Ter Scooble starts the game for the Detroit Tigers and all is well in the world. The Tigers end the losing streak. Welcome into a live locked on Tigers postcast. I am your host Jake Reema. You can follow me on Twitter, Jake_Rma. Tigers win this one, avoid the sweep 2-1 the final. We’ll break it all down. And as always, this is the live locked on Tigers Post, your destination for all things Detroit Tigers. Free and available wherever you get your podcast and of course on YouTube. It’s all part of the Lockdown Podcast Network, your team each and every day. How about Terk Scoo making some Tiger history? We will discuss that. But AJ Hinch the quick hook taking TK Scubble out of the game. I’ve got a problem with it. We’ll break that down as well. But at the end of the day, the Tigers best record in baseball. First team to 60 wins at the 100 game mark. That sounds pretty good. As always, we’ll have our biggest talking point, our turning point, and our player of the game. So, buckle up, dial it in. Your comments are welcome. And let’s get it going. Of course, I was at the ball game at Globe Life Field taking it all in. So that would explain the amount of time that elapsed before we could go live on the Lockdown Tigers post. So appreciate your patience. If you’re catching the audio only version, disregard that. But was in the building to watch TKO and what do you know? He had it once again. It’s another start. Another start for TKO with 10 plus strikeouts without a walk. How about that? He passes Justin Berlander for the most of those types of performances in Tiger history. And as always, TKO, I shouldn’t say as always, but more often than not, Terubble is what we’re talking about. This is what you’ll be talking about. We are so lucky that we get to witness Teroo’s greatness day in and day out and every fifth start. And I was talking with a couple of people about is is he do you make find a way to make him a Tiger for life? And I think we can all agree with that. And you I know the Dodgers and I heard I saw on Twitter the ESPN broadcast talking about Scooble as a future Dodger, future Yankee, whatever it may be. But man, in a Tigers uniform, they’re Terrace School’s making the case to be one of the best ever. So again, it’s his seventh career start with 10 plus strikeouts and no walks. That breaks a tie with Justin Verlander for the most in Tigers history. He had it once again tonight. Finishes six and two/3, four hits, one run. One earned run. And that’s what we’re talking about because I’ve got an issue. I’ve got a problem with AJ Hinch removing the best pitcher on the planet in the most high leverage pivotal situation with runners at the corners in the seventh inning. That TK is the guy that got you there. Terrick Scooel is the reason the Tigers won this game. He’s the reason they were up one- nothing. And no disrespect to Tyler Holton who’s been good as of late. But bringing in an arm from the bullpen from a Tigers bullpen top to bottom with the exception of Will Vest is objectively not good. and taking the ball out of Terrick Scubal’s hand and allowing allowing the Rangers to get back into it, albeit on a wild pitch. Kind of a fluky play there, but nonetheless, and you can say revision is history, hindsight’s 2020, whatever you want it is, but I’m going to simplify it. Keep the ball in the best pitcher in the planet’s hand. It was 105 pitches. He’s going up against the portion of the Rangers lineups that’s just minor league players and guys that have no business being in the batters box against TK Scubble. So to take him out in that juncture of the game was overmanaging. I call it malpractice. I call it an egregious mistake. And I know the Tigers go on to win this game and the offense bails AJ Hinch out. But I am will be I will stand on business when I’m wrong. I will be fully accountable. Hand up if I say the wrong thing. And when you talk for, you know, a 30 minute show or whatever it is consistently, I’m gonna have some bad takes. But this is a plant the flag type of opinion for me that it was objectively the wrong decision to take Scooball out of this game. And I would have said the same thing if Tyler Holton got out of that seventh inning because you have a better chance with Terco at 105 pitches of getting out of that inning without any damage than you do going to the bullpen. So let me know what you think in the comments. But that’s the biggest talking point from this one. And again, I know the Tigers find a way to come away with the victory and we’ll take that. But man, mark this down. I will I will debate anybody that that was the wrong move to take TKO out of the game at that particular point at 105 pitches for what he brings to this team. And the fact that uh you look at this this Rangers lineup and with the exception of Cory Seager, Marcus Simeon and um obviously Adoulles Garcia and Hagashi, the rest of this lineup, Wyatt Langford’s really struggled. But at that particular point in the seventh inning with TKO at 105 pitches, runners at first and third with two outs and you take out TKO after um after he gets the strike out on Jonah to Cody Freeman. Cody Freeman who is just called up from the minor leagues. I mean, it’s a minor leager that you are giving the ball to Tyler Holton against as opposed to TK Scubble. So, that’s my biggest talking point. Again, I know the Tigers won and Scoo was dominant, but man, I was I was going nuts. I was losing it right there at Globe Life Field. And I will say uh anyone that wants to debate me, that that’s fine. And again, it’s all that matters is the Tigers got the one. And if you want to defend AJ Hinch, that’s totally cool. That’s