  1. Good morning to everyone except Eric Fedde, Miles Mikolas, and John Mozeliak.

  2. In Andre we trust, I guess.

Sell or no, whatever pride this team has left is on the line as we attempt to avoid a series loss to the ROCKIES.

  3. Even bad teams wouldn’t let Fedde start anymore

And we’re not a bad team, we’re just hopelessly mediocre

  4. Record in June 14-14 and July 5-10, 19-24 in last 43 games. It is not so much that they are 52-50 and 3.5 games out of last WC spot, it is this is at best a .500 team trending down which won’t make the playoffs no matter what they do, even if they add a few pieces and Mo has to know that.

I believe the last 2 starts were only a Mo prayer that Fedde would turn it around, he did have a 3.54 ERA on June 19, and keep him in the rotation or get trade value. The last 5 games he has only gotten progressively worse, 14.2 innings, not even 3 innings a start, 15.75 ERA.

McGreevey seems up to stay, they didn’t send him back after a spot start like every other time. The Fedde last 2 starts leash for improvement is over and they now know he has zero trade value so no sense waiting for the trade deadline in a week and they just can’t put him out there anymore. From a business perspective, this has an extended impact on their customers that they need to go to games and renew season tickets for next year, this is a tipping point to show they give a shit about them and show up for games this and next year. Even Mo has to see this and in his role he has a fiduciary responsibility to the Cardinals and if he cares at all about his legacy, this Fedde debacle will be what most people remember about him.

McGreevey will replace Fedde for his next start and Fedde will be DFA’d, they will eat Fedde’s remaining $3 M salary that is guaranteed no matter what, but McGreevey is only $800k a year when he is on the 26 man roster prorated to about $300 K for the rest of the year, so that is the only incremental cost after the Fedde sunk cost with him not pitching. This really has nothing to do with the Cardinals being cheap and pitching Fedde because they are paying him, $300k out of their 2024 reported revenue of $377 M in lost in the rounding.

I know we all not only agree Fedde has to go now, but we also find it incomprehensible that he is not. Oli also feels the same, I’ll guarantee the players feel the same (Contreras publicly said it) and it’s a middle finger to everyone to not care enough about everyone involved to not make the only logical move.

Fedde is gone before his next start and the trading deadline replaced by McGreevey in the rotation.

  5. It’s late July, and we don’t have a single starting pitcher with an ERA under 4 or a WHIP lower than 1.15 outside of McGreevy, who’s pitched
fewer than 30 innings. Is that bad?
