QB Tua Tagovailoa meets with the media | Miami Dolphins

Good. See a lot of heads going, “Yep.” But no. What’s the feeling? Uh what’s what’s the attitude? Is it different from other years? Well, I think every every year you want to you want to think it feels different. You want to say it feels different. Uh but you know, I mean, it it’s like any other year. you you get your time off, then as you’re kind of slowing slowing down that time of of being off, you sort of miss the guys, you miss the camaraderie, you miss the locker room talks, you know, you miss uh you just miss that community in a way, you know, it’s it’s always good to have your family around. Uh but I know it’s it’s a little different. It it really is a different world when you step into the locker room. Uh, I think a lot of the things that are said in the locker room, too, and you can’t really say it out in public as well. So, I think that’s what makes makes uh makes it great and wanting to come back, wanting to get to work with the guys and and things of that nature. mentality, more I think I think the there’s a lot of guys that are taking on more of a leadership role and uh coming out to be more vocal, you know, in front of the guys, in front of the team, but not just saying things, allowing their actions to to, you know, kind of back up what they’re what they’re saying as So, uh, I wouldn’t necessarily say that it’s a bunker mindset or a bunker mentality where we’re all kind of hunched up and, you know, it’s us against the world. Um, you know, really it’s it’s us against ourselves is kind of how we look at it. And what are we doing every single day to get each other better, but then what are we doing to get ourselves better to get that that guy on the other side of the ball or the guy next to me better? So, that’s what it is. So, what does make a Fitzpatrick Uh, he brings another Alabama player. Uh, I mean, I I don’t know that I I have so many good things to say about Minka because when I when I was there my freshman year, that was his last year uh, you know, before we ended up uh, parting ways when he entered the draft. Uh, but I have a lot of good things to say about him. um the mentor in a way that he he was for that locker room back in uh 17 that 17 year and 18 um I mean the leadership that that he gives off sort of the standard like I was talking to Mike about it too uh with Mink you know there there’s the standard and then there’s like someone that you can look at and you can say that’s a standard and like I don’t I can’t put words to what that standard is but I kind of want to gravitate towards that person and I think that’s That’s what gives off. I think there’s a lot more vulnerability with with Tyreek. Um, you know, he’s he’s conversating a lot more with the guys, not just about football, but about uh things off the field. being vulnerable with some of the things that, you know, people know about his personal life and things of that nature. Um, and I think that’s the first step to him building true relationships and and a real connection with a lot of the guys in there. Um, everyone knows what he can do on the field. Everyone respects what he can do on the field. Uh, but I think, you know, he’s he’s still trying to figure things out for himself as well. Uh, kind of the man he wants to be. Um, and you know, he’s not too young. like everybody makes mistakes. Um it’s just some people, you know, they they’re in the spotlight, you know, and and they’re their deals get uh get pushed out more than than some others. So, you know, just got to cut him some grace. I mean, that’s our teammate. You know, we love him, but as a person, if you get to know him, I think you’d love him, too. You talked about relationship last year. You guys have to rebuild your relationship together. Sure. I I I would say we’re still continuing to do that. But it’s not just with me. It’s it’s with a lot of the guys. I’m not the only one that heard that. You guys aren’t the only people that heard that. You know, a lot of people that follow football, that follow the Miami Dolphins, uh that follow Tyreek, that are fans of his, everyone has seen that. So, um, when you say something like that, it’s you don’t just come back from that with, uh, hey, my bad. You know, you got you got to work that that relationship up. You got to build everything up, um, again. And yeah, that it it’s still a work in progress, not just for me, but for everybody. But, um, like I said, he’s he’s working on himself. He’s working on the things that he say, you know, he says he wants to get better with with uh, and do better on. So, uh, that’s the first step to me and so I commend him, uh, for doing that. I would say the first thing is it’s it’s a mindset thing for for me. Um like I’ve said in previous interviews, you know, is this the right thing to do in the heat of the moment where I got to make a split decision on should I go for the first down, should I not, should I, you know, do this on fourth down, should I not? Um, and then given given the circumstances, right? Is it to go to the playoffs? Is it to win a must-win game? You know, you got to throw all of those in there. But I think the the most important thing is uh, you know, I I I got to I got to be more selfless and instead of being selfish and, you know, I’m thinking this is what the guys want from me. Well, I don’t