This UDFA SHOCKED Everyone At Washington Commanders Training Camp

Yo, what is up guys? It’s Pedro here and in today’s video I want to talk about a secondyear player that is surprising a lot of people along with a UDFA that is absolutely balling out. If you guys are new, make sure to subscribe. Do all that good stuff. It’s free. Takes 1 second. So, let’s talk about first Tyler Owens. secondyear player, also a UDFA uh from last year who was able to make the 53man roster, you know, first uh you know, first 53, which that is very hard to do. Usually, it’s one or less UDFA. So, he had a good or you know, decent day, but that’s not even the surprising part. The surprising part is that he was with the ones. And for a guy that you know, I’ll get into his stats here in a second. Let me uh go ahead and look at Tyler Owens because Tyler Owens, you know, was a special teams guy last year for the Commanders. He was a special teams guy. That’s that’s what he was. You know, he did get in, you know, he did make some big-time tackles for the Commanders on special teams, but and he made 11 11 tackles, but let’s see, you know, how many snaps he played defensively. And he did. And one thing to keep Yeah, he played zero snaps defensively. So for him to get run with the ones on day one of training camp that is not insignificant. Does it mean he is going to be a starter or you know be the third you know safety in that room? No it doesn’t mean that. But you know it probably means they’re trying him out there. And if they’re trying him out with the ones, they at least see some potential there for him to, you know, be a starting safety or be the third safety behind Quan Martin and Will Harris. And then it would be Tyler Owens. So, uh, you know, definitely something that I think is somewhat of a deal. And, you know, Tyler Owens super athletic and, uh, for, you know, 11 tackles, uh, in 12 games on special teams, like that’s impressive. And you know, he he’s a bigger guy. Uh 216 lb. What is Yeah, 6’2 pounds and his vertical leap 41 in which is insane. I mean, that’s crazy. That’s crazy. He did get beat by Debo Samuel today. But what I will say, and this clip is a dime from Jaden Daniels to Debo Samuel. The fact that he’s on voice crack right there. The fact that he’s on, you know, Debo Samuel to begin with shows how, you know, much they believe in him because they have very, very capable corners on this team. I mean, let’s just talk about it. You have Marshon Latimore, Mike Sanderstill, you have Trey Amos, who, you know, hope we hope is a really good corner in this league. You know, Jonathan Jones, Noah Igbon, like those are like those are good players. And especially depthwise, I mean, Noah Ibanogy and Jonathan Jones are great pieces to have as depth. So, the fact that, you know, they had Tyler Owens on, you know, Debo shows that, you know, they’re they believe in him at least to a certain extent and see the potential that he has. So, here’s the clip. Sorry, I’m talking too much. I know. Uh, so Debo beats him, but you know, it’s not terrible coverage. I mean, you look at it and, you know, he’s he’s there. Is he exactly where he needs to be? No. But, you know, it isn’t terrible coverage whatsoever. It isn’t terrible coverage, you know, at all. You know, could have been better, of course. You can always be better, but this was not bad coverage by him. But I know some people are going to see it and be like or see just like the tweets and stuff and be like, “Oh, you know, he got cooked. Tyler Owens got cooked. He sucks. But, you know, yeah, he got beat, but it was just a, you know, it was good defense, much better or not not much better, it was good defense, just better offense by both Jaden Daniels and Debo Samuels. So, uh, that’s kind of my thoughts on Tyler Owens. And, uh, I’ll, you know, I’ll give a little bit more before we get into Jakory Brooks, but, uh, Tyler Owens, he, you know, right now you have Will Harris and Quan Martin. That’s likely your starting duo with Quan Martin playing, you know, free safety and Will Harris playing strong safety is my guess, but you know, they can always, you know, switch around. They can always switch around, but that is my guess with the current situation here. Uh, Will Harris is a, you know, big hitter for sure. Has played some, you know, free safety, but, you know, for two years, but, you know, strong safety for two years as well. uh cornerback a little bit as well. So, he’s played all over, but you know, he’s a big hitter. They can play him at strong safety and, you know, then you got Quan Martin at free safety and, you know, that’s how, you know, they would have the, you know, rotation and then Tyler Owens as a third guy. Do they, you know, if they want a Buffalo nickel or if Mikey Sanders still needs a break or something like that or, you know, you know, someone gets hurt, they can rotate him around and it’s just good depth to have. Who knows if he really really balls out. If he really balls out, maybe you have him as your strong safety over, you know, Will Harris. You know, he he can play probably both safety positions. But, you know, that free or that strong safety position is a little bit more open and you could possibly have Tyler Owens there if he really balls out this summer. You know, he it looks like he has if he’s