’s I think the reason you saw Reek and W’s stats drop off was more to do with outside factors like to his injuries, the the O line, you know, not allowing you to push the ball down the field. Uh more so than like Rican W getting worse. Dolphins have not been healthy. Oh yeah. Oh man. I don’t I don’t expect the Dolphins to stay healthy. I just think there’s certain positions and groups you need to stay healthy more than other. It’s funny cuz the one season Tua played uh every game was 2023, but that was uh that was the one year it was the one year everyone else got injured. Like they were so injured. Remember our edge group going into the playoff game? That was insane. And then also like your O line was missing like three of the five starters for majority of the season. But I think if your O line and QB stay healthy, that’s the most important. I think the other groups can afford more so some injuries to still be effective if those if like Tua and the O line is healthy. I still think you could find success offensively even if you were missing like a receiver because we saw like Tyreek has not missed like really much time being in Miami. But like the one time Tyreek missed a game, the Dolphins didn’t really fall off cuz you know, Tua was playing, the O line played a good game, and then Waddle took over. You know, like I think the Dolphins can survive games without like a Tyreek and Waddle, but they can’t really survive without their O line and uh and your quarterback. And then obviously defensively, they’ve struggled with injuries as well as we’ve seen. I don’t know. I got a big Waddle year this time. I think Wadd looking at the team Waddle’s going to have a big year. I think Malik Washington, Nick Westbrook, Akin will have quality roles. Maybe not big statistical years, but I think they will be important to the offense. I think we’re going to see a Jaylen Wright breakout. Chop will be one of the best defensive players on the team and just one of the best players on the team in general. I think Grant will start a little bit slow, similar similar to Chop, but then we’ll have a strong finish. Uh, and then DBwise, I don’t know. I think the Dolphins should give Ethan Bonner a shot. That’s my advice. And then I would start with the veterans three safety group of Minka, Melofondo and Ashen Davis because if you have Ashen Davis out there, he can play single high and that will allow Melofondo and Minka to use that versatility more. And then if they start to not play that well like you know Melofon or Ashen Davis, then you rotate in some of those young guys and see what you got. If the Dolphins start losing games, see what you got in the young guys cuz that will be very helpful going into the future season seasons because the Dolphins will have question marks at a lot of spots after this year like same spots that they will have but then they’re also probably going to, you know, get rid of Tyreek so they’ll have another question at receiver. You still have questions at tight end. You know, you’ll have questions at in the secondary for sure. You might want to upgrade at your second linebacker spot. So give yourself as many possibil opportunities as possible with those guys and see like oh is this guy really something that we can rely on in future seasons. I take us with all these team yards wouldn’t be surprised. Um, and honestly I hope so. Like, you know, obviously I’m rooting for the Dolphins to win, but like if the Dolphins don’t have a great season, like then, you know, individually, I hope Wadd has a great se like there’s certain like individual players that I’m hoping have like really good seasons just cuz I feel like they deserve that respect, you know, and Wadd is one of those players that I think really deserves the respect from not just Dolphins fans, but like fans around the league. Jordan Phillips under Wever, your thoughts? I’m a big Jordan Phillips is one of my favorite draft picks. It’s always tough to say if a fifth round pick will be like super productive, but I think he’s going to be part of the rotation and he’s going to be like a strong run defender for you pretty quickly. Like I would probably play Jordan Phillips over Bonito Jones, but you know, maybe they don’t get up to it right away. Could have had McDuffy on a rookie contract. I love McDuffy, man. McDuffy is one of the first players I ever made a film breakdown on. I think it’s like my third or fourth video made on this channel. Trump McDuffy Back at Washington. One of my favorite draft prospects ever. Yeah. Cool. Any any final questions? cuz I think that was everything I wanted to talk about. I don’t know why I got here’s a just a random kid club Nick clip 2026 action. Horrible quality. Good throw though. I do like club Nick there. 2026 class. This is interesting. What else did I talk about? Oh yeah, training camp that’s open to the media starts 7:26. Dolphins fully report next week. So, or it’s open not just to the it’s open to everybody fans. I think training camp will start next week on like the 22nd or something like that. Hopefully, we get updates right away. Like the media is there and we can get updates uh even before the fans are there. When are we doing the offense? Oh, I did the offense a few days ago. I did them first on stream. I can go over it quick. Offense, three quarterbacks. Tua, Wilson, yours. Uh, my hope is they keep three running backs and your fullback cuz in the past they kept four running backs and a fullback. I think they should only keep Aan, Jaylen Wright, and Olly Gordon, sorry, Alexander Madison. Uh, and they keep Engled. Tight end. Tight end is one of the positions. If you do that, you could potentially keep four because I think you keep nine line. You got Paul Daniels, Brewer, Savianayiah, Jackson, and then you keep Kon Smith, Andrew Meyer, and then I think they keep Larry Borham and Liam Iikenberg. That’s nine. Um, and then I think a receiver, I wouldn’t be surprised if they kept five. Just Wadd, Tyreek, Malik, Nick Whisper, Keen, and then I think that fist spot could go to so many different people. Like it go to Taj, it could go to Esgridge, you could go to Theoise Jr., you could go to Andrew Armstrong. And then if you do that, like you keep five receivers, you keep uh n line, that puts you at 14 plus three quarterbacks at 17. Then we got four at the running back position, including a fullback. Uh that puts you at 21. And that would allow you to keep four tight ends, which would be Waller, Brown, Julian Hill, and then like a Jaylen Coners. Um, we need coach John Gruden time. That’s a big no for me. Ma still silence about the trade. Does Ray? Uh, no. Um, he’s just not on social media. And I feel like I’ve heard enough from other people now to be like he’s fine, but you know, maybe he’s not, but we haven’t heard anything reported negatively. So, I’m not going to worry about that until it maybe comes up. Will we be able to keep coach Weaver out for the season? Uh, I think there’s still a decent chance of that, but if the Dolphins are good, then yeah, he there’s a decent chance he’s gone. But also, if the Dolphins are bad, he could also end up being becoming the head coach. One last thing, does Kan exist still exist? He’s on the roster. I don’t think he makes it. I think his time is done. I think Ezukana and Tindle’s time are done. I think for players that you draft, you usually got like a three-year rule and they’re on to year four. Yeah, I think uh that is it. Yeah. Okay. Uh, thank you guys for watching.