know that because I haven’t talked to them about what do you expect for me to do in that situation. So, uh to cut everything out, you know, it’s slide just just get off the field, give yourself another opportunity, and if that opportunity doesn’t avail, you got the next week to to go out there and prove yourself or prove to to your team that that wasn’t what it was. So, yeah, I would say it’s a mindset thing for for this offseason. somethingotivation. Yes, I I I watch a good amount of podcasts, listen to like a good amount of audio books as well. Um I’m I’m reading a book right now, so that’s kind of like my process with uh like before I go to bed. Kind of helps like with the dreaming aspect of it, you know? you kind of go to bed, you kind of think about it, think a little more about it. Sometimes you get aha moments, you know, as as you’re sleeping, you wake up and something hits you in that sense. Um, but I would say that’s that’s what I do in terms of motivation. And then, you know, you can take little snippets of what certain people say or little quotes in in the book, you know, copy paste it, print it, put it on your locker, things of that nature to always remind you and get you back in the right uh frame of mind. Do you know what you’re reading? I don’t know what I’m reading. Funny. I don’t know what I’m reading uh right now, but uh yeah, ask you about what was your when did you know about the trade and what was your initial reaction to it? I didn’t know too much about the M uh about the MA trade. Uh try to stay, you know, away from from what they got going on upstairs with the talks uh with other teams. But when we ended up getting Minka, I I thought that was unique. Um because Minka started out here and then going there and then coming back, I just wasn’t sure how Minka was going to feel about that, you know, given uh the prior uh scars that he had with what the media portrayed was happening behind the scenes. And then, you know, there’s just things that, you know, I I didn’t know where his headspace was. Had lunch with him on Sunday. got to talk to him about a good amount of things. Um, and it it’s not like catching up uh like with me and JDub, you know, because I’m on the opposite side of the ball. I only had him for one year and I don’t know, it’s probably six, seven years that I’ve I’ve seen him since. You know, I’m a different person than I was in Alabama. He’s a different person than he was at Alabama. So, just kind of getting to rekindle that fire of a relationship with him. But I’m excited. I’m excited to have him. Um, and we’re we’re gonna see. I mean, we’re competing right now, so it’s good fun. Was somebody that you were pretty John was someone you were pretty close with off the field. What was your reaction to? Well, throughout that entire process, I was talking to Janu um was trying to figure things out the same way he was trying to figure out uh things through his agent. And then I would also be talking to Chris and whatnot. I mean, at the end of the day, uh, you know, I can’t do anything about it. He did, you know, he did all he could to put himself into the position to go up to the team, negotiate, make all the money he needs to make, uh, you know, to help set up his family. And, uh, you know, we talked about it and when he got traded, you know, I messaged him. I mean, we talked for a little bit. And I mean, that’s that’s my boy. Like I I love Johnny, but uh that’s you know that’s that’s how the league works and uh that that won’t change the relationship I have with him. Say what do you think? I think you continue to work work with those guys, right? Tyreek wasn’t here as much uh practicing during OTAAS because he had his surgery. he had to, you know, do things to make sure that he was ready for training camp. Um, and with JDub, we we had those reps in OTAAS. We had some reps during the offseason when we were gone. Um, so that that to me, that’s that’s that’s all it takes. It’s continued reps, continuing to communicate through what you see, what I see, and then we kind of maneuver it through there, and we adjust. Thanks, guys. We got Austin Jackson here for y’all. Thank you for doing that. I got to do that. This is our agent.

  1. Good luck and great health to you this year Tua πŸ˜‡ Like your grandfather told you long ago, just "Be the lion" and we'll have an excellent season! PHINS UP!

  2. 1. Give the reporters Microphones!! 2. Ask Tua, "Knowing you have the worst secondary in NFL history, how many points will the offense need to score per game to be competitive?"

  3. Anytime you're a leader of a men there's nothing better than spending time with those guys joking around or just working hard everybody moving to the same goal come on man we know you can do it
    Tua for MVP

  4. Tua I believe in you man! Prove the haters wrong! I know you’re a good QB, and you have a good amount of weapons, so remember to take advantage of that! Let’s make the playoffs again and hopefully win in the wildcard!

  5. Tua can lead this team to a championship level. They can’t seem to build an offensive line to protect him and run the ball. McDaniel thinks he can trick is way into a championship level team, without building the trenches and a running game

  6. Could have a monster year ❀ 🐬 πŸ€ ☘ πŸ€ ☘ πŸ€ ☘ πŸ€ ☘ πŸ€ ☘ πŸ€ ☘ πŸ€ ☘ πŸ€ ☘ πŸ€ ☘ πŸ€ ☘ πŸ€ ☘ πŸ€ ☘ πŸ€ ☘ πŸ€ ☘
