MLB LIVE🔴 San Diego Padres vs Miami Marlins – Jul 21, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO

Welcome to Marlins Way, where we find Loone Depot Park. We’ve got a perfect night for baseball on the show. It’s the San Diego Padres’s taking on the Miami Marlins. First pitch coming at you right after the break. And now, please welcome your Miami Marlin just about ready to go. And today’s starter, Yuri Perez. And singing, we were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots. I’ve just been so impressed with when it seems like there’s more pressure, he’s more calm and settles in. He’s done an incredible job with runners in scoring position. Most guys, they get a little tight, they start to aim the baseball, but for some reason he gets looser, the ball comes out of his hand with more life, and he’s able to wiggle off the hook of, you know, tough situations and get his team back in the dugout. That’s in there. And the count one and one with Tatis at the plate. We’re looking at a player that is never going to be considered boring. He’s an electric player that manages to make plays most players wouldn’t consider trying. And he plays the game his own way. It’s a big reason why he’s considered such a fan favorite. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Went back to the fast and it was effective. Luis Arise stands in. Arise in there and it’s 0 and one. Arise. in his sixth season, batting second in today’s lineup. And they went out and made a trade for him last season. That misses and the count even one and one. Just missed. One out. Base is empty. gets the call. It’s two and two. Two balls, two strikes. Good job to fight that one off. Two on the way. And the slider just misses. Really good take, especially with two strikes. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. On the ground right side. Edwards throws to first. Two quick outs in the top of the first here tonight as we take a look at the Padres’s lineup. number singing. This righty heavy lineup is a bit unusual against a right-handed pitcher. Yeah, Boo certainly bucks the old conventional wisdom and I’m not sure I see the vision from the manager on this one. You’re not exactly putting your players in the best situation to succeed when you roll out a lineup like this. Maybe they’ve seen something on video that tells them there’s a weakness to exploit. Perhaps that’s it. Manny Machado stands in now. Looks at that one inside. He never moved cuz he never had time to. With that kind of velocity, you’d prefer that pitcher work away. Next offering away upstairs. Two out space is empty. And that one is lifted in the air. Sanchez ranging after it. Brings it in for the third out. Onto the bottom of the first. No score. Back here in Miami, today’s starting pitcher, U Darvish. What’s the word on him? Yeah, he’s definitely had a struggle so far this year as evidenced by that inflated whip, but he’s going to have to find a way to limit the base runners, put his team in a position to win a ball game. So, we know he’s prepared. We know this guy is a competitor, and we’ll watch how he works in this one. Xavier Edwards, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. And that is out of play. [Music] The 1-1 is fouled off. [Music] Check his swing. Appeal down to third and he held back according to Dave Lawrence. Darbish kicks, delivers. That’s a little bit low. [Music] [Applause] cut on and lifted in the air and it drops in. So, a runner aboard to start the inning. That exact that pretty much the zone down the middle and those are the ones where you got to make a pay. Now, the number two hitter, Jesus Sanchez. in for a strike. Went with the sweeper. One’s the count. Edwards gets his lead at first. Nobody out. Darvis checks on the runner. Edwards dives back in safely. kicks and deals. This one smashed down the right field line and power ball. Pitch misses. One and two to count. Ruer at first with no outs here. fights that one away. Still one and two. That’s down and in. That’s a really good take right there. Slider down and in. Very difficult to get on the same plane and do anything with. [Music] Comes a 2-2. Fights it off. He’ll see another foul ball. Another 2-2 upcoming. up the middle. Glacius not in time. He’s safe. A perfect example right there. That plate discipline, it pays off. The deeper he gets into account, the more comfortable he becomes and he usually wins the battle. [Applause] First and second, no outs. Augustine Ramirez, the next up for the Marlins. In there for strike one. [Applause] Fast for a strike. First and second here. No outs. Swing and a miss. And he struck him out. And that is a big first out. Wow. Just great bikes to that slider. Real hard out of the zone and he just couldn’t hold up the swing. You know, as a hitter, that pitch is really hard to take and there’s just not much you can do with it. You know that. But you don’t want to get rung up by the umpire. And next will be the cleanup hitter, Kyle Starders. That one misses. Ball one. [Applause] Two on, one out. And he swings through that one. Yeah, I don’t think anyone’s got good numbers swinging at pitches in that location. [Applause] That one’s in there. And that is strike