MLB LIVE🔴 Texas Rangers vs Oakland Athletics – Jul 23, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
Baseball from the Lone Star State. An AOS matchup on the show. It’s the Athletics and the Texas Rangers. First pitch coming at you right after the break. your Texas Rangers. [Applause] Just about ready to roll. And on the hill, Kumar Rocker and Singi, we were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots. Yeah, he’s definitely had a struggle so far this year as evidenced by that inflated whip, but he’s going to have to find a way to limit the base runners, put his team in a position to win a ball game. So, we know he’s prepared. We know this guy’s a competitor, and we’ll watch how he works in this one. Jacob Wilson, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. That’s a laser base hit. Man aboard on the leadoff single. Really good swing right there. He got a pitch that he knew he could handle. Allowed himself to stay back just a tad bit longer and he hit the ball on the screws. Now the number two hitter, Brent Rooker. [Music] And that’s off the inside edge. And it’s one and0. And another ball. All right. Fast ball for a strike. Next offering is fouled back. Nobody out. Runner at first. Spoils the two strike pitch. And he’ll see another. 22 now. Double play ball to second. Over to Seager to two. Oh man, what a smooth double play. That was a thing of beauty from start to finish. Nick, Nick Curts up next for the A’s. He’s done a great job making contact recently. can make it a fivegame hitting streak with a knock in this one. That one’s in there. 0 and one. Two outs. Late swing. Foul to the left. Fly ball down the line. Langford on his way over. He’s got it. And that is out number three. A Z Rangers coming up. Major League Baseball is on the show. Back in Arlington. And our pitcher in this game, Luis Severino. What do you look for here? Well, you can see his whip is a little above the league average. Not bad, but I think in this one, he’s going to need to control that a little bit better. Try to limit hitters from getting on base. Stay in that wind up instead of the stretch. And when he does allow base runners, be able to throw a pitch. He’s going to get a swing anding miss. Get out of the inning so that a base hit doesn’t do more damage and put his team behind the eightball. Josh Smith leading things off and takes a strike. And strike two. Oh, two [Music] in the air right side. Rooker makes the catch for the out. And there’s one down. And now we take a look at the Rangers lineup. And this is a dangerous group, Chris. Top to bottom, loaded with players who can barrel up the baseball. A lot of high exit velocities. And that all results in a club that’s leading the league in slugging percentage right now. And boo, that that means the pitcher got to be ready from the very first pitch of each and every at bat because these hitters, they’re ready to jump all over you. and they’ve got the swing speed, the velocity through the zone, however you want to measure it, to hit the ball hard and hit it a long way. There’s no question this is a lineup that is built to win in today’s modern game of baseball. And that one upstairs. Way to lay off that fast ball up right there. You’re looking for something you see well that you can handle, but you also have to keep the discipline so that you’re not popping up pitches that are just a little too high. in the air left side. Langelers puts it away and there are two down. Batting third, the second baseman, Marcus, two down, bases in. Now it’s Marcus Simeon. Let’s go Marcus. check swing and he went and that is strike one. One strike fought off foul. [Music] Two down. That’s a ball. Went with the sweeper. That misses two and two. [Music] Two out. Space is empty. [Music] And a ground ball to first. He takes it himself to the bag. And that’ll do it. Nothing doing for the Rangers. Scoreless after one. And we’re back. Leading off Shay Langalers. Number 23, Shay Langalers. Rocker back to work. Yeah, that’s fouled off [Applause] [Music] outside low and that’s ball one. Rusty Valentine calling balls and strikes. Boo, something I hear from hitters about Valentine is they know they don’t have to protect off the plate too much in two strike counts and that can be a big deal in terms of your confidence and seeing some pitches in that at bat. Next offering is in the dirt. [Music] Swing at a line drive ripped out into right center. That’s a base hit. So a man on base to start the inning. Well, they call that an advantage count for a reason. You’re so much more likely to get something you can handle. Nice job of driving that pitch the other way on a line. And you know, hitters, they take so many reps in the cages working on going to the opposite field and it doesn’t always translate into the game, but right there it did and he did it perfectly. Here’s Miguel and Duhar. Late swing fouled all. Ruer at first with no outs here. Here we go. Close but called a ball. Ball one. Oh, two in one. And there’s a foul ball. