MLB LIVE🔴 Chicago Cubs vs Kansas City Royals – Jul 21, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
All right, just about ready for baseball and towing the slab, Daniel Palencia. Chris, he’s got the ability to take control of a game when he’s out there. Well, incredible mound presence and he’s going to attack hitters. Look at that strikeout per nine ratio over 10 coming into this start. So, he’s a pitcher that wants the ball. He’s aggressive. He knows that he can get the swing and miss especially when he needs it most. We’ll see how effective he is in this one. Jonathan India the leadoff batter as he looks at ball one. [Music] Rolled softly but that goes foul. Next offering is fouled back. Swing and a miss and he’s down on strikes. One out. He’s locked in at the plate when he’s using the whole field. He was out in front there. Just needs to let the ball travel a little more and his timing will be back on track. Good pitch for the strikeout. Now here’s Bobby Wit Jr. He’s been tearing it up at the plate recently, hitting better than 350 this month. Knee high. That’s in for a strike. Whit Jr. is one of only two players in ALNL history to have 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases in each of his first two seasons. Boo. The other player, Julio Rodriguez, swing and a miss. Man, 91 on the slider right there. That’s a hard one. That’s a low-end fast ball for some pitchers. Strike three and that’s two in a row. Came after him with the fast ball on 02. And that’s a pretty good demonstration of what power pitching is all about. out. He’s got the stuff obviously and right there he used it to put his opponent away without needing to waste any pitches. Vinnie Pasquantino the batter now as he swings and misses for strike one. There’s the strike of the knees. and ball one. Got him. Strikes out the side to begin the game. What a start. Nothing doing for the Royals. Now the Cubbies will get their first crack. No score. It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show. Back here at Wrigley Field starting on the mound in this one, Noah Cameron singing. He’s kind of a road warrior. Yeah, I definitely say so. You know, some guys shrink a little bit on the road. They’re so used to just, you know, having the comforts of being at home and having the fans behind him, but this guy seems to thrive in adversity and being in some hostile environment. So when you have a player like this on your team that goes out there and competes, you definitely like your chances away from your home ballpark. Michael Bush leading things off and takes a strike. That’s a ball. One ball, one strike. [Applause] swinging a foul back and that’s out of play. The next pitch misses and the count is even. Two and two. He’s great hitting the ball the other way and that pitch did a good job to straighten him up a bit. Mission accomplished. [Music] just off the outside edge. Really good take, especially with two strikes. [Applause] [Applause] That one misses. So, a lead off walk. That’s a nice job of grinding out that bat. Saw a lot of pitches and ends up drawing the wall. Very gritty. So, here’s Kyle Tucker now. And the first pitch misses for ball one. BCH gets his lead at first with nobody out. [Applause] Swinging a liner foul off to the right. Next offering upstairs. Good purpose pitch right there. Trying to tease him, get him to raise his sights, pop something up, and make it an easy out. Smug on me belted. Going back on this one. And that one is gone. That’s worth the price of admission. And they add a pair. It’s two nothing. That’s a fun way to take the lead. Just hit one out of the park. [Applause] Well, clearly some frustration out there on the mound right now. I mean, that ball was so close to going foul. Would have been a long strike, but instead batter gets rewarded. did a nice job of getting to the pitch and hitting it hard enough to get over the fence. Sea Suzuki stands in here, takes ball one low. Heart of the order coming through now. And with one home run already in this inning, they’re definitely looking to do some more damage. Swings through that. I got one ball, one strike. Just missed. [Applause] Next offering way off the plate. [Applause] Swag and a miss. