🔴LIVE🔴Oakland Athletics VS Texas Rangers/July 21 / MLB The show 25

just ready to roll. Today’s starting pitcher, Jake Latz. What should we keep an eye on here? Well, he’s been a real quality starter for his club. And coming into this one, what stands out for me is that right-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 on the year. It seems that they have a hard time picking up his release point and tracking the ball into the zone. So, we’ll see how right-handers do against him in this one. Ready to go now. Here’s the second base, Lawrence Butler. Swinging a foul straight back [Music] and ball one. Was good pitch there. Really had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, he had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. Boo. Here’s a guy at the plate and I’m expecting to have a good game. He always seems to play better in road games. Next offering is downstairs. Really good take, especially with two strikes. Got him swinging for the strike out. Slider got him for strike three. Well, that right there is just a pitcher’s pitch. Tailing away from the hitter, lowing away with some good action at the end. You know, even if he gets the bat to that ball, it’s probably just a weak ground ball to the opposite side. I tell you what, that’s a tremendous two- strike pitch. One out. Base is empty. Ripped to short. Snagged on a bounce. Nicely done for the out. And time now to check out the A’s lineup. And no doubt a big factor in this series so far. Shay Langalers. Boo. He’s really been showing off the pop in this series so far. Two homers and you know he’d love to add on with another shot today. I’m interested to see how they approach him. Two down, base is empty. Next up for the A’s, Nick Curts. He’s been on fire at the dish lately. Hits in each of the last six games. First offering and it just misses. [Music] pulled hard, but it’s a foul ball. Lined into left center and that should be extra bases. Now he’ll turn for second and he’s in there. It’s a first inning double. Everything came together perfectly for him right there. pretty much a model swing on that one as he ripped it into the opposite field gap. And I’m sure he’s going to be watching that one back on video because that’s the kind of swing you want to bottle. So many positives that led to that knock. So the go-ahehead run in scoring position and next will be the cleanup hitter Brent Rooker right through there for a strike. Well, you always want to come out in the first inning try to put something up on the board. It’s a big two-out double right there. See if the cleanup man can drive him in and put a tally up there on the board. 01 now. And that’s outside. The strategy of winning a ball game when you can make that pitcher work a little more, expose himself by throwing pitches. That can be the key to winning perhaps later on. So, a good job of extending this inning, getting a knock with two outs to bring the number four hole hitter up. Man at second. This one high in the air to left center. Duran on the move to the alley. He’s got it. And that’ll do it. The A’s strand one. And now the Rangers will get their shot in a scoreless ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. Back in Arlington. And today’s starting pitcher, Jeffrey Springs. What should we keep an eye on here? Well, that whip is just below the league average, and that’s a good thing in this case, not allowing too many base runners. So, on most days, he’s going to go out there and compete and put his team in a position to win. And I expect to see that from him in this one today. Wyatt Langford leading things off and takes a strike. on the ground right side. Curts takes it to the bag. One gone. Bottom half of the first and now we take a look at the Rangers lineup. Singi, this righty heavy lineup must be licking their chops with a lefty on the mound. Well, to me, Boog, it shows the manager trying to set these players up to have a big game. Facing an opposite-handed pitcher, you only get a fraction of a second longer to see the ball and decide to swing. But that can be the difference between a line drive and a swinging strike. Cory Seager, the next to hit, takes ball one. That one’s in there. And it’s one and one. The one-1 is fouled off. He hasn’t gotten the result yet, but he’s got to feel pretty confident. Three foul balls in a row. He’s right on this pitcher that just misses and it’s two and two. Well, this is a guy that can be frustrating for pitchers because he fouls off so many pitches and grinds out the at bat. I’m sure there’s sometimes where a pitcher would rather just give up a first pitch single than have to waste six or seven pitches on one hitter [Music] and down on strikes. He battled for a long time, but it finishes with a strike out. You can’t be mad at yourself after an at bat like that one. Well, getting a good look at the pitcher here in the first