Miami Dolphins 2025 Training Camp Day 1: We’re Back!!

Day one of training camp in the books. Feels good to say that again and get on a roll. Got some things to talk about. Some good and unfortunately some bad. [Music] What is up Finn fans? To all the new subscribers. Welcome. If you haven’t been with me during training camp, let me give you a quick little rundown of how this is going to work. We go over Mike McDaniel’s presser on the field stuff and then player pressers after. And then if I have any footage to show you, which again it was closed to the public, but Miami put out some things here and there, I show it. Unfortunately, today I’m going to jump into things a little different because two things happened today that we do have to talk about. First, Brian Mattos uh or Byron Mattos, sorry, butchered the name, was injured at the end of camp and was uh evacuated. Uh he was airlifted out to a local medical center. I don’t know much about the injury or how he’s doing. Uh obviously he’s in stable condition. Uh but just horrible news, especially to hear that he got airlifted. Um hopefully it’s nothing too serious. I don’t know what it is, if it’s a head injury, a neck injury, or whatever. He is an offensive lineman. Uh but our prayers go out to him. Hopefully he is okay. Um and everything goes smoothly with him. And then unfortunately other news from the Miami Dolphins is that quarterback Arty Burns um hurt his knee at practice today and the fear is that he tore his ACL. Now Arty Burns was a guy we brought in a very cheap uh contract obviously to help in the quarterback room. Uh Arty Burns has a horrible horrible history of injuries. If you look at like the past four or five years, he’s been injured every single season. Um, but it just really sucks that at day one of training camp, he potentially tears his ACL. Um, so hopefully this puts a little bit more of uh like a push or an emphasis for the Miami Dolphins to go out and get potentially two corners. Now, there’s a lot of good ones out there in Stefan Gilmore, Mike Hilton, Santi Samuel Jr., Rul Douglas. I think at this point, figure out your cap situation and go out there and grab yourself two of them, especially because you just lost one in Arty Burns. So, that’s the two unfortunate newses newses English uh for today. Let’s jump into Mike McDaniel’s presser. Uh he says Liam Iikenberg will be out for a few weeks. He’s not putting any timeline on it as far as guessing if he’ll be ready for the regular season. Uh, I will say this, I am critical of Liamberg. Uh, for the past two years, I’ve been very critical of uh, Liamenberg. I like the way he played center. I think not last preseason, but the preseason before that. Last year, I was extremely critical of him. I’ve been trying to dial it back, give him at least a chance. Uh, but there are people unfortunately on Twitter that were not celebrating but kind of like happy that he got injured is going to be out and thinking like they’re going to replace him regardless. It’s just not a good look. Um, you like I said, I’m very critical of him. Uh, but I would never. That’s just that sucks. And it sucks that he’s going to be out for a few weeks. And I obviously that’s where the Brunskill uh um the Daniel Brun I don’t know what’s wrong with my brain signing comes in because they need someone to come in and play Liam Mikeberg’s position and he can. Uh Dolphin coach Mike McDaniel said Fatu Melofanu injury is nothing that I’m worried about and it’s uh it’s rooted in preventive nature. So again, he’s just being on the cautious side on Sealer. McDaniel said he’s not going to get into business football. Uh it takes my focus away from football and that will be bad leadership. Obviously, he also doesn’t have much control of that, but Seer was out there and he was practicing. Um so there is that. Mika Fitzpatrick says, “Anytime you can make a trade, you make sure the player wants to play football for you.” Ma did not meet with the media today and again little suspicious uh but he was there. He was on the practice field. I got footage of that. He also was uh working with the corners. He was breaking huddles with them and he was being a very good leader. So, it has nothing to do with him not wanting to be here. Uh why he’s not meeting with the media. I think it has a lot to do with probably a contract situation, but we’ll see. McDaniel also said, “I’m elated to add Ma uh add to add Mika Fitzpatrick to the team. It’s a really good fit based on his skill set.” McDaniel implies Mika Fitzpatrick the player was consulted before the trade that would have required Steelers permission of course. So they obviously talked to him said hey we would love to have you. So again it’s a lot of reiterating from Mike McDaniel that he wants to be here. There’s just something else going on again probably contract why he hasn’t met with the media. Uh you’re driven to win and write your own story. He knows a lot of Alabama guys. He was the he’s he he and has the foresight that he’s uh what he’s getting into talking about Mika. Obviously you have Jaylen Wahar and Tuong Valoa. We will listen to not listen but we will I’ll read you to his presser. He had lunch with Mika before the uh start of training camp. Improvement, development, and growth. Those are McDaniel’s four fundamental approaches for himself and his team. today. All he’s shown me is rel relentless conviction to dictate the conversation about who he wants to be as a teammate and a father. Talking about Tyreek Hill, uh Tyreek Hill said yesterday that both him and McDaniel have matured. McDaniel said uh that inherent to my life is improvement, development, and growth. Uh McDaniel on swapping Jaylen Ramsey and Ma. He says Ramsayy’s a Steeler. I talk about Dolphins. Ma is a dolphin. Uh he He also says, “Are we are we resisting getting better?” We are not resisting getting better. I understand completely. There’s a lot of tweets, words, articles from people that care about the Dolphins. Uh we are going to have uh confidence in it before the people who haven’t seen it do it. McDaniel’s on if the Dolphins will add a veteran. They have a lot to prove and are excited to get the opportunity. Well, kind of got your hand forced today. Okay. McDaniel has uh moved training camp practices to earlier mornings. Normally starts at 10:00. Now it starts at 9:00. A lot of very specific reasons. McDaniel says minimizing soft tissues issue is injury, weather, etc. They may adjust time later in the summer. He’s happy that Chris Perkins feels good about beating Miami traffic. Also, they put big fans, like huge fans in the bleachers, uh where I will sit. So, I’m very happy about that. Ask McDaniel. I already answered that. Uh, find guys who prioritize being a winning football