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up on the ground to third. Loves it on the dive and they get the out. Third base would have to be so quick with their first step reactions. Hot shots like that. That’s why they call it the hot corner. That’s a perfect example though. There’s no way he gloves that one if he’s not dialed in, anticipating something coming his way. Staying on his toes every pitch. Really nice job to get back up, set himself, and make a strong throw across the diamond. Now the batter now Pete Crow Armstrong and that’s way high. And that’s ball one. [Applause] That one the other way with slinging it to first in time. Batting the catcher. Here’s a look at the Cubs lineup. This team is aggressive on the bases, Chris. They lead the league in stolen bases for a reason. Yeah, with this lineup, singles can turn into doubles or triples. It’s all about how you come out of the box. Such a fun team to watch. Boo. Let’s see if they can run away with this one. And now the batter is Carson Kelly. Let’s go, Carson. And first off is fouled off. Ball one there. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Popped up foul territory behind a play. Fine pulls that one down and that will end the inning. Cubs had two on this homer. It’s now a two nothing ball game. You’re dialed into the show. Back here at the friendly confines. All set for the start of the inning. Now the third base Mikel Garcia. Valencia back to work. That one in triple digits. They can live up in the zone all game if hitters will chase it. That’s just too much velocity. Hitters got to look down in the zone. [Applause] Well, after putting up a nice inning on offense, got some runs across. This is where you look for the starter to go out there, have a shutdown inning. Don’t give that other team any hope. Uh he just hope that he can get through this inning. Get the bats back up there while they’re hot. [Music] Make it four strikeouts in a row. Just cruising along. Well, just excellent location on that inside fast ball. Really locked him up. And as a hitter, it’s not typically what you’re looking for. You’re trying to protect away and then in. So, you can be a little bit tardy with two strikes. Hard to tell if he was fooled or if he thought it would be called a ball, but either way, that’s a really nice pitch. And now it’s Salvador Perez to the plate. Misses inside. One and0. Right-hander kicks, steals, and that one a little bit high. Ed Drummond behind the plate calling balls and strikes. Maybe one of the most respected umpires around the league. He’s not the kind of umpire that you’re likely to notice back there and that can be a huge compliment really. So if you’re just kind of quietly doing your job, staying consistent with your calls, hitters, pitchers, managers, even fans, they’re all going to appreciate you. Ed Drummond, he’s that kind of umpire. Here’s a three. Looks like a really good fast ball today. You can hear that catcher mitt popping. Looking forward to hearing a lot of that one in this one. draws the walk there and that’s how they get their first base runner of the game. Pretty easy walk right there. Last pitch wasn’t even much to think about. The rightielder. Here’s the rookie right fielder, Jack Kaggleó. Kaggleó. Let’s go. Daniel clips the outside corner and it’s 0 and one. [Music] Next offering is fouled back. [Music] Strike him out. Oh, this one kicks away a little as he can’t squeeze it. Come on, punch him out. Fouls it off. Still one and two. [Music] 99 milesPH to finish him off. Not the best location with the fast ball on strike three, but when you’re pumping high 90s, you’ll get away with some of those. More margin for error. You know, the fast balls become such a huge strikeout pitch in the sport. And I think a lot of it has to do with all the attention and emphasis on improved spin rates. These fast balls are just exploding out of the pitcher hands and jumping through the zone. two outs. He swings and hits a fly ball center field. Crow Armstrong settles under it and makes the catch. And that is that. Royals leave one. They trail things here. Two nothing. here at Wrigley Field. We’re up to the bottom of the second. And here’s the veteran outfielder Ian hat. The pitch. Clips the corner. That’s strike one. 01’s the count. Just missed. ball. Two balls, one strike. And swings through it. 22 the count, gets a piece and stays alive. on the ground to first. He takes it on his own. That’s one out in the bottom of the second. Batting seven, the shorts stop. Dansby Swanson. And here comes Dansby Swanson. [Applause] And first offering is fouled off. Swing and a foul straight back. Swing and a fly ball. Well struck left field. Isbel on his way over. He’s got it. And there’s two away. Batting it the second baseman, Nicoer. Two down, base is empty. Here’s Nico her singing he’s never finished the season with more stolen bases in his entire career. Foul ball. Two outs. Base is empty. This one smacked out to left center and that’s a base hit. A late jump and I think that was the difference on the play boo. It’s not always easy seeing the ball off the bat. Something to improve. So a man at first and now it’s Vidal Bruhan. [Applause] That clips the