what makes this fun. It’s a it’s an embrace debate type of conversation, but and AJ Hinch deserves manager of the year. He deserves all of the accolades. I’m not saying that. But this particular moment, it was the wrong decision. This particular management decision to take the ball out of Terub’s hands was objectively wrong. And I appreciate the comments coming in. So, let’s get to those comments. We’ll work our way backwards because the dill spoon is up first. Yeah, I get it. Clown. There you go. I’m not sure if he’s calling me a clown. Maybe I am. And that’s fine. Or maybe AJ Hinch. Nobody’s a clown. No. AJ Hinch is a tremendous manager. One of the best. Um, and again, I think he deserves manager of the year. But let’s if you got 162 games, that’s and your team’s the best record in baseball. That’s what makes this fun is each and every game we are locked in and locked on to post. I know that was a little bit cheesy. Um, but uh I appreciate that from the Dole Spoon here clar clarifying it that that was a crazy clown. And I agree with you, bro. Appreciate that. And again, even if you don’t, you don’t have to agree with me. I’m just uh as a as a host of the Locked on Tigers post, I’m just giving my opinion. All right. Crazy Clown is up next. Golden Arm, you have to protect it. He had Tommy John. All right. All right. That’s one for the other side. And I’m not trying to divide everybody. At the end of the day, we’re all Tigers fans and we got the win and that’s all that matters. So there you go. Mark is up next. That wild pitch shouldn’t count as an earned run for school. I agree. It’s one of those uh wonky I mean I honestly again I was at the game so I wasn’t keeping score or anything like that. I’m just going off of the ESPN box score. So uh if that gets uh a changed let me know. Um but uh that being said hey I appreciate all the comments. I appreciate the um the participation and uh what all we’ve got going on. Other reaction Jav Bayas left this game and I see a comment here. Is Jav hurt? and no further word. All I saw on um on Twitter as far as Jav Bayz was he wasn’t feeling right. So, um I’m sure more will come out uh on that. I’ll be sure to follow up on it, but all I saw was he wasn’t feeling himself and that’s all he told AJ Hench. No further word on um what is up with Jav Bayas. But yeah, there was a lot going on in this game. Um, the Tigers had to find a way to win and avoid the sweep because the losing streak had reached six games. You had your stopper and the best pitcher in the planet on the planet in Terk Scubble on the mound. You had to find a way to win this one. Nathan Valdi was scratched for the Texas Rangers. So, it was Jacob Latz that started in his place. And again, just uh I was talking with some Tigers fans at the game. You know, we were kind of robbed of scuba vers skins from the rain out um a couple weeks ago when the Pirates in town. when we were robbed from Scuba verse Evaldi tonight because Evaldi had the back stiffness and uh was scratched from the start. But all that being said, Tigers get the win. First team to 60 wins. There’s a lot of holes on this roster. We’ve beat that dead horse and to the ground. We understand that uh Scott Harrison company has to do something at the deadline, but at the end of the day, it felt good for the Tigers to get this win here before going to Pittsburgh on a team again on paper you feel like they can win some games there. But let’s keep the lights on as we do in the locked on Tigers post. When we come back, we’ll have our player of the game, our turning point, and of course wrap it up with a look at tomorrow. It is the longest losing streak of the season that ends at six games. But a win for the Tigers, first team to 60 wins. And if you would say, hey, after 100 games, the Tigers are going to be 60 and 40, have a comfortable lead in the American League Central and the best record in baseball. I think we’d all sign up for that. We’d also all sign up for a trade deadline move or two or three to be made. I know Ueno Suarez getting him back for the Tigers organization is a lot of things or a lot of uh uh Tiger fans something they want to see happen. He’s just on a tear. He continues to just go yard uh seemingly daily. A bullpen arm or two or three is absolutely needed. And I I think at I’ve cooled on the idea of adding an additional starter um with the the starting rotation getting healthy. I think uh that’s uh that’s what we can look forward to. Couple more comments here as we wrap this one up. I love this one from Zack Dodson. Will Vest was all of us after out number three. I love the emotion he plays with. I also got to give him a lot of credit. Hey, two pitches, two outs. And in a one-run game in the ninth inning, that’s a great way to slam the door shut. I’m seeing a lot of uh comments like this that the and I saw a lot on uh on Twitter that the ESPN broadcast was super annoying. There you go. Um hey, sorry I was at the game taking it all in. Um this is good from Javias Prods. Appreciate the data. You guys know I love when uh some of that information is added in. Holton has a 1.69 69 RA in his last seven appearances, which again, I said in my rant that I know Tyler Holton’s been really good in his mo more recent appearances. But you just can’t convince me that anybody is better than Terooel in any situation. That’s just I I and call me hard-headed, call me stubborn, whatever it is, but I’m just here to say TKO is the best pitcher on the planet. I want the ball in his hands. Call me crazy. All right, it is that time. It’s the turning point. Time to reveal where the game was won or lost. It’s the turning point. In