MLB LIVE🔴 New York Mets vs Los Angeles Angels – Jul 21, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO

with Chris Singleton. I’m John Shabi. The first half of the All-Star break is behind us and partner, it’s go time in the second half. And if you want to be playing meaningful games at the end of September, you got to put your head down and grind for the next eight weeks. It’s the Los Angeles Angels going up against the New York Mets. All right, we’ll be back to get this one started after this. Just about ready to roll. And starting in this one, Frankie Montas and Singi. We were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots. Well, he’s been a real quality starter for his club. And coming into this one, what stands out for me is that right-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 on the year. It seems they have a hard time picking up his release point and tracking the ball into the zone. So, we’ll see how right-handers do against him in this one. Zack Neto, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one, swinging a miss and the count even at one. Go one straight and that’s hammered into right field. That’s a base hit. Really good swing right there. He got a pitch that he knew he could handle. Allowed himself to stay back just a tad bit longer and he hit the ball on the screws. And here’s the first baseman, Nolan Showell, over to first and he’s saved. Frankie. There’s the strike. [Applause] Neto gets his lead at first with nobody out. swing and a highf fly ball left field. NMO has it sized up. Makes the grab. One down. By third, the designated hitter. All right, let’s take a look at the Angels lineup and no doubt a big factor in this series so far. Mike Trout and Boo, he’s the table setter for this offense. Team leader and on base percentage. I mean, that just gives your teammates plenty of chances to cash in and bring them around to score. Man, I used to love when I had a guy out in second base or third base. Easy to get those RBI’s. Game after game, you know, a guy like this, what he’s going to provide and the opportunities that other guys are going to get in the lineup. Frankie Mike Trout in now. Takes ball one off the strike. And there’s a ball. Last two pitches have been down in the zone. Pitcher clearly trying to get that ground ball double play. But in this count, he’s going to have to give in, elevate his pitches, and get back into this at bat. Delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. [Applause] Montasa moved to first. Neto dives back in safely. man at first. One away. No, that’s high. Ripped on a line. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. And there are two outs. Batting fourth, left fielder Taylor Ward. Taylor Ward getting ready to hit. This has been a career year for him when it comes to driving in runs. Fast ball on the inside corner for a strike. Let’s go now. And a bat like this is almost over as it begins. In this situation, you have no idea what the next pitch is going to be. You just got to hope that you can make contact. Foul ball still 0 and two. Ground ball, Alonzo. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. Angels leave one. Now the Mets offense will go to work for the first time. No score. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. Back here at City Field. And on the mound in this one, Jake Eer. How about a scouting report on him? Well, this guy’s just been filthy out there on the mound. Hitters batting under 200 against him. And they’re just having a hard time squaring up anything, doing any type of damage. The only way he hurts himself is if he gives up the free passes and surreners a rare home run. But outside of that, it’s going to be a tough job for the opposing lineup today. [Applause] That one finds the zone. No balls, two strikes. Well, he’s got ahead with two pitches down in the zone. He has plenty of options right here. He can go up, he can go away, he can add velocity, he can subtract. The next pitch misses and the count is one and two. That’s a really good job of laying off the O2 high fast ball is going to make that pitcher really have to respect this hitter even though he’s behind in the count. Swing and a miss. Struck him out and that’s the first out. Good late cut for the strike out there. That thing really got in on him. You know, the cutter isn’t really a huge swing and miss pitch most of the time because it’s not really meant to move a whole lot. You’re just trying to miss the big part of the barrel and maybe get some weak contact. But that one right there did a whole lot more than that. That was a really good pitch. Mark Ventos the next to hit. Takes ball one. One out. Base is empty. Close but called a ball. And it’s two and 0. And another ball. [Applause] Fast ball for a strike. Popped up foul territory behind the play. Oh settles under it and makes the catch and there are two down. Here’s a Mets lineup now. Not a whole lot going their way offensively the last few games. Chris. Yeah, that can put more pressure on the pitching staff to try to limit the opponent to just one or two runs a game knowing that their offense is not scoring right now and that never really