We’re going to start making you some money and it’s going to start here with this matchup between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Los Angeles Angels from Citizens Bank Park for the Phillies. You’ve got Ranger Suarez listed as the starter in this one. While the Angels will counter with Jose Soraniano and Ranger Suarez in this starting coming off of, you know, I don’t want to say a bad start because it wasn’t a bad start by any stretch, but it was a bad start by his standards considering it was just the second time since opening day where Suarez had allowed three runs in a start and the first since May 16th. He’d been on a nice run of form where he was going six, seven innings, giving up two runs or less, and then gave up three runs on seven hits. also had three walks against the San Diego Padres’s on the road in what ended up being a 4-2 loss for the Philadelphia Phillies in that start, but like I said, by no means was it a bad start for Rangers Suarez in that outing. I think that he could get back on track here against an Angel’s offense that I’m really not all that, you know, impressed with, especially when you look at their numbers against left-handed pitching in the month of July. So far, they’re not terrible. They’re hitting 252. Their isolated power numbers are around league average. The team OPS numbers are actually just outside the top 10, but they have a 29.7% strikeout rate, which is among the five highest in baseball in the month of July so far. And while Suarez is not necessarily a strikeout dependent starting pitcher, he can rack him up at, you know, when called upon. And I still think that he is a solid option, probably one of the best lefties in not just the National League, maybe one of the best lefties in baseball. and I think he could have a strong outing here against this Angels lineup. On the other side though, you do have Jose Soraniano who, you know, has had his fair share of issues this season. I think that goes without question. But the thing for me with with Jose Soraniano is that you look at his his split and the split for Jose Soraniano to see where he has struggled has been fairly evident and it’s been fairly I want to say easy to pick out, but I mean that’s kind of the only way I can label it. his last three home starts, Soraniano has allowed a combined 18 runs, 14 earned over 13 innings of work. But you look at his last two uh road starts, basically over his last seven outings. When on the road to Atlanta, seven innings of three hit shutout ball, seven strikeouts at Yankee Stadium, seven innings of six hit, shutout baseball, six strikeouts. The home and road split the entire season for Jose Soraniano has been at home one and one and five on the year, a 5.65 erra, 279 opponents batting average across 10 starts while the road 5-2 a 2.47 erra and a 239 opponent’s batting average. So clearly better for Soraniano on the road. Now, you know, the Phillies have been a lot better against right-handed pitching than they’ve been against lefties for much of the season. And in the month of July, and I mean, if you look at their numbers in the month of July, they’re still top 10 in batting, average, hitting 254. But I think Soraniano can have a decent enough start here. I think that the Phillies, obviously back behind Ranger Suarez, can have a decent enough outing. And, you know, I think this is just going to be a low-scoring game through the first five. I think the bullpens could potentially break this game open. I think Philly’s bullpen RA in July of 3.03 in terms of what this bullpen is, you know, more likely to do on a consistent basis. I think it’s unsustainable and the Angels a 4.38 bullpen erra in July. Not necessarily where I want to see this team be. So I’d rather just isolate it to the first five, go with what I feel is just the more stable option, you know, tossing pitches here. So and that’s the starters on both sides. So, give me the under in the first five between at the Phillies and the Angels, and that’s going to be my free pick.
