🔴LIVE 🔴Oakland Athletics VS Houston Astros / June 24/ Envivo/MLB the show 25

First pitch coming your way next. Just about set to go now. And our pitcher tonight, Brandon Walter. And Singi, he likes pitching at home. Well, truly for him, there is no place like home. He’s been so dominant here. And as a teammate, you expect him when pitching at home this year to go out and dominate just as he has. The fans expect it. And I think everyone around here knows that he’s a good pitcher. Even though we don’t see the same splits on the road, we’re going to start to see that translate as well. And now the short stop, Jacob Wilson. And that is downstairs. And this one is off and running. Two balls, no strikes to count. Was good pitch there. Really had some run and finished little up and in just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it. He had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. The count two and one. That one ripped. And that should be extra bases around first. Heading for two. And he’s got a leadoff double. Just so sound in his mechanics. Hits against a firm front side and the hands just continue to carry through the middle of the field. So the go-ahead run in scoring position. Brent Rooker up next for the A’s. And that’s downstairs. And that’s ball one. Wilson leads off second with nobody out. Late swing fouled all. Houston. Here’s a one-1. That one to first. Walker. A flip to the pitcher covering. One out in the top of the first. Batting third base number. And time now to check out the A’s lineup. And Chris, this group has been struggling to put up runs lately. Well, they haven’t been on base a ton. And even when they are, they haven’t been hitting very well with runners on base. So, they need a player or two to really step up, have some quality at bats, hit according to the situation, and sort of break out of this. I think if they do, the rest of this lineup will follow. Nick Curts stands in here, leaves that one off the inside. right side down the line and it’s foul. No score here, but Aeller at third with one down. fouls that off to the left and will do it again. I think ultimately you want to tie him up, get the ball in on the plate so that he can’t get the barrel to it and hit it to the outfield. And a swing and a miss. Huge strike out there. Certainly a strikeout situation right there. The infield playing back and this pitcher has to step up and get the swing and miss. Really nice job of attacking the hitter at the plate. Pretty big two out at bat coming up now. And now a chance for Shay Langalers. He’s been on fire at the dish lately. Can make it a fivegame hitting streak with a knock in this one. That’s a strike and it’s 0 and one. Rudder at third. Two away. One and one. Just missed. That one is absolutely belted. And it’s a one hopper off the wall. Should be extra bases. Pulls into second. That’s an RBI double. Well, that’s a big swing of the bat. Driving in the run with the two bagger. Solid swing from start to end. On time with everything. Really good balance. Nice extension. And he met it out front for the line drive knock. So runner at second, two down. Here’s Miguel and Duhar. First offering and it just misses. and that is out of play. The 1-1 is fouled off. Well, you put good velocity in the head of the hitter. He’s got to get it ready early and then change speeds. Keep him off balance. That’s the goal. Line drive and that’s a base hit to right coming home. The throw in. Safe. In comes the run from second. It’s two nothing. Love how he let that ball travel. Trusted his hands. Nice job of going the other way. And here’s the rookie center fielder. There’s the strike up high. One and one. swings through that one for strike two. line drive base hit and that’ll put runners at the corners with two away. Batting seventh, third base, Gio Orchella. So, two outs with runners on the corners. Here’s Gio Ora. There’s the strike. That one finds the corner and the count is 0 and two. Very well executed change up right there. If he can command the fast ball consistently, that’s going to be an important pitch in terms of him turning this outing around. Lefty out of the stretch. Runners at first and third. Gets a piece and it stays 0 and two. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. fights that one away and the count remains 0 and two. Pretty good pitch there to take a rip at. He wants to get his arms extended. He likes the ball away from him a little bit, just not able to square it up. And a popup on the left side of the infield. Wickham settles under it, nabs it, and that is that. But two runs for him and they jump ahead. Bottom half of inning number one coming up. It’s the A’s two. The Astros coming to bat back here in Houston getting the nod on the mound. JP Sears. Well, no doubt about it. He’s going to have to put together some consistently good performances in order to bring that ERA down. Now, he’s got good stuff. He’s just got to be able to have confidence, trust it, and really go after hitters, not nibble, trust that his stuff can have late life