  1. Sacks are a big play. No doubt. However great pass rushers create the sacks. If they don’t get the QB the QB runs into someone else avoiding the great pressure guy and they get the sack but they happened to be right place right time. Pass rushers also disrupt the play more often than sacks. Bill Belichick even said he games plan pressure not sacks. Good pass rushers create pressure which also creates turnovers if your DBs and LBs are in the right position.

  2. What about Asante? He is a STs guy too and plays downhill as an off ball LBer. I think he is bigger and faster than the safeties that are competing for that last roster spot and is likely better on STs. I think he will stand out more in practice once pads come on. Plus, I think with QBs like Allen and Fields in the division plus the running QBs like Lamar, Daniels that they play during the season, I think he will be great as a spy. What do you think his chance of making the team are?

  3. In 2023 4 of the top 5 snap takers on OL were backups. Liam, Jones, Lamm and Cotton. Yuck!!! That was an NFL record. And the national media never talked about it. They only say the NFL figured out the offense. That is SOOOO bogus.

  4. I tried to tell these people I know football. I’ve been watching this game when Dan Marino was on every Sunday Tua a top five quarterback skill, wise, knowing the position wise

  5. I would like to see you do a Jason Taylor film breakdown. I remember thinking how odd his bodytype was at the time for an edge. I really think he changed the game for edge

  6. Hey Ryder, watching the next day. Thanks for taking Questions. I can't wait to hear who this camp battle between the CBs and Safeties. I so hope, it's a "Cornerback and Safety Camp from Hell", to really get solid players for the now and future. May not get a top starter, but, with the pressure the front will put on offenses, this secondary, does not have to be Pro Bowl NOR even Great or Above Average talent Good. They just have to be good enough, which is usually average talent. And that is fine. This youth movement is a Coach's dream, to develop guys to what they want to do to. So happy the Fins have Coach Weaver. The obvious….If Coach Weaver has a good unit, then hope him and his staff get extensions. Consistency is huge here. Fins Up!