zone and that’s strike one. Right through there for a strike. Perhaps not quite ready to hit. first two pitches by him for a couple of strikes. Now back is against the walls. Going to have to figure something out and figure it out quickly. I don’t think he was trying to miss by that much in 02 count. Just tried to overthrow that pitch. Up and in. Two balls, two strikes. Two balls, two strikes. Fast bowl is outside. Great RBI spot here. Just got to stay focused on the pitch. The runner will be in motion, so something in the gap should definitely score it. [Applause] Swinging a foul ball at the plate. They’ll do it again. So now two on and two outs. Not what he wanted to do right there, Boo. That keeps this inning alive. Puts a runner in the scoring position and a chance for this offense to add on to their lead. Back to the leadoff spot in the Cubs lineup. So up now for Chicago, Michael Bush. He walked and came around to score his first time up and takes low for ball one. Next offering is fouled back. Two on, two outs. And it’s strike two. One ball, two strikes. That’s ball two. recognized that change up right out of the hand. Just spit on it. And that one is downstairs. Three and two now. Kyle Tucker would be next if they can extend the inning. And he’s homered already, so I’m sure he’d love a chance to do some more damage here. Got him swinging. So, it’s no runs on a hit, no errors, and two are left. We play two full. It’s the Cubs two and the Royals nothing. On the north side of Chicago, John Shabi and Chris Singleton. Top half of the third inning. And here is Freddy Fine. Daniel that finds the mark on the inside corner for me 29 years old and he was born in Venezuela headed towards the corner and that’s a foul ball. [Music] Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. And that skips into there up the middle. Whips it to first on the run and very nicely done for the out. Batting ninth, the center fielder number 28, Kyle. And now it’s Kyle Isbel. Good defender. He’s been inconsistent offensively. Check swing called strike. One out. Base is empty. [Applause] Swing and a miss. And the count is 0 and two. That was straight queso right there. stays alive. One down. Base is empty. And that’s a strikeout. Ed Drummond says he went around. Now batting the second base. So the Royals batting order turns over. Jonathan Indie at the plate. Struck out swinging his first time. Up the middle. Swanson on the run. Throw to first. Nicely done for the hour. Royals bats are quiet there. They trail it here. Two nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. Kyle Tucker aka Tuck to the plate now. Tucker. Yeah, a big swing and a miss. You know, these Cubs showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. They’re doing a good job of working the pitch count and they’ve been able to push a couple of runs across to score as well. [Music] Still relatively early, but with a pair of runs already on the board, the ripple effect of that high pitch count might set him up to do more damage later in this game. That one missed. This guy’s a fun guy to watch taken at bat. He just battles up there. He doesn’t take a pitch off at all. Makes it so difficult on the pitchers out there. You can tell they get frustrated with how long it takes to put him away. Off the mark there. Two and two. Two balls, two strikes. And they’ll do it again. Now he’s desperately looking for that swing and miss. He’s going to have to just change speeds a little bit. Try to move it around. create just a little bit of illusion at the end. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. They didn’t make it easy for him on the mound, but they still get the strike out. Next to hit, Seya Suzuki grounded out his first time. Curve ball over for a called strike. Next pitch is outside. Comes up empty. That’s strike two. One ball, two strikes. [Music] Knocks that one away. And we’ll do it again. [Music] That’s down and in. Still just the second batter of the inning. And on the mound, he’s already thrown 13 pitches. They got him working hard out there. Way inside. Gets out of the way. [Applause] [Music] Fans another. And that’s three straight strikeouts. Back-to- back strikeouts to start the frame. And that’s now three in a row. Yeah, he’s really settling in and getting a feel for his pitches, throwing them where he wants to right now. So, we’ll see how long he can keep this streak going. Crow Armstrong stands in here. tried to hold back his swing there but went around and it’s fouled away. Got him looking for the strikeout and he strikes out the side in the third. Three up, three down for the Cubs. They’re up two nothing. Start of the fourth and the batter will be the shortstop. Bobby