in miss barrels of bats. Cam Smith leading things off and takes the strike. Well, after scoring runs, this is where you’re looking for that shutdown inning. Get that hot team back in there to swing the bats. Kicks and fires. swings here and drives one well left field way back and you can’t forget it. He goes deep in his first at bat off the bench and they’re on the board. It’s 2-1. He absolutely crushed that one. No doubt about that one, Boo. We knew it wasn’t coming back. For a pitcher, the odds are in your favor if you keep that breaking ball down. That time he got punished for it. Hitter just did a really good job of staying within himself and getting the barrel to the baseball. Vic Keratini at the plate. He’s done a great job making contact recently, hitting better than 350 this month. First pitch just misses. Foul ball there with the big bats coming up and a home run already surrendered. He’s really going to have to execute against these next couple of batters. Swang at a high-fly ball. Well struck. That’s going back. Back some more. Gone. It finds the Crawford boxes. A home run. They do it again. Backto back homers. His 11th of the year. And this game is tied. It’s 2-2. That’s a great way to fire up this crowd. They’re feeling it now. Back-to-back homers. Always a special feeling at the ballpark, especially if it’s your team that does it. And those guys get to slap hands at home plate. This is the kind of thing that can really fire up a ball club. So, it’s all tied up thanks to the home run. Here’s the veteran first baseman, Christian Walker. And that’s off the inside edge. And that’s ball one. Singi, maybe some nerves getting the best of him in the first. Well, it’s hard to know exactly if it’s nerves or not, but he just doesn’t have it right now. Those hitters on the other side, they’re going to say it’s nerves and use that as a competitive edge to try to jump on him even more. And a foul ball. The 1-1 is fouled off. Got him. And that’s the first out. Nice recovery after giving up the homer. Oh, just a beautiful fast ball on the inside corner for that backwards K right there. I think the hitter saw it all the way coming from that opposite arm angle. So, I got to think he was looking away and just got locked up by the hard stuff boring in on his hands. The batter now, Yiner Diaz. Let’s go. First pitch misses. Wait for your pitch. And a fast ball in there for a strike at 91. Fast ball for a strike. Out towards right center. That’s well struck. And this one looks like trouble. Makes the turn and heads for second. And that’s a double. Oh, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. Stepping in, Bryce Matthews. Really bringing some thump at the plate lately. Three homers already in this series. Yeah, that’s fouled off. man at second. Pitch misses inside and the count one and two. Got him swinging. Definitely made him chase a little bit out of his own right there. I don’t think that’s a strike if he takes it. Pretty textbook pitching. Get ahead in the count. Get the guy in the box on his heels and then force him to chase your pitch where he doesn’t have much of a chance to do any damage. Here’s Mauricio Dubon. He’s given up a couple of runs, but the pitch count really not as high as you would think. Might be able to get through this one under 25 pitches. Two outs and one in scoring position and fouled off. He’s dealing with a great two- strike hitter right here. The strikeout is not automatic. The O2 spoils the two strike pitch and he’ll see another foul ball. It stays nothing and two. Swinging a drive deep right field. Hits the fence. throws to second. He’s in safely at second. A run comes in on the play. Still able to come through behind in the count right there. Just missed out on a home run right there, but he certainly hit it hard enough. Just didn’t have the right launch angle to carry it over the wall, but still an excellent swing of the bat. And next to hit for Houston, Cooper Hmel. Fouled off. He was late. tried to check his swing there. Now an appeal to first. No swing. Eric Summerskill with the call. Man on second. Two down. And that drops in for a strike. Foul ball. Still a one and two count. And that one is inside. Runner at second. Two down. spoils that one and it remains two and two and a foul ball. He stays alive. Goes down looking. But two round tripers in this inning. The long ball was working. It’s now a 32 ball game. Major League Baseball is on the show. Second inning set to go. And now here’s the A’s catcher. Austin Wins. Wins in the eighth spot in today’s lineup. And they traded for him earlier this year. Walter back to work. That one fouled off. Let’s go Astros. Come on Astros. Swings through that one. I think he was sitting off speed there. Carl Dixon doing the umpiring behind the plate. And Boo, I’m not sure if it’s because he sort of sets up higher than most, but one thing to be aware of with Dixon is the high strike. Not usually a big deal because most players are swinging at pitches up there. But we may see some surprise looks from hitters from time to time because that’s just so unusual. Back against the wall with two strikes, but found a way. He got that front foot down and pitch recognition was on point. Pretty impressive for an 02 count. Here’s Luis Oas. A change up missing. And that is ball one. Wins on at first. Nobody out. That one sizzling on its way through to the outfield. Throw back in quickly. First and second now with nobody out. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. Wasn’t able to elevate that one, but he sure hit it hard enough to get through the infield. There’s not a whole lot of time for the defenders to react and try to make a play when it’s ripped like that. First and second, no outs. Wilson the next to hit. Lent off this game with a double. This one belted deep left field on its way. Gone. And now they’re out in front. It’s 53. He only needed one swing to square it up. Not wasting any time in that at bat. Boo. Aggressive. And it paid off. When you’re working with this kind of velocity, so critical that you move the ball around, work quickly, and make sure that you keep that hitter off balance. Clearly not fooled by the location or the velocity. He was all over that fast ball. Next up for the A’s, Brent Rooker. That one not close and it’s one and0. Can be tough to bounce back after a big home run, but nobody on, nobody out. You just have to treat it as a fresh inning. Nobody out with three runs in already this frame here in the top of the second. Right through there for a strike. I got one ball, one strike. And that drops in for a strike. He should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with three hole hitter coming up if he’s walked on the ground right side lays out but he can’t squeeze it. The throw won’t get there in time and they catch a break as they get a base runner at first. Man at first, nobody out. Nick Curts will hit next. 0 for one. He struck out swinging last time. Bounding ball here. Rolls foul. Nobody out. Runner at first. Lifted in the air out to left. He’s there. He’s got it. One down. Now batting designated hitter Sheay Langelers. Now the A’s designated hitter Sheay Langelers doubled his first time up. And that’s him for a strike. Well, he had a pretty good look at that pitch and not sure exactly what tied him up there. Couldn’t pull the trigger and perhaps the best pitch he’ll see in this at bat to hit. Still in the second already at 44 pitches. So, some concern there. Ball one there. Well, the good thing so far is that he hasn’t issued any free passes. Unfortunately, they’re making pretty good contact. So, not getting the swings and misses and making that defense work behind him. The 1-1 is cut on and missed to the pitch upstairs. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. Here’s a one-two that one. Miss swings through it and that’s a strike out. He had him out in front which isn’t easy to do against a hitter like this known for using the entire field. just couldn’t sit back long enough on that one. Here’s the left fielder, Miguel Anduhar. RBI single his last time up. And that’s in for a strike. Go and one. When you’re struggling out there on the mound, hitters know that there’ll be plenty of opportunities within the at bat to try to get something to hit hard. There’s a high chopper. It sends it across the first. That’s a third out. Three-run shot for the A’s. It’s now a 53 ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Bottom of the second and stepping in for the Astros, Chaz McCormick. McCormick. And a first offering a fast ball for a strike. And that drops in for a strike. And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Ow. And two now way inside. Fouls it off. Still one and two. Hard hit left side. Slings it across. One up, one down. Batting night, third base, Shane Wick. And the batter now, Shay Wickham. Fast ball for a strike. popped up. UAS, you’re kidding me. He makes the catch and there’s two down. Now batting number 11. So the lineup flips over and the batter will be the shortstop Cam Smith. He’s already homered here in this one. backed off the plate that time. And there’s a foul ball. Two down. Nobody on fights that one away. Still one and two. Good job to fight that one off. swings through that one. It’s a strike out. Here’s a new pitcher from the pen, Hunter Brown. Well, he’s a big time strikeout guy out there this season, averaging more than one per inning. Hunter Brown. And now the center fielder one for one with a single so far. First pitch doesn’t find the zone and through there for a strike. There’s a swing and a drive. That one back. Get down. down onto the track and he makes the catch. Now batting third base. Giorella steps in. Struggling on the road this season. Better results at home. Here we go. That clips the zone. That’s strike one. Really good cutter that he’s able to front door and back door. That pitch is devastating. Just missed. One ball, one strike. Next one is off the plate and a count. Two on one. Pop foul out of play off to the right. Stays alive. One out. Base is empty. Got him. Swinging for the