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Next pitch misses and it’s three and two. Really good take, especially with two strikes. He swings and drives one out to deep left field. See you later. He made him pay for that one. His fourth home run of the season. And they jump ahead in the second. It’s two nothing. He absolutely feasts on right-handed pitching and devours that one for a homer. And you can see that’s what he expects of himself at bat after at bat. He’s that confident. Knew what pitch he wanted to hit. Spit on some other pitches in this at bat. Was very patient and it paid off. Next up for the A’s, Maxy and misses inside. Can be tough to bounce back after a big home run, but nobody on, nobody out. You just have to treat it as a fresh inning. [Applause] And there’s the strike. Nobody out with a pair of runs across in the frame here in the top of the second. [Applause] comes up empty. That’s strike two. So hard to touch being at the top of the zone. 99, 98, even 97 as pitchers do such a good job of teasing that part of the zone. Just elevating a little bit. It looks good because you see it for a good while as a hitter. Looks juicy and by the time you swing, it’s almost in the catcher’s mid. Here’s Luis Oas in there and it’s 0 and one. How about this one, Boo? In 2023, Aras hit grand slams for Boston in back-to back plate appearances. They happened on different days, but he still became the first Red Sox player to do it since Jimmy Fox in 1940. One out, base is empty. [Applause] Ground ball left side. Throw over to TZ and there’s two down. Good armside run to that same side hitter right there. Very difficult to put that ball in the air or get through it. Just bores in on the hands. Two outs. Base is empty. Next to hit, Austin wins. Right through there for a strike. There it was. Oh, here it is. Hit it. He gets a take. Gets ahead in a count. [Applause] And that one hammered. That’s back there. And it hits the fence. Makes the turn and heads for second. And he’ll pull in there with a stand up double. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. Put a pretty good swing on that one as he drove it out to deep left. didn’t quite have the right combination of launch angle and exit velocity to get it over the fence, but you’re never going to be disappointed with extra bases. So, runner at second, two down. Clark getting ready to hit. Turned on but foul wide of third. Runner at second. Two down. [Applause] [Applause] And that is downstairs now. One and two. [Music] And there’s a ball. And now it’s three and two. Jacob Wilson next to bat for the A’s. [Applause] Slice the other way. That’s a base hit. And they hold him at third. 90 ft away with two out. The batter number five. Anytime you rip a line drive the other way, you feel really good about what you did at the plate. You trusted your hands. You let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it. That’s great work right there. Back to the top of the lineup now. Here’s the leadoff hitter for the A’s, Jacob Wilson inside. And that is ball one. [Applause] And a foul ball. [Applause] Line drive, base hit, one run across. Throw in holds that trail runner at third base. They’re at the corners with two away. Couple of hits in a row for him here. Showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way. Didn’t get jumpy. Didn’t try to pull the ball. He let it get deep. took the barrel right to it and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit. So, two outs with runners on the corners. Brent Rooker up next for the A’s. [Applause] And now it’s even up. One [Applause] and that drops in for a strike at the belt and finals. Comebacker to the mound. Throws the first in time. That ends the inning and they limit the damage. Three runs for him here and they move ahead. We go to the bottom of inning number two. It’s the A’s three and the Rangers nothing. Bottom half of inning number two. Now it’s the right fielder Adoleis Garcia. Garcia Garcia. First pitch just misses. A three-0 lead is great, but you can’t get too comfortable. Got to stay aggressive. Keep attacking hitters. Try to cruise through this ball game. That misses the zone. And that’s ball two. Foul ball. And that one is downstairs now. Three and one. [Applause] That one fouled off. Hacks and misses. It’s a strike out. Great location with that two strike fast ball. I tell you what, as a hitter, you’re looking to protect the outside part of the plate, stay back on something off speed. So many times that location with two strikes, you just can’t get around on it. And that’s a tough one to compete with. And now the DH Evan Carter swing and a popup. Foul territory for the catcher. Hauls it in for the out. Two down. Batting six. The left fielder, Wyatt Langford. Two down, base is empty. So, next to hit for Texas, Wyatt Langford, [Applause] handles, throws to first, and it’s a one, two, three inning. Nothing across here this half. We head on down to the top of the third. It’s the A’s three and the Rangers nothing. Back at Globe Life Field and here’s the first baseman, Nick Curts. Kurt, it’s been a rough start on the mound for this guy. This third inning so important for him to get on track, turn the page, settle in, do all those things you need to do to give your team a little bit of length in this one. At 96, that pitch is in for a strike. That one missing inside. Swing and a highf fly ball left field. Langford. Puts it away for the out. The left fielder number 23, Shay. Next up for the A’s, Jay Langalers. One for one with a single so far. Langelers measures 6 feet even batting in the cleanup spot and he was a third round pick back in 2019. So a foul ball makes it one and two. One down. Base is empty. Foul ball still a one and two count. [Music] Keeps the atbat going with a foul ball. That one misses. Two balls, two strikes. Fouled off. And they’ll do it again. [Music] And that’s downstairs and outside. Okay. Come on, let’s go. And he walked. That’s a great at bat. He saw a lot of pitches and earned a walk. A great back and forth in that at bat. He had to play off some really close pitches. And somehow, he found a way to keep the bat on his shoulder right there. I’ll tell you right now, I couldn’t have done it. [Music] And Duhar in the box now. No balls in a strike. There it was. A high velocity fast ball in the zone. I think a little frustration from walking the previous hitter. He’s got good stuff. Pitch inside the zone and trust it. Just missed. Blind drive. That’s a base hit into right