Whit Jr. Whit Jr. That one a little bit high. Ball one. Well, these Royals just haven’t produced as many competitive at bats as I’d like to see in this one. They’ve gone down on strikes at a high rate today. So, it’s probably time to simplify the approach and just find ways to put the ball in play. Next offering upstairs, two balls, one strike. This one popped up. Foul ground first base side. One up, one down. The first baseman number nine, Vinnie Pasino. And now the first baseman, Vinnie Pasquantino. He’s 0 for one. [Music] And immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter and a swing to miss. Another 02 count right here. Pitcher just in the driver’s seat. He can go anywhere he wants to go right here. And there’s a ball. That’s a really good job of laying off the O2 high fast ball is going to make that pitcher really have to respect this hitter even though he’s behind in the count. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. And he’s up to seven strikeouts. Great start to this game on the mound. Looking very dangerous to these hitters. Seven punch outs already. So, this lineup hasn’t had much success trying to figure him out. I’m impressed with what we’re seeing here. Garcia stands in now and watches strike one. One’s the count. The Royals hitless so far in the game. Garcia started after it, tried to hold up. Now a look to first, no swing. He held up. Clyde Washington with the called air. Two down. Doon spoils a two- strike pitch. And he’ll see another liner base hit and that extends the inning. Hitting is really easy for some guys. One thing that I can see already, his bat stays in the zone on plane for an extended period of time. And guys like that, they have a high contact rate and they have more barrels because of that bat being on plane. And even when you don’t get it great, it’s still hit hard enough to dunk something in like that in front of the center fielder. [Music] Swing and a high-fly ball right field. Crow Armstrong moves after it and makes the grab and that is that. So, one left for Kansas City and they’re down two nothing. Bottom of the fourth goes the catcher Carson Kelly. Catcher Carson Kelly. A change up missing and it’s one and0. Hit softly on the ground to third. Garcia and one gone in the fourth as they get the lead off man. The left fielder number eight Ian H in half up to hit. looking good. Ball one. No strikes. [Music] And that’s in the dirt. Well, usually a high level of confidence when you’re facing a young pitcher out there on the mound. in this situation ahead 20. He’s put himself in a really good spot. And that’s through there for a strike. Now two and one. Base is empty, one away. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. struck him out looking. I can’t argue with that one. And clearly he was looking for something else. Anything but the breaking ball. It’s a great pitch to hit right there if you’re looking for it. And kind of a gift in a two- strike count, but sometimes you just get fooled and you got to tip your cap. to third. Garcia fires across the diamond and Swanson is set down. And the Cubs go one, two, three. Cubs are down quietly, but they’re on top two nothing. Back here at the friendly confines, we go to the top of the fifth. Now it’s the right fielder, Jack Kaggleon. Palencia back to work. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Well, these Royals being a little too patient at the plate in this game. Sometimes it’s a good thing, but today they’re continuing to fall behind in the count and that’s adding a ton of pressure to their offense. Makes the grab. One away. Now back the left fieldielder John. Here comes the manager out of the Cubs dugout and he will make a move to the pad. Daniel Palencia out of the game. And that’s an excellent job from the reliever in the starting role today. Gave him some length. Back with a new arm after this. Now pitching for the Here comes a new arm for the Cubs. Show. Well, they didn’t get much length out of their starter in this one, so they’ve got a lot of outs to eat up in that bullpen. I think they’ll look for some length out of him right here if they can get it. John Ray steps in for the Royals. 