Astros vs. D-backs Game Highlights (7/21/25) | MLB Highlights

And Zach, when he is on the attack, he’s at his best. Is this maybe his last start at Chase Field? It’s crazy to think about it. This is the 22year-old rookie Cam Smith. 270 and seven homers. Got him to offer at the curveball. And Gallin has his first strike out. And that curveball, Bob, as we know, a feature of the Zack Allen presentation. Veteran Jose Altuve. Tuve first pitch swinging deep to left field. Guriel all the way to the wall. And Lis has got it. There’s an eight pitch out and a one pitch out right at the very top of the left center wall and Altuv gave it a ride. Tonight’s starter is going to be Colton Gordon. You can see this will be his 12th appearance, 11th start on the season. Hitters need to be ready early against Colton. Great to have Catel Marte back in the diamond back lineup in the leadoff spot as the DH. Nice welcome back for Catel who steps in to lead it all. Gets a hold of one here and drives it over the head of McCormack in center. Welcome back Catel. It’s a leadoff double 113 mph frozen rope goes for extra bases and that’s how this inning starts for Arizona. Good to see that right-handed swing coming around now. Left on left for Corbin Carroll about second. Corbin rolls it through into right field. They will wave Marte and the Diamondbacks strike first. Talk about not letting a pitcher settle in man. Two batters in, four pitches thrown. It’s one- nothing Diamondbacks. And for Carol, that’s going to be RBI number 49. This offense off to the races already. Gino 35 home runs, third highest total in the majors and the most in the National League. He leads all of baseball with those 85 runs batted in. Here’s another fly ball to left. Trel’s at the wall and he’s got just enough room. You had to be thinking he just did it again. Almost every time he swings if he puts the ball in the air, unless it’s a straight popup, you’re wondering. former Diamondback set to lead off the top of the second now with the Houston Astros. Number eight, Christian Walker. You know that there’s got to be a little extra nerve and adrenaline right now for CW. Swinging a ground ball to short. Cernomo has it cleanly and throws to first in time. Walker the first out of the second. And the Astros will have runners on first and second with one out. Bond drawing his 13th walk of the season. Walks have been one of the issues for Gallon this year. Big reason why he hasn’t pitched up to his usual standards. McCormack just came back from the injured list on Friday as the one two. There’s the swing and miss and McCormack chases the breaking ball in the dirt and for Gallon they get strikeout number two. Now Bryce Matthews will get a start tonight and bat here with two runners on. It’s game number five in his big league career. Starting to have better at bats in that Seattle series. Highf fly ball got him to deep left field. Guriel Jr. back near the wall. This is gone. First career home run for Bryce Matthews. And the Astros out in front. Three to one on the board in this road trip with his first big league hit. And here it is. His first big league home run is a huge three-run jack. A lot of Astros fans here at Chase Field getting to see a big moment for Bryce Matthews and his family off of Zack Gallon. A three-run homer skyhigh to left field over the 374 sign. So now Victor Keratini bats with two outs and nobody on. He’s got a careerhigh nineame hitting streak starting tonight and make it 10 just pass the dive of Bla1 Alexander. Victor Keratini a 10 gamer two out base runner for the Astros. Now here’s Christian Walker. Walker had a video tribute played while he was at first base last half inning. That ball hammered to center field. Back goes Corbin Carroll all the way to the wall. He’ll jump. It’s off the top of the wall. Carini is going to score. Christian Walker and his return to Chase Field. An RBI double off the top of the center field wall. This is a ballpark he is very comfortable in and Zack Callen accommodated by giving a fast ball up out over the plate for him to be able to drive. So a 4-1 Astros lead. Christian Walker with his 14th RBI in the month of July. And just like that with two outs and nobody on, it brings up Gino Suarez. Guys has been tearing the cover off the baseball here in recent days. Suarez to left. Treel at the wall and it’s gone. He had another one. That’s 36. Another day. It’s another dinger for Gino Suarez. I mean, this guy’s unbelievable. Wow. Just Wow. Yeah, really. I mean, Gracie said it before, you run out of superlatives. This guy has just been on fire. He has 10 home runs in his last 15 games. Goodness. A