team and put that over anything else. Uh, when he talks about his approach to everything, people’s habits affect other people. He said, “Humble, accountable, deliberate attention and uh, daily focus. That’s what we’re looking for.” McDaniel said what he’s looking for daily. uh on Darren Waller he said the opportunity to have a player that is hungry that is healthy in mind body and spirit wants to do something for a reason that you know are appropriate I couldn’t be happier to have a guy who walks in the door as a daily inspiration um also from what I’m hearing him being on the pup is more you know he hasn’t played football in a year so it’s kind of a slow bringing him in process he wasn’t there for OTAAS and mini camp so it was kind of like a slow uh thing uh stuff that are going to we’re going to hear until we play games again. Only things we can do uh do is the daily focus in each other is the supreme clarity of what matters and what doesn’t. We are overtalking. We are uh what is there to talk about? We’re here to do work. Please just show us. Grab yourself one. Bradley Chub. yesterday uh an outside uh opinion of the Dolphins team. Uh they talk, we do. That’s what Mike has been saying. At the end of the day, we can do that. Oh, I already said this. Uh you didn’t know my standard uh procedure for out of retirement players. You try to be responsible. Again, being preventative and responsible. That is him talking about Waller being on the pup. Um and then that is it for his presser. So we will talk about what happened today on the field. U Total was sharp with his accuracy completing a bunch of short and intermediate passes. There were some good moments uh from the two 2022 mid round picks uh who need strong uh camps to make the team. One of them linebacker Channing Tindle stood up rookie running back Ali Gordon II on an impressive offensive play. Meanwhile, receiver Eric Yuzukama caught a 20-yard pass from Zack Wilson and a 15 yard from rookie uh Quinn Eers, which I’m very happy to hear. Not only that Eric Yuzukama is making something and doing something so far in camp, but that Zach Wilson and Quinn Eers are connecting on these passes. And hopefully, you know, as training camp goes on, they get more comfortable in this situation. Uh while one corner was injured, another was more fortunate. Rookie quarterback BJ Adams fell to the ground after a parent collision, got up with help, then dropped to the ground again with his hand uh cushing his fall before being assisted off the off by the team personnel. He has returned to practice a bit later. We talked about that on the Dolphin Collective that corners and receivers kind of get hurt a lot because they run a lot and they also run into each other. So again, I’m going to knock on the wood hopefully. please. Uh, Sealer participated in both individual and team drills. That was in question because he reportedly seeking a new contract. Again, he was out there. The practice wasn’t open to the public, but again, but began in the bubble and moved outside for the second half after lightning dissipated in the area. The team uh practiced in the rain for the final 30 minutes or so. The first practice open to the public will be Saturday. Um, guard James Daniels back from his week four torn Achilles last season, participated in team drills before leaving to do conditional work. Daniels, who is playing with a brace on his left knee, looks very fluid and moves while getting into the second level. He was called for a false start early in team drills. I’m just happy the man’s out there. I thought he was going to start on the pup and he didn’t. Guard Brandon Daniels is worth watching. He’s fluid with his movement skills. Very happy to hear that. Uh, with Aatu Melanu a sideline for now, look for Ashen Davis and Elijah Camor to crack at uh, at the safety job opposite Mika Fitzpatrick. Uh, Mike McDaniel suggests that uh, Melanu’s situation isn’t serious. He’s on the non-foot injury list. Fitzpatrick practiced but delayed his media session with reporters for a second consecutive day. Bradley Chub was positioned to get a sack but Austin Jackson held him and drew a penalty. Chub is wearing a brace on his right knee which was injured in week 17. Uh center Aaron Brewer worked on the sideline. His injury, if there is one, has not been disclosed, but uh he did not begin camp on the physically unable to perform list. Andrew Meyer got more work in Brewer’s absence. And I bet your Brunkill was the backup. Alexander Madison showed good burst on a run. He’s comp uh competing with Jaylen Wright and rookie Gordon for carries. Natt Null, the rookie from uh Missouri, showed physical uh showed physicality on a six-yard run. Quinn Us with a 20 yard completion to Arkansas rookie Andrew Armstrong. The Dolphins gave uh 234 guaranteed to the two rookie receivers. I’m really happy to hear Andrew Armstrong. I think he’s a guy to watch. Jaylen R. uh Jaylen Wadd with a 20 yard pass from Tua and Alec Engold then turned up field on a short pass from Tua to gain about 25. Keep an eye on veteran Kendall Sheffield in the battle for the open quarterback job opposite Kar Kohu. Sheffield hasn’t started a game since uh starting 20 for Atlanta in his first two seasons. Um, running back Devon Achan had a nifty 20-yard run. Tua delivered a 10-y completion to Malik Washington, who likely has the inside track for the number four receiver job 100%. Uh, Tua then completed a 15yder to D. Estridge. Um, tight end Tanner Connor fumbled a reception on a 20-ard run and Cam Smith recovered and ran it back for about 20 yards. Not happy to hear Tanner Connor fumble, but I’m happy to hear Cam Smith’s name in there scooping it. And rookie receiver Manray Monteray Baldwin made a nice over-the-shoulder catch from Uers who threw uh one ball low but generally had a good day and seems to have improved his pocket presence from the May June practices. I am very happy to hear that about Quinners. Like I said, I want both of these guys to really um succeed. So, let’s get into some of the videos. Let me make this so you can see it better. And a little bit. So, this is essentially them coming out for practice, the Boise. Then you have this one here again, them coming out for practice. But you got uh Jaylen Wright with his new number five there. This is Eric Yuzakama. They’re not going to show much unless you guys are there so you could see the whole thing. Uh but I’m assuming this is probably from viewers unless it was Wilson who threw the the long one. But good to see. Very very good to see. Um I want to show you. Hold on. something I want to show you. This one right here. Uh M Mika Fitzpatrick huddling up with the secondary. Very very happy to see again taking the leadership role. Then we will get into