inning isn’t a bad thing. I know he struck out, but you can live with that as long as the other hitters in this lineup can learn something from it. Marcus Simeon in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike. Pitch misses there. And that’s ball one. Two outs. Base is empty. Up the middle. Wilson throws to first in time and it’s a one, two, three inning. Rangers go down quickly there. Scoreless after one. Back at Globe Life Field. Second inning set to go. Here’s the power hitting catcher Shay Langalers. Let’s go Texas. Latz back to work. Latz measures 6’2 in. He features a fourseam fast ball, a slider, a change up, and he occasionally uses a curve. [Applause] Line drive caught. It’s never fun going back to the dugout after hitting a line drive that finds a glove. But you will get some high fives. You know, when you make great contact, you feel like you’ve done everything right. But in this game of baseball, not everything is in your control. Tyler Soderstrom stands in now and watches strike one. Just missed. Mike Filmore, our played umpire, very consistent with his zone. Chris, gets a lot of praise for that. He does, Boo. And I think that with any umpire, you really just want them to be consistent. Filillmore is a guy that does a good job back there in that way. So, people around the league really appreciate his consistency. [Applause] cuts and misses. It’s a strike out. He’s locked in at the plate when he’s using the whole field. He was out in front there. Just needs to let the ball travel a little more and his timing will be back on track. Good pitch for the strikeout. Here’s Gioella. That one inside and that’s ball one. Rangers. There’s a strike. The one-1 is fouled off. Second inning here. No score. Rangers. That one to first. Oh, can’t pick it up cleanly. Still fires to first. He makes the throw, but it’s not in time and they don’t get the outated. So, a man aboard, Max Schuman digs in now. Swang and a miss. There’s that change up. Urchella leads off first with two down to the inning. Rangers [Music] on the ground and it goes just foul. Next pitch is outside. Inside. Almost got him. Straighten him up a little bit. Two outs. swings and blasts one deep to left center and it one hops the wall coming home now. A relay to the plate and he’s out. Cut down and that ends the inning. Always exciting to see a play at the plate trying to score with two outs, but the tag just gets him in time and they cut down the run to end the inning. [Applause] And we’re back. Bottom half of inning number two. And now the right fielder, Adoleis Garcia. Foul ball there. [Music] Next offering is fouled back. Fast ball is outside on the inside corner for called strike three. Everything in that at bat was away until the final pitch. Three pitches in a row on the outside part of the plate and of course that gets you conditioned to look out there maybe a little bit out on your toes. So, a great call on pitch number four to just hit that inside part of the plate and freeze him for strike three. Kyle Hagashioa stepping in for the Rangers. And that’s off the inside edge. Ball one. The pitch swing and a liner foul off to the right. The 1-1 is fouled off and that one missing inside. A sharp slider in the air left field down the line and that will drop foul. One down, base is empty. Fights it off. He’ll see another. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. It’s in and out of his glove. Gets off a throw and it’s in time. It wasn’t the smoothest play you’ll see today, but they still get the out. Jonah. Jonah stepping in for the Rangers. And it’s fouled away. And a big swing and a miss. Benny really sells the change up with that arm action. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Rangers go down in order. Nothing doing for the Rangers. We’ll move to the third with no score. And welcome back to the ballpark. And now here is Denzel Clark. Rangers. And the first offering a fast ball for a strike out to short. Seager slings it across. Leadoff hitter gone in the third. Good slider inside right there. Batter fighting to get there. Just rolled over it. Got the ground ball. Now here’s the leadoff hitter for the A’s. Lawrence Butler. Went down on strikes his first time through. Rangers. And the slider just misses. Go Rangers. Top of the third, no score. And there’s a breaking ball that drops in there. Man, this guy’s got a great feel for his breaking ball today. Swing and a miss. And that’s strike two. Foul ball. Another two- two upcoming. Keeps the atbat going with a foul ball. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Pitch misses and now it’s filled up. Three and two. Cut on and miss. Struck him out. He didn’t make it easy for him on the mound, but they still get the strike out. Man, I really like the ability to bounce back right there after not getting the call. He probably should have gotten him. He didn’t let it affect his focus. And he came back with another good pitch to get him swinging. And now the shorts stop. Jacob Wilson 0 for one. He grounded out in his first at bat. A swing and a miss. And that’s strike one. Come on. Two down, nobody on. That’s to third. Has some trouble with it. The throw won’t get there in time and he’s on at first. Number 16, Nick Curts getting ready to hit. Doubled in his first AB. Off the mark there. One and0. Two outs just off the inside edge. Looks like he’s being a little cautious with him in this at bat after doubling the first time up. Doesn’t want to make another mistake. Wilson off of first with two away. Instead of letting the hitter get his arms extended, tied him up a little bit. Slightly up, slightly in. Spoils that one and it remains two and two. You can see he was trying to stay back long enough to handle the off speed pitch, but just a little tardy on the fast ball. And that’s downstairs and outside. Great RBI spot here. Just got to stay focused on the pitch. The runner will be in motion, so something in the gap should definitely score it. [Music] So now two on and two outs. Well, interesting. and he went with the off speed and walked the hitter. Man, you got to challenge the guy with the fast ball. First and second, two outs. Next up for the A’s, Brent Rooker. He’s 0 for one. Two on, two outs. And a bat like this is almost over as it begins. In this situation, you have no idea what the next pitch is going to be. You just got to hope that you can make contact. Two on, two outs in the dirt. And an excellent job keeping it right there. Come on, punch him out. First and second, two down. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. He’s notched four strikeouts now. A lot of adrenaline. We can see it right there. And sometimes you just got to let it out. That’s an outstanding job of taking that, executing, and getting out of a tough inning. Back in Arlington. And now it’s going to be Cody Freeman looking for his first big league hit right here. First pitch misses. Fast ball for a strike. Next offering upstairs. just missed [Applause] and that finds the mark on the outside corner. Three and two now. Got him. make it four strikeouts for him on the bump today. Wow, that’s a tough call for the hitter, but the pitcher will take that all day long. Not quite in the strike zone, but he found a spot that the umpire is going to at least for now allow him to get that call. So, hitters are going to have to make an adjustment, but pitchers are going to learn from those things and really try to exploit him if they can. Digging in, Justin Foscu in there for a strike at the top of the zone. ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. Ezekiel Durant the next to hit. He’s someone that you might not describe as having elite level speed, but he can absolutely move and it is a factor in his game. Boo, this guy’s definitely a plus runner, but what I love about him is that he goes all out every single time. Never takes a break. It’s guys like that, even though they don’t have the elite speed, the fact that they’re consistent with it, they make moves on the base paths. Knee high. That’s in for a strike. Foul ball still 0 and two. Hit on the ground. Might be two. There’s one. Back to the pitcher covering. It’s a double play. Nicely done. And that’ll do it. One hit in the inning, but no one left. Three innings complete, no score. Back at Globe Life Field, John Shambi with Chris Singleton. And set to lead off the fourth, Sha Langers. All right, Texas. [Music] And that one missing low. You know, these A’s just lacking discipline at the plate in this ball game. So many of their outs have come from weak contact on pitches they’re chasing outside of the strike zone. You can’t do much of anything with those locations. And that’s been true again today. Cracks his bat and pops him up, reaching for it and brings it in. And as a pitcher, when the hitters are swinging at everything, you feel no need to challenge inside the zone. You just keep working the corners and expanding that strike zone and beyond. And they just keep eating right out of your hand. And the Rangers manager making his way towards the mound now as he will make the move. Jake Latz won’t go any further tonight. And that’s an excellent job from the reliever in the starting role today. Gave him some length. Back with a new arm after this. Robert Garcia gets the call from the pen. And one thing on him, he’s been really good this season at keeping the ball in the park. Not an easy guy to take deep. Next up for the A’s, Tyler Soderstrom. He was a strikeout victim his first time. Bullpen action for the Rangers. Jack Lighter appears to be getting loose. Rocker also throwing. Fourth inning underway. No score. And a swing and a miss. I think he was sitting off speed there. headed towards the corner and he can’t quite get there. It’s a foul