field. The throw in and the throw’s offline. Safe at third. Now batting third base Maxy. So digging in, Maxy. He’s 0 for one. Fast ball for a strike at 95. Langeliers on third on Duhar over at first with one away. Ground ball up the middle. Oh, look at the stop. Here’s one. What a double play that was. Inning over. So, no runs here on a base hit. No errors and one left. We head now to the home half of inning number three. It’s the A’s three and the Rangers nothing and welcome back to the ballpark. Here’s Rowdy to the first baseman Rowdy. Hard grounder into the outfield for a knock and the leadoff man aboard. Well, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. Kyle Higashioa stepping in for the Rangers. [Applause] Foul ball there. [Applause] And that one popped in the air left field. Langelers makes the play. One away. Just pulled off of it a little bit right there. That front shoulder coming open instead of staying closed. If he does that, he’s going to be able to go up the middle the other way with some authority instead of a fly out to left. Next up for Texas, Alejandro Ozuna. Ball one there. This guy absolutely flies. The defense wants to turn two, but they’ve got to get a ball they can do it with. Make sure you get the first out before you try to rush and get two and end up with nothing. Severino strike one. Just threw that fast ball by him elevated. And if you’re not looking up in that location, very difficult to catch up to, especially with that velocity. The 1-1 is fouled off. the one two swings through that one. It’s a strike out. Now batting the lineup flips over now. The third baseman Josh Smith flyed to right his first time. Just missed. Was good pitch there. one and really had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, you had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. Two outs. Next pitch in for a strike and the count one and two. Fights it off. He’ll see another [Music] gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. Little early on that fast ball. I’m sure the pitcher taking a note. Look for an off speed pitch on this next one. And that one is inside. Oh, this is a guy that can be frustrating for pitchers because he fouls off so many pitches and grinds out the at bat. I’m sure there’s sometimes where a pitcher would rather just give up a first pitch single than have to waste six or seven pitches on one hitter. Cory Seager hoping for a chance. He would represent the tying run. Yeah, Boo. Plenty of power in that bat. They’d love to give him a shot here. That’s hard hit on the line. And that ends the inning. Rangers leave one. They trail in this one three nothing. Back in Arlington as we go to the top of the fourth. Now it’s the second base Luis Ras. Luis Uriz. Come on Rangers. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Jack Lighter getting ready to go. Bosley getting loose as well. Just missed. Well, usually a high level of confidence when you’re facing a young pitcher out there on the mound. In this situation, ahead 200, he’s put himself in a really good spot. And that’s a little bit high. And that’s ball three. And there’s the automatic. Three in one. And that is out of play. in the air to left center. Langford sizing this one up. Drops into the glove and there’s one down. The batter, the catcher, Austin. Austin wins up next for the A’s. Doubled his first time. Rangers. [Music] That one ripped but foul. Look out. That ball was smoked. Man, I am so relieved that they have this netting down the line just ensure safety for the fans. Last thing is a player you want to look up and see a fan get hit. And he beats it. He’s safe. Wasting no time. He’s two for two now on the night and just a triple and home run away from the cycle. Seriously, we’re starting with this already. And the Rangers manager making his way towards the mound now as he will make the move. Kumar Rocker won’t go any further. It’s a three-run game and we’ll be back to tell you about the new arm in a minute. Now pitching for Jack Lighter takes over on the mound. Pretty tight game. So they’re looking for quality pitches out of them right here. Got to do his best to keep the score right where it is. Next up for the A’s, Denzel Clark. And he’s already singled in this game. Up and in ball one. man at first, one away. And it’s fouled away. Cuts and misses. It’s a strike out. He had him out in front, which isn’t easy to do against a hitter like this, known for using the entire field. Just couldn’t sit back long enough on that one. Now, here’s the leadoff hitter for the A’s, Jacob Wilson. Pop foul out of play off to the right. Wins off of first with two away. Check. Swing. Did he go? Yes, he did. No ball. Too straight on the ground to the left and that’s just foul. Fights that one away and the count remains 0 and2. Let’s go down the line and that will drop foul. [Music] swaying in a ball popped in the air. Makes the catch and that is that. The A’s strand one, but they lead it three nothing. Bottom four batter now Cory Seager. Not only can he hit the cover off the ball, he’s got a great eye as well. Seager checks his swing. Appeal to third and that’s going to be ruled a swing. A swing and a foul out of play. and it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. Swinging a highf fly ball deep left field. That one is back and that’s going to bang against the wall around first and hustling for second and it’s a leadoff double to start the bottom of the fourth. Good two strike hitting right there. Boo. A bit of a lost start for some. So that was nicely done to beat the odds. Fast ball pretty much middle middle and that’s what you fall asleep dreaming about as a hitter. So no surprise he put a great swing on it. runner in scoring position. No outs. Simeon now at the plate. He’s 