the pressers for the day. Uh we hear from Kater Kohu. Um twoa another person but Kater uh said Mika Fitzpatrick is a baller. He’s a vet. He is a leader. He’s a rock star if you know that song. Uh Kater on the young group of corners the Dolphins have to start. He said he feels he can play both the boundary and the nickel for this secondary. I would feel more comfortable with him in the nickel. But hey man, if he can if he can go out in that boundary and play better, you know, all for it. Uh he has good feet. He’s a vet. He doesn’t really talk. He just comes in and works every day. Talking about Kendall Sheffield. Uh he is here early. He’s another guy who doesn’t really talk much. He’s all about business. Talking about Mika Fitzpatrick. Uh he uh he’s way more focused. He uh he hasn’t played up to his standard and he knows that his body looks better. He’s taking care of himself a little bit more. Kater talking about Cam Smith. Now, this is Tua. I know we all care about how Tua looks, but to me, uh, he looks look, first of all, look at those flipping leg muscles. Um, he looks in shape. He looks like he’s a nice in between from last year’s slender Tua where he’s like, I want to be more mobile and 2023 he’s bulkier Tua. This looks like a good in between where he’s just physically in shape and ready to go. But in all honesty, I think all of us can agree. Just slide. That’s all we care about is just slide. Uh Tua talking about returning to camp. He he says, “Uh, you miss that community. It’s always good to have your family around, but it’s really different world when you step into the locker room.” Um, Tua says, “Tyreek has been a lot more vulnerable with his teammates this off season. Everyone everybody makes mistakes. It’s just that some people are in the spotlight. You got to cut him some grace. Um, Tua said that Tyreek Hill has I already read that. Um, he continues to build a relationship with Tyreek Hill. Um, which is good to hear. Tua said rebuilding you don’t just come. All right, this one, this is the one that is very, very interesting. Tua said, “Rebuilding the relationship with Tyreek Hill is still work in progress after uh the way the season ended.” He said, “You don’t just come back from that and say my bad.” Uh, I’ve got to be So, obviously, there’s something there. They’re going to, you know, they’re working through it. But I like that he’s taking that leadership role like he’s not just, you know, whatever, we’ll figure it out this, this, and that, but more like he’s taking more of a leadership role in holding these people accountable. and you know, especially with the public and he’s he’s not a pushover anymore. He’s what this is his sixth year. He’s a six-year vet. Really should have all this stuff under control. So, I like this little different shift in his attitude when it comes to that. Ton protecting himself this season. He says, “I’ve got to be more self selfish instead of selfless in the sense that he can’t think uh what the team wants is for him to put his health at risk to make football plays.” So that’s what he means by saying he needs to be more selfish instead of selfless because being selfless thinks I don’t care what happens to me, I need this first down. I don’t care what happens to me, I need to gain this yard. He’s now thinking I got to slide. And at the end of the day, that’s that’s what matters. you are you’re playing I’m like how am I going to say this? He’s essentially playing for not only his future with the Dolphins but Mike McDaniel’s future with the Dolphins. He gets injured. He goes down. We’ve seen time and time again year after year how this team performs without Tua on the field. Regardless if you like him or not, regardless if you think that the offense is predicated to him or not, whatever you want to think, we all see the difference. So, he needs to stay on the field. Plain and simple. Um, Tulle went to lunch with former Alabama teammate Mik Fitzpatrick on Sunday to catch up. Uh, he says, “It’s year six for me. It’s crazy to think that it’s been six years.” Oh, this is Austin Jackson. Sorry. It’s been six years. When I look back, I’m thankful for everything that’s happened. Uh, he says he has to be uh I have to be at my best consistently every game. I play an important role and I actually love that role. Essentially talking about Tua’s blind side. He says the team is at their best when everyone is being their authentic self. I think this is a little bit of a culture locker room thing there. Austin Jackson suggested Mike McDaniel still his authentic self and has not stopped utilizing his sense of humor. Uh but I think he’s also maybe holding people more accountable. Uh we have a lot of experience in the front seven. This is from Jordan Brooks. Uh and a lot of talent there. We pride ourselves on being dominant. Uh Jordan Brooks said I don’t think uh any trust was lost with Tyreek Hill. He said uh they see him every day and that he’s hardworking and a great guy. Also said that the belief that any trust was lost is more of an outside narrative. Um and then that’s it. That’s all from today. Again, we don’t get that much of an indepth breakdown when it comes to um on the field stuff and you know, yada yada because you guys aren’t there. So, they can’t really tell us who’s running with who. Legally, they signed NDAs to beat Rers. Again, if you weren’t watching the Dolphin Collective yesterday, they kind of joked about that. They can’t tell us like is Jonah on the left guard or the right guard? Is Daniel on the right guard or the left guard? James Daniels. They can’t tell us that stuff. But once Saturday, everyone’s there. They can kind of be a little bit more open. That’s where you get the seven on seven breakdowns, the 11 on 111, the red zones, the this, the that. Whereas like when it’s closed off to the public, which is these next two days after today, uh it’s more kind of what you just got. So, you know, we can’t really give a full assessment of how practice was today. It’s just good to hear yours and uh Zach Wilson connecting on passes. It’s good to hear Tua is still, you know, doing two of things during practice. Uh it’s not good to hear about the injuries. Hopefully those are, you know, not big deals and those players bounce back eventually. Um but overall, it’s day one of training camp. It’s good to get back into the groove of football. It’s good to get back into the groove of things. Uh comment below what’s your thoughts on day one. I will see you guys tomorrow for day two. Uh probably around this same time. Probably around like 3 4:00 you’ll get the video. Um, but yeah, because tomorrow we have the Dolphin Collective at 7:30. So, yeah, I’m I’m a busy man. But other than that, I’ll see you tomorrow like usual. Stay classy.

