Royals vs. Cubs Game Highlights (7/22/25) | MLB Highlights

45 year old Rich Hill who the Royals had in AAA and they’ve got the open spot with Michael Lorenzen on the injured list. So they select his contract today and we’re gonna get to see history Monty the 21st major league season for Rich Hill, 38th pitcher since 1920 to pitch in his 21st season. The last to do it was Bartolo Kolo. Well, he’s gonna tie Edwin Jackson. So now when everybody says who has played for the most teams in baseball, you can say Edwin Jackson or the left hander, Rich Hill, the guy to do that is Matthew boy, 34 years old from Samish Washington and he goes 632, 23 and he’s in the majors in, er, a what? A signing by Jed Hoyer. And here we go with jonathan India. The leadoff. That one lifted out to center and that’s out. Number one. Nice to see Pete back in the lineup. He missed only one game with that sore knee that brings up Garcia hitting in the three spot tonight to third shaw, 123. The Royals there is 45 year old Rich Hill he makes history tonight. He is officially the oldest player in Royals franchise history. He is also now pitching for his 14th different team that ties Edwin Jackson’s major league record leadoff man is Niko Horner facing Rich Hill, the former left field, a base hit for Horner’s return to the big league. Certainly a good story for the Cubs are trying to write their own story. So they’re going to look to inflict the damage on the veteran left hander here. And the batter is kyle Tucker Tucker fouled that off his foot and you could hear him yelling, he could get it just the top of the knee. The count is one ball and two strikes and he kind of walks away from council and Fran as if to say, ok, guys, let’s, let’s continue with the festivities here and that is called strike three. Tucker is down looking first royal strikeout for Rich Hill and strikeout 1429 in his big league career. Four seamer. Apparently it just missed outside and the Cubs have two men on one away, no score bottom of the first. And the batter parson Kelly, there’s a grounder. Lofton makes the short hop, his only plays to first and he makes it didn’t get a two or three hopper there, but they’ll take the heat Crow Armstrong with a chance to drive in the first run or two in the air to deep center field, but is Bell’s got room standing in the sunshine. He makes the catch inning over Rich Hill strands a pair in scoring position and it’s a scoreless inning. Dansby Swanson spanking, a sharp one hop line drive between third and short and it’s a leadoff single here in the second inning. Nothing, nothing game. And the batter is, he hit hard to third and it squirts off the glove of Lofton. Everybody’s safe. And I mean, that was a bullet and now a battle of 40 plus year olds, 45 year old Rich Hill to 40 year old Justin Turner the other way and Salvador Perez flags it down to second for one save at first. He dropped the throw another ball really well struck. Not sure what to do with that ultimately makes the throw to second base and Then they’ve got Turner if he hangs on here and he just planks it. Now, Matt Shaw, the Cubs almost in the dugout field. We have to take advantage of this, capped off the plate softly hit at first run scores and the Cubs are on the board didn’t hit it hard but Shaw runs well, it will be an RB I infield single 1 to 0, double steal on a slow curve. Justin Turner his second for Shaw his 13th two in scoring position. This is a very big at bat in this game to short Garcia goes to third and they tag out the runner and a run comes in to score. So is tagged out as Turner comes in. It is Tuesday long inning continues for Rich Hill and say Suzuki will come up to him pop up on the infield Salvi under the ball and makes the catch just on the edge of the outfield grass. So a big pitch right there, the Strand two more. If they get a pair, it’s out. Number 1, 10 straight batters retired by Boyd as he’s off to another great start run changeup , struck him out and wit is gone. Boyd wins the battle and it’s 11 in a row set down to begin. Fastball is outside for a walk and the Royals get their first baserunner and here’s Salvador Perez on the ground, Swanson back, they force out Garcia and so to the fifth, we go and leading off for the Royals is Nick Loughman breaking ball is lined into right field that’s gonna go for a hit and Lofton has a leadoff single. So Lofton with the first hit of the game for Kansas City and that will bring up Jack tag Leone, the right fielder who struck out swinging in his first at bat hits it off the plate, chopping it picks it up, throws to first play. Lofton to second one out one down runner in scoring position for Fermin and John Rave that slice to right and drops in front of Tucker. Lofton had to wait to see if Tucker could get there. That’s two hits similar styles to hud runners on the corners for john Rave. Rave squares. There’s the bunt right back to Boyd Lofton has to stay put, but Raves safe. So that’s a great idea. Just because he didn’t get the bunt where he wanted, he’ll take the knock, it loads him up. So just one away here in the top of the fifth, that Cubs with a 20 lead, but the Royals have the bases loaded. Kyle Isbell will hit that one line and see Dan Swanson saying , please look, I want to play by Swanson. They’re going to take a look and I got a feeling this is going to be inning over. He was sprinting to second base as he was reaching to catch that ball and he’s out gold glover doing gold glove things able to make the catch on the line drive and Then had the presence to dive second base to get the double play after the call overturned. The runner is out. So two down cubs up 2 to 0 over the Royals. Kelly at first and the batter beat Armstrong that’s drilled right field. Kelly out his horse racing for third P. Barry’s gonna send him. He is the is out the run scores and it is three nothing. It is a two ounce single and the batter now is freddie Fermin. Now, if he gets for being here, I would anticipate probably being his last inning and I think the cub fans are feeling it too as they’re trying to help him get through this inning and possibly get a punch out to end it 32 swing and a miss, he struck him out seven shutout innings for Matthew. The lefty has been sensational this year and bags are loaded cubs with a chance to break this baby wide open right now. Say Suzuki, the league’s leading RB I man with 80 would love to add to that RB I total right. This moment fly ball softly hit , fall in calls for a hit in to score. His Shaw Horner will move up and the Cubs add on it’s four to jonathan. And what did you do to deserve this young man, Karma is getting him tonight. The Cubs putting an inning together with the but he got a little flip and now this pop up from uh sea insurance run here is Carson Kelly high fly ball left center field that one to the wall and it’s hauled in by Isbell tagging from third is Niko Horder. It’s a sack fly and it’s five to left hander. Sam Long is the new pitcher takes off. Suzuki gets hung up the play and Tucker is in and they steal a run. The Cubs pull this off a couple of times. Vermin’s got to be getting frustrated with his bases. He’s allowed here tonight. Ninth inning Daniel Palencia in a non save situation, but sometimes you got to keep him sharp run just to give him a little work. And so now it often Nick with the Shub fans standing waiting for their songs with the slider and Palencia closes it out. Hey, it’s time to sing the song.

  1. I don't think the Cubs had a single hard hit ball all night. Errors killed the Royals tonight. Dunno why Loftin was playing 3rd

  2. Those Cubs definetly have an elite roster. They have proven themselves since the Astros traded Tucker. Hope they win it all this year!

  3. Hey, guys. On vacation from Texas. So glad I was able to be there at Wrigley today. Lifelong Cubs fan. Only my 3rd Cubs game ever, the 2nd one being yesterday.
If you were there around the 2nd deck near home plate, and you heard a guy doing an annoyingly perfect Boog impression… sorry… that was me.

  4. Every single MLB game is controlled by betting conglomerates. It is obvious if you just take the time to watch. Learn mathematics and probabilities, and you will understand. Wake up and change the world. Stop supporting sports.

  5. Saw the Breaking News this week, Senior Citizen pitcher signs on for 14th team. Wondered could be so awfully desperate, almost pathetic really, and of course it's KC. Shouldn't be surprised, seem to love AAA talent coaching and on the field
