Big news for the Red Birds stay. Eric Fetty designated for assignment. Chip, it’s about wins at this level and unfortunately Eric Fetty had some inconsistencies getting to that point and they had to make a move. Michael McGrevy has earned his spot. That’s the reason why this move was made. The Rockies will send Tanner Gordon to the mound. Earlier today, the Rockies made it official. They put Herm Marcus with bicep tendinitis on the injured list. Tanner Gordon is up and making the start. Two-2 and a line drive caught about ankle high by Ryan McMahon. One out and backto-back three passes. Two on, one out. And Contrarus is coming up. He’s got a 350 road trip working. Swung on and miss. So Gordon comes inside. Adds a couple miles an hour and gets the second out on a strike out of Contraras. So here’s Aronado and a ground ball to short and that’s a good pick up by Tovar to end the inning. Good work to get out of trouble by Tanner Gordon. No score as the Rockies come to bat. Andre Palante ready to go to work here in Denver. Ready to turn around his fortunes swing dog. It’s been a rough 10game stretch for the Cardinals right hand. He’s got to get the ball on the ground. Be aggressive. And he shoots one to short. Mason win. Long strong throw and that takes care of Freeman. And a first ground ball out for Palante. Hopefully a sign of more things to come. Little dribbler back to the mound. Palante’s got his second ground ball out. That’s a good sign. Soft contact there. Two for nine in the series for Hunter. This is going to be a really tough play even for Nolan. And it’ll be a leg hit for Hunter Goodman. And a good thing is the ground balls are there. Nolan was playing really deep against Goodman. You have to be perfect even to get an opportunity to get him on that one. And it brings in Jordan Beck. Slow roller. Palante will catch up to that and he’ll apply the tag. Excellent work by Palante. Soft contact the story in his first inning. He was a grass cutter. Three ground ball out sends us to score a second. So two pitches in the inning and two outs. Tanner Gordon is in an even count with Joel Po and a base hit the other way. Second hit of the inning and game for the Cardinals. A two strike knock for the catcher. No, it’s caught by Amodore over the shoulder. Boniac eased up and grabbed by Amodore and a nice running catch for out number three. It work again for Tanner Gordon in this second inning. Rockies have their second base runner. One out as Austin Nola comes up. This ball on base hit for Nola. Matt is going to try to go first to third and the throw wisely from Scott goes to second. So two aboard, one out for Kyle Farmer. Scoring opportunity for the Rockies here. And he does. How about lifting it cleanly to center field for an RBI single. Well done, Kyle Farmer. One- nothing Colorado. Here’s Adel Ambador. He’s four for six coming back from Albuquerque. And this is going to find its way to the left side. Around third is Nle. He’s coming home. Throw ice way. Good slide with help from Tyler Freeman coaching him up. Good for Amodore. His fifth hit now in the series. Stopping at second base was Farmer. So first and second still for the Rockies. Tyler Freeman still just one out. This is down the right field line onto the glove of Contrarus. Farmer will score. Aador to third. Make it three to nothing Colorado. Find the holes within the infield defense of the Cardinals. And now the hottest hitters in baseball the last two months. Mickey Monia. And this is a base hit right center field. Four nothing Colorado. Freeman will go first to third. Lorrai singling the Cards to death here in the second. Moniac’s 39th Ribby. Hunter and infield single. His first time up. Freeman and Monia aboard. That shot toward second. Mason win to the bag for one. And the throw to first is going to be in time. And boy do the Cardinals need that. Goodman hits into a double play that stops the bleeding. But four runs on five hits. Two out in the inning. Jordan Walker stands in. He lines one into left center field. That ball’s going to get down for a hit. Walker rounds first. He goes into second standing up. So a two out double from Jordan Walker. Keeps the inning alive. That was 104 off the bat. 110 on the double play he hit into. 01 on Poso. And this is popped up foul ground. And Max got a play. So that’s all for the Cardinals in the fourth. Walker left at second base. The Rockies have all the runs. Rocky’s seventh straight retired by Palante. Tyler Freeman in the top of the order and he spits on that slider. He draws a walk. Mickey’s one for two. He had an RBI hit in the fourth. Eighth pitch of this plate appearance and a swing and a miss. Palante finally takes care of Moniaak who leads the majors in batting average since June 1st. Hunter Goodman hit to a double play that stopped the bleeding in the fourrun Rocky’s second. And a base hit off the end of the back for Hunter Goodman. Freeman with the baseball right in front of him will stop at second. So two aboard, one out. Four out of five will work with runners in scoring position. Left fielder Jordan Beck and off the glove into left center field. Freeman should be able to score. He will. And back heading towards second. It’ll be an RB off the double. The Rockies are five of six with runners in scoring position. Masonic had a chance at it, but it went off the very top of his glove. And the Rockies now lead it five to nothing. Now with two in scoring position with Mack here at the plate and he gets McMahon. Center cut, breaking ball. McMahon can’t believe he missed it. Palante gets the strike out. Two are down in the inning. And now it’ll be Tobar and a swing and a miss. Pump fist from Poso. Those are some well executed pitches by Palante. Tanner Gordon making just his fourth appearance for the Rockies at big league level this year. He’s enjoying a fine afternoon. So a one out double for Contraras. Nolan Aronado’s coming up. This is a broken bat. One hopper tovar. Two outs. The tough out here. Mason win. One for two. Hard ground ball to Farmer. He’s got it. Runs to the bag. Well done Tanner Gordon. Six shut out innings. Well, Tanner Gordon was absolutely phenomenal today. Just four hits, three Ks, three walks. We don’t want to see that, but he did a good job getting himself out of it with the ground balls. He got nine ground ball outs, keeping the hitters off balance, getting the weak contact. That’s what you want to see from a guy like Tanner Gordon. Pretty impressive, right? I mean, three out of four starts he’s made this season. He’s gone six innings. The left-hander John King comes on to face the left-handed hitting Ryan McMahon. Second appearance in the series for King. He’s looking for another hit in the inning. They have one from Beck plus the walk from Goodman. Bad strike over the outside corner and King puts out a seventh inning fire. All right, we got six outs left. We’re down five runs in game three. Ezekiel Tovire will lead it off against left-hander John King deep right field. Walker is going to watch this. Ezekiel Tovar with his fifth of the year. 6 nothing Colorado. Man, you got to be strong to go opposite field. That’s a slider. It’s a way. It is warm, so the ball will fly a little bit more in course field day games.