two. Fouls it back with two strikes, one out. Runners at first and second. That misses the zone. Yeah, that’s ball two. Way to lay off that pitch down. [Applause] That missed by a lot. And it’s three and two. Otto Lopez. in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. [Applause] Drilled in the air high and deep right field. That one carrying gone way up into the upper deck. Into the second deck it goes. Home run number 20 on the year. It’s three nothing. He kept swinging and it paid off. Well, that was a battle boo and he just kept taking his cuts. Finally squared one up. Knew what pitch he wanted to hit. Spent on some other pitches in this bag. Was very patient, but it paid off. Now it’s the shortstop. Otto Lopez not getting the results he’s wanted at the plate recently under the Mendoza line so far this month. That one back up the middle and it gets through. So, a man aboard now with one away. [Applause] Liam Hicks getting ready to hit [Applause] up and in. And that is ball one. Counts. One and0. man at first, one away. [Applause] A swing and a miss. And that’s strike one. I got one ball, one strike. Double play ball to second. On to Bogarts, but safe at first. It’s a fieldielder’s choice. Dane Meyers digs in now. He’s going to finish with a new careerhigh in stolen bases. Chris, lots of pitches thrown in this first inning. And it’s kind of that nightmare scenario for starting pitching. But you know what? It’s still early enough. He can settle in. He can get some length if he just cleans up his mechanics a little bit. When you’re struggling out there on the mound, hitters know that there’ll be plenty of opportunities within the at bat to try to get something to hit hard. Yet he’s down 02 as he swings through it. Spin rate’s outstanding on that high fast ball. Really tough to hit. Fast ball is outside. [Applause] swings through it and that’s a strike out. But the biggest swing of the inning comes right here. A three-run homer. It’s now 3 nothing. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. New inning getting started and the batter will be the shortstop. Xander Bogarts. Bogart Perez back to work. Bogarts who wears that number two on his back for his idol Derek Jeter. That’s a strike and the count is 0 and two. Ricky Holiday umpire behind the dish. known as pretty fair umpire for both hitters and pitchers. Yeah, I think that’s right, Boo. There is a little inconsistency on the corners of the plate. You can’t always be sure how it’s going to go with those borderline pitches as the game progresses. And ball one. Really good slider. He’s up there just hoping that it ends up off the plate away. This one in the air. picks and out number one on the grab. Boy, that was a hanging breaking ball right there. I think he tried to do a little bit too much. Sometimes those eyes can get really big. I think his swing broke down as well and that’s what caused him to pop it up. And now Jackson Merrill that misses the zone. One and0. Just off the plate. [Music] Instead of letting the hitter get his arms extended, tied him up a little bit. Slightly up, slightly in. On the ground to third. Fair ball. That exists. The second just a simple ground ball the other way that had eyes on it. Man, sometimes that’s all you need to do. Just let the ball travel. Put the ball in play and just hope it finds a hole. Runner on at first with one gone. Here’s the veteran second baseman Jose Glacius. Right through there for a strike. [Applause] Give it to her. [Applause] The next offering misses and that’s ball one. One ball, two strikes to count. Let’s go Miami. And that’s outside and it remains two and two. Merrill over at first with one away. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. and down on strikes. That’s out number two. I’m not saying it it wasn’t a strike or, you know, it was a ball, whatever, but just the location with that velocity. It’s hard enough even if the velocity is not great, but that velocity, that location, tip your cap. Now it’s the DH Luis Compusano looking for his first big league hit right here. Ruer takes off. Pitch misses in. Throw to second. Not in time. He’s there easily. When your catcher is not a great thrower, you have to do a better job at controlling the running game. And that’s throwing over. That’s stepping off. Doing whatever you can to try to keep that base stealer’s rhythm off. Well, they weren’t able to do it right there. They’re going to have to make some type of adjustment. Our players are going to be running all game. Two outs and one in scoring position. And that one fouled off. Man on second. Two down. And a foul ball. All right, Miami. And down on strikes he goes. That K is his third of the game. One left for San Diego. They trail it here. 3 nothing. [Applause] Bottom of the second. Here is the rookie third base. Grab Paulie. That’s a little high. Ball one. There’s the strike. So a foul ball makes it one and two. That one inside. Look out. swings through that one. It’s a strike out. He’s locked in at the plate when he’s using the whole field. He was out in front there. Just needs to let the ball travel a little more. His timing will be back on track. Good pitch for the strikeout. Nick Forz the next to hit. That to right. Tatiz after it. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. Out the foul number nine, second baseman Xavier. And now for the Marlins, Xavier Edwards, one for one with a single and a run scored so far. That’s in there. And that is strike one. The strong second inning is a confidence builder for him. A relief for his manager. Doesn’t have to get into that bullpen quite as early. He’ll one and that’s through there for a strike in the air left field down the line. Nice grab on the run. That is the inning. Nothing doing for the offense that time. We play too full. It’s the Marlins three and the Padres’s nothing. All set for the start of the so digging in now for San Diego. Bryce Johnson Johnson and that drops in for a strike. There’s a good change up to hit up in the zone. I don’t think he recognized it. I’m sure he’d love to have that one back. Swing and a miss as he was out front that time. [Applause] Next offering upstairs. I don’t like to say he wasted a pitch. I think that was a purpose pitch. Change the eye level. Have him look up. Now go back exactly where you want to go. And now two and two. Fouled off and they’ll do it again. [Music] Battling here as he fouls it away. You can see he was trying to stay back long enough to handle the off speed pitch, but just a little tardy on the fast ball. Popped up left side. Paulie has a beat on it. He’s there. He’s got it. And there’s one down. Batting the catcher number 17, Elias Diaz. Here’s Elias Diaz. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. [Applause] Swag a popup foul out of play off to the right side. That’ll find the stands. Swag and a miss. Struck him out. He’s notched four strikeouts now. The batter. Now it’s Fernando Tatis Jr. He struck out swinging at his first at bat. Miami. Bats in there. 0 and one. Swing and a miss. Ugly swing right there. Just a bit late on that 01 breaking ball. 02 hole now. He’s going to have to shorten up, tighten things up if he’s going to have a good at bat. Next pitch, a slider that misses outside. [Music] And that’s downstairs and outside. Hammers that one deep left field and forget it. He circles the bases. his 17th of the year. And they’re chipping away. It’s 3-1. That home run narrows the gap between these two. This one isn’t over yet. Well, I’m sure there’s a big grin on his face right now, Boo. He’s probably had some of those that didn’t stay fair, but off the bat, it looked like it was going to foul. was able to keep it in there. Tucked it nicely and he gets the jog around the bases. Good for him. The batting for the second time and that’s strike one. Two down, base is empty, but one run across. We’re here in the top half of inning number three. Now one and one. [Applause] the one-1 is fouled off. He’s mixing his pitches really well late on that fast ball after seeing the change up. See if he can elevate one. I think if he does, he’ll get the swing and miss. Foul ball still a one and two count. Some real good life going through the zone on that one. And a foul ball. He stays alive, two outs. This guy’s a fun guy to watch taken at bat. He just battles up there. He doesn’t take a pitch off at all. Makes it so difficult on the pitchers out there. You can tell they get frustrated with how long it takes to put him away. Next one in the dirt. Wow, this guy’s really battling up there as if his run is the game-winning run. I love his tenacity. Look out. Perfect. And it hit him. He had two strikes on him and he hit him. Here’s Manny Machado flyed to right his first time. [Applause] And that one sliced. Fouled. [Applause] swing and a miss and he chases that one in the dirt. That completes the strike out and that’ll do it. The Padres’s get one in the inning with a solo blast and this is now a 31 ball game. It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show. Back here in Lone Depot Park, ready to go for the last half of the inning. And at the plate for Miami, Jesus Sanchez, Miami. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Ball two. [Applause] Foul ball. Darvish delivers now. One fouled off. Two and two. Swing and a miss. struck him out. Make it four strikeouts for him on the bump today. I think that was the plan all the way. He set him up with a high fast ball and then bury that curve ball down low to get him swinging. Now, especially with how effective pitchers work up in the zone these days, that’s a devastating combination. Augustine Ramirez the next up for the Marlins. Struck out swinging his first time. Right through there for a strike. And that’s a strike. And that’s outside. Well, Chris, through the early stages, he hasn’t been very efficient in terms of the pitch count. He’s going to need to get some quick outs if he’s going to get deeper into this game. And he hits a ground ball right side. Jump throw across his body and he gets him. Nicely done. It is interesting though when you consider the way the game is run now. Doesn’t even matter that much if your starter doesn’t go that deep because teams are really aggressively building their bullpens. Wow, just a beautiful back door slider right there. If you’ve got any chance of hitting that pitch, you have to wait until the