0 for one with a fly out to center. And that’s pushed foul off to the left and out of play. The Cubbies up by two and we’re in the top of the fifth. Next offering is fouled back. One down. Base is empty and misses inside. Dubs bullpen with some action. Kade Horton up and throwing for manager Craig Councel. Frasier getting loose as well. Got him looking. That’s a strike out. You know, splitters aren’t thrown by a ton of pitchers, and one of the main reasons is that they’re difficult to control, and not many guys can spot them consistently where they want to. But he’s one of those exceptions. He’s found a way to corral a split and he can place it on a dime just like he did right there. for me in the box now. No balls in a strike. It’s been tough for the offense so far, but you can’t get frustrated. You got to find a way to shake it off. Go up there and relax. That’s the only way you’re going to be able to put runs up on the board. Two outs. He swings and fouls one off. And down on strikes he goes. And it’s a three up, three down inning. KC down in order. They’re still down. It’s two zip. And we’re back. Bottom of the inning. Nico her will come up to hit. Chris, baseball today, so many strikeouts and they are available to pitchers. But this is a guy that puts the bat on the ball and is kind of different from the players that we see day in day out. Yeah, his swing is so good. It’s in the zone a long time. He gets the barrel to it a lot and that produces more base hits. Swings through that one for strike two. When you look at the elite teams in the game right now, there is going to be the slug. No question about it. But the really good offensive teams combined slug with more contact with less swing and miss. [Music] Foul ball still a one and two count. Yeah. And the domino effect of that is running up pitch counts on pitchers and then either getting them to a place of fatigue or getting into the bullpen perhaps before you get to those higher leverage arms at the back end. Well, that certainly feels good when you can win the advantage after being down in the count up against it with two strikes right there. So much of good hitting is finding holes in the defense. That’s why you’re always thinking line drive into the gap. Those kinds of swings really boost your confidence. [Applause] Bruhan stands in now. Looks at that one inside. Activity in the bullpen for the Royals. Michael Lorenzan up and loosening in the pen. Clark warming up as well. her aboard here at first with nobody out. Misses just off the outside edge. I think that was a strike. One of the things that Jim Leland used to say when I was broadcasting with the Marlins, the longer a plate appearance goes for a batter, the more likely it is that something good will happen for the hitter. The two-1 and there’s a foul ball. Yeah. And I figured you would get caut into this because you had a free dinner at his house the other night. That is true. Close one. Doesn’t get the call. Full countdown. [Applause] Fights it off. He’ll see another. And a foul ball. He stays alive. Good battle here. About to be the eighth pitch of the at bat. Foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch. base knock center field corner around second heads for third and they’re at the corners with nobody out. Now batting first baseman and the Royals manager making his way towards the mound now as he will make the move. Noah Cameron is done just never found his groove wasn’t able to settle in. New arm coming on back in a moment. Now pitching for Michael Lorenzan gets handed the rock out of the pen and he’s been hit pretty hard at times this year. So he’s looking for better right now. Giving up more than a hit per in any. And here’s the first baseman, Michael Bush. He is struck out and he is walked. Rudder takes off and it’s fouled off. Runners in the corners. Nobody out. Last half of inning number five. And a foul ball. [Music] Foul ball. Still 0 and two. [Music] ball that’s inside. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Next offering misses away. [Music] Fouled off and they’ll do it again. Runners on the corners. No outs. [Music] Oh, nice stop at first from his knees. The throw throw pulls him off the bag and he’s safe. So, runners at the corners, nobody out. Tucker the next to hit. He’s already homered here in this one. [Applause] That’s a base hit. Run scores. Stringing them together. That’s three hits in a row. Anytime you rip a line drive the other way. You feel really good about what you did at the plate. You trusted your hands. You let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it. That’s great work right there. First and second, no outs. stepping in the long ball threat. Seiya Suzuki fly ball center field. Isbel [Music] makes the catch and there’s one gone. Now batting the center fielder Pete Crow Armstrong. And now Pete Crow Armstrong. This guy is one of the best athletes in the sport. [Applause] That one ripped. Fair ball. Bush around third. One run across. Headed to the plate. He’ll score. Two runs are in. Not in time. He’s safe. Gets the job done as he brings home a pair. First pitch fast ball. A great spot to do some damage. And he squared it up nicely. [Applause] So, one gone with a runner at third. Carson