works well because you try to be too fine and you end up giving up a lot of runs. So, we’ll see if everybody can just relax, bring things together and perform at a level that they’re capable of. Juan Sodto the next to hit takes outside. at 96. That pitch is in for a strike [Music] on the ground. What a stop. Throws from his knees. Safe at first and an infield single keeps the inning going. Wow. He did everything he could on that play with the throw from his knee, but the hustle down the line was enough to earn him the infield knock. And that’s a great baseball play all the way around. So, a man aboard, Pete Alonzo. Now, always a power threat. The polar bear hit his 200th career home run last season. Yeah. And that home run came right here at City Field. He’s the fourth fastest player in baseball history to reach 200 homers. [Music] Come on, Polar Bear. swing and a miss as he was out front that time. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Two outs. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. That’s off the mark. Going to count one and two. Really good take, especially with two strikes. That’s above. Next pitch is inside and it’s a full count. Great RBI spot here. Just got to stay focused on the pitch. The runner will be in motion. So something in the gap should definitely score it. Foul ball and it remains a full count. Well, they’re really running up the pitch count in this first inning. Lots of confidence from this team that is perhaps the hottest in baseball right now. Fouled off again and it remains three and two. Grinding AB right here about to see pitch number 10. And down on strikes he goes. He didn’t make it easy for him on the mound, but they still get the strike out. Mets leave one. We played an inning. They’ll score. Back here in Queens, here’s Joe Adele. He set a new career high in home runs this year. And Singi, he’s just trying to set the bar as high as possible. Now Montas back to work on the ground to the left and it goes just foul. Adele goes 6′ 3 in 215 lbs. A former first round pick back in 2017. That’s a good miss off the inside part of the plate. You’d much rather miss there than out over the plate where this guy can do some real damage. And that’s down and away. Two balls, one straight and he can’t come up with it. Still manages a throw and they get the out. Good recovery. Wasn’t easy following the misplay. Batty six, third baseman Yoan Monka. Here is Monata. Ball one there. One ball. No strike. Swings and lines one towards the gap. Could be extra bases. Takes the turn. He’s digging for second. the throw in, but he’s in there easily. This is why hitters work so hard on driving the ball gap to gap in batting practice. There’s a lot of room out there and if you can rip one into that open space, it usually means extra bases. Runner in scoring position now and a good opportunity to push across the first run of the ball game. One out, runner at second. Logan O’Hap the next to hit for the Angels and that one fouled off. One out and a runner at second here in the top of the second. And that misses and it’s one and one. Matthew Ross umpiring behind home plate for us in this one. He’s got a reputation for having a bit of a wide strike zone, Chris. Yeah, no doubt, Boo. He rewards pitchers when they’re working the edges and sometimes a little bit beyond that. So, for the hitters, just have to really be aware. Don’t miss your pitch when you get it early in the count. One ball. Fly ball down the line. He dives, but he can’t make the catch. And it’ll be runners at second and third. Only one away. That’s a good job right there. Got two strikes on. You just got to battle. Here’s Lamont Wade Jr. Golden opportunity right here. And the first pitch misses for ball one. [Applause] And another ball. He’s got a base open. So the pressure to come in and really attack this hitter not as great as it would be if the bags were sacked. And it is two and one. Two in one. [Applause] Slap the other way. Foul. [Applause] Late night. Lamont down on strikes. Certainly a strikeout situation right there. the infield playing back and this pitcher has to step up and get the swing and miss. Really nice job of attacking the hitter at the plate. Pretty big two out at bat coming up now. Luis Renifo gets a chance to hit here. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. No score here in the second. There’s the strike. fouled off the plate. They’ll do it again. [Applause] Got him looking. Huge strike out there. A lot of adrenaline. We can see it right there. And sometimes you just got to let it out. does an outstanding job of taking that, executing, and getting out of a tough inning. Bottom half of inning number two. Now at the plate, Brandon N. Brandon NO. pulled hard, but it’s a foul ball. He’s begging. Give me that pitch one more time. A hanging change up just out in front. Close one. Doesn’t get the call. And that is ball one. Comes up empty. That’s strike two. Man, he really sells the change up with that arm action. [Music] Bows it off. Still one and two. Swaging a ball head out towards left center field. Ward racing over to make the catch. Every day during batting practice, these outfielders get about 10 minutes of balls in the gaps. They practice this and when the game comes, they make the play perfectly. Ronnie Mauricio now highf fly ball and that one curling foul down the right side. One down base is empty. Just missed. [Applause] That one drifts inside. Close but called a ball. And now three in one. [Applause] Swings through that one for strike two. Got it. And he’s registered. Three Ks in this one. This guy will throw any pitch in any count. 