ball. Foul ball still a one and two count. [Music] And a swing and a miss. And there’s two away. Now here’s Gio Urchello. Reached on an infield single his first time. That’s fouled off. [Music] And takes low for ball one. O2 fast ball way out of the zone. I think he’s trying to speed him up. Got to stay back. Off speed’s probably coming. The one-two. Two down, nobody on. Top half of inning number four. That one 95 to finish him off. Three up, three down for him there. And midway in the fourth, we’re tied nothing. Nothing. And we’re back. Bottom four. And now it’s the Rangers leadoff hitter Wyatt Langford. Langford swinging a foul out of play. just missed. Next pitch is outside center field. Clark sizing this one up. He makes the grab. One down. Now batting the short. Here comes Cory Seager. Struck out looking at his first at bat. [Music] Ball one and a pitch inside. Fouled off. He was late. Close but called the ball and a count. Two and one. the other way and he beats the shift and it stays fair. Makes the turn and heads for second and he’ll pull in there with a stand up double. Not much to this one other than just a willingness to go the other way and put the ball in play. That’s a team at bat right there. Nice job of staying back and letting the ball get deep. Now, let’s see if they can put up the first run of the game. One out, runner at second. Simeon will hit next. Ground it out his first time. Hit hard should be extra bases. Around third, he will score and the Rangers take the lead. Well, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. Well, we saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. One down now. It’s the right fielder. Adoleis Garcia struck out looking his first time. Fouled off left side. man at second. There’s a swing and a drive. That’s down. One hops off the wall. Runner from second crosses the play. It’s two nothing. Stringing them together. That’s three hits in a row. That pretty much split the zone down the middle. And those are the ones where you got to make them pay. [Applause] man at second with one away. Kyle Hagashi stepping in for the Rangers and that is out of play. [Music] That’s inside. One ball, one strike. Just missed. [Music] Pitch is in there and the count is two and two. That one hammered left field. That’s back. Gone. Home run number five on the season. And they add on. It’s four nothing. [Applause] I wasn’t sure he hit that one as hard as he needed to to get it out of here, but it had just enough behind it for the homer. What an attempt at the wall, though. He really gave a terrific effort to try and bring that one back. [Applause] Jonah now at the plate just off the inside edge. Well, a really rough inning out there on the mound and uh this is one of those where you learn a lot about a guy’s toughness and his ability to turn the page and keep pressing forward. Four runs already in the frame. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. Out in front with the swing and that is strike one. Action in the pen down there. JP Sears, the left-handed reliever appears to be getting loose. Lopez getting loose as well. fights that one away. Still one and two on the ground right side and that’s just fouled. Swing and a base hit. So a man aboard now with one away. Up next for the Rangers, third base. Next up for Texas, Cody Freeman. And there’s one thing on his mind this at bat. Getting that first hit at the big league level. That’s out to center field. Clark, hauls it in and there’s two away. Up next for the Rangers, first baseman Justin Foscu. Up next for the Rangers, Justin Foscu. One for one with a single so far. Rangers. Tap foul at the plate. He off of first with two away. This one in the air right field. Rooker on his way over. reaches for it, but it’s fouled. Pitch misses inside. One and two to Cal. And a swing and a miss. And that’s that. So they move out in front after a fourrun outburst. Onto the top of the fifth we go. It’s the Rangers four and the A’s nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. We go to the top of the fifth. Now it’s the DH. Max Schuman Garcia back to work and a breaking ball drops in for a strike. Schuman in his second season, 27 years old. And he’s usually in the outfield. today. He’s the DH. Ground ball to the right side and foul ball. Come on, Rangers. [Music] That’s down and in. A slider missed. This is a very important inning here. After scoring all those runs, you want your pitcher to come out and just mow them down. The offense has worked hard, it shut down any time. Fans, another. And that’s three straight strikeouts. Well, pitchers have become so much better at commanding that high fast ball. It used to be that a lot of pitchers didn’t like to throw it because it’d throw off their release point and their mechanics and they’re aimed at keeping everything at the knees, get ground balls. But because hitters get a swing path