absolutely last millisecond. Oh, now this one’s high and deep. Way back there on its way gone. He sends it into the second deck. That’s his fifth homer in the series. and they add to the lead. It’s 4-1. [Applause] A good hitter gets pitch recognition early. He saw exactly where that was going to be. The challenge, not get over anxious and come out of your swing. He stayed on it and got all of it. [Applause] So two away with nobody on Otto Lopez the next up for the Marlins. [Applause] Swang at a highf fly ball well struck that’s back and it’s off the out of town scoreboard and that’s a two out double. Oh no waiting around right there. He was ready to swing it on the first pitch. When you connect and it jumps off your bat like that, you’re thinking double at the very least. Put a great swing on it and man, he wasn’t fooled at all. So, runner at second, two down. And up next for Miami, Liam Hicks go for one. He hit into a fieldielder’s choice his first time in the dirt but kept close. [Applause] man at second. Check swing called strike. That’s strike one. Bullpen action for the Padres’s. Yuki Matsui, the young lefty, looks to be getting himself ready. [Applause] And that’s in the dirt ball. We got two balls, one strike. [Applause] Three balls. Runner at second. Two down. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] breaking ball in there. Got him looking. Inning over and it could have been worse. One for the Marlins on the solo shot. It’s now a 4-1 ball game. And we’re back. Here comes X to the plate. The short stopander Bogarts in his 12th season, 32 years old and he was born in Aruba. Tap foul at the plate. Next offering is in for a strike. And that’s outside. Two strikes. That misses. It’s two and two. Stays alive. Check swing on the 2-2. Appeal to first and he went around. That’s ruled the swing. the center fielder stepping in for San Diego. Jackson Merrill one for one with a single so far. Oh, I think the key I mean if he can get through one more inning, anything after that, a hitter or two is bonus, but they should be lined up good enough to get to the finish line. Let’s go. That’s towards center. Ramirez under this one. Two away. Here’s the second baseman. Jose Glacius struck out looking his first time. Right through there for a strike. [Applause] [Music] swinging a ground ball up the middle and that’ll do it. Nothing across here this half. And midway in the fourth, it’s the Marlins four and the Padres’s one. And welcome back to the ballpark. John Shabi and Chris Singleton with you. And leading off the bottom of the fourth, Dane Meyers. Let’s go. Misses inside and that’s ball one. You know, these Marlins showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. pitch count is pretty high and they’ve played it four runs already. So, I think it’s safe to say their game plan is working out pretty well right now. And that one is inside. So, they forced the starter to put in a lot of work and they’ve been able to get to him for some runs and hopefully that bullpin phone is working today. That one misses. Three and one. [Applause] That one misses. So, a lead off walk. Maybe a little loss of focus on the mound right there. Pretty much gifted at first base with a quick free pass. And the Padres’s manager making his way towards the mound as he will make the move. That does it for you, Darish. And this is one he’d like to forget. Back with a new arm after this. now pitching forward. So, the Padres’s with a new arm on the mound. Yuki Matsui. Well, they didn’t get much length out of their starter in this one, so they’ve got a lot of outs to eat up in that bullpen. I think they’ll look for some length out of him right here if they can get it. So, a man aboard. And now for the Marlins, Graham Paulie 0 for one. He struck out swinging last time. Just missed. [Applause] [Music] Foul ball there. That one finds a corner and it’s one and two. Meyers on at first. Nobody out. And that one is downstairs. The countdown two and two and a ground ball to first. Sneaks through. Base hit. Throw back in quickly. First and second now with nobody out. Just one of those scene high base hits through the infield. He just kind of rolled over on it a little bit, but sometimes those can find a hole and get you a knock. First and second, no outs. And now Nick Forez, he’s 0 for one. And strike one to the catcher. [Applause] Next offering is fouled back [Music] outside low and the count one and two and that’s a strikeout looking. He’s got to be frustrated with that call. Well, definitely a borderline pitch right there. And he didn’t look too convinced as he headed back to the dugout. You know, those are tough ones to let go as a hitter, but with a human umpire calling balls and strikes, it’s always going to be on you to protect yourself with two strikes. Xavier Edwards gets a chance to hit here. There’s the strike. Oh, one’s the count. [Music] 01 now and the sweeper catches the plate. Runners at first and second with one gone. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. Foul ball still 0 and two. [Music] That’s inside. [Applause] [Music] That’s a ball. This one in the dirt. Two balls, two strikes. Really great change of speeds. He goes off the off speed to the fast ball and the hitter doesn’t know what’s coming next. Strike three and that’s two in a row. The right fielder here is Jesus Sanchez. One for two. Sanchez. That one finds the zone. That’s strike one. Two aboard, two outs. That one close. ruled a ball and the count is one and one. Top of the zone for a cold strike. Oh, this is a higher leverage spot and I love the way that he’s turned things around. He’s got two outs now ahead in this count and he can pretty much dictate what’s going to happen next in terms of the pitch sequence. right side on to first and that will end the inning. Marlins strand a pair but they lead it four to one. Back here in Miami we go to the top of the fifth and now the DH Luis Compusano. And there’s one thing on his mind this at bat. Getting that first hit at the big league level. And there’s the strike. Miami’s bullpen with some action. Calantrol getting ready to go. Number 66, the lefty warming up as well. And that drops in for a strike. [Applause] got and he’s up to seven strikeouts. Frustrating end to the at bat for the hitter and I’m sure that’s going to sit on him for a little while. You want to be ready to hit the fast ball. Sometimes you can overthink things and I think that was the case right there. Johnson swings through that one as he comes to the plate for the second time today. Late that time and it’s strike two. One and two. Not close with that one. And the count is one and two. The Marlins leading by three. And we’re in the top of the fifth. Struck him out looking. Really love the pitch sequence right there. I’m telling you what, pitcher and catcher on the same page right now. Diaz. Two outs, space is empty. Here’s the catcher, Elias Diaz. Swinging a foul out of play. lifted in the air right field. Sanchez settles under it and makes the catch. And that is that Back here in Lone Depot Park, we head to the bottom of the field. Here’s the center fielder, Augustine Ramirez. Matsui back to work and first offering is fouled off. You know, these Marlins putting together some really good at bats in this game. There’s been a lot to like with how they’re approaching their chances at the plate. It looked to me like they really wanted to get to the starter early, get him out of the game before he settles in. So, I’d say mission accomplished. Fights that one away and the count remains 0 and2. [Applause] And the pitch is outside. Ball one. Out to short and it’s through for a hit. Had a good start to the inning. Still able to come through behind in the count right there. He kind of rolled over on this pitch a little bit, but he got enough behind it to shoot it through for a knock. And he’ll take that anytime you can get him to find a hole. Next is the designated hitter, Kyle Sters. Just missed. And another ball. Nobody out. Runner at first. Runner on the go. Hard grounder into the outfield for a nine. And they’re at the corners with nobody out. Backto back base hits. Really good swing right there. He got a pitch that he knew he could handle. allowed himself to stay back just a tad bit longer and he hit the ball on the screws. So runners at the corners, nobody out. Lopez will hit next. That’s off the mark. Ball one. to short. Could be two. Off balance feed. There’s one. Safe at first. They won’t get them both. And the runner comes in from third. Well, an aggressive slide at second base, but it was legal. I like it because you’re trying to break up the double play. And it looked like the slide impacted the throw a little bit. Nice job by the base runner. And at the plate for Miami, Liam Hicks checks over to first. Back safely. [Applause] Just missed. [Applause] That’s ball. No, he’s really working him away this at bat. Sometimes take a little bit off velocity. Try to get a roll over something on the ground. Stay away from that big hole on the right side of the infield. Here’s a two. Run around the blue. Pitch in for a strike. Throw. Save. I’m sure that steal will raise a couple of eyebrows because of this big lead, but I think it’s more respect for their opponent knowing that they’ve got to continue to add on if they’re going to win this game. Don’t take it as an offense, take it as a sign of respect. And the swing miss. Going to really need to hang in there with that front side against this left-handed breaking ball. man at second. Hit on the ground to short. Gets it to first and there’s two away. Now batting the left fielder D the next up for the Marlins. He is struck out and he is walked. Swinging a foul straight back. Yeah, that’s fouled off. That just misses at the count one and two. Too close for me partner to take that O2 fast ball, but for whatever reasons he let it go by. He’s still in the at bat. I don’t think he’ll let the next one go. Fouls it off. Still one and two. flew open a little bit with that front shoulder, but was able to slow his back down just enough to make contact with that pitch. Keep the bat alive. Lopez at second with two down. Right through there. Got him. Good job at damage control right there. A run on two hits and they leave one. Five innings complete. Marlins five and the Padres’s one. Now pitching for and they make a change to start the six. The new pitcher