32. He goes off speed, gets the out, and stepping in for New York, Tyrone Taylor. Edge of the zone for a strike. And it’s 0 and one. Two out. Space is empty. That’s a ball. One and one. Check swing and he held up. Swang in a line drive slicing into right field. Makes the grab and that’ll end the inning. Down in order go the Mets will move to the third with no score. And we’re back. Well, here we go. Top of the third scoreless game. Here’s the shortstop at the plate. Zack Neto. Yeah, that’s fouled off. That one ripped. Carous. One away. Now batting the first baseman. And now the first baseman Nolan Shadowwell. Check swing and he went. And that is strike one. One strike. [Applause] Ground ball right side. Toss to Alonszo and a couple of quick outs. Now batting the designated hitter, Mike Trout. Here’s Mike Trout. He’s 0 for one. fast for a strike. York gets the outside corner with that one. All right. Now, he may have not liked either of those first two pitches or agreed with the umpire’s calls, but at this point, he’s going to have to bear down and be ready to hit anything close to the zone. That’s off the inside corner. And that’s ball one. That’s down and in. That one misses and now it’s filled up. Three and two to third. Mauricio over to first. Angels retired. One, two, three. Angels go quietly there. And we are still scoreless. Ready to go for the last half of the inning. And here’s the catcher, Luis Torren. Torren right through there for a strike. Oh, the key to his success is getting ahead early in the count. He cannot afford to go deep in the counts. Doesn’t have a ton of swing and miss stuff. So, he’s going to have to work efficiently. Just missing there. And the count one and two. Was good pitch there. Really had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, get a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. Luis Anel Akuna the next to hit and there’s a foul ball. Next offering upstairs. One ball, one strike. [Applause] just missed. [Applause] And he swings through that one. Bell and those hitters count sometimes can be a little too aggressive and a good pitcher will play off of that. He’s got to get a better pitch to hit. Ouch. He had two strikes on him and he hit him a miss. And that was Frankie Lindor. He struck out swinging in his first back. [Applause] Sliced hard but fouled. Look out. That ball was smoked. Man, I am so relieved that they have this netting down the line. Just runner takes off. Pitch outside. Throw save. That’s a stolen base. You know what? I like the aggressiveness right there. It looks like it’s going to be tough to score in this one. Really good pitching so far. So, why not try to put some pressure on him and see if he can steal the bat, get in the scoring position. The one is fouled off. Got him swinging now. Five strikeouts for him on the mound. And now it’s Mark Ventos for the He popped out his first time. Mark Vientos high in the air out to right. Wade sizing this one up. He’s there. He’s got it. And that will end the inning. Mets strand one. Still no score. New inning getting started. And now it’s the Angels clean up batter Taylor Ward. First pitch misses. drilled out towards left center field. Taylor settles under it and there’s one away. Now batting the center fielder Joe Adele. Now it’s going to be Joe Adele. First time up he grounded to third. Ball one, no strikes. Fourth inning underway. No score. That’s in there. And the count one and one. Well, we call that keyholeing. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good, if he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count. That one missed. Two two. Soft contact in the air. Calls it in. Two away. Up next for the Angels. Here comes Yan Long. Doubled his first time. And that’s a strike. He’s pitching well, but not throwing a ton of first pitch strikes. Usually doesn’t work out for success, but you can never predict baseball. Swing and a base hit and that extends the inning. Wasting no time. He’s two for two now on the night and just a triple and home run away from the cycle. Seriously, we’re starting with this already. And here is Logan O’Hap. And there’s the strike. Oh, and one. Monata leads off first with two down to the inning. Next offering is in for a strike. Well, I think that pitch surprised all of us. right down the middle. Doesn’t get a swing. Not very often you see a hitter lay off a cookie like that and a foul ball. He stays alive. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Next offering is down low. Lindor and he has thrown four shut out innings. One hit, one left. We’re midway in the fourth, no score. And welcome back to the ballpark. John Chami and Chris Singleton with you. And leading off the bottom of the fourth, Juan Sto. NBC. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Way to lay off that fast ball up right there. You’re looking for something you see well that you can handle, but you also have to keep the discipline so that you’re not popping up pitches that are just a little too high. Ground ball up the middle, tosses to first. One up, one down. Now batting the first baseman, Pete Alonszo. Here’s Pete Alonzo. Scoreless here. But now he’s got to deal with a guy who’s got some power. Got to be careful when you’re talking about a hitter with this type of slug and these type of home run totals. All tied up. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. missed with a change up. Two and 0. Got to be real careful here. 200. He’s hunting for his pitch. That one misses. And that’s ball three. [Applause] And there’s the automatic. Next offering is fouled back and that’s too high. Ball four. I don’t think he really wanted to pitch to him right there anyhow. Left fielder man at first with one goal. Brandon NMO up now for the Mets. He’s 0 for one. runner on the goal. Cut on and miss one straight throw to second tag and they got him. Such a quick and fast swing of emotions right there. You get the runner on with the walk which is great, but then picks a bad pitch to go on and you just erase the free pass that you were issued. I understand you want to be aggressive. You want to try to get in the scoring position, but you just have to be a little smarter there. in there at the knees for a strike. And the pitch is outside. Ball one. And that skips in the dirt. And that’s in the dirt. Swag and a ball hit out towards left center field. It gets down. A base hit. Joey gets on base and keeps it going. Next to hit, Ronnie Mauricio struck out looking his first time. A swing and a miss. And that’s strike one. Well, he’s been incredibly efficient in this one. first pitch strike percentage over 70%. That’s well above league average and that’s what’s allowed him to pitch well up to this point. Ruer takes off and foul ball. And here it comes. And a swing and a miss. And that’s that. Mets leave one and we’re still knotted at zero back here at City Field ready now for the fifth inning. So here’s Wade now. Montas back to work. Wade in his sixth season, 31 years old, and they traded for him earlier this year. The 1-1 is fouled off. One, two now. Fouled off and they’ll do it again. [Applause] This one in the air center field. Taylor makes the grab. One away. Now batting second base. And now it’s the switch hitting second baseman Luis Reanifo. Let’s go. Highfly ball out into left center field. NMO makes the grab and there’s two down. Now batting shorts stop Zack Neto. So two down now. And here is Zack Neto. One for two. [Music] Right through there for a strike. Two down, nobody on. And we’re in the top of the fifth. Hit in the air out to center field. Taylor and that is that halfway through this one still no score. We head to the bottom of the fifth and stepping in for New York, Tyrone Taylor. Tyrone Taylor. And that is out of play. Next offering misses down and away. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Jose Soraniano up and loosening in the pen. Burke getting loose as well. And that drops in for a strike. Next pitch is in the dirt. Two balls, two strikes. The count, two strikes. Hit in the air. Right field. Wade hauls it in for the out. Now batting catcher Luis Luis Torren digs in now went down on strikes his first time through. That will close rule the ball and it’s one and0. Bases empty, one away. Last half of inning number five. He was late there. Strike one. I think he was sitting off speed there. That misses the zone. Two and one. Two balls. One strike. Swing and a miss. He was late. Strike two. Two strike. Three ball strike and it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. That’s ball four. Tried another fast ball but missed the spot. Oh, looking for a swing and miss right there or for the ump to help him out and make a call with that last pitch but neither happened. Close pitch, but a good take to earn that walk. [Applause] Aulia takes a ball as he stands in for the second time. Next pitch is outside. This one belted deep left field on its way gone. [Applause] His first homer of the year. It’s two nothing. Chris, we knew this moment was coming for him soon. Yep. And it finally came. We knew it was only a matter of time before he was going to connect with one just like that. Just too good of a hitter at the plate. [Applause] In a 200 count, a hitter is on high alert. This is what you look for to be in the driver’s seat here. He got a pitch that he could handle and he hit that pitch really hard. Nice home run. Now the Angels manager is out of the dugout and he’ll make a move to the pen. Jake Eer won’t go any further and he kept them in it even though he’s in line for the loss right now. New arm when we come back. New pitcher in the game for the Angels, Jose Soraniano. still pretty early in the ball game. So, this bullpen has some work ahead of him. Best case scenario might be if he can come in here and get several quick outs, kind of bridge the gap, that starter left for him. Here’s Francisco Lindor for two in this one at 96. That pitch is in for a strike. [Applause] on the ground to short now. The throw to first on the run and they get the out. Up next for the Mets, designated hitter Mark Ventos. Two outs, space is empty. Mark Ventos up now for the Mets. [Applause] Swinging a foul straight back. The one line drive base hit right field. And with the inning still alive, here comes the heart of the order. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. Showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way. Didn’t get jumpy. Didn’t try to pull the ball. He let it get deep. Took the barrel right to it and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit. And now it’s Wanoto swing and a miss. And he was fooled. One straight. Two outs. Pitch is in the dirt and now it’s even. One and one. [Applause] And there’s a ball. Vientos off of first with two away. [Applause] That’s outside and it counts four. Pete Alonzo waiting to hit for the Mets. [Music] [Applause] and down on strikes. That ends the frame, but two come across to score in the inning courtesy of this two-run homer. It’s now a two nothing ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. We’re back and they make a change to start the sixth. the new pitcher, Klay Holmes. And this is an important part of this game. Tight score and still a lot of outs to get. So they’re looking for a big outing out of them right here to get some critical outs. So in for the Angels, Nolan Showell and the first pitch misses for ball one. Action in the Mets bullpen. Ryan Stannic appears to be getting loose. All right. [Applause] Swing and a miss. One and two. It’s been tough for the offense so far, but you can’t get frustrated. You got to find a way to shake it off. Go up there and relax. That’s the only way you’re going to be able to put runs up on the board. [Applause] [Applause] Strike them out. A change up missing and the count’s even at two. Strike him out. In the air, left field down the line and that drops foul. [Music] down on the ground right side. Handles, throws to first. He didn’t make things easy for him there, but they still get the out. Sinker low in the zone right there and produced exactly what he was looking for. Ball on the ground. Nice ground out. Here’s Trout. Highf fly ball out to center field. Taylor, he’s got it. And there’s two away. Now batting left fielder Taylor. Taylor Ward now at the plate. Two down. Do on. Ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. Now batting the center fielder Joe Adell the next to hit for the Angels. His split numbers between June and July there. Come on. And that’s in there for strike one. Two outs. Got him swinging. So, no runs here in a base hit. No errors and one left. To the bottom of the six we go. 456. Coming up, it’s the Mets two and the Angels nothing. Back here in Queens, bottom of the sixth inning. And now it’s the polar bear Petonzo. Pet Alonsozo. had a breaking ball misses outside. That pitch gets the corner and the count one and one. Hard ground ball base knock and the leadoff man aboard. [Applause] I’m sure he feels really good about that one. Wasn’t able to elevate that one, but he sure hit it hard enough to get through the infield. There’s not a whole lot of time for the defenders to react and try to make a play when it’s ripped like that. Here’s Brandon NMO. Here goes the runner. Just a slow ground ball this time. One away. Bottom of the six. Now batting third baseman Ronnie Mauricio. So up next for New York, Ronnie Mauricio. Hit hard on the ground to the right side and that’s just fouled. And a foul ball. Alonso leads off second with one gone in the inning. Goes down swinging for the strikeout. And that’s strikeout number 100 on the year. Oh, tough night at the dish. Punching out for the third time right there. He just hasn’t looked very comfortable at the plate. A little unsure of his timing right now. not picking up the spin and location of these pitches. They’ll have some adjustments to make. Tyrone Taylor up now for the Mets. Delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. Swing and a ball popped in the air and that’ll fall for a base hit. Here’s the throw to the plate. Tag too late. He scores. It’s three zip. Picks himself up an RBI. Totally tied up with that inside pitch. Got to it late and deep in the zone, but he got the bat on plane enough to fight it off the other way. And now they’ve got some speed on first. So, we’ll see if they try to get him into motion. And next for the Mets, Luis Torren. He is struck out and he is walked. Now moved to first. [Applause] That’s a hit. and out to a board. Now that so digging in can’t forget the two-run shot he launched out of here in the fifth. Yeah, one of the biggest swings of the game B as he looks to make even more of an impact in this at bat right here. [Applause] That one misses one and0. When the skipper calls down to the bullpen, he’s expecting a guy to come in and get outs. So far, not getting what he was hoping for. Swing and a miss. One ball, one strike. [Applause] Yeah, there’s the strike. Out to short. They take the force out and that’ll keep more runs from coming in. Inning over, but the RBI single pushes across a run. It’s now 3 nothing. You’re dialed into the show. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound, Ryan Stannic. He’s averaging more than one hit allowed per inning pitch this season, and that’s not where you want to be at all. So, we’ll see how he does here. Here is Yan Mona. The Halos in striking distance, but have some work to do. Boo. It starts with the laid-off man. I need a good at bat out of him right here. Tap foul at the plate. [Applause] That one misses. Two and one. Come on, let’s go. Foul ball there. [Music] Strike him out. goes down. Logan Logan O’H [Applause] first offering is fouled off. And ball one. Oh, that one is upstairs. 3-1 and he couldn’t come up with it. Boo. If I were him, I’d be nibbling around the plate as well. I mean, this guy’s just capable of hitting pitches outside of the zone and driving them a long way. Lamont Wade Jr. the next to hit for the Angels. And that’s outside. One and0. Next pitch misses way outside. Oh, he’s really working him away this at bat. Sometimes take a little bit off velocity. Try to get a roll over something on the ground. Stay away from that big hole on the right side of the infield. In the air, left field down the line. Makes the grab and there’s two gone. Now ready second baseman Luis Reho. Luis Rangifo the next to hit for the Angels. [Applause] Oh, he doesn’t get the call. And that’s ball one. And another ball. Boo. He never moved cuz he never had time to. With that kind of velocity, you’d prefer that pitcher work away. Two outs. That was absolute gas. Triple digits on the gun. It’s just a different experience as a hitter watching that go by. Zack Neto waiting in the on deck circle. They can get him up. He’d represent the tying run. So critical pitch right here. Here’s a three-0 fast ball for a strike. Oh first with two away. Swinging a miss. 99. How do you do? Instead of letting the hitter get his arms extended, tied him up a little bit. Slightly up, slightly in. Swaging a ball hit out towards left center field. And that’ll get down for a hit. And now they’ll have runners on the corners with two away. Up next for the Angels shortstop, Zack Neto. And here comes the Mets manager to the mound. Pitching change coming. Ryan Stannic is done. It’s a three-run game, and we’ll be back to tell you about the new arm in a minute. Now, pitching for the pitcher now, Reed Garrett. Well, walks have certainly been an issue for him this season, so we’ll see what kind of command he has. So up next, Zack Neto, one for three. [Applause] That’s a strike. No need to offer that pitch until you get to two strikes. It’s just a low percentage of success when you want to try to go after that down and away pitch. [Applause] Tying run at the plate. Outside low and it’s one and two. One and two. [Applause] A little roller up along first and a foul ball. Well, he knows they don’t want to give him anything to hit, but when you’ve got opportunities to drive in runs, you’ve got to expand the zone. He’s capable of going out there and doing damage with it. That one missing inside. That’s a little high. And the count’s full. 3-2, two out, runner on first. Lot of movement in the infield. Hitters got to stay focused on the pitch. Nolan Showwell up next for the Angels. The tying run at the plate. That one 95 to finish him off. Sometimes he wears the emotion on the sleeve, but that’s okay as long as he’s getting results. And right there, thrilled with the punch out to get out of a jam. Bottom of the seventh. Here’s the Mets leadoff man, Francisco Lindor. If you don’t get ahead in the count, you can forget about having any success against him. And that one is lifted in the air. Adele moves under it and makes the grab and a quick out number one. Up next for the Mets designated hitter. So now the DH spot Mark Ventos. There’s a swing and a try and that is a foul ball. Base is empty, one away here in the bottom of the seventh. Right through there for a strike. just misses with that one. [Music] Swings and misses. That K is his third of the game. I love to see guys compete and I know he’s frustrated that he wasn’t able to do anything with that pitch. You see it so well, but you have to respect the upper 90s velocity, man. It is hard to catch up to. Sodto in the box now as he leaves that one up high. He swings and fouls one off. And that skips in the dirt. [Applause] Not even close there. Three and one. Pete Alonzo up next for the Mets. [Music] Well, pretty clear to me he was trying to go deep right there, but you got to get a pitch that you can handle. Foul ball and it remains a full cow. Well, he’s desperately looking for that swing and miss. He’s going to have to just change speeds a little bit. Try to move it around. Create just a little bit of illusion at the end. Too high. And it’s ball four. That’s a great at bat. He saw a lot of pitches and earned a walk. So a man at first. Next is the cleanup hitter for the Mets. Pete Alonzo. Clips the corner. That’s strike one. There it was. A high velocity fastball in the zone. And I think a little frustration from walking the previous hitter. He’s