that can lift balls at the knees up in the air and over the fence, this pitch has come back into play. And they are doing some special things with it. Oh, one down. Just missed. Base is empty. One away. And we’re in the top of the fifth. Come on. Ground ball right side and that one finds its way through. Now batting second base Lawrence Butler. Back to the top of the lineup. Lawrence Butler digs in now who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts inside. Ball one. to short. Could be two. The flip. There’s one double play. And that’ll do it for the inning. No runs, one hit, no errors, and no one left. Last half of the fifth coming up, it’s the Rangers four and the A’s nothing. pitching for the pitcher out here, JP Sears. And as relievers go, he’s not a big strikeout guy. Tries to force weak contact, so command and execution are huge for him. Ezekiel Durant stepping in for the Rangers. He hit into a double play his first time up. That’s a strike. 0 and one. Well, these Rangers really impressed me with the quality of their bats in this one. It’s been fun getting a chance to see them go to work. It looked to me like they really ah that hit him and the leadoff man is aboard to start the inning. So, the Rangers batting order turns over and the batter now Wyatt Langford for two in this one. ground ball right side and it goes just foul. This is one of those situations the infielders have to pre-plan and understand that the ball’s got to be hit extremely hard right at them if they’re going to have a chance to go for a double play. Rudder at first with no outs here. Let’s keep it going. Hacks and misses. It’s a strikeout. Cory Seager. Now, the Dodgers made him a first round pick back in 2012. 18th overall that year for Seager Boog. and Carlos Koreah, Byron Buckston, Marcus Strowman, just a few other firstrounders from that class. I’d say pretty solid group. He might want to steal second in this spot, but he’s dealing with a catcher that has one of the best pop times in the game. He needs to pick his spot very wisely. Next offering is in for a strike. late with the swing there. He got away with one there, but he knows he can’t go into that spot very often against a guy like this. Fouled off and they’ll do it again. fouls it off. Still one and two. [Music] Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. Hanging in there pretty good against the lefty misses. Two balls, two strikes. Eighth pitch of the at coming up. Got him swinging. Well done behind the dish. Up next for the Rangers. Second base. Here is Marcus Simeon. Let’s go Rangers. And a strike. Now, if he’s going to steal second, you want him to go early in the count. That way, he’s not a distraction to the hitter at the plate. Go ahead and get it out of the way so the hitter can focus on the pitch. Right side. And that’s just foul. Rangers. Fights that one away. And the count remains 0 and2. And they’ll do it again. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. Here we go. gets a piece and stays alive. Five foul balls in a row. I have no idea what that feels like. But you got to love this battle. Just wondering who’s going to blink first. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. That K is his third of the game. So it’s no runs, no base hits, no errors, and one left on base. We’re through five. It’s the Rangers four and the A’s nothing. All set for the top of the sixth. Now it’s the shortstop, Jacob Wilson. The emmo for him is contact. A guy who’s going to deliver average. Not a ton of power. He’s looking to hit a line drive somewhere. Well, that’s why it’s a team. And when you look at a lineup, he’s a great two-hole hitter or a guy that you could put at the bottom to help turn that lineup over to have some momentum for your top hitters coming up to the plate. Movement in the bullpen. Jack Lighter, the hardthrowing righty, is up and loosening. All right, Rangers in the air left field. Durant sizes this one up, puts it away for the out. Now batting number 16. Next up for the A’s, Nick Curts. [Music] That’s too low. And that’s ball one. [Applause] On the ground to the left and foul ball. The Rangers leading by four and we’re the top half of the sixth. swing and a miss. Struck him out at a slider and there’s two gone. Brent Rooker up next for the A’s. Right fielder Brent Rooker. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. They had a swing and a miss there. He finds himself in a tough situation early. Just got to try to simplify it. Take a knock the other way if you can. Outside low. It’s a ball and two strikes. Too close for me partner to take that O2 fastball. But for whatever reasons, he let it go by. He’s still in the at bat. I don’t think he’ll let the next one go. He goes down looking. So, no runs, no hits, no errors, and no one left. To the bottom of the six we go. 456 coming up. It’s the Rangers four and the A’s nothing. Back in Arlington now. Here is Adoleis Garcia. Adole Garcia off the plate. And that’s ball one. He swings and drives one out to deep left field. And that one is gone. Adoleis Garcia blasts one out. His 14th of the year. And they boost their lead. It’s five zip. That one just sounded different. And it might have been the loudest moment yet. Man, my ears are ringing. And I could feel that swing from the booth. Let’s take another look at it, but this time with the help of Stackcast. Well, this one wasn’t hit that high, but when you can launch it at 111 mph off the bat and get some backspin, it’ll carry enough to get out of here. And next is the designated hitter, Kyle Higashioa. That’s off the mark and it’s one and0. And another ball. liner and that should be extra bases around first and hustling for second. In safely, it’s a double and his second hit. But when you fall behind in the count, you’ve got to come into the zone and then guys have a better chance of hitting the ball hard like he did right there. [Applause] Now the catcher for the Rangers, Jonah. One for two. That clips a corner. One on, nobody out. A run in here in the bottom of the six. in there. Got him looking and that one split the plate. Now batting. So next to hit for Texas, Cody Freeman. It’s interesting. He plays kind of a a power spot defensively, but runs pretty well. So when you’re looking at that position, you’re not expecting someone that has maybe above average speed, but he does. And I think that skill set really upgrades the position because when you have that kind of speed, it makes the whole team that much better. That’s down and in. A slider missed. What about a playing another position on defense? One that would require a little more range. Absolutely. And I think if push came to shove where they had to make a a move during a game, it’d surprise a lot of people. You might even be able to put him in center field. Foul ball still a one and two count. Come on, let’s go. This one in the air. Urella. Nabs it. That’s out number two. Good hard fast ball up in the zone right there. They look really good coming in, but so hard to get on top of as a hitter. Justin Foscu stepping in for the Rangers. There’s the strike. This one drilled to left. No doubt about it as they add on more. Gone. Gails circle the bases. It’s their second home run of the inning and they throw a pair on the board. It’s 7 nothing. That’s their third home run of the game. They’re having a lot of fun at the plate in this one. They’ve got the long ball working for them on autopilot. [Applause] Well, I’m sure there’s a big grin on his face right now, Boo. He’s probably had some of those that didn’t stay fair, but off the bat, it looked like it was going to foul. Was able to keep it in there, tucked it nicely, and he gets the jog around the bases. Good for him. [Applause] There comes a skipper out of the dugout and he’s ready to make the move. JP Sears won’t go any further. We’ll be back in a minute with a new arm on the mound. Awesome. And we’ve got ourselves a pitching change. Number 50. He’s into the game with the bases empty. Yeah, baby. Now at the plate, Ezekiel Duran. And first off is fouled off. And there’s a foul ball and one and two. lifted in the air. Left field pretty well struck. Brings it in for the third out. But two round tripers in this inning. The long ball was working. It’s now 7 nothing. Well, this game isn’t very close. singy. Let’s see if we got any messages from those tuning in today. I know we got some good stuff in there. Do you collect baseball cards? You know, when I was a kid, I used to put them in my back tire of my bicycle so it would sound like a motorcycle. Probably ruined some good cards back then, but don’t really have much of a collection. The other day I came across a binder that my wife had in one of the drawers and my son’s got some baseball cards. So, we’ll be looking to see if there’s any kind of retirement income in there. Hit in the air center field. Langford and puts the squeeze on that one. And there’s one away. Now batting leftielder Tyler. Tyler Soderstrom up next for the A’s. Cut on and lifted in the air. makes the catch for the out. Now batting third base. Two outs. Base is empty. Gorella steps in. Come on Rangers and foul ball. All right, Rangers and the 01. Two down, nobody on here in the top half of inning number seven. [Music] Spoils a two- strike pitch. And he’ll see another. That one missed. Next offering down in the dirt. Hard ground ball base knock. And that keeps the inning alive. Max Schuman getting ready to hit. That misses the zone. One and0. Urella the runner at first with two gone. Rangers inside. Just missed. And another ball. That one clips the outside corner. That’s strike one. You got this. Check. Swing. Called. Strike. 