Calantrol and he’s had a struggle so far this year. As you can see the inflated erra looking to bring that down a little bit right here. The batter will be Fernando Tatis Jr. He blasted one out earlier in the third. Just a solo home run, but an important swing of the bat in this game. We’ve already seen him do it once. Can he do it again? Swing and a highf fly ball out towards right field. Pulls it in and there’s one away. The first base number four, Luis. So digging in, Luis Az. liner base hit and they have their first hit since the third inning. A late jump and I think that was the difference on the play. It’s not always easy seeing the ball off the bat. Something to improve. And now it’s Manny Machado for two in this one. Yeah, this team is definitely looking for a big swing of the bat right here. Try to close that gap. But, you know, at the very least, if you could find a way to manufacture that run from first, it feels like it’s really important to getting back into this ball game. Delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. Good approach right there. You want to get something just a little higher that you can elevate. Stay out of that double play. Let’s go. Quadrol back to work on the ground right side. Four, six, three. It’s a double play and that’ll do it for the inning. No runs, one hit, no errors, and no one left. 891 scheduled in the bottom of the six. Marlins five and the Padres’s one. And we’re back. Bottom of the sixth inning down the third base. And immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter that just misses. One and one. Hey, that one missed. [Applause] Next pitch is downstairs. goes down swinging for the strike out. Snuck the fast ball by him. Nick Forz the next up for the Marlins. The getter Nick Forz. And that’s through there for a strike. 0 and one. Base is empty. One away here in the bottom of the six. That one ripped right center field. And that gets down into the gap. makes the turn and heads for second. And that’s a twobagger. Everything came together for him. Put a pretty good jolt into that one. Great swing, nice balance and weight transfer. And he got it to drop in out there in the deep part of the field. [Applause] Xavier Edwards now at the plate, one for three. [Applause] And first offering is fouled off. Let’s go. Right through there for a strike. That’s outside now. One and two. Forz the runner at second with one away [Music] and a ball evens a count. Keeps the bat going with a foul ball. CIA strikes him out for the second time today. Oh, nothing too fancy on the strikeout pitch right there. Just a low 90s fast ball and I’m not sure he was trying to challenge him, but that’s pretty much what happened. Very hitable location, but he found a way to just get it by him. [Music] Sanchez in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike. And now it’s even up. The 1-1 is fouled off. One and two now. Fouls that off to the left and will do it again. And that skips into cut on and miss. Curve ball struck him out. a double in the inning, but they leave him stranded. We’re through six full. Marlins five and the Padres’s one and welcome back to the ballpark. It’s Xander Bogarts now. Xander Bogar Quantrol in his sixth season, 30 years old now and he was born in Canada grounds one to short. Lopez tosses to first and they get the leadoff hitter in the seventh. Good sinker low in the zone right there and produced exactly what he was looking for. Ball on the ground. Nice ground out. And now the center fielder, Jackson Merrill. Hammer down the right side, but foul. [Music] Strike two. No balls, two strikes. And that’s downed away. One ball, two strikes. The other way. He makes the catch and there’s two down. That swing right there tells me he’s seeing the ball pretty well. I know it didn’t produce a hit, but he made solid contact and that’s all you’re looking to do anytime you’re at the plate. Two down, base is empty. Jose Glaciius digs in now. First pitch misses. And downstairs, two down, nobody on here in the top half of inning number seven. gets him to chase after that one. Two walls, one strike. Two down. Dolman on to third. Paulie sends it to first. Padres’s go down one, two, three. Nothing doing there for the Friars. They’re down here five to one. Now pitching out of the bullpen for the Padres’s, Alec. And something to be aware of, the long ball has been a little bit of a problem for him this year. 345 do for the home team. Here’s the center fielder, Augustine Ramirez. Ramirez called strike. A sinker at the bottom of the zone. 01’s in the count. Hard ground ball base knock and the leadoff man aboard. Love how he let that ball travel. Trusted his hands. Nice job of going the other way. Now, here’s the cleanup hitter for Miami, Kyle Sters. And the way he’s going in this one, we’ve been waiting for his spot to come around again. All right, listen everyone. Stop what you’re doing right now. This guy’s got two home runs already. Now he’s going for number three. first offering and it just misses. Action in the pen down there. Brian Hoing, the right-handed sinker baller. He looks to be readying himself. Fought off foul. [Music] swing and a miss as he was out front. This guy’s