strikeout. Tied him up on a fast ball inside. Here’s the catcher to hit. Austin wins. Singleton scored his first time. Astros. Astros. And that’s in there for strike one. And there’s a strike on the outside corner. Well, he didn’t like those first two pitches. is now in an 02 hole. He’s going to have to battle. Hope he gets a mistake. Swing and a miss. And he chases that one in the dirt. That completes the strike out and that’ll do it. So they make short work of him there. We move on to the bottom of inning number three. It’s the A’s five and the Astros three. Back here at Dykin Park as we go to the last of the third. And now Victor Keratini. Worm burner into the outfield for a knock. Now batting first and now it’s Christian Walker. One of the rare guys at first base that you almost think defense first. He is that good with the glove. You’re talking about top of the list elite defensive first baseman. First baseman are involved in just about every single play. So when you have somebody so solid over there, uh, you can breathe a little easier. And that one upstairs, ball one. Now these guys definitely looking for a big swing of the bat right here. Try to close that gap. But, you know, at the very least, if you could find a way to manufacture that run from first, it feels like it’s really important to getting back into this ball game. Keratini gets his lead at first with nobody out. In today’s game, not that many fast ball counts, but hitters still in the back of their minds. They’re looking for one. Two change up call right there. Excellent pitch selection to go with fought off foul. Next offering misses down and away on this count. Runner not known for his speed, but I think you got to put him in motion. Try to avoid a double play here. Boo. Yer Diaz in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. And a swing and a miss. Down on strikes. He picks up his fifth strike out on the hill. Thought it was a pretty good pitch. Top of the strike zone. We’re seeing more fast balls in that location. And hitters, especially with two strikes, have to be ready to pull the trigger. At the plate is the Astros catcher, Yiner Diaz. One for one with a double and a run scored. Gets the call. Strike one. and misses inside. Man at first, one away. Tapped at the plate, but it’s a foul ball. Good eye right there. Definitely got the hitter conscious of the pitch inside. Really think the outer half is open. Gets a piece and stays alive. The 2-2 now. A little bit low. Way to lay off that pitch down. Bryce Matthews in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. 3-2. That’s foul off to the right side. Keeps the AB going. He’s mixing his pitches really well late on that fast ball after seeing the change up. See if he can elevate one. Strike three and that’s two in to a row. Oh, interesting. He’s looking very comfortable out of the stretch after giving up the leadoff single. Back-to-back strikeouts. So, they haven’t been able to move that runner up, get him into scoring position and try to have a better chance of scoring. I tell you, good job so far on the mound. He just needs one more out. Next to hit, Bryce Matthews. First pitch, and he just misses. Houston fast ball for a strike. Well, we call that keyholeing. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good, if he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count. The one-1 is fouled off. started to go after it. Now a look down to first and he went around. Not an easy call there, but that puts an end to the inning. No runs, one hit, no errors, and a man left. Three innings complete. It’s the A’s five. Yeah, the Astros three. And welcome back to the ballpark as we go to the top of the fourth. Here’s the second baseman, Luis Orias. How about this one, Boo? In 2023, Arias hit grand slams for Boston in back-to back plate appearances. They happened on different days, but he still became the first Red Sox player to do it since Jimmy Fox in 1940. And that’s a fair ball. Man, those are the types of hits where you don’t feel any vibration in your hands whatsoever. Such a good feeling. Got a fast ball middle of the plate. Jumped all over it. Absolutely smoked that ball. Back to the top of the lineup. And here is Jacob Wilson. He’s already homerred in this game. Runner on the move. Swing and a miss. Throw to second. Ow. Well, this is a real momentum killer after the leadoff single. Tried to steal second base on the first pitch. Defense was all over it. Nicely done from behind the plate with the catch and throw. Then a quick tag before he reaches the base. Base is empty, one away. Top half of inning number four. In the air, pretty deep out to center field. McCormack sizing this one up. They got it for out number two. So up next, Brent Rooker, one for two, taken high in the draft. He’s had that top prospect label over him since he put on a professional uniform, but at some point that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level. That one finds the zone and that is strike one. in there at the knees for a strike. This guy’s pounding