3-2. Two out. Runner on first. Lot of movement in the infield. Hitters got to stay focused on the pitch. Ground ball up the middle. Tosses to first. And that is the inning. This one pretty well decided at this point. Midway in inning number seven. And it’s time to stretch. It’s the Rangers seven and the A’s nothing. Back at Globe Life Field, set for the last half of the seventh. And now it’s the Rangers leadoff hitter, Wyatt Langford. That’s in there. And that’s strike one. And that’s outside. Back to back breaking pitches away. You get the feeling as a hitter that the pitcher is afraid of you, that he doesn’t want to challenge you. So, I think the confidence level is raised right here. Next offering is in for a strike. Well, it looks like he’s wanting to work the upper part of the strike zone. What does that mean? Top hand better be working for the hitters. Adjust that side a little bit. Give yourself a chance to hit. Caught him looking for the K. Here’s Cory Seager. One for three. With this kind of lead, he can swing freely. Try to hit the ball out of the park. do what he loves to do. Check swing. Tried to hold up. Now it would appeal to third. Did not go. So two balls and no strikes. That one pushed to the left and fouled. There’s the strike. Strike three and that’s two in a row. Well, he’s going to have some thinking to do when he leaves the ballpark after this one. That was his third strike out and this one looking obviously. So, he’s been a little overmatched. He’s got to find a way just to be more competitive up there at the plate. Two down, base is empty. Next up for Texas, Marcus Simeon. There’s the strike. The Rangers up big in this one here. The bottom of the seventh. A little out front there as he swings through it. Well, two outs and a chance to put up a zero on the scoreboard here. And that’s not something that’s come easy for this staff in this one. Rips that one to right and makes the play and that’s out number three. And the Rangers set down in order and they hold a seven nothing lead. Sean Armstrong into the game. Compared to some days, this is a pretty low leverage appearance for him, so he should be fairly free and easy out there. Still have to keep yourself sharp and attack the strike zone. Now, Denzel Clark, this is a guy who’s in the lineup first and foremost because of what he contributes defensively, Chris. And when you talk about preventing runs from being scored, this guy is a big contributor. And that one lifted in the air, center field, Langford under this one. Hauls it in for the out. Almost a loud start to the inning on that first pitch. Man, he’s going to want that one back. No doubt. Now, here’s the leadoff hitter for the A’s, Lawrence Butler. 0 for three in this one. On the ground to third. Tosses across to first. Got him. Now, the number two hitter, Jacob Wilson. Sing. You talk about a guy that has all the skills. The range is really good, but the arm just stands out and he makes all the plays. And that one misses up and in. And that is ball one. Rangers. The shorts stop takes the ball. and because of that big power arm is able to play a little bit deeper, make throws from the outfield grass all the way across the diamond and still get a pretty good runner. That’s impressive. That missed by a lot. Three balls in a strike. That clips a corner. [Music] swing and a high-fly ball down the right field line. Brings it in. And that is that. And we’re back. And now the right fielder, Adoleis Garcia. Adolei and a base hit into right center field and a good start to the inning. Now batting now here’s the Rangers DH Kyle Hagashioa. He’s already homerred here in this one. And that’s a base hit. And out to a board. Now batting catcher Jonah. Up next for the Rangers. Jonah. And there’s a ball. Rangers swinging a foul back. That’s out of play. No outs. Runners at first and second. Come on, Rangers. Swing at a line drive. Base hit it to left field. rounds third headed for the plate. One run is in. Runner holds it third. So just one across on the play. Comes through with the RBI. Fast ball pretty much middle middle and that’s what you fall asleep dreaming about as a hitter. So no surprise he put a great swing on it. Next to hit, Cody Freeman. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Well, he’s just given up three straight hits and now behind in this count to this hitter. Might be a good time for somebody to call a timeout. Maybe the pitching coach to go out there and talk to him just a little bit. Next offering upstairs. This is a situation where the hitter is looking for something up in the zone that he can get his arms extended. What you have to be careful of is that pitch that’s up that’s in on your hands. That’ll pop you up in the infield and that’s exactly what the pitcher wants. Next offering is in for a strike. I think ultimately you want to tie him up, get the ball in on the plate so that he can’t get the barrel to it and hit it to the outfield. Check swing went around and now