Kelly the next Cub to hit. Got a slider misses down and away. [Applause] And now two and nothing. He hasn’t wanted to challenge him. Both of those pitches off the plate away. Don’t expect anything down the heart of the plate. You may just have to be patient and take your walk here. And that one’s a little bit low. And that’s ball three. And ball four to a board. That just came apart right there. Four pitch walk and guy play was not going to help him out by swinging something out of the zone. Ian Hat will hit next. Hole for two in this one. line drive to short and caught. That at bat is a positive sign even though it probably doesn’t feel like it. He hit the ball hard, but it doesn’t always work out in your favor. Sometimes a defender is there to make a play. Swanson digs in. [Applause] rips one to right and that’s a fair ball. One run is in and he boots it coming home. He’ll score. Two runs are in. Waste no time there. He really shot that one down the right field line and somehow found a way to keep it from slicing. Foul. One thing that was great about the approach, his head was down all the way through the pitch and that’s how you do it. Manager out of the dugout now and it looks like we’ll see a change on the mound. Michael Laorenzan won’t go any further tonight and he’s responsible for the runner on second so the book isn’t closed on him yet. We’ll be right back. Now pitching for the Steven Cruz will take over here. I think it’s got to be a little tough coming in out of the pin when your guys are trailing so big on the scoreboard. Just doesn’t have the same intensity to it. But he’s got to find a way because these batters count the same for his stats obviously regardless of the score. Man at second here with two away. Here’s the second baseman, Nicoer. And first offering is fouled off. Plenty of offense in this one. Singy, I guess you’d say kind of what we expected though. Well, this was a game looking at the pitching matchup where you expected offense to score and not as lopsided as this. Um, but yeah, you definitely expected to see some offense coming up. Lined into right. Kaggleó makes the catch and that is the third out of the inning. So, in the end, 10 come to the plate. Six of them come around to score. We’re through five. It’s the Cubs eight and the Royals nothing. here at Wrigley Field. Top six. So up now for Kansas City, Kyle Isbel. Shota 31 years old and he was born in Japan. And that one fouled off. Now this is in the air down the line. Suzuki on the move and there’s one down. That’s just a really nice catch on the run right there. He saved extra bases for sure. If the pitcher’s his friend, he’ll give him a second to catch his breath before he’s ready to deal the next pitch. Now here’s the leadoff hitter for the Royals, Jonathan India. And that’s way high. And that is ball one. Liner snagged first. The battle number seven Bobby Wit Jr. Two outs. Base is empty. Bobby Wit Jr. steps in for the Royals. He’s one of the faster guys just by pure sprint speed in the majors. Misses off the inside. And that’s ball one. Two down, nobody on. And we’re the top half of the six. Right through there for a strike. [Music] Swing and a miss. That is strike two. So far, all we’ve seen in this at bat are fast balls. Look for him to slow it down right here ahead in the count. Two down. Doon gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. And that one almost hit him. Two and two. Swings through it and that’s a strike out. Royals go down one, two, three, and they’re on the short end of an eight nothing score. Back here at Wrigley Field, bottom of the sixth inning. And now it’s switch hitting third baseman Vidal Bruhan. And that’s off the inside edge. And that’s ball one. Poo. He never moved cuz he never had time to. But that kind of velocity, you’d prefer that pitcher work away. Next offering is in for a strike. No need to offer at that pitch until you get to two strikes. It’s just a low percentage of success when you want to try to go after that down and away pitch. So a foul ball makes it one and two. [Music] That one missed. Two strikes. Next one is off the plate and the count is filled up. [Applause] Towards first. Pasquantino and he takes it himself for the out. Good slider inside right there. Batter fighting to get there. Just rolled over it. Got the ground ball. So the lineup flips over and next for the Cubs, Michael Bush. First pitch misses. And that is out of play. Swinging a foul straight back. [Music] Blows the high heat past them. That’s a strikeout. Now batting Base is empty. Here’s Kyle Tucker. He’s already homerred in this game. And a strike right through there. That one in triple digits. The Cubs up big in this one here in the bottom of the sixth. One more time. Swing and a highf fly ball. Pretty well struck right field. Kaggle Leone raging back towards the wall onto the track and he makes the catch. No runs, no hits, no errors. We’re through six full. It’s the Cubs eight and the Royals nothing. This one isn’t exactly close. Chris, let’s go off script for a moment. Okay. Were we on script? Never. you growing up, who was your favorite big league mascot? The Philly fanatic. Still the best mascot. Is there a reason? Well, I love the Phillies and I love Mike Schmidt. Michael Jack Schmidt. 