#DallasCowboys Fish Report 5 Takes to Oxnard – THE RIGHT FOCUS for #Cowboys #nfl

flight and head to Southern California for Cowboys training camp. We’re glad to have you along with us. Um, a conversation to some degree this morning as I try to monitor your comments. Get in, get on, be good. Bring something of Cowboys intellect to the table as I give you five things. That’s right. Five things on the fish for lunch breakfast menu. Cowboys land in Oxnard area, of course, last night. uh they get off the bus, get off the plane and um do some quick visits with the media and um five items of insight to come out of that for me and I bet you for you as well. So, let’s kick those around and then a reminder we’ll do this uh breakfast at fishnes every morning at 8:00 a.m. Central time. Every evening fish at 6 central time. So we’ll get a chance to uh in the evening shows review the practice uh and in the morning of course preview all the things that are coming on for that day item by item by item and I forgot the bell ding. Uh we have talked about Trey Smith in Kansas City and we know about Tyler Smith in Dallas. And I do think and I’m kind of fascinated by the fact that the emphasis uh in guys conversations uh as they arrived in Oxnard more about the Eagles and the Super Bowl than about the money. And I think that’s good. I bet you agree that the all the money stories are going to happen starting obviously with Micah Parsons. The money stories are going to happen. But I like uh I I like the idea that the eyes are on the prize. Eagles Super Bowl. Yo Joe, I got you. Ding. There you go. Marco Robles checking in from Santa Barbara, California. I’ll see you in a minute. Uh the Trey Smith deal in Kansas City. 4-year extension, $94 million. There’s every reason for for uh Tyler Smith to be thinking that plus a penny, right? for his agent to be thinking that plus a penny. In the case of Tyler, uh he was asked about that pursuit and his answer is the Eagles week one. That’s where my head is at. It will take something off his off his plate and out of his head. I if this thing gets done sooner rather than later, I know players talk about how it’s not a distraction. that that’s a fib. They’re trying to convince themselves of that, but but it’s not true. It wouldn’t be true in your business either. Um you you got a you you don’t you don’t know what your uh next salary is going to be. You don’t know what your boss thinks. You don’t know what your next team employer is going to be. You you want to know and uh and and that’ll work itself out. But the idea of Tyler Smith having his eyes on the double prize week one Eagles and then more in a minute uh on the ultimate goal for this year. Raone Alcala agrees with me that that’s I think that’s a really good statement from Tyler Smith who is emerging as a Cowboy spokesman of sorts. Item two, ding. Uh working out a trio of pass rushers and we’ve heard the gossip and we’ve talked about it. Maybe they should trade Sam Williams, though, as I’ve told you, this team thinks the other way. They they don’t they don’t want to send quality pass rushers out. They want to gather them. They want to bring them in. And so, giving tryyouts to a trio of guys, James Houston, who you may have heard of, Jesse Lucita from Penn State and Cameron Klein. The notable thing about James Houston is he was a six- round pick, Lions 2022. His rookie year, I think he played in seven games and got eight sacks. I think he got a sack in four straight games. His career total is nine sacks. His rookie year, he gets eight, career total, nine. So, there’s something in there untapped. And the Cowboys are taking a look at it. In the case of Jesse Luke, he played at Penn State and uh I believe was a roommate of Micah Parsons there. So, that’s kind of fun. Sidebar, speaking of Micah Parsons, not on the team flight. Oh, no. Guys don’t have to necessarily do that anymore. That’s not how it works. Uh my understanding is that he has rented a house. His family is out there with him. Uh and as we said yesterday, Jordan Schultz confirming his plan is to not hold out. And uh we’ll get a chance to see uh more of that in action. Cowboys with the Glory Hole press conference today and then uh they start practice on Tuesday and we’ll get a chance to sit there and watch the thing unfold, including Micah Parsons. It’s certainly conceivable uh that he could change his mind. It’s conceivable that he could be a hold in of sorts, but he has said, “I I’m not going to use uh my contractual situation as a protest.” And um I don’t know, I I have no reason to have not believed him all along. And so here we go on Micah. Item three, ding. Uh Don Bland posting on social media that he is planning to have a career year. What does that mean? Thank you, Yojo. You’re really on it. Uh I I He probably is talking in part about interceptions, especially because he’s in a