0 for one. And that’s downstairs. And it’s one to know. Well, here’s a good opportunity in this inning to get on the scoreboard after that leadoff hit. And hardly order coming up right behind them. This is where they need to get going. Go. And that’s through there for a strike. And the count one and one now. Marcus a career-high 45 homers in 2021 with the Blue Jays. He parlayed that into a 7-year free agent deal with the Rangers and a base hit right there. Coming home, he’ll score. It’s an RBI single and it’s now a two-run game. Picks himself up an RBI. Just a really nice approach to shoot that line drive to the opposite field. There’s a lot of hard work and discipline that goes into getting a result like that at the plate. Doesn’t come naturally for most hitters. Adoleis Garcia digs in now. Struck out swinging his first time. Swung on. Belted. Clark on the move. And that one hops the wall. Runner around third. He’ll score easily. Didn’t take long to get a result for that at bat. That pretty much split the zone down the middle. And those are the ones where you got to make them pay. [Applause] Evan Carter the next to hit. Popped out and foul ground first time through. [Applause] And that’s in for a strike. Well, he’s been incredibly efficient in this one. first pitch strike percentage over 70%. That’s well above league average and that’s what’s allowed him to pitch well up until this point. Severino kicks deals and that one fouled off. [Applause] Going to count one and two. A’s leading by a run. [Applause] [Applause] man at second. That one missed. Well, clearly not too happy with the call there. Thought he caught the top of the zone and you could pretty much read his lips saying that’s not up. [Applause] He never moved cuz he never had time to. With that kind of velocity, you’d prefer that pitcher work away and ball four to a. He’s making things difficult for himself right now out there on the mound, but you know, his confidence should still be high enough to get out of this, but he’s going to have to buckle down right here. Wyatt Langford stepping in for the Rangers. 0 for one so far. Fast for a strike. There’s an opportunity to do some damage, but you’ve got to be selective. Make sure you get a pitch that you can handle. [Applause] swing and a miss. Just not able to catch up to that velocity. One and two. O2 fast ball way out of the zone. I think he’s trying to speed him up. Got to stay back. Off speed’s probably coming. [Applause] Swang in a line drive and that’s a base hit into right field headed for the play. He scores to tie it up. That’s a good jump right there. Got two strikes on. You just got to battle. [Applause] So, here comes Rowdy TZ. Golden opportunity right here. Pitch misses. And that’s ball one. [Applause] right side. Hard hit there for the out. Runner scores from third. Well, you’re definitely looking to do more with that opportunity at the plate. Two runners in scoring position, but at least he puts the ball in play. They bring across one run. Still one out there. Kyle Hagashi stepping in for the Rangers. fly to left his first time [Applause] at 96. That pitch is in for a strike. The A’s bullpen has some movement. JP Sears preparing to come on if needed. Lopez getting cranked up as well. [Applause] Right through there for his strike. Quickly down O2 in the count. I think you got to choke up a little bit. Spread out the feet. You don’t know what the velocity or the location of this next pitch is going to be. Swing and a popup. Kurts has this one sized up. Two away now. Now batting center fielder Alejandro Ouda. Up next for the Rangers, Alejandro Ozuna struck out swinging his first time. And this is a big opportunity for him to pick up his teammate right here. Just missed. [Applause] That one is absolutely belted. Hits the fence. The run scores from third. It’s 53. Comes through with the RBI. Just missed out on a home run right there, but he certainly hit it hard enough. Just didn’t have the right launch angle to carry it over the wall, but still an excellent swing of the bat. So, the batting order turns over and now it’s the Rangers leadoff hitter, Josh Smith. [Music] [Applause] fast ball for a strike at 95. comes up empty as he chases that one in the dirt. Catcher has it, fires the first. That completes the strike out. Inning over. So, five runs in the inning as they bat around. We’re headed to the fifth. It’s the Rangers five and the A’s three. And we’re back. Ready now for the fifth inning. And now the right fielder Brent Rooker taken high in the draft. He’s had that top prospect label over him since he put on a professional uniform. But at some point that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level. That one finds the zone and that’s strike one. You know, these A’s digging into their numbers have to be happy with the swings they’re taking. We’ve seen how many line drive base hits they’ve been able to produce in this one. Six to be exact. And they’ve all been pretty loud to first. And the leadoff hitter retired in the fifth. Digging in, Nick Curts. B for two in this one. [Music] Base is empty. One away. And we’re in the top of the fifth. And that’s fouled off. popped in the air left field. Langford makes the grab for the second out. The left fielder number 23, Shay Lang. And next will be the cleanup hitter, Shay Langalers. And a foul ball. Two down to [Music] its way to the corner and no one can get to it. It’s a foul ball. Just missed. Really good slider. He’s up there just hoping that it ends up off the plate away. up the middle and it finds its way through for a hit and that extends the inning. I don’t think that pitch would have been called a strike, but now he did such a nice job of pulling his hands tight to the body and just getting enough