got such a good sinker. As a hitter, you’ve got to look up in the zone. If you look down, you’re going to be chasing stuff in the dirt. Got him swinging. The batter number six. So, up next, Otto Lopez. Lopez. And that one’s a little bit low. And that is ball one. Right back to the mound. Could be an easy two to second. Pulls him off the bag. [Music] Now batting first baseman Leah. Two on, one out. And here’s the first baseman, Liam Hicks, 0 for three with two ground outs and a strikeout. Little chopper rolls foul. That one outside and one and one. A little out front there as he swings through it. One ball. Ramirez the lead runner at second. Lopez at first. One gone. Tapped out in front of the plate and that chance handled. Fires to first in time. Now batting the left fielder Dave Meyer. Now the left fielder Dane Meyers a walk and a pair of strikeouts to the right side. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. Marlins strand a pair. They lead this one though 51. Back here in Miami for the top of the eighth. Now the DH for the Padres. Luis Compucusano. [Music] Quantrol back to work. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Quantro back to work. Off the mark there. Two and one. He gets there with the slide over to first. Nicely done for the Owl. Just so impressed with the movement on that play. footwork was excellent. The arm strength was there. And of course, the most important part was getting the out. Now it’s the switchhitting outfielder Bryce Johnson. And first offering is fouled off. [Music] in the air out towards right center. He’s got it and there’s two away. [Applause] The catcher number 17, Elias Diaz. And now it’s Elias Diaz. And that’s in for a strike. It’s 0 and one. And a strike quickly into an 02 count. Both pitches were down in the zone. I think you set your sights a little bit higher cuz you’ll have a tendency to chase if you look down in that area. That ends the frame. Padres’s go down quietly. They’re down 5-1. Back here at Lone Depot Park. Here’s the third baseman. Ram Paul. The wide to kick the pitch. Fast ball for a strike. Well, don’t expect too many more high fast balls. This is a good sinker ball pitcher and sometimes they can make mistakes trying to pitch up in the zone. Look for him to stay down around the knees to be effective. One and one. That one down the line and it goes just foul. swinging a bouncer. Tosses to first. Lead off man is out here in the eighth. Now batting catcher Nick Forz. And up next for Miami, Nick Forez. [Music] And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Swings and misses. Went with the sweeper. No balls, two strikes. [Music] Outside low. Now one and two. One ball, two strikes. The count swing and a miss. Got him to go up the ladder for the K. Thought it was a pretty good pitch. Top of the strike zone. We’re seeing more fast balls in that location. Hitters, especially with two strikes, have to be ready to pull the trigger. Edwards. Edwards at the plate with two away. Swings through that one. One’s the count. and he drops it down the third baseline. Scoops it up bare-handed. Not in time. Great effort, but it’s an infield hit. Who’s racing down the line and probably didn’t assume he was going to be safe until his foot hit the bag and looked up for the umpire. Nice bunt and great hustle to get himself a knock. [Applause] Jesus Sanchez getting ready to hit. First pitch just misses. Pickoff throw. Edwards back in on a dive. Edwards the runner at first with two gone. hit on the ground up the middle. That’s a base hit. Throw stops the lead runner at second. Two on and two out. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. Smash that one through the infield for the knock. When it’s hit that hard, it makes it very tough on the infielders to make any sort of play. Augustine Ramirez will hit next and first offering is fouled off. Two on, two outs. Let’s go Miami. And that one is inside ball one. That’s ball two. Could be some action here on this next pitch. Couple runners on. Probably a challenge pitch coming. Two on, two outs. Ball, that’s down in the dirt. That one’s in there. Three and two now. gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. First and second, two down. And they’re all loaded up. Pretty good spot on the outside, but just couldn’t quite clip the zone. That’s a stone cold take. Here comes a skipper out of the dugout and he’s ready to make the move. Alec Jacob is done and he leaves with the bases loaded. So he’ll look for some help from his teammate coming in behind him now. They hand the ball over to a new arm, Ryan. And we all know about his slider. It’s just filthy, man. And one of the better ones in the game, I’d say. Spin rate’s very high and it just breaks a ton. Here’s the cleanup hitter for Miami, Kyle Sters. All right, Miami. And that one fouled off. All loaded up here in the bottom half of the eighth inning. Swang and a miss and it’s nothing and two. [Music] This one in the air center field. Merrill under it. And that is that. And the Marlins leave all three. They’re up 5-1. Now pitching. We’re back. It’s the top of the ninth and there’s a new pitcher on the mound. Anthony Bender. Anthony. And he’s got a nice lead to work with so he should come in throwing strikes, attacking these hitters. Fernando Tatis Jr. to hit here. He’s already homered in this game. Tatis Jr. [Applause] inside corner for a strike. 