contract year and and people play people pay for playmakers, right? Travis Powers Fish, what central time is it glorill? It’s a uh it’s 11:00 something. You know what? I got it here somewhere. I’ll maybe I’ll dig it up. It’s 11 o’clock something. JP, the fish, the dude just took your coffee. They have plenty more where that came from. Uh Kenneth Beecher, he had his career year. The idea of, hey, hey, let’s get a whole bunch of pick sixes again. I I hope he’s not talking about that. That’s not realistic. He had 14 interceptions in his first two years. And then last year injuries u and so didn’t get that done. I hope what he means. There you go, Steve. Thank you. 11 a.m. Pacific time. And uh by the way, obviously cowboyscountry.com will be all over every bit of it. The 75 member staff is here to serve. It’s not about it. It’s about playmaking, but it doesn’t have to be about interceptions. Uh it’s about not getting beat at your position, but it’s not about necessarily pick sixes. So, he doesn’t have to have he doesn’t have to have seven interceptions for it to be a career year. Um, he does have to be maybe the second best player on this defense behind Micah Parsons. That’s real. Uh, and that’s a good way for him to get paid here as well. Kenneth Easley, Cowboys are in Oxnard. Football’s back. I know, right? Listicle season now gets behind us. Carl Alder is an Uncle Fish Premium member. Welcome to the straight dope level. Um, and guys checking in from uh, Cal for everywhere from California to Canada and all around uh, the planet. A reminder, you’re going to see the notes Cowboys at Panthers. That’s the weekend that we’re all going to gather in DFW at the Maverick Bar for the uh, FishFest Cowboys watching party. Item four, Ding OSA. and his contract came up and of course uh he he got his payday and good for him. Yes, Yojo. Ding. Thank you. Big Mac. LFG football is back, right? Uh I’m not I’m not saying we’ll never again talk about a list. This guy’s on a list. That guy’s ranked fifth. That guy’s ranked ninth. He should be ranked. I’m not saying I’m not saying we’re completely done with it. Um, but it’s been used to fill time. Nick Nef, what is our calling card this season? All the other East teams have big reason to be good. What’s good? Well, Nick, you got two separate questions. Um, all the other East teams have big reason to be good. That’s not true. There’s no reason for the Giants to be good. There’s no reason at all. Uh, the reason for the Eagles to be good is talent and pedigree. The reason for commanders to be good, and yes, they’re still the commanders, by the way, is talent, not yet pedigree, although they do have a chance to probably be the oldest team in football. So, uh, I I don’t I don’t think I don’t think that’s true of the NFC East. I do think the Cowboys sit here now as the third best team that they could finish 10 and seven and still finish third in the division. But if you’re asking about calling card and what you’re what you mean is, “Oh yeah, hit the like button.” By the way, uh there’ll be between 10,000 and 10 million people that watch this video, would you please hit the like button? That tells YouTube the kind of cowboy programming you want. And I do think it helps me. I’ve never been able to quite figure out how uh the the idea uh Oh, and I lost my beautiful train of thought on that. uh uh on OSA and on the money and on the focus. Here’s the quote from OSA. The work that got me here is the same work that will get me where I want to go. So again, and you’re seeing this next gen uh Michael Parsons has just talked a lot about this, the next generation of leadership, and I think you’re seeing it in some of the things that Tyler Smith uh an emerging leader of the offense and OSA, an emerging leader of the defense. Oh, the calling card. There you go. Thank you, Lorenzo. Well, Washington logically could take a step back. The Eagles taking a step back from being the best team in football. I don’t know that there’s much logic there. There’s there’s all kinds of logic to say they’re the still the best team in the NFC. I don’t buy the calling card idea. It’s it’s the same as the identity. What’s our identity? Well, you know, my team’s identity is we want to throw it, run it, we want to block it, we want to catch it, we want to tackle it, and we want to intercept it. We also like to kick it. That’s my team’s identity. the the Eagles are a run first team because their quarterback is better at running than he is at throwing. But Washington, what’s Washington’s identity? It doesn’t it doesn’t come down to a word. Uh the Steelers like to play this game, you know, we’re we’re we’re the Steeler. It’s bologoney. There’s no there’s no definable Steeler trait. There’s all kinds of different you know, we’re tough guy. Not every guy that ever played the Steelers was tougher than the guy that played for the Browns. Uh