Cardinals vs. D-backs Game Highlights (7/20/25) | MLB Highlights
After getting lost in the desert. The first two games, the Cardinals try to find their way and salvage a game in Arizona and good for the Diamondbacks. This team knew you got to put your foot on the pedal and that’s one thing to say it, but they have done it in these first two games. You really can’t draw that much better. Merrill has really been good on his last two starts. 12 innings pitched only two runs allowed on five hits and for watching this Cardinals offense , they’ve had a lot of trouble with velocity. So be careful with your off speed pitches in the strike zone , stay high and Donovan is retired to start game one up. One down. Avon Herrera is two for nine in the series eight homers 36 driven in for him swinging a ground ball left side. Suarez sliding to his left now, back to his feet throws Lowe, but there’s Naylor with a backhand pick and some nice corner to corner defense for the second out of the inning, but it will be a two out walk and that will bring up Contreras. There’s that shot to right for Contreras two strike. Not nice approach. And the inning continues with two aboard and two out. I love when Wilson Contreras does this. He has this in his toolbox going the way Nolan Arenado. He’s one for seven in the series. Reached for that is poked in a shallow center field. Thomas with a wonderful read makes the catch and that’s going to do it for the Cardinals. Here in the top of the first, it looked like the threat was going to yield a run but Thomas took it away. Miles Michael is to the mound for the Cardinals. He last pitched July 10th. He pitched against the Nationals market. He pitched very well. Today is quality strikes. He’s going to have to use everything. Don’t double up. Carroll leads off the bottom of the first with a high fly ball down the right field line. This is falling fast and that is going to be a fair ball lands past walker two triples yesterday. Here he is for third and a triple to start his Sunday. What a player Corbin Carroll continues to be might as well just start the game with Corbin at third base yesterday. Three hits, he tripled twice and he’s got his 13th triple of the season. That’s a blue triple. If there is such a thing, pitch was off the inside part of the plate just able to keep it fair down the right field line. And Jake mccarthy who gets his first start of the series, the golden to put the D on the board. So the infield is in after the first pitch and it is to jake mccarthy grounds it to first and that’s handled by Contreras who makes the play mccarthy not able to drive him in. Here’s Geraldo Perdomo who suddenly has become a big RB I man in this lineup, breaking ball grounded to second. Carroll is going to try and score. Donovan has it. Throws home late. Carroll slides in safely RB I fielder’s choice one. Diamondbacks tapper to the right side gets to it in good shape. Corbin outruns the throw to home plate that time for the third straight game against ST Louis strike first and there’s a walk runners at 1st and 2nd. Now still only one out and now he’s got to contend with a Eugenio Suarez. There goes another one. It’s Geno, we’re watching something special with Geno Suarez this year 425. He is inevitable in this diamondback lineup and a 4 to 0 1st inning lead for the Diamondbacks. That’s eight home runs in 14 games for Suarez throw in 15 Army eyes over that stretch. Here’s Jordan Walker the right fielder. He threw him a 3 to 2 changeup here. Faithful walker has got a lot of swing and Miss we were saying, well, he tried to just as good a quick 123 shut down second for Merrill, the mainstay who leads it four to zero. Top of the third inning. We go. Victor scott stands in and he shoots this one into the right field. The corner Carroll has got some work to do that will bounce off the fence. Victor on his way to second and he’s going to stop there. 11 doubles for victor scott, that’s the second Cardinals hit and that’s a good way to start. Inning. Number three, he stays on a breaking ball. This has been important because Victor Scott has got a huge allotment of breaking balls. Victor takes off and the throw to third is way off target and the second is still in his 25th base. And the Cardinals now with a fly ball or ground ball and get themselves on the scoreboard and now the 1 to 2 swing and a miss , he struck him out and that brings up Iv-n Herrera herrera in case you’re wondering, the runners in scoring position is hitting 400. This one on the ground deep short and for a base hit, herrera gets the Cardinals first run on a single to left. Victor scott scores Herrera’s 37 RB I. This is the reason why you absolutely love what I Herrera has done this year RB I situations you got to have to capital and shorten your swing to get that stroke. Alec Burleson stands in Burle Drew a walk his first time up, swung on ground ball to third. Suarez quickly over to perdomo. There’s one his throw to first. That’s two. It’s not often you see the 563 turn, double play, the D backs turn it wonderfully and the Cardinals settle for 184 RBS at the moment is the major league lead. Suarez has after his three run shot in the first inning and Suarez goes after this pitch, it’s another bump to left and it’s on its way. It’s gone a wall scraper into the