  1. @DouglieDoWrong I'm so glad you break down the Mike McD pressers. I absolutely can't stand to listen to the man talk and say 34 uh and umms a minute….. He been doing this full time for 3 going on 4 years you think he would take a little more pride in his public speaking abilities and fix that shit… You staring at the bottom left and the shirt popping up on the top right was hiliarious.

  2. We have the worst injury prevention program in the NFL whoever our strength conditioning or team physician is or whoever deals with the health of the players they suck we need new people there obviously whoever's been there the last 5 years fire them and rehire somebody different from another d*** team hell go get somebody from the Ravens or the niners anybody s***

  3. First day of training camp for the nightmare last season of Grier/mcdaniel, more claims of the team being tougher or more physical, and we have two offensive lineman and a cornerback, our two weakest-depth positions, down on day one๐Ÿ˜Š

  4. They need to keep the practices intense this year. if they can't last they don't deserve to be here. Fish out the week early

P.S Chris Grier love's resigning injury-prone players that he drafted. Or FA ๐Ÿ˜‚

  5. Zach Wilson had an awesome day throwing lasers and long completions with touch in the heavy rain. Tua was good as usual. Ewers had one nice 10-yard pass, but made some poor throws (maybe it was the rain or maybe it was just rookie nerves). PS. It was Zach Wilson who threw that long bomb that you refer to.

  6. Saw a story wanted to share to u but was working. Taj Washington is wearing #7 which is Jason sanders number fins can save 3.3 million on cap and the story is saying something is up that sanders could be cut check it out if u can find article that would be crazy and stupid if we did
