Your results from day 7 – This one was one of the closest votes – 8 votes separated 5th from 6th, and there was a hot competition for opening day starter, while the 3, 4, and 5 spots in the rotation also had quite a bit of jostling. In the end, Jeff "Shark" Samardzjia, famous for having a 1.46 ERA through 10 starts without a win and being traded for Addison Russell (among others), Human Rain Delay Steve Trachsel (who I have argued with on Facebook…true story), Jason Marquis (whose accomplishments I can't remember), Ted Lilly, famous for slamming his glove down on the mound after giving up a homer, and Matt Clement, who, for the decade-plus from the end of the 2003 season to the 2015 wildcard game, held the dubious title of "Last Cub pitcher to win a playoff game", win the starting jobs.

Onto day 8! Relief pitchers are often the ultimate "Guys", but who are the most "Some Guy" relief pitchers to play for the Cubs?

After today, I'll look at the runners up from previous votes to create a bench, and then fill out the 25-man roster with however many relief pitchers we can take.

Rules reminders:

  • There's no set criteria for a Guy to be remembered – they're players from the past that you don't think of that much, but occasionally pop into your head, usually to get a low score on Immaculate Grid. Generally, they're not too good or too famous. If we're talking about the Bulls, then Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen aren't Guys (nor is some random G-leaguer who played one game for the Bulls), but Randy Brown, Jud Buechler, and Bill Wennington? Definitely Guys.
  • Post one (and only one) nominee per top-level comment, and vote for the ones that you deem to be the most "Some Guy".
  • Nominees should be primarily (or at least largely…utility players are welcome too) known for playing the position they're being nominated for.
  • No rule set in stone for how long they had to have spent on the team, but this is "oh yeah, I remember that Guy", and not "who??"

  1. Man. Terry Mulholland. He took the time to sign autographs for me and my brother after a game back in the 90s. Will never forget him!

  2. LaTroy Hawkins. I remember him blowing a few big saves late in 2004 and I never forgave him despite him starting out with my beloved Fort Wayne Wizards. He’s also Patrick Mahomes’ godfather.

  3. I know we is a WS champ, but

    Carl Edwards Jr

feels like he fits the description