0 and one. [Applause] There’s a strike. O2 count. Both pitches on the inside part of the plate. Hitter is thinking I want to get beat here. This is a good time for something off speed away. Laser could be trouble. Now he’ll turn for second and he greets the new arm from the bullpen with a double. Really nice job of two strike hitting in that at bat. Really stayed inside that baseball to send it to the opposite field with the shift on to the pole side. That’s an easy knock if you’ll take it. Runner in scoring position, no outs. Next for the Padres’s, Luis Araz. First offering misses badly for ball one. No outs. Runner on second. [Applause] Next offering is fouled back [Applause] that misses the zone and a count twoon one activity in the bullpen. Jansen Junk the hardth throwing righty is up and loos of him number 66 warming up as well. [Applause] in the air left field down the line and that’s a fair ball. Tatis comes in to score. It’s an RBI single. It’s 52. You know, I was watching his rounds during batting practice today. So impressed with his ability to let the ball travel, go back up the middle and the other way. Sometimes when you step in the box during the game, you get a little anxious and you get away from that. But so far, I’ve seen him stay consistent with his pregame preparation. Here comes Manny Machado. And that’s in for a strike. [Applause] [Applause] Ball inside. [Applause] And there’s a ball. [Applause] Next offering is downstairs. First pitch strike from the pitcher, but then no panic at all by the hitter. Very patient, showing good discipline. Now he’s in the driver’s seat with a 3-1 count downstairs. And that’s ball four. And that’ll bring the tying run to the plate. They’re not ready to go home quite yet. Here comes the skipper. And we’re going to see a pitching change in this spot. Anthony Bender won’t go any further. It’s a three-run game. and we’ll be back to tell you about the new arm in a minute. Now pitching for Ronnie Enriquez on to try and close it out. And I can’t imagine any save is an easy one. You’re holding a small lead on the scoreboard and you know those hitters are going to give you the best at bats they can. So it’s always high stress. Let’s see what he’s got here to try and close it out. And a dangerous hitter coming up to hit in Xander Bogarts. 0 for three in this one. [Applause] Swing and a miss. Strike one. [Applause] Ball one to Bogarts with the tying run at the plate. here in the top of the ninth. [Applause] Tapped at the plate, but it’s a foul ball [Applause] in the dirt. Not in time. He’s safe. And it’s second and third with nobody out. Both runners move up. Two in scoring position now. And that takes away the double play. Well, Boo, it’s already been a tough start to this inning as it is. And that wild pitch is going to make things even tougher. Two men in the scoring position now, still with nobody out. So, this really becomes a strikeout situation on the mound. The tying run at the plate. A change up missing and it’s three and two. Jackson Merrill on deck for the Padres’s. Tying run at the plate. Ball four. He walked in and that keeps things going. Good patience to take that walk and keep the line moving and it sets up a critical at bat coming up with the bases loaded here. Jackson Merrill steps to the plate in a clutch situation [Applause] and that one fouled off. They need a strike out and you need a ball perhaps on the ground for a double play or get yourself a popup something. But you got to make some pitches. But if he can battle and get through this, he can earn some points. Swings and misses. And it’s on two. I think ultimately you want to tie him up. Get the ball in on the plate so that he can’t get the barrel to it and hit it to the outfield. Strike him out looking with the off speed stuff. He’s two outs away. Jose Glacius gets a chance to hit down. [Applause] That one way outside and that’s ball one. [Applause] Swinging a foul out of play. So they’re all loaded up. [Applause] Next one off the plate inside and the count two and one [Applause] on the ground and it’s just foul. That was close. [Music] And the next pitch is way outside. [Music] And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. Pretty good pitch there to take a rip at. He wants to get his arms extended. He likes the ball away from him a little bit. Just not able to square it up. [Applause] Sim down looking. Padres with only one out remaining. Unafraid to throw it right there. That’s trusting your stuff. Just one out away from getting out of a huge jam. Luis Compucusano the next to hit. 0 for three with two strikeouts and a ground out. sends it to center and this should be it. And that’ll do it. Whether you’re a season ticket holder or you just come to a couple of games a year to see your team win at home, there’s just something special about that. Good job by this team to get it done for the hometown fans. And your final score, 52 for Chris Singleton and our entire crew. I’m John Shami saying so long. Heat. Heat.