troubling trend early in this ball game for Zack Allen. He’s given up a lot of hard hit. Five balls with exit velocity over 106. Gets Duvon to chase a fast ball way up there. That’s strike out number four for Zack. gets DuPont to chase a high fast ball this time. Now he is sitting on 999 career strikeouts. He is one shy of a thousand for his career. Wanging a miss. That’s 1,000 career strikeouts for Zack Gallon. What a career in a Diamondback uniform. A thousand strikeouts for the milkman. He’s off the plate outside. He tried the fast ball but missed. And that’s going to be a lead off ball. And that’s how it starts for the Dbacks so often. Here is Corbin Carroll. One on and nobody else. It’s rolled over to Walker. He gloves, calmly, throws to second. There’s one. The return throw to first. It’s thrown away and it hits Carol in the heel. He now picks up the ball and sprints towards second and slides in there safely. And that is going to be a fieldielder’s choice and I believe an E6 on Zack Short. So, the Dbacks have a runner in scoring position with one out. All things considered, you’d take that given the result off the bat. Corbin takes off for third. Carini, the throw is high and Corbin’s in there. And that’s the 13th stolen base for Carol and a win-win for the Diamondbacks. The pitch missed off the plate and a chance to get a run here with only one down in the bottom of the fifth inning. Reached for that is poked into shallow center and making a head first dive is Chaz McCormack. He makes the catch. However, tagging from third and scoring is Carol. And that is going to be a sackfly RBI for Guriel. And it’s now a one-run ball game. McCormack thought he had the third out right there. He just preserved an out. He came up jogging towards the dugout. They had to tell him, “No, that’s just the second one.” So, Alexander draws the walk. The second allowed by Gordon. A single and a walk with two outs and a chance for Pomo in the nine spot tonight. Just the second walk issued by Gordon. Joe Spado is going to go out and make the move and he will go to Bennett Soua in the bullpen. Takes on three and 0 and they’re loaded for Catel. And what a return for Marte this would be. Three straight have reached with two outs. Catel has doubled, struck out and one. Less than ideal, but Ben Soua is going to have to compete. Popped them up. High pop up. Zack Short making the call. Taylor Tra calls him off and puts it away as Benusa strands three. Two of them Colton Gordon’s responsibility. And we head to the seventh in a 4-3 Astros lead. Gallon at 85 pitches, 58 strikes through six. He has set down 10 of the last 11 he’s faced. Chaz showing butt. Gets it down. Suarez will try to bareand. makes the throw, but it’s not in time. Chaz with a lead off hit against Gallon here in the seventh. Just surprising everybody with that one. Bryce Matthews, who has the biggest swing of the night for the Astros, a three-run home run in the second inning. That ball hit high in the air deep to left field. Forget about it. Bryce Matthews putting on a show in the desert. Two home runs, five runs driven in. Well, the first chapter in Bryce’s book has got Zack Gallon in it a couple of times. Bryce is right, DK. A two-run homer by Matthews and it’s six to three. That was deep. That will be the last batter for Zack Allen on this Monday night. Five of the six runs driven in by the rookie Bryce Matthews in his fifth major league game. It’s the bottom of the ninth. The Astros have a three-run lead, six-3 over the Diamondbacks. That means closer Josh her is coming in for your Astros. There you go. Gino’s going to get another crack at this thing. Terrific at bat by Gore. And here comes Suarez looking for what would be his third consecutive multih homer game. Only four players in baseball history have ever done that. No matter how good Suarez is, you do not want to bring the tying run to the plate if you can help him. And the tying run comes to the plate. Backto back two out walks by haters. Josh Naylor at the plate is a tying run. He skies one way up in the air. Cam Smith camps under it and that’s the ball game. The Astros hold on to win six-3.

  1. This game was another great representation of the Astros whole season. We're more than just one player. One goes down (Parades), another steps right up (Matthews). Great game! Suarez is a beast.

  2. Peña, paredes, Altuve, Alvarez, Walker, Diaz, Meyers smith and Mathew’s will be a great lineup hopefully they can all come back at the same time this season.

  3. The Dbacks need more solid arms. If nothing else changes, at least fix the pen. But hey, first game in the series so I'm not that upset.