the zone. Hitters don’t have time to think in between pitches. Swinging a miss. That one in the dirt. Diaz down to first with it in time. The two-3 strikeout ends the inning. No runs, one hit, no errors, and no one left to the bottom of inning number four. Now it’s the A’s five. Yeah, the Astros three. Back here in Houston now it’s the DH Mauricio Dubon and that finds the mark on the outside corner. It’s 0 and one. Action in the pen down there. Number 49 getting ready to go. Bowden getting cranked up as well. Liner snagged at first. It’s never fun going back to the dugout after hitting a line drive that finds a glove, but you will get some high fives. You know, when you make great contact, you feel like you’ve done everything right. But in this game of baseball, not everything is in your control. Cooper Hmel up next for the Astros. Struck out looking his first time. And there’s the strike. Oh, I think the key I mean if he can get through one more inning, anything after that, a hitter or two is bonus, but they should be lined up good enough to get to the finish line. Swinging a liner foul off to the right. One down, base is empty. Got him. Strike out number eight. Well, it’s great execution to get that fast ball inside. If you’re going to miss, you want to miss off the plate. put perfectly located. He threw it with conviction. You absolutely do not want to leave it out over the plate. So, next up for Houston, Chaz McCormack. He’s over for one and a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. This is important. If he can go one, two, three here will be a very positive sign for him and for his team. Foul ball. Going to count one and two. I don’t think he was trying to miss by that much in an 02 count. Just tried to overthrow that pitch. Pitch misses. Two and two. Good spot there, but didn’t get the strike at the knees and doesn’t seem too convinced by the call out there on the mound as he tries to get a better sense of the umpire strike zone. Two out space is empty and down on strikes he goes and it’s a one, two, three inning. Astros are down quietly. They’re still down 5-3. Astros go to the pen and here comes Caleb for well, he’s been excellent against left-handed hitters this year and that’s his first test. This looks like a good move to the pin in terms of the matchup. And now the first baseman, Nick Curts, full for two in this one. Houston in his second season, 33 years old, and he found his way onto the team after being claimed off waiverss. Just missed. Come on. Not close with that one. Two and one way high. That one misses. So a leadoff walk. Pretty easy walk right there. Last pitch wasn’t even much to think about. Shay Langers digs in. Now Langalers having a lot more success on the road this season. First offering and it just misses. Next offering is fouled back. Curts gets his lead at first. Nobody out. And a pop off right side. at foul territory. Walker makes the grab. One away. Up next for the A’s, leftielder Miguel Anduhar. Miguel Anduhar up next for the A’s. He’s kind of an outlier, especially when guys are consciously sacrificing contact to deliver power. Top of the zone for a called strike. Yeah, his swing is so good. It’s in the zone a long time. He gets the barrel to it a lot and that produces more base hits. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. Singy. One of the things that’s interesting is that guys really don’t worry about swing and miss from an offensive standpoint anymore. So, when you see somebody who contacts the ball like this, do you think of that as plus value? Absolutely. If he’s doing damage now, if he’s rolling over and and grounding out, then it’s a different story. But yeah, if he could put the ball in the gaps or over the fence, 100%. Thomas, here’s the center fielder. Yeah. And the domino effect of that is running up pitch counts on pitchers and then either getting them to a place of fatigue or getting into the bullpen perhaps before you get to those higher leverage arms at the back end. Let’s go Astros. And there’s a strike. Good heater at 98. One of the things that Jim Leland used to say when I was broadcasting with the Marlins, the longer a plate appearance goes for a batter, the more likely it is that something good will happen for the hitter. Next offering is in for a strike. swings and miss has struck him out. The A’s strand one and it remains 53. Back now to start the bottom of the fifth and taking over on the mound. Number 49. He’s pitching on two days rest. Shay Wickham getting ready to hit 0 for one with a fly out. Yeah. And I figured you would get Kay into this because you had a free dinner at his house the other night. That is true. And fires in a fast ball at 95. And ball one. And one and two. One ball, two strength. had a breaking ball misses outside set down on strikes. Went back to the slur and it was the right choice. And next to hit for Houston, Cam Smith number 11. And he swings and lifts one to deep center field. Back there and gone. Another homer. His second home run of the game. It’s 54. One pitch, one swing, one