Francisco Alvarez’s game-tying home run at Citi Field was CINEMATIC! 🍎

I mean, it starts outside and kind of I got to think takes a right turn. Got to think his motion is deceptive. You know, he’s got that I said it was deliberate, but it also is a little bit of it’s unorthodox and a little herky jerkiness to it. Honed his skills at Red Wall Field in Hanover, New Hampshire, home of the Dartmouth Big Green. Brent Batty had a broken bat liner to second his first time up. Anders making his 19th start this year at age 35. His first year with anybody except the Cubs. He was originally drafted by the Texas Rangers, but never pitched in the big leagues for them. See that stat for five seasons of 30 or more starts. Only a handful of guys in the game now could put that up. Get toward the gap in right center field by Batty. That’s down for an extra base hit. It goes to the wall and Batty’s hot month continues. A two out double now. 6 for13 on this home stand. Two and0 count. And Hendrick went after him. Boy, Soler, he didn’t even move for that ball. It’s like you got Adele. You got it. You know, it was interesting. Carlos Mendoza was talking about threat batting and he said the one thing he’s handling better is the mental part of the game when he does have a an 0 for four. It doesn’t affect his process and what he’s going to do the next game. Now Alvarez swinging out of his socks on that change up. That’s the first overaggressive swing we’ve seen from Francisco. Looking to tie the game with one big swing. He can also tie the game with one little compact swing to the opposite gap. We almost saw it last night. I mean, watching some of his home runs when he was down at Syracuse, a lot of them to center and right center. That one’s on the corner of fast ball and it’s 0 and2. Yeah, that’s that that’s called uh getting out in front. Good balance, but a big overswing there and didn’t keep his eye on the ball. You might see one more fast ball up and in before he throws the change up down and away. Let’s see. There’s the uppend fast ball. Would you pinch it one time? Hrix reminds me of how I threw in the last couple of seasons. He has a definitely that lag, that delay you’re talking about, Keith. Check swing foul on a fast ball running in the fans won’t remember this pitcher, but there was a guy on Sai Young in 83, John Denny, who had a real delay and lag before. John Denny before he would deliver the ball to the plate had a rest and then delivered. And the guys timing all messed up. John threw a palm ball, had a big curve and a sinker. I played minor league ball when we came up in the Cardinal chain together. Yep. Came up with the Cardinals, but he won the S with the Phillies. Yes, he did. And the ERA title with the Cardinals, I believe. One and two to Alvarez. Tying run at the plate in a two nothing game. Takes that sinker inside. There’s Big John. Our guys, they’re ready for anything in that truck, aren’t they? A 36 starts, only 242 in two/3 innings. Went to the World Series that year. It’s the Geyser World Series and Alvarez blocks one deep left field goes back at the wall. It’s out of here. Francisco Alvarez ties the game with a tworun homer. His first City Field home run of the season. A two-run shot. His second game back from the Miners. And Al is back with a bang. Fourth home run of the season for Francisco. His first three came on the road. Batty and Alvarez, the best of friends, teaming up. And now Mauricio hits one up the middle for a third straight two out hit. So the seven of nine hitters for the Mets coming through wanted to come back inside Rise and he didn’t get it in enough and he didn’t get it up and boy would this be a big lift for the Metros. Keith, what did you talk about in the open? Look at the grip there. It looked like he might have been trying to cut that ball inside. Started at Alvarez and bended on the inside corner. Just ended up in the happy zone. David Stern said last night before the game that he’s very happy with what he’s seen from the bottom part of the order, especially the younger guys. Batty’s gotten hot. Alvarez returning. And all of a sudden, the Mets getting some production from that bottom of the batting order. They’ve gotten even at this game.

The New York Mets tie the game vs. the Los Angeles Angels after Francisco Alvarez’s home run on July 22, 2025.