548 home runs. He was my favorite. Well, some people say you and the Philly fanatic kind of have some things in common. We have a similar body type. It’s true. Garcia. Mike El Garcia steps in for the Royals. Oh, he doesn’t get the call. Ball one. So, my dad told me that he had a bunch of Mickey man rookie cards and a whole bunch of valuable cards and his mom tossed them because what you know what did she know? Nope. So, I made my mom keep all my baseball cards and I really don’t have any that are valuable. And that story stunk by me anyway. And another ball. Three balls, no strikes. Base is empty, one away here in the top half of inning number seven. Ball four. Tried another curve but couldn’t locate it. Oh, that’s a really good take right there. And that’s just mentally prepared knowing that if it’s not on a TE, you’re going to take that pitch because you still have one more strike to work with. Not easy to lay off, but he did an excellent job in that plate appearance. This one smoked out to left. H makes the play and there’s two away. And now the right fielder Jack Kaggle. Jack Pagleon and he hits a ground ball right side. Tosses to first. Third out. This one pretty well decided at this point. Midway in inning number seven and it’s time to stretch. It’s the Cubs eight and the Royals nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. And now it’s going to be Suzuki Suzuki. Right down the shoot. It’s 0 and one. Car. I think that pitch surprised all of us. right down the middle. Doesn’t get a swing. Not very often you see a hitter lay off a cookie like that. And that one is lifted in the air. Kaggle Leone sizes this one up. Makes the grab. One down. Now batting center fielder Pete Crow Armstrong. Pete Crow Armstrong the next Cub to hit. I think when you contemplate him as a player, the first thing you think about is defense and you think about that great arm. I also think about the speed. If he can get on, that’s going to give one more thing for that pitcher to think about. Looked like it was a little bit up. Two and0. Really great change of speeds. as he goes off the off speed to the fast ball and the hitter doesn’t know what’s coming next in for a strike. It’s two and two. Oh, he’s really working that inside corner with the cutter. I tell you what, I hated that pitch. So tough to get the barrel to and to keep it fair. That just misses. Three balls, two strikes. Hammer base hit. These guys today are so great at handling velocity. They’re seeing high speeds day after day. And a nice job of turning that one around. And now Carson Kelly. [Applause] And that one upstairs. Ball one. Counts. One and0. There’s the strike. Swing and a miss as he was out front that time. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Fast ball is outside. swinging a drive deep right field and that is a foul ball man at first one away. Next pitch is outside [Applause] on the inside corner for called strike three. I guarantee he’s going to check the tape on that last pitch when he gets a chance because he thought it was ball four and he wasn’t wrong. I mean, it was a close pitch. Definitely not an easy call, but especially after a long at bat, that’ll drive you crazy getting rung up like that. And up next for Chicago in half. That one finds the zone. Strike one. Yeah, big swing and a miss. More and more guys are looking to slug regardless of the count. in this situation. We’ll keep a close eye on his approach. And that one is inside inside. Ball two. Cro Armstrong the runner at first with two gone. Right through there. Got him. That K is his third of the game. Cubs leave one as the lead holds at 8 to nothing. On the north side of Chicago, John Shami and Chris Singleton. Now the left fielder John Ra Shota back to work. Fast ball for a strike. Just missed. Swing and a miss and a count. One and two. One ball, two strike. Keeps the bat going with a foul ball and it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. Bounced up the middle. Fires to first on the run. Not in time. An infield knock to start the inning. Did a nice job getting there. Good throw, but very difficult to get anybody on that one as far as