I got angry at the title until I read the article lol. Dude works an at bat like a pro.
This is spot on in what I’ve been thinking about Torres this year; something that boils down to being a good pro vs maybe just having insane natural talent. How many times does he go up and swing at the first pitch after the guy before him walks? How many times does he chase a breaking ball way outside on 0-2? Etc etc. He consistently makes good decisions before the pitch is even thrown I feel like. And a highly underrated attribute is consistently seeing a lot of pitches to speed pitchers along their pitch count. According to MLB.com he’s 7th in the league in pitches per plate appearance
I loved gleyber as a Yankee I’m happy he he’s doing well as a Tiger
This is a great article and really illustrates how hard Gleyber’s worked to become such a pitch-eating machine.
Someone’s going to pay him big money this off season and he’s definitely earned it. I think we all assume it won’t be us given the prospects we have and the current situation in the infield with Keith.
> It ought to be no surprise, then, that the more sophisticated swing decision metrics perceive Torres as among the very best in the sport. In 2023, Robert Orrof Baseball Prospectus created a metric called SEAGER, which grades the value of each swing decision. Torres currently sits in the 99th percentile of SEAGER, accompanied by a select few hitters, including Corey Seager himself.
He’s definitely what I consider a pest. If a pitcher can get him on a swinging third strike, kudos to them because they earned it.
This is why I really hope Malloy can come back to the team and hopefully have success. We really need another “pain in the ass” type hitter that can extend at-bats and Malloy seems to have that patience and good eye. Absolutely rakes at AAA, just needs a few breaks in the big leagues
They really ought to play “walk it out” at the park whenever he walks so he can pull a savanna bananas towards 1st base
One of my absolutely favorite players to watch hit. Realistically I know he’s playing too well and we have too many infielders to think we’re going to re-sign him but man I’m going to be sad when he goes somewhere else.