all actuality, this is going to sound like me trying to be funny, but a turning point was when AJ Hinch took Scubble out of the game. And I hate to beat the dead horse and play the broken record and so on so forth, so I won’t spend too much time talking about that. But that turn that was a turning point in this game. It allowed the Rangers to tie the game on the wild pitch. And maybe that wasn’t necessarily Holton’s fault. Maybe Dingler could have done a better job. I mean, it goes down as a wild pitch, but as a catcher, could you have blocked that and coralled it a little bit better to prevent the carum all the way to the third base side, allowing the runner to score? Maybe. But again, I’m just taking my chances with Teroo. If they beat your best player, so be it. If they beat a bullpen that’s been battered as of late, that’s a totally different conversation. So, I think the game turned there. But, let’s give some love. And I’m sorry, this is just the way a reaction show works sometimes where there’s one big talking point and I haven’t done a good enough job and that’s on me of expanding onto the other components of this game. And Matt Berling deserves a lot of credit. Give Matt Berling a lot of credit for that gamewinning RBI and his hit in the eighth inning after the Rangers tied it in the seventh. Give him a lot of credit. Just drove it right back up the box to center field to score Glaver Torres. And again, the way that the Tigers responded in that eighth inning is that’s the gritty Tigers. That’s what we were calling for yesterday. I mean, no life from this team post Allstar break until tonight where all of a sudden the Rangers tie the game. Globe Lifefield’s going nuts. It’s a hostile environment. And what happens in the eighth inning? You get an infield single from Gabber Torres. Riley Green reaching on an infield single to the shortstop. And then both of those balls were not hit hard. It was uh the result of of sure a little bit of luck but hustling down the line and then eventually after a couple of outs Matt Beerling with the big hit to bring home the go-ahad and eventual gamewinning run. So credit to the Tigers resiliency and their grittiness there in the eighth inning to allow this team to eventually earn the win. But let’s get to our player of the game. This is the locked on player of the game. If you know me, you know it’s Teroo. And why wouldn’t it be another dominant performance from the left-hander and he continues to be absolutely surgical on the mound, just a machine out there, just carving guys up, six and two/3s, just the four hits. Um Cory Seager though, got to give him a lot of credit. Even as a lefty, a couple of hits for Cory Seager and one of them being an extra base hit. I heard a crazy stat on my drive home that just two left-handers have hit extra base hits off of Terk Scooel this entire season and one of them was Cory Seager tonight. But Scooble gets um the no decision. Six and two/3s, four hits, one run. It was an earn run, 11 strikeouts. He did not walk a batter. How about Will Vest the four out save, 16th save of the season. Tyler Holton gets the win. He’s five and three. And the Tigers are the first team in baseball with 60 wins and continue that strangle hold on the division. Thanks as always for tuning in. We’ll get back at it tomorrow when the Tigers head to Pittsburgh. And I believe I want to say it’s uh Skins and Flity. And I would be correct. Jack Flity the right-hander 5-9 4.65 erra against Paul Skins. The righthander’s 4-8 with a 2.0801 erra. How about that? an erra just north of two and he’s four and eight. Poor guy. But Tigers got to go get a win again tonight. Um or again tomorrow night in Pittsburgh. They got three in Pittsburgh. So before the Blue Jays come to town beginning Thursday. So a lot going on. It’s always fun with the Detroit Tigers. That’s what makes following the best team in baseball a lot of fun. And I appreciate everybody tuning in. Thank you for all of the comments. And I understand that sometimes in an intense game like that, we’re all going to disagree and that’s okay. I see the comments here. There was reasons for AJ Hinch taking Google out and putting Tyler Holton in. It didn’t work out. I say unequivocally, Terubel should have stayed in the game. And if you want to discuss that, I totally get it. And hey, again, that’s what makes it fun. Tomorrow night, Tigers and Pirates, first team in baseball to 60 wins.
Detroit Tigers beat Texas Rangers 2-1 at Globe Life Field in Arlington. Tarik Skubal pitched 6.2 innings allowing just one earned run while striking out 11 and without walking a Texas Rangers hitter. Detroit Tigers and Texas Rangers were tied 1-1 in the 8th when Matt Vierling drove in the go-ahead and eventual winning run on an RBI single to center field. Will Vest earned his 16th save of the season recording the final out of the 8th inning and all 3 outs in the 9th. Hinch is kind of an over managing, manager
No debate, he was doing what he always does 105 pitches and he is going to pull him.
My concern for this team is their approach to hitting is bad .
They are too busy going for the downs .
They swing at balls out of the strike zone or take a strike down broadway with two strikes.
Their approach is swing hard with launch angle being the optimal at hitting a home run. I like a bloop and blast like any other fan.
Base hits ie making contact up the middle.
Leave the starter in for more innings! Yeah for the Tigers!
Youre tripping. Skubal was losing command. He was why there were runners on corners.
No love for matty v coming thru in the clutch?
100% wrong decision pulling skubal out
Jones down, Malloy up.