you had to go and throw, you know. Yeah, no question. Now a chance for Freddy Fee. Check swing called stripe. Nobody out. Runner at first on the ground is second. Might be two. There’s one on to Bush. It’s a double play. They made that double play look so easy, but it was far from routine. That’s the one thing about big leaguers. They make tough plays look simple. Two outs, space is empty. Kyle Isbel steps in for the Royals. Close one. Doesn’t get the call. One and0. [Music] And that’s a strike. Swing and a miss. And that’s strike two. One ball, two strikes. cut on and lifted in the air and that’ll get down for a hit. So the two out knock extends the inning and sends them back to the top of the order. Now it’s the second baseman Jonathan India 0 for three in this one. That one finds the zone. Strike one. popped up. BCH has a beat on it. He makes the grab and that’ll do it. Royals leave one. Still 8 nothing. And we’re back. And now it’s Danby Swanson. The shorts stop. Ganby Swanson. And there’s a strike. Good heater at 98. ball one there. So, a foul ball makes it one and two. It’s a tough pitch, but in terms of the best pitch you’re going to get to hit in the at bat, that fast ball was down enough where you’re going to catch up to one, that’s the one. When he elevates, guys aren’t touched it. Next pitch is downstairs. Stays alive. [Music] Battling here as he fouls it away. [Music] Fouled off again and it remains three and two. That one misses. So a lead off walk. Didn’t miss by much right there. Just couldn’t get the call off the inside corner. So man aboard and now Nico [Applause] in there and it’s 0 and one. 0 and one. Swinging a ball hit out towards left center field and that’ll fall for a base hit and out to a board. Up next for the Cubs the third base. So up now for Chicago. Vidal Bruhan Bruhan in for a strike 0 and one. Let’s go. Let’s go. Let’s go. Let’s go. Let’s go. No outs. Runners at first and second. [Music] spoils a two- strike pitch and he’ll see another [Music] rolled to short. Possible two ball to India second for one. Not in time at first. It’s a fieldielder’s choice. Well, an aggressive slide at second base, but it was legal. I like it because you’re trying to break up the double play and it looked like the slide impacted the throw a little bit. Nice job by the base runner. So digging in, Michael Bush. Fouled off left side. Here we go. That one finds the zone and it’s 0 and two. Swanson the runner at third. Bruhan over at first with one away. [Music] In the air right field. Kaggleó. He’s got it. Runner tagging from third. He’ll score the sack fly. And they now lead by nine. In that situation, you’re looking to get something up in the zone that you can put in the air. Worst case scenario, a sacrifice fly to drive in that runner from third. Now batting the next cup to hit [Applause] and a foul ball. [Music] Two outs. Fast ball for a strike. No ball. Two strikes. [Applause] Swing and a miss. Struck him out. He’s notched four strikeouts now. So, one run on one hit. No errors and a runner left. Ninth inning coming up. It’s the Cubs nine and the Royals nothing. Back here at the friendly confines. Now it’s the shortstop. Bobby Wit Jr. [Applause] Hard grounder into the outfield for a knock. First pitch swinging. Went up there with a plan to be aggressive. Couldn’t get any air under it, but he smoked that ball back up the middle. Timing was just perfect. Got great wood on it. And there was just no chance for the infielders with how hard he hit it. Made at first. And to the plate for Kansas City, Benny Pasquantino. And that gets the top of the zone for a strike. Oh, one’s the count. [Applause] And now one fast ball is outside. Rudder at first with no outs here. [Applause] Just missed. [Applause] swinging a foul out of play. Instead of letting the hitter get his arms extended, tied him up a little bit. Slightly up, slightly in on the ground to short. Could be two. Quickly to second for one onto Bush. It’s a double play. Oh man, what a smooth double play. That was a thing of beauty from start to finish. Last chance for the Royals. Here’s the third baseman, Mel Garcia. [Applause] And first offering is fouled off. [Applause] Two down. Nobody on. Ball in. [Music] [Applause] Hit to right and that should do it. He’s got it. Ball game and the Cubs slug their way to a win in this one. After a couple of times through the order, this team really figured it out with the bats. A huge fifth inning and that was all they really needed to get this victory today. a really nice job to pick up the W today. Nine nothing your final in this one. The Cubs go home a winner for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shami saying so long. Double move.
