And if you want to be playing meaningful games at the end of September, you got to put your head down and grind for the next eight weeks. Hello baseball fans and welcome to an ALS matchup on the show. It’s the Seattle Mariners and the Los Angeles Angels. First pitch coming your way next. about to get started here and getting the start for the Angels, Tyler Anderson. Well, coming into this game, hitters are batting under 250 against this starting pitcher. So, it just shows you how effective he’s been. He’s been able to move his pitches around, add and subtract, change up the look so that hitters don’t get too comfortable, and start squaring up the baseball. We’ll see what he’s got in this one. [Applause] JP Crawford, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. [Music] [Applause] Next one is off the plate and it’s 2 and 0. That one fouled off. [Music] [Applause] swing and a miss. Going to really need to hang in there with that front side against this left-handed breaking ball. And a good eye there. Really good take, especially with two strikes. Fouled off and they’ll do it again. Look out. Elbow smoked. Man, I am so relieved that they have this netting down the line just to ensure safety for the fans. Last thing is a player you want to look up and see a fan get hit. Swing and a miss and he struck him out. Now one away. It’s a strike out, but they’ll be in good shape if they make their outs as difficult as that one. Those grinding abs take a toll on a pitcher as the game goes on. And now it’s Julio Rodriguez. Definitely scuffling at the dish lately. barely hitting over the Mendoza line this month. First offering and it just misses. One ball, no strikes. One down, base is empty. That’s inside. And now two and 0. This one in the air center field. Adele moves under it. He makes the catch and there’s two down. And now we check out the Mariners lineup and one of the most exciting young stars in the sport. Julio Rodriguez. Well, Boo, there aren’t many guys who have a flare for the big moment like he does. I mean, batting over 400 with runners in scoring position. Are you kidding me? I I know it’s not guaranteed or an automatic, but I hope we get to see him in a close late game situation with runners in scoring position and just see is he truly a machine or not. Cal Raleigh in the box now as he leaves that one up high. So a foul ball makes it one and two. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. And a nice inning of work there as he sets him down. One, two, three. M’s nothing. Angels coming up back after this on the show. back here at Angel Stadium. And today’s starter, Logan Gilbert. And Chris, pitching on the road has not been particularly kind to him. Yeah. And you don’t want to be too quick to say that he can’t pitch on the road. Sometimes, you know, it’s just a matter of luck. It’s not having a feel difference between the bullpin mound to the mound out there on the playing field. Don’t know what it is, but I know this. He’s got good enough stuff to overcome and get it done on the road as well as at home. So, we’ll see what he’s able to do in this one. Zack Neto, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. That one finds the zone and a count one and one. And a seed into center. That’s a base hit. Solo runner aboard to start the inner. Seems like he got exactly what he was looking for right there. Against good pitchers, you’ve got to take advantage of the mistakes. That was right in his wheelhouse, but he didn’t miss a stitch. And next for LA, Nolan Shanowell. Late swing fouled to the left. Come on, Nolan. Pitch is in there. And that is strike two. Pretty rare location right there. Right down the middle. This guy paints the edges. Not sure if you’re going to see that pitch again as a hitter. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. I don’t like to say he wasted a pitch. I think that was a purpose pitch. Change the eye level. Have him look up. Now go back exactly where you want to go. Fights that one away. Still one and two. Flew open a little bit with that front shoulder, but was able to slow his bat down just enough to make contact with that pitch. Keep the at bat alive. Neto gets his lead at first. Nobody out. Gets a piece and stays alive. 3-2 now. Got him. He battled for a long time, but it finishes with a strike out. You can’t be mad at yourself after an attack like that one. I guarantee he’s going to check the tape on that last pitch when he gets a chance because he thought it was ball four. And he wasn’t wrong. I mean, it was a close pitch. Definitely not an easy call, but especially after a long at bat, that’ll drive you crazy getting rung up like that. Here’s Trout. Move to first. Needto back in on a dive. That’s in there. And that is strike one. The pitch. turned on, but that’s fouled down the third baseline. Clearly hoping he could get a swing and miss on that, but doesn’t fool the hitter with that breaking ball. Nice job. Just couldn’t keep it fair. Strike three. And that’s two in a row. Oh, interesting. and he’s looking very comfortable out of the stretch after giving up the lead off single backto-back strikeouts. So, they haven’t been able to move that runner up, get him into scoring position and try to have a better chance of scoring. I tell you, good job so far on the mound. He just needs one more out. Taylor Ward now at the plate as he swings through strike one. Slider misses outside. [Music] The one two bows it back with two strikes. Fans another and that’s three straight strikeouts. Angels leave one scoreless after one. And welcome back to the ballpark. Top of the second. Now it’s Randy Rosena. [Music] Anderson back to work. right through there for a strike. [Music] [Applause] And there’s the strike. That fast ball, even though it’s off, that’s the velocity you want to go after. Low 90s a lot better than trying to hit the high 90s. [Applause] Anderson ready to work. Gets a piece and it stays 0 and two. Fouled off the plate. They’ll do it again. That’s off the inside corner at a count. One and two. Two strike rip towards third. Over to first up, one down. The batter now, Jorge Palano. There’s a strike. [Music] [Applause] Breaking ball misses down and away. One ball, one strike. That catches the outside corner. That’s strike two. One out. Base is empty [Applause] on the ground. And that’s just foul. [Applause] And now two and two. [Music] [Applause] And that’s downstairs and outside. And down on strikes he goes. That K is his third of the game. off to a strong start, Sigy, as he’s punched out three of the first five he’s faced. Well, he’s definitely minimizing