two balls and two strikes. You got this. Just misses there. That’s a really good take. Foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch. Plenty of offense in this one. Singy, I guess you’d say kind of what we expected, though. Well, this was a game looking at the pitching matchup where you expected offense to score and not as lopsided as this. Um, but yeah, you definitely expected to see some offense coming up. Bases loaded, nobody out. So, next to hit for Texas, Justin Foscu. He’s already homerred in this game. Fast ball for a strike at 95. Tough situation right here. So important as a pitcher to get ahead in the count as he did right there. Fast ball is outside. Kashio the runner at third. Heim over at second. Freeman at first with no outs. and misses inside. In situations like these, the air can get really thin up there at the plate. Got to find a way to breathe and slow everything down. One more time, baby. Ground ball right side. Could be two to second. There’s one safe at first. They won’t get them both. And the runner comes in from third. manager out of the dugout now and he will make a move to dip into the A’s bullpen. Number 50 will depart and the line not closed on him yet as he’s responsible for the runners on base. Back with a new pitcher after this pitching. So a new pitcher on the mound for the A’s, Elvis Alvarado. Well, they need someone to stop the bleeding and keep this score right where it is. Seems like a tough task today with the way this lineup is swinging. It Ezekiel Durant stepping in for the Rangers. Ezekiel Durant. And that one just misses a ball and no strikes. That two seam fast ball is usually coupled with a slider away. And when a hitter’s conscious of the pitch in, it’s hard for him to cover middle away. And that’s where a pitcher can really finish off that batter. Gets the call and the count one and one. Swing and a ball hammered left field. That’s back there. One hops off the wall. Should be extra bases. Headed for the plate. He’ll score. Two runs are in. Picks himself up a couple of ribbies. Got a fast ball middle of the plate. Jumped all over it. Absolutely smoked that ball. Back to the top of the order now. Here’s the center fielder, Wyatt Langford. And first offering is fouled off man at second. Foul ball. Let’s go. And a base hit up the middle. Coming home. He’ll score. And it’s an RBI single. And the league continues to grow. We don’t see this a whole lot anymore where hitters with two strikes are willing to shorten up, tighten up, and try to hit the ball back up the middle other way. He was trying to hit that hole, I believe. Very good at bat with two strikes. Hit hard but foul off to the left. Not close with that one. And one and one. Offense exploding for five so far in the inning here. The bottom half of the eighth inning. And that misses ball two. on the ground right side and it goes just foul the 2-2. So Sie suffers the strike out. Now it’s Marcus Simeon Alvarado 26 years old. They got him off of waiverss earlier this season. And that is in for a strike and it’s 0 and one. in the dirt. So, a foul ball makes it one and two. And a foul ball. He stays alive. Next pitch is outside. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. [Music] Off the mark there and it’s three and two. Oh, that two seam fast ball is a great pitch from a right-hander to a right-handed batter. Just really teases the inside part of the plate. Runs in on the hands. Two outs. Got him. That’ll end the inning after a lot of scoring. But nine batters hit in the inning. Five come around to score through eight full. It’s the Rangers 12 and the A’s nothing. Ed, welcome back to the ballpark. And here is Nick Curts. Armstrong back to work and he hits a ground ball right side and he handles it himself for the out. Now batting rightielder Brent Rooker. Brent Rooker up next for the A’s. 0 for three with two strikeouts and a fly out. Swag a popup foul out of play off to the right side. That’ll find the stands. right side hard hit. Simeon toss over to first and a couple of quick outs. Up next for the A’s catcher Shay Langelers. So they’re down to their final out. And now here’s the A’s catcher, Shay Langalers. Come on. Just off the outside edge. Ball one [Music] right through there for a strike. Next offering is in for a strike. Armstrong is just one strike away. Two down to just misses and it’s two and two. That turns out to be a really good take right there, but you don’t want to end this game with the bat on your shoulder. And that just misses. [Music] Got him. And that’s the ball game. Well, we saw complete domination in this one. The offense exploded for a blowout. And then the pitching staff nails, lock down the opponent. This team did everything right today. 12 nothing your final here in this one. For Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show, I’m John Shami. Thanks for joining us.