bullpen in a second consecutive multi home run game. And Suarez’s magical second half continues, man on fire. It’s five to one. Talk about a hitter that’s locked in. He’s hit everything anybody has thrown to him, sinkers in four seamers away, breaking balls down. He’s hit everything right on the barrel, two home runs and two at bats to back walk, start off the fifth. It’s going to prompt a mound visit. Surprising too never threw a pitch that was close enough to the strike zone to garner a swing now with 1st and 2nd and nobody out. Victor Scott who doubled his first time up pitch number eight coming and he takes ball 43 straight walks, load things up for ST Louis and now we’re in business, Donovan herrera and Burleson coming up, Brian Kaplan is going to have to get out there and figure something out. Merrill Kelly through the first four innings, only walked one batter but suddenly almost out of nowhere with a 5 to 1 lead. He’s walked the 78 and nine hitters to start the Cardinal fifth Donovan at the plate bases full of Cardinals. And the next delivery to Donovan is grounded to the right side and the play is made by Naylor and he’s going to take it to first base, but the Cardinals pick up a run on the infield ground out by Donovan Poso scores and it’s 5 to 2 Arizona and I’ll take that because he’s moved the other two runners in scoring. And with Herrera who loves these opportunities, he finally went to a breaking ball. It’s all four seamers sinkers cutters that time. He chased the slider and there’s two outs grounded to first got it. Mel Kelly walks the first three in the inning and only one scores. It’s 5 to 2. Suarez leads off the bottom of the sixth inning against new pitcher Riley o’brien for the Cardinals on the ground to short Mason takes care of Suarez for out number one in the sixth and a good start for Riley o’brien. 3 to 2 delivery is swung on and missed. He went outside and it must have seemed like it was 150 miles an hour previous pitch was in, exposes him to the outside fastball. 99 strike three outside corner at 98. That was impressive. Del Castillo and Alexander are down on strikes. Now, two down for Corbett Carroll one to carroll, he swings hits it off the end of the bat. That’s a fair ball rolling down the third base line and Renato is able to cut it off and Then just guide one to first. But for Carroll it’s an infield hit, it’s his second hit of the game and it’s at least going to keep things going for a pinch hitter. And Randall there goes, Corvin Carroll throw from Pozo Corin’s in there. Number 12 RB I chance for to the left side. Mason slide fires a rocket and the scoop in time. What a play mason wins, saves a run with a great play short and a terrific handled by Contreras keeps it 5 to 2. Alec Burleson who has walked into a double play and grounded out. There’s a ground ball right side , that’s a base hit. So the Cardinals not done here in the eighth inning as they are running out of opportunities here to avoid being swept. Today is aboard for Wilson Contreras swing and a foul tip. He struck him out Diamondbacks lead the Cardinals 5 to 2. Here we go, Jordan Walker, the last hope for the Cardinals trying to get that tying run at the plate. And the pitch to Jay walk is hit hard to left field and that’s deep towards the corner and it is off the wall win is going to score from first base walker in the second. And the Cardinals pick up a run here in the ninth inning of the RB I double for Jordan Walker. His second hit of the game. He’s been on base three straight. It’s a 5 to 3 game tying run comes to the plate. You got to be careful about scott. He’s shown some pop in this series and scott lifts it out to right center Corbin Carroll on the move, but he’s got it. And the Diamondbacks have got the three game sweep and 100 games into the season. They are 5050 great series for the Diamondbacks offensively on the mound defensively, they did everything they had to do to sneak up on the Cardinals ahead of them in the wild card race.

Walker is pathetic !
スアレスさん流石です✨️
Geno-RUUUUNNNNNNNN!!!!!💪💪💪💪
Go Cards!!!
The D-backs never trailed even once in this entire series. They always scored first, in the bottom of the first or second inning (once in both), and we scored at least one run in each of the third innings.
First inning troubles for the Cardinals again cost them again 😢.
The Dbacks complete the sweep to the Cardinals.
Mozeliak saying they're gonna add at the deadline and the club cant beat a now .500 team. Idk maybe they get hot but the teams ahead of them are really running away
Why is Mikolas in the rotation? Cards pitching needs huge overhaul!
Cardinals season over facts.
I guarantee he don’t do this next year
SUAREZ WOULD LOOK GOOD IN A BREWERS UNIFORM !!
Dont trade geno
Geno so good if Dbacks go on a run they won’t sell
MLB is a joke. They make a highlight for Ohtani for back to back HR’s but Suarez did it too but also had 2 HR’s in each game. Suarez has more HR’s and 85 RBI’s compared to Ohtani’s 65 but no mention from MLB because they will lose the bandwagon fans
Why is mikolas still on the team?!
Yeah dont
Wow cards have no pitching
Aura farmars
Why didn’t Riley pitch at least 2 innings
켈리 화이팅 대한민국 에서 응원 합니다. ❤❤❤
The ball is undeniably juiced
Please don’t trade Geno
Man, these Cardinals are convincingly horrific.