home run. Yeah, you can say that’s efficiency right there. didn’t need much time in the box to make an impact. Get as many high fives as possible. Man, this guy’s a ball of energy right now and having the game of his life. Victor Keratini up next for the Astros. And ball one to the right fielder. A’s leading by a run. That’s a bullet, but it goes foul. Looking to get the tying run on base that misses and the count two and one. Really been able to slow down the game tonight with his at bats and the biggest one he’s had so far. He doesn’t look anxious at all. swinging a ground ball and that chance handled. Throws to first in time. Well, there’s a lot writing on that at bat right there. Nice job of the pitcher to bear down, make the pitch, get the ground ball. Excellent piece of work. And stepping in for the Astros, Christian Walker, who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. Breaking ball through there for a strike. Man, this guy’s got a great feel for his breaking ball today. Next offering is fouled back. Two outs. That misses. Now one and two. outside. Next offering away upstairs, Yiner Diaz in the Y on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. That’s a good at bat right there. He was down early in that plate appearance. Works the walk. One of the things about that two-out walk, the base runner over at first base is going to have a very aggressive secondary lead. So, a ball down the line or into the gap will produce a two out RBI. And those are the best. That is if you are the offensive side of it. Typically, the outfield defense will play a little bit deeper just to keep the ball in front. Make sure that runner on first doesn’t come all the way around to score and tie this ball game up. Diaz in the box now takes strike one. Well, in this situation, hitter knows that he’s got to find a pitch that he can drive in order to drive in that tying run all the way from first base. So, if he can’t do that, keep the line moving through a walk or just a base hit. But, you got to stay within yourself. Strike two. And a bat like this is almost over as it begins. In this situation, you have no idea what the next pitch is going to be. You just got to hope that you can make contact. 0 and two now. Fights it off. He’ll see another really great change of speeds. He goes off the off speed to the fast ball and the hitter doesn’t know what’s coming next. gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. This one in the dirt and now a man into scoring position. Heads up base running right there. So the tying run at second. That one misses. The countdown two and two. Let’s go. And that’s downed away. Bryce Matthews in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here on the ground right side. Urias in plenty of time to first that ends the inning and they limit the damage but not before they answer back with a solo home run. It’s down to one at 54. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. We’re back and they make a change to start the six. The new pitcher, Nick Hernandez. Just trying to keep this one close here. And this is where a bullpen can give their players a chance to fight back into the game. Third base Oella. Ursello stands in now and watches strike one. Well, that’s really the money spot down and away. If you can locate that consistently, it’s going to be real tough for hitters to square that up. That’s what you love to see relievers do coming out of that bullpen. Comes up empty. That’s strike two. Ground ball up the middle and that squirts through. Had a good start to the inning. Now batting catcher Austin wins. Austin wins the next to hit and that’s through there for a strike and it’s 0 and one. just missed. Here’s a swing and a drive left field and he knew it. His seventh home run of the season. And they tack on to their lead. It’s 74. Already playing with the lead and now they’re celebrating a home run. They’re having a great time out there. Luis Urias up next for the A’s. He’s two for two. Fouled off left side. That one’s in there. No balls, two strikes. And that’s in the dirt. And that skips in the dirt. Swing and a highf fly ball. Pretty well struck right field. Going back way back there and gone. They go back to back. It’s his eighth home run of the year. And they add on. It’s 8-4. That’s their third home run of the game. They’re having a lot of fun at the plate in this one. They’ve got the long ball working for them on autopilot. A good hitter gets pitch recognition early. He saw exactly where that was going to be. The challenge, not get over anxious and come out of your swing. He stayed on it and got all of it. Here comes the skipper and we’re going to see a pitching change in this spot. Nick Hernandez done for the night. And as he heads off, we’ll step aside for a minute. Back with a new pitcher after this break. And from Valdez into the G. And one thing on him, he’s been really good this season at keeping the ball in the park. Not an easy guy to take deep. Back to the top of the order. Jacob Wilson up next for the A’s. First pitch just misses. to the right side. Steps out first for the out. That’s what a good sinker is designed to do. Get a guy to roll over a little bit, hit the ball on the ground, kill some worms while you’re at it. Next up for the A’s, Brent Rooker. One for three. With this kind of lead, he can swing freely, try to hit the ball out of the park, do what he loves to do. And first offering is fouled off. Still only one out here in the inning. Next offering down low and in the dirt. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Brian King the left-hander up and throwing. Gusto the right-hander loosening up as well. That’s too low and it’s two and one. on the ground to short. Smith high throw to first and he can’t reach it. Doesn’t get too far away. So, no one moves up. That’s a dangerous throw for the first baseman and try to handle right there. Exposed him to a potential collision. And we’ve all seen some of the ugly ones over the years on plays similar to that one. So, it’s great. Nothing came out of that other than the throwing error. So, a man at first, Nick Curts now at the plate. Swinging a miss. Strike one. Swinging a miss and it’s 0 and two. Sometimes being lucky is a swing and miss. If he makes contact with that pitch, probably hits into a double play. Waves at the bender for the strike out. Well, I’d say he pretty much had to offer it that one. You don’t want to leave it in the umpire’s hands. Even though it ended up outside the zone, it still was close enough to where it looked like it could drop down right on that corner and get the call. Last thing you want to do is get punched out by the umpire knowing you could have at least fouled the pitch off and kept the bat going. And first off is fouled off. and delivers outside. And that one fouled off and a ball in two strikes. Pulls the string with the change up. Struck him out. But two round tripers in this inning. The long ball was working. It’s now an 84 score. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. Back now for the bottom of the sixth. And there’s a new pitcher on the mound. Elvis Alvarado. He last pitched two days ago. Number 61, Elvis Alvarado. And stepping in for the Astros, Bryce Matthews. baseman. Bryce Matthews. Fly ball pretty well struck right field. Ranging back towards the wall. It has the distance gone. That’s his fourth home run of the series. And they close the gap. It’s 85. That’s their fourth home run of the game. They can’t stop. And they won’t stop hitting home runs in this one. Boo. They’re clearly feeding off of each other at the dish. Welcome to the game. First pitch out of the bullpen, a tough one. And you know, he’s just trying to get one in there for a strike. And on the other side is a hitter. It’s a great time to be aggressive and let it fly. It’s not what they were looking for when they turned to him. But now he’s got to find a way to reset. Now, here’s the Astros designated hitter, Mauricio Dubon. Ball one, no strikes. Just missed. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Mason Miller, a right-hander with big strikeout stuff, is getting it fired up. Bowden, a lefty, warming up as well. And that is out of play. Some real good life going through the zone on that one. Headed towards the corner. And that is a foul ball. Little tardy on that fast ball. He’s going to have to get it going a little quicker. Get that front foot down on the ground out to Short. One away. Bottom of the six. That play won’t be trending on social media later on, but it’s still important to execute it to perfection. This game is a lot harder than it looks, partner. So, next up for Houston, Cooper Hmel. right side hard hit. Kurts takes it to the bag and now the Astros are down to their final out. That’s a huge defensive play in the late stages of the game. It might not be the most challenging we’ve seen today, but it needed to be made. That’s helping your team. Manager out of the dugout now and he will make a move to dip into the A’s bullpen. Elvis Alvarado won’t go any further tonight. It’s a three-run game, and we’ll be back to tell you about the new arm in a minute. Mason Miller comes on trying to close it out. Well, he’s been hit pretty hard at times this season, as you see with the big erra, so this is an important outing for him to get on the right track. Astros down to their last out. And now the center fielder, Chaz McCormack. He’s one of those Dave Mccardi, Mark Carryon, Ricky Henderson types. Throw left, bat right. You make a note of those guys cuz it’s just different. It’s like, man, you’re left-handed, but you hit right-handed. That one in triple digits. Two balls, one strike hit to right and that should do it. And that is the ball game. Well, Boo, four games wasn’t too long of a losing streak, but they’re definitely happy to be back in the win column. Now you can turn things around, get on the right track, and probably start a winning streak from here. And this one ends with the score 8 to five. The A’s are victorious for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shami. We’ll see you soon.