getting reps with the ones. Uh but let’s continue to see it, you know, these next weeks or so. And you know, maybe tomorrow he’s not even with the ones, maybe he’s with the threes, but uh just, you know, something I want to talk about. And I am didn’t mention this before recording this video, uh the, you know, after the first day of training camp and I’ll post it tomorrow because, you know, going to work so want to have a video out there. Uh but yeah, that’s the Tyler Owens talk. Now, let’s get into Jakory Brooks, who probably was the star of the day. So was getting run with the ones which you know is not insignificant but also makes sense with Terry being out is one thing and then they just don’t have like a lot a lot of depth and oh also Noah Brown I think was doing a little bit of a ramp up so I don’t think he fully practiced. I don’t think he got you know work with you know the 11 you know doing the 11v1s and the 7v7s. Maybe he did, but uh you know that’s definitely you know if Noah Brown is out and then Terry’s out that’s two of your top three targets being out and you know you have to find some other targets and you know Luke McAffrey, Jaylen Lane, Debo obviously and then you then after that you start going down the list. KJ Osbborne, Jaci Brooks, there’s, you know, Jacobe Jones from UCF. Like, you have some other options there to put out there. And it looks like JaKoRy Brooks, he was the one who stepped up today out of all the receivers, him and Debo Samuels. So, uh, he got Latimore on on the grass. Uh, I don’t know if Latimore just slipped or he slipped, but he slipped because of JaKoRy Brooks. Uh, but JKR Brooks cooked and got a touchdown there. And then, you know, Zack Selby said that uh he had two touchdowns during seven on seven, one from Daniels and another from Mariota. So, working with the ones, working with the twos. Uh and you know, that makes sense. You know, trying to find their guy uh who was going to step up at that, you know, you know, one of those receiver positions with, you know, even if Terry comes back, you’re still going to want some other receivers in that room and you’re going to just throw up shots. So, Cory Brooks, maybe it’s him. Maybe it’s Luke McAffrey, Jaylen Lane, KJ Osborne, Jacobe Jones. There’s probably one other UDFA. I’m forgetting right now, but uh you just want to see who has it and who has a chance to contribute on game days, who can, you know, block, who can play special teams. So, Jory Brooks had really good production in college, especially at Louisville this past year. I believe he had 1k yards. So, I think it was a good pickup. Obviously, you know, now it looks even better with, you know, his play in training camp. My guess at this point, if I had to bet on it, it’s so early and maybe I’m, you know, got recency bias, but I would guess he makes a team. And definitely out of all the, you know, undrafted free agents, he has the best chance to make the team. Probably put at like 55 60%. But considering, you know, the receiver situation with the Commanders right now after Terry Debo and Noah Brown, like it’s not super pretty. So, he has a chance to make the team. Like, you know, Jaylen Lane and Luke McAffrey are pretty safe because of their draft status. So, that gives you five. So, they’ll probably keep six, maybe seven, but like usually it’s six, especially with the receiving core like this one. So Jory Brooks is fighting for one of those last spots and I don’t know if they want to give it to him just because you got those three receivers who you know Terry Debo and Noah Brown but then after that you don’t have any veterans if you kept Jakoy Brooks as the sixth receiver. So they might want to keep a KJ Osborne or Chris Moore who is a little bit of a veteran. Forgot to mention him. And uh they also signed Taye Martin I believe. Big play Tay. That’s what t uh that’s what um Ed was talking about on his channel. Uh great videos by Ed, of course, as usual. But they have receiver options, but you know, Jaka Brooks has got to be at the top of the list of the next guys in terms of the tier list of the receivers. And I’m excited to see what he continues to do and some of these other guys, too. I want to start hearing, you know, Luke McCaffry’s name, Jaylen Lane’s name, and continue to see these guys ball out. So, thanks for watching. Hope you guys enjoyed. Hail to Commanders. Peace.

  1. AP def has an eye for talent (+ a good scouting department)… there are a few late round picks & UDFAs that are expected to contribute this season: Owens, Yankoff, Ja’Corey Brooks, McKay? (if healthy), Hartman
..then late round picks like Magee, Dom-Hampton, JJB, Medrano & Bill

Also a few UDFAs at LB, S, CB.. who will likely make the PS, with the chance to become depth pieces next season!

Then there is Pollard (DT), Barber (DT), TJ Maguranyanga (DE)

  2. Good coverage because of his speed , however his position is skilled and he missed the mark on when to look for the ball on the break , which is why Deebo caught the pass , not JD or DS was the reason even though it was a good throw and catch , this would have happen with a bad set of Qb and Wr set , this was technique folks !!! But he is a project that I see worthy if he can be taught the game and position skills that emerge the natural body talent he has !!!!