the Ravens like to play that game, too. He was born to be a Raven. It doesn’t mean anything. Uh it’s NFL films hyperbole. So, Cowboys calling card. Uh win 10 games. That should that should be the Cowboys calling card. And finally, item five. Ding. Keto. Are we changing our defensive identity this year? Again, identity or scheme? you’re you there will be scheme changes. I think for instance um last year and this is a Mazy Smith ccentric observation last year. I do think Mike Zimmer figured out asking Mazi to try to get up field which is what the previous administration did. He’s just not good at it. I do have a feeling that that under Eva he likes that too. And so that’s not going to be a great Mazy fit. So, if we’re talking about a a defensive scheme and that it’s it’s going to be about uh front four pressure and using speed and athleticism to get towards the quarterback pocket, that that’s a scheme thing, but it’s not an identity cuz cuz there’s there’s no such thing. There’s it’s uh that’s bumper sticker baloney. Tyler, realistic goal. He says it’s a realistic goal. for us to get to the Super Bowl. And um fans can argue this, media can argue this, Jay Kelly, Maz may be may be on the trade block. The problem, Jay, is and this goes for too. This this goes for all the guys that seem like they’re they’re overdrafted and underperformers. Let’s let’s trade them to who? Who wants him? Who who wants your third string tight end? So, uh, I I would I would tap the brakes on the idea that all the guys that the Cowboys thought they were going to love that they don’t. Let’s trade them. I I would I would tap the brakes on that. Um, VJ, that should be the goal for all teams. It’s also the right thing to say. Bingo. But you could, in answering the media’s questions, you could get caught up in the money and make that your answer. You could for you could be not aware that the Eagles are week one and make that your answer. In your head, you you are thinking about your money and your family. Um as long as also in your head you’ve got Eagles in Super Bowl. Uh I’m I’m thumbs up on it. Yo, yes, I will handle that one in a minute. Tyler, realistic goal is the Super Bowl. Then asked Tyler Smith, can this roster do that? Do you have the roster in place to do that? And he said, we do have the roster in place. Yes, sir. If if you don’t put it in your head and then if you fail to say it out loud, and these aren’t automatics, but I do find they help. It makes the goal more realistic. It makes the goal more achievable if it’s openly talked about. And and there are some maybe fans in in media who, you know, we’re sick of the promises uh quit talking about uh it’s it breaks our hearts. You’re you’re big boys and girls. Your hearts can take it. They they should absolutely be talking this talk. We’re focusing on week one and we think we can go to the Super Bowl. Uh that is a good way to get Oxnard launched. We will continue that launch as we go throughout the day at cowboyscountry.com and here on the Fisher report. Uh except if I’m on a plane and maybe even then if uh something breaks, we’re on top of it. And we would love to have you with us here. Fisher report here. 1. FIsh, I know you never read these. Likes and comments on your content show engagement with you audience. The more you have, the more your content is pushed by the algorithm. Also, if Cowboys fans are getting triggered by players saying they strive for SuperBowls, please leave the fandom.

  2. 3rd best team put down the pipe fish just like the big network!! I hope they come in 1st to prove to u in all the other doubters way wrong!!!

  3. I tbink we finish at least 2nd. But no one really repeats as nfc east. Champs phil mafah is going help us get six unstead of three he is a monster. Shoulder shoukd be fine. He will be starter by. Week. 5

  4. A couple thoughts, I try never to Miss A show. So I don't think I have missed this, but I certainly would like to know where you're getting a potential 10 wins this season fish based off our game schedule.

I can easily see us going two and four or worse within the division itself.

And lastly, while I understand and empathize with any player having super bowl in mind, don't it honestly kind of make them sound like morons for a team that was so god awful last year, even with their starting quarterback on the field and to do what minimal moves they did this year , are they really that much Better ?

We did nothing to improve the run Defense, which automatically tells me the eagles, are going to kick our a** all over the field. Twice, this year, again, and we did nothing to make major improvements in the run game itself. I don't care if it is all new backs that they brought in.All of them are unproven.

I hate to say it, but I can see a season opener loss. Something in the neighborhood of 38 to 14…

On our way back to a season record of 8-9