got good stuff. Pitch inside the zone and trust it. Misses just off the outside edge. I think that was a strike. Just missing off the plate there according to the umpire. And out there on the mound maybe trying to get an explanation. Can’t say he’s convinced, but it looks like he’s accepted it. The 1-1 foul ball. And that one is inside. [Music] Grounds one to short. Throws to first and that is the inning. Mets strand one but they lead it three nothing. And we’re back. We go to the eighth. So in now for the Angels. Nolan Shanuel. Swang and a highf fly ball. Pulled foul and that’s out of play. and a foul ball. Well, it’s critical right here that they bear down and turn in some quality at bats. Try to chip away at that lead because if it gets to the ninth, that closer is coming in. Pats and misses. It’s a strike out. Pretty nasty cutter right there. And you’re seeing that pitch that location a lot more these days. And you can see why. Very difficult for hitters. I think the great Mariano Rivera can at least partially be credited for that thanks to the career he had with the cutter. It was just dominant. I tell you what, I felt like it was a moral victory whenever I could put that pitch in play. So, I can feel for the guy right there walking back to the dugout. That one in there to Mike Trrowley. The Angels trailing by three and we’re in the top of the eighth. Ripped to third, slings it across. Two up, two down here in the top of the eighth. Those plays can be tricky. They’re routine, but that doesn’t mean it’s always going to be smooth. He delivered a good play right there. Taylor Ward the next to hit for the Angels. swinging a foul straight back. The 01 swings through the sweeper. This guy’s pounding the zone. Hitters don’t have time to think in between pitches. And down on strikes he goes. And it’s a three up, three down inning. No runs, no hits, no errors. Home half of inning number eight straight ahead. It’s the Mets three and the Angels nothing. Now pitching for the Angels. Burke gets the ball now. They felt it was time to bring on a left-handed reliever from the pin with the lefty hitter coming up. I think that’s a good move. I know. I never liked when opposing teams did that to me. So, digging in, Brandon NMO for the Mets, leftielder measures 6′ 4 in, 210 lb, and he was a third round pick back in 2014. up the middle. Lead off man is out here in the eighth. Really nice job to get your first out of the ball game. Ronnie Mauricio and stepping in for New York. Ronnie Mauricio. Three strikeouts already. He’s 0 for three. Fast ball in for a strike. 0 and one. Movement in the bullpen. Sam Bachmann appears to be getting ready and I’m sure he’s feeling some nerves. This would be his major league debut. That one fouled off. And now one and two. One ball two strike. That misses off the outside edge [Applause] headed towards the corner and that is a foul ball [Music] to the right side. Oh, can’t pick it up cleanly. Save at first. No play. We’ll see how they score this. The center fielder Tyrone Taylor. One down. Tyrone Taylor up now for the Mets. [Applause] First pitch just misses. swing at a high-fly ball that’s out to center. Adele calls it in and there’s two away. Up next for the Mets catcher Luis Torren. And now the catcher comes up to him. Luis Torren. fast for a strike. Two outs. That breaking ball is in for a strike. And quickly it is nothing at two. [Music] Got him. Outside pitch got the better of him that time. Mets leave one, but they’re on top by a count of three to nothing. Now pitching for the Mets, number 39, Edway Diaz. We go to the ninth. Here’s the center fielder, Joe Adell. And there’s a strike. Good heater at 98. [Applause] And that one hammered. NMO going back on it. Grabs it right up against the wall. Now, third baseman Yan Mona. And now Yan Mona [Applause] and first offering is fouled off. [Applause] Hit hard to the ground and up the middle. Base hit. So, a man aboard now with one away. Man, those are the types of hits where you don’t feel any vibration in your hands whatsoever. Such a good feeling. Couldn’t get any air under it, but he smoked that ball back up the middle. Timing was just perfect. Got great wood on it, and there was just no chance for the infielders with how hard he hit it. Oh, in the box now. No balls in a strike. Mona leads off first with one away. [Applause] Swing and a miss. And that one missed by a ton. Two pretty nasty sliders to get this hitter in an 02 count. If you’re up there at the plate, you got to look up in the zone and spit on anything that’s down. [Applause] Swings and misses. Angels with only one out left. Dominating strike out there on just three pitches. And that’s what a good power pitcher can do to you. If he’s hitting his spots, filling up the strike zone, sometimes he bats over before it really begins. [Applause] Right side hard hit. And that’ll do it. Another outing, another save. That’s his 20th of the season. And this was a good example of why they rely on him so heavily in these close games. A shut out in this one. 3 nothing our final score for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shambi. Thanks for joining us. Heat. Heat.