of the barrel on it to be hard enough back up the middle for a knock. Man at first, Miguel Anduhar up next for the A’s to the right side. Simeon toss over to first. Out number three. Now pitching for the back now to start the bottom of the fifth. And taking over on the mound, JP Sears. This southpaw’s been really good against left-handed hitters. Here comes Cory Seager. One for two. The shortstop. Cory Seager inside. Just missed. Sears fills up the zone, forces contact. So, not a huge strikeout guy, but he’s going to make the hitters beat him. doesn’t issue a lot of walks. So, the pressure is really on the batter to make something happen. That one pushed foul. And although you like the fact that guy throws strikes, guy gets contact and not always great contact. The fact that when you have runners on, if that ball’s in play, there’s still a good chance that a run gets pushed across whether it’s earned or not. In plenty of time first and the lead offense set down in their half of the fifth. Simeon. Here is Marcus Simeon. Command in the zone is such a crucial part of it, right? You know, it’s not just throwing strikes, but it’s throwing quality strikes and having quality misses as well. What’s a quality miss? Missing just off the plate rather than over the plate. Now batting the right fielder Garcia. One down. Next to bat will be the Texas cleanup hitter, Adoleis Garcia. [Applause] Swinging a foul straight back. Simeon stands at first with one out. No. [Applause] Come on, Rangers. Let’s go Texas. The 1-1 is fouled off. [Applause] That’s off the mark. And the count is two and two. Two strike. Step off. Throw to first. Simeon back in. [Applause] got him looking and there’s two down. Oh, just a beautiful fast ball on the inside corner for that backwards K right there. I think the hitter saw it all the way coming from that opposite arm angle. So, I got to think he was looking away and just got locked up by the hard stuff boring in on his hands. Evan Carter getting ready to hit. [Music] swing and a ball ripped right field and that one back and that one is gone. [Applause] He’ll circle the bases. Home run number five on the season and they add on. It’s 73. [Applause] Well, it was a hanger and pitchers typically don’t get away with making a mistake like that. And right there, he made him pay. [Applause] So two away with nobody on now. The left fielder Wyatt Langford first pitch and he just misses. One and0. [Applause] And that one clips the corner. [Applause] That one outside and a count. Two and one. [Music] [Applause] way out front for strike two. Two two. [Applause] Good eye right there. Two down, nobody on. Last half of inning number five. Battling here as he fouls it away. [Music] [Applause] right side. Rooker hauls it into Indiana. Texas plates two on the homer. It’s now a four-run lead at 73. New inning getting started. Here’s the third baseman, Maxy. Muny. Muny goes 6’1, 22 years old. A former first round pick in 2021. Swing and a miss as he was late that time. Check swing called strike. That is strike two. That front door slider is such a devastating pitch. You don’t want to get beat by the inside fast ball. So you cheat a little bit and then by the time it gets there, it’s out of the swing plate. And now one and two. One ball, two straight. And they’ll do it again. Well, they gave up on that pitch early and it ended up staying in the zone. I’m sure he’s kicking himself and would like that pitch again. On the ground, Simeon. The throw to first. One up, one down. Now batting second baseman, Luis Uri. Next up for the A’s, Luis Urias. Come on, Texas. Let’s go. That is upstairs for ball one. The Rangers leading by four and we’re the top half of the sixth. Fast for a strike. Inside gets out of the way. All three. [Music] This guy’s got a great feel for his breaking ball today. One down. Base is empty on the ground. Right side. Throw over to TZ. Two quick outs to open the top of the six. Now batting catcher Austin wins. Austin wins up next for the A’s. Let’s go Rangers. Swings and misses. He’s been great in this one. Eye hand coordination just failed him a little bit right there. outside low and now it’s even one and one. This one smoked could be trouble around first heading for two. Pulls in with a double. Third hit for him today. He was all over that one. Just a cookie down the middle. I mean those are the ones you dream about. The ones in the cage, you’re just hoping you get in the ball game. Right down the middle. Not a whole lot of velocity. Right on top of it. Could be a chance here for them to start clawing back into this ball game. So, runner at second, two down. Denzel Clark now at the plate. And the first offering is not close. [Music] And that’s in for a strike. One way to make a guy real uncomfortable at the plate is pound him inside with good velocity. They’re doing that right here. Next, offering way off the plate. That’s a little bit low. Jacob Wilson in the on deck circle for the A’s. There’s a swing and a drive and it one hops the wall. runner comes in from second to score and they cut the lead. Showed some really nice patience in that at bat. Worked himself into a good count. Textbook bat control right there. Got a pitch on the outside, saw it deep into the zone and just barreled it up. Went the other way for the knock. And the batter will be the shorts stop. Jacob Wilson ripped on a line and makes the grab and that is that. A’s get one on the RBI double. It’s now 74. Back at Globe Life Field, bottom of the sixth inning. And now it’s Rowdy Tles. Sears back to work. Just missed. Well, these Rangers, simply put, are producing a lot of quality swings. They have five extra base hits on the stat sheet so far, and that tells me they’re seeing the ball out of the pitcher hand really well. That one’s spoiled. And the count now two and one. With all those extra base hits, it’s easy to think we’re going to see that trend continue the rest of the game. They seem to be really locked in at the plate. [Music] And that’s in the dirt. Two strike. [Applause] And a foul ball. He stays alive. Fouled off again and it remains three and two. [Music] Good job to fight that one off. Here’s the pitch to Tens. And a swing and a miss. Beat him with a fast ball. Thought it was a pretty good pitch. Top of the strike zone. We’re seeing more fast balls in that location. Hitters, especially with two strikes, have to be ready to pull the trigger. So, next to hit for Texas, Kyle Hagashi. Here we go. Ranger. First pitch misses. And there’s the strike. Probably the best one we have seen. Throwing it where he wanted to have a nice tight spin to it and a teaser just off the edge of the plate. The 1-1 is fouled off. next offering upstairs. These first two hitters really making him work out there. Already 14 pitches this inning. Foul ball. Another two- two upcoming. [Music] and downstairs. Recognize that change up right out of the hand. Just spit on it. Foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch. Quite the matchup we’re seeing here. Six foul balls in this at bat alone. Really making them work out there. Swing and a line drive. base hit out of the center field. He forced a lot of pitches to be thrown and ends up collecting a hit. But when you see that many pitches in an at bat, your chances of succeeding go up. And right there we see the result. Alejandro Ozuna digs in now. Swinging a ball line to center. Clark snags it for the second out. Now batting third baseman Josh Smith. Now the third baseman Josh Smith 0 for three in this one. Here we go in the dirt. Higashioa the runner at first with two gone fought off foul towards first. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. One left for Texas. They hold a 7-4 lead. Now pitching. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound, Jacob Webb. And he’s been really shutting down hitters from the right side of the plate this year. Not a lot of hard contact, not a lot of hits, period. Now, the number two hitter, Brent Rooker. Three ground outs already. He’s 0 for three. Rooker. The Athletics in striking distance but have some work to do. Boog. It starts with the laid-off man. I need a good at bat out of him right here. Tapped at the plate, but it’s a foul ball. That one catches the zone and it’s on two. and struck him out and there’s one down. Take a look at the three pitch sequence here. Pretty simple in terms of putting him away at the plate. Once you’re ahead 02 as a pitcher, you can really expand the zone and see how aggressive that hitter is going to be trying to protect and battle. And right there, clearly he was in swing mode, but all you can do is hope to foul that off. Nick Curts up next for the A’s. And he pumps it a strike. [Applause] Next offering is in for a strike. All right. Now, he may have not liked either of those first two pitches or agreed with the umpire’s calls, but at this point, he’s going to have to bear down and be ready to hit anything close to the zone. And one and two bullpen action for the Rangers. Caleb Bosley up and loosening in the pen. Milner, the left-hander, also throwing. [Music] This one popped up. Foul ground first base side. They got it for out number two. So up next, Shay Langalers. Let’s go Rangers. Rangers. First pitch. Not close. [Music] That clips the inside corner for a strike. [Music] in the top half of inning number seven. Spoils a two strike pitch and he’ll see another. Hey, you got this. That one 95 to finish him off. Nothing doing there for the A’s and they’re on the wrong end of a 74 score. Now pitching for we’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. Jacob Lopez and he’s had a struggle so far this year. As you can see the inflated erra looking to bring that down a little bit right here. Now it’s receiver Rangers this kind of lead. He can swing freely, try to hit the ball out of the park, do what he loves to do. And the first pitch misses for ball one. He swings and fouls one off. Let’s go. [Music] Gets a piece and stays alive. ball. Two balls, two strike. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. [Music] And it remains two and two. Come on, Rangers. Bows it back with two strikes. Spoils that one and it remains two and two. [Music] Fouled off and they’ll do it again and it’s filled up. He should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with the three-hole hitter coming up if he’s walked. [Music] That one misses. So a lead off walk. Well, that’s a nice job of grinding out that at bat. Saw a lot of pitches and ends up on the walk. Very gritty. So a man aboard. Next up for Texas, Marcus Simeon. Squanging a miss. There’s the change up. activity in the bullpen. Shawn Nukem getting loose out there. Swing and a miss as he was late. Oh, two and ball one. [Applause] Fouls it off. Still one and two. Let’s go. just off the inside edge. And that’s awfully close. I don’t know how you take that. He’s seeing the ball out of the pitcher’s hand really well right now. Got him. Outside pitch got the better of him that time. Adoleis Garcia stepping in for the Rangers. [Applause] Garcia. And that one upstairs. Ball one. No strike. And it’s even up. One and one. The one-1 is fouled off. Strike three and that’s two in a row. Toughest pitch to hit. Fast ball on the outer black. Man, sometimes you just got to tip your cap. Now it’s the DH. Evan Carter. Can’t forget the two-run shot he launched out of here in the fifth. Yeah, one of the biggest swings of the game, Berg, as he looks to make even more of an impact in this at bat right here. First pitch doesn’t find a zone. One and0. Base hit center field. Just kind of slice that one into center. Now batting left fieldielder. So digging in Wyatt Langford [Applause] swing and a miss and one one straight and he hits a ground ball right side. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. So, it’s no runs on a hit, no errors, and two are left. We look ahead to inning number eight. It’s the Rangers 7 and the Athletics four. Leading off for the A’s, the designated hitter, Miguel and Duhar. There’s the swing in a miss. Got to keep things airtight defensively right here. On your toes, ready to make a play. If you can get this to the ninth with a three-run lead, it should be a W. [Music] swings and hits one in the air out towards right field. Garcia makes the grab. One away. Now batt the third baseman, Max. Next up for the A’s, Maxy 0 for three with two ground outs and a strike out. All right, Rangers. Ball one, no strikes. Base is empty, one away, and we’re in the top of the eighth. Next offering is fouled back. [Music] So, a foul ball makes it one and two. stays alive. One down. Base is empty. Swang at a highf fly ball. Well struck that one. Carrying tattooed and gone. And they inch closer. It’s 75. That home run narrows the gap between these two. This one isn’t over yet. Boo. I wasn’t sure he hit that one as hard as he needed to to get it out of here, but it had just enough behind it for the homer. What an attempt at the wall, though. He really gave a terrific effort to try and bring that one back. manager out of the dugout and he’s going to make a change. Jacob Webb gives way two-run ball game as he heads for the dugout. And we’ll be back with a new pitcher. Now pitching gets handed the rock out of the pen. These are the spots relievers who really make a name for themselves. Late and close. There’s not much margin for error, but at the same time, there’s a reason they’re put in these situations. So, one out, nobody on. And here is Luis Urias. [Applause] That clips the corner. Lefty continues to work, but the closer getting loose in the bullpen [Applause] in the air left field. Langford moving under it. Hauls it in. Two away. [Applause] Up next for the A’s, the catch. Two out. Space is empty. And now the catcher comes up to hit. Austin wins. Three for threes. Double twice and single. [Applause] That’s too low. Ball one. Yeah, there’s the strike. [Applause] [Applause] [Music] the one two. Next offering misses down and away. [Applause] And a sweeper misses for a ball. Denzel Clark waiting in the on deck circle. If they can get him up, he’d represent the tying run. So, critical pitch right here. [Applause] [Applause] Check swing and a 3-2. Appeal down to first and he went around. Not an easy call there, but that puts an end to the inning. One hit in the inning, a solo homer. Home half of inning number eight. Straight ahead, it’s the Rangers seven and the A’s five. Now pitching for the Now, new pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth, Sha Nukem. Just trying to keep this one close here. And this is where a bullpen can give their players a chance to fight back into the game. leading offers the first base. Well, on paper, it’s favorable to have a fairly quick inning here with two of the three hitters he’s set to face batting from the left side. Same side he throws from and first off Ring is fouled off. No, that’s low. Swing and a miss. Nice change up, man. He really sells the change up with that arm action. [Music] And now the count is even. Two balls, two strike. swing and a miss. He swung over top of the curveball. Well, classic pitch sequencing there to change eye levels for the punch out. That fast ball on the pitch before him was up. It was very competitive and that gets you thinking that he might try to climb the ladder, but then the curveball out of that same tunnel just falls off the table and you can’t make contact. Higashi in now takes ball one off the plate. Ball two. [Applause] That one fouled off. Come on, Rangers. Swing and a miss. It’s two and two. Two and two. missed inside with the curb. That’s a walk. Went with another change up but missed the spot. One gone runner at first. Alejandro Ozuni stepping in for the Rangers. Oh, shoot. He was late there. Strike one. Well, he threw that fast right by him. Gives him a little bit of confidence, but in the back of your mind, you got to think, is he trying to set me up for later in this at bat? And a breaking ball drops in for a strike. [Music] on the ground. Two ball one at second over to first. Safe. Here’s the third base. Josh Smith to first and he breaks for second. To second and he’s out. And that’s the third out. We’re back. And on the mound is the closer Luke Jackson. And compared to a lot of other relievers, strikeouts have not been a big weapon for him this year. So the defense should be active. Stepping in, Denzel Clark. The center fielder number one, Denzel Clark. Called strike right there. Jackson, the 6’2 righty, 33 years old. He joined the team as a free agent. started after the 01 pitch and now a check down to first and he held up. The one-1 is fouled off. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Well, the first batter, it’s always a big one for the closer. I mean, you get that punch out, you get settled in, you feel like you’re in command out there on the mound from the jump, and kind of prevents any doubt from creeping into your mind or the fielders that are playing behind you that, you know, you’re going to wrap this thing up. Wilson, the next to hit, takes outside. And that drops in for a strike. The 1-1 is fouled off. Fights that one away. Still one and two. It’s so hard to slow yourself down when you see that juicy breaking ball. But the most success happens when you try to take that right back up the middle approach. Foul ball. Another two- two upcoming. One down. Base is empty. Now it’s three and two. Swang and a ball lifted in the air. A dive and he can’t haul it in. Now he’ll turn for second. Around second now as they still don’t have it. And his third hit of the game is a triple. Showed a lot of fight with two strikes in that AB. Really important at bat coming up now. Big at bat for Brent Rooker now. 0 for four with three ground outs and a strikeout in the air right field. Pretty well struck. That one carrying it. Bangs off the wall. In comes the run from third and it’s a 76 game. Big time at bat right there. Comes through and they’re back within a run. First pitch fast ball in a great spot to do some damage and he squared it up nicely. Now that sets up a huge atbat in this ball game. And now the first baseman, Nick Curts. One and0 pitch out, but no action. Well, comfortable or not, these are the situations closers they seem to live for. I mean, you get into some hot water, a jam, tough spot, whatever you want to call it, but this is where they earn their keep. He swings and hits a fly ball center field. Can’t get there. Should be extra bases. Bro comes into second. Not going to get him. He’s in there. always feels amazing getting a job done when the team needs you to come through. It’s just bigger than your own individual stats. These days, most outfielders play pretty deep and I’m not sure if that was a factor there or not, but off the bat, you’re thinking it’s going to be a pop out and it just kind of nestled into that spot where no one was able to get to him. Now, a huge bat in this game coming up. And the Rangers manager making his way towards the mound now as he will make the move. Luke Jackson won’t go any further tonight. And it’s a tie ball game as he heads for the dugout. Back with a new arm after a quick break. Now pitching forward. Taking over on the mound for the Rangers. Caleb Bosley. Definitely a guy that pounds the strike zone. Makes hitters earn their way on base and rarely gets in trouble because of free passes. So the go-ahead run in scoring position. And now a chance for Shay Langalers. swing and a highf fly ball out towards right center field and there are two outs up next for the A’s the designated hitter Miguel and Duhar now the A’s designated hitter Miguel and Duhar he’s already homered here in this one. First pitch and that’s in for a strike. Some activity in the bullpen for Texas. Chris Martin, the veteran right-hander, appears to be loosening up. Next pitch is outside. Fly ball center field ozuna. And that’s the third out. So a ninth inning comeback here and this game has been flipped on its head and we are tied 77. Bottom nine now the third baseman Josh Smith. You know this is kind of a tough matchup as a left-handed hitter facing a left-handed pitcher. And what you tell yourself is I want to stay square to the plate. Try to hit the ball over the shorts stop’s head. And that is out of play. Here comes the 01. Fast ball in the inside corner for a strike. The Athletics have some bullpen action. Justin Sterner appears to be getting ready and I’m sure he’s feeling some nerves. This would be his major league debut. Miller also getting ready. Hit on the ground to the right side and it goes just foul. Liner snagged at first. That at bat is a positive sign even though it probably doesn’t feel like it. He hit the ball hard but it doesn’t always work out in your favor. Sometimes a defender is there to make a play. Seager stands in now infield shifted to the pull side. The shorts stop takes the ball all tied up. We’re in the last half of the ninth inning. Sharp grounder. That’s through for a base hit. There you go. Winning run is a board with one down. Got the top of the ball a little bit, but not much. That was hit pretty hard through the infield. So, I think he’ll be happy with that swing. definitely generated some good bat speed. Looks like we’ve got a substitution at first. The pinch runner for the Rangers, Ezekiel Duran. Ezekiel here in the bottom of the ninth, one out, Marcus Simeon, the next to hit and the first pitch misses for ball one. If you’re a base runner, you got to stay dialed in here. Look for anything in the dirt. Try your best to get into scoring position. Next pitch misses inside and that’s ball two. Chris with that distraction and a speedy guy at first, he’s in a favorable hitter’s count. Well, if nothing else, I mean, this is a great spot for a hitter to be in and no one can get there. Ball back in in a hurry and the winning run now at second with only one away. Two consecutive base hits for these guys here. Everything was on time and fluid in that swing. got a pitch he could get the barrel on and lined it into center for the knock. Those always feel good. Winning run in scoring position now. So a clutch AB could end this one. Instep Sadi Garcia, also known as Elbombi. Winning run stands at second. That’s down and in. where to lay off that pitch down. Hitter’s got some good opposite field power. What I like about something being hit to the right side into the outfield is that the base runner at second has a very good read and can determine whether or not he can score on that base hit. Yeah, the two-1 hammered but foul. Ground ball right side. Sneaks through. Base hit. They’re waving around Durant. The winning run crosses the plate and the Rangers walk it off. 8-7. Well, you come into the ninth inning. It’s a tie ball game. No one really wants to play extras. So, everyone’s looking at how we can get this game over with in regulation. Well, they got the run they needed. Put one up and they put one in the win column. and a final 8-7 for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shami. We’ll see you soon. What the move?