contact. He can get the swing and miss when he needs it, but he’ll also keep the defense fresh behind him, allowing some balls in play as well. Now, a chance for Luke. That’s a strike. It’s 0 and one. Second inning here. No score. Strike two. No ball. Two strike. [Applause] Fouls that off to the left and will do it again. Got him looking. That’s a strike out. Mariners down in order. We’ll go to the bottom of the second. No score. Back in Anaheim. Bottom half of inning number two. Here’s Joe Adele. Joe Adel. And a good fast ball to start him off. That’s strike one. And a slider in there for a strike. Well, he didn’t like those first two pitches. Now in an O2 hole. He’s going to have to battle. Hope he gets a mistake. Battling here as he fouls it away. the 02 swing and a line drive and a base hit out into left center field. So, a man on base to start the inning. I’d say a mistake pitch in an 02 count. Too good of a pitch to hit right there. You have to expand the zone. Keep that leadoff man off first base. Jorge Solair up at the plate. First pitch misses. [Applause] They had a foul ball. [Music] [Applause] Next offering is fouled back. Got him swinging. Well, that’s always the key to effective pitching is getting ahead in the count. And as a pitcher, it really allows you to start expanding the zone. Hitters become defensive and all of a sudden that plate starts to get really wide. And what happens is because of the pressure, you end up committing to a pitch as a batter before you recognize what it is. And that’s what leads to the strikeout. Now at the plate, Logan Ohappy. Little chopper rolls foul. Adele over at first with one away. Outside low. Now one and two. [Music] [Applause] and downstairs. Great job of laying off those pitches down in the zone to even the count up at two and two. Such a better feeling for the hitter. Come on, let’s keep it going. Get out of here. Next pitch is outside. So, here we go. Base runner at first. Could be running on the pitch. He’s got good enough speed to steal the bag to get in scoring position, even if it’s a swing and miss at the plate. Swanging a popup. Crawford should have this one. Pulls it down and there’s two gone. Batting eight, second baseman Luise Renhifo. Luis Renifo gets a chance to hit here. [Applause] Ruer takes off. There’s a ball. throw a second. Great jump. And that is a stolen base. It wasn’t even close. You know what? I like the aggressiveness right there. It looks like it’s going to be tough to score in this one. Really good pitching so far. So, why not try to put some pressure on them and see if you can steal the bag, get in the scoring position. Off the mark there. And that’s ball two. Come on, let’s go. Just missed. Kevin Newman in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. [Applause] Man at second. So now two on and two outs. Just came apart right there. four pitch walk and guy at the plate was not going to help him out by swinging at something out of the zone. The batter now Kevin Newman. [Applause] There’s the strike of the knees. [Applause] hits the top of the zone at 98 for a strike. [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Next pitch just misses. One and two to count. [Applause] Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. [Applause] outside corner. Got him looking. Sometimes he wears the emotion on the sleeve, but that’s okay as long as he’s getting results. And right there, thrilled with the punch out to get out of a jam. And we’re back. And now the veteran catcher, Mitch Garver. Mitch Garver. Garver hitting seventh in today’s lineup. And he’s one of the few players in Major League Baseball born in New Mexico. That one’s in there. One. No ball. One strike. That’s a bullet, but it goes foul. Pitch misses outside and the count one and two. Fights it off. He’ll see another. And that’s off the inside edge. And it’s two and two. Sit him down. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Well, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. Now Dominic can zone. First pitch just misses. Get the double play. Next offering is fouled back. Here goes the runner and that one popped in the air left field. Ward sizing it up feeling for the wall. Makes the catch and foul ground. Batting night, third baseman, Miles Mastro. Here’s the third baseman, Miles Mastroy. Hey, now turn here. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. One ball, no strike. [Music] That one ripped and foul ball man at first one away. Got him swinging now. Five strikeouts for him in the M. Oh, nothing too fancy on the strikeout pitch right there. Just a low 90s fast ball. And I’m not sure he was trying to challenge him, but that’s pretty much what happened. Very hitable location. He found a way to just get it by him. Back to the top of the Seattle order. And now for Seattle, JP Crawford. He struck out swinging at his first at for a strike. And it’s 0 and one. Two gone, but the go-ahead run is at first. We’re here in the top half of inning number three. And a foul ball. [Music] Gloves it on the dive. Throws from the seat of his pants. And that’s a nice play to end the inning. Mariners leave one. Still no score. Back here at Angel Stadium, ready to go for the last half of the inning. Now it’s the Angels leadoff man, Zack Neto. Neto. breaking ball inside and that is ball one and that drops in for a strike. Well, we call that keyholeing. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good, if he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count. Next offering is in for a strike. I mean, that’s perfect location right on the black. I mean, over and over again, this guy demonstrates the ability to hit those spots. They’re so tough to do anything with as a hitter. The 2-2. That one missed. [Applause] It’s a lead off walk and that’s the go-ahead run. Well, they opted to go with the off speed stuff on that 32 with the bases empty. Close pitch, but now he’s got to work out of the stretch. Shalo. Nolan Showell. The next to hit for the Angels. Struck out looking his first time. Ruer takes off out of line out towards center. No trouble here. Puts it away for the one down. [Music] Here’s Mike Trout outfield playing very deep, not wanting anything over their heads. If you don’t get ahead in the count, you can forget about having any success against him. Pitch misses inside. One and0. Runner on the go. Pitch in for a strike. Oh, the throw is over his head. Lead runner makes the turn at second. He’s in there. I think a good throw to second base has a chance to catch him right there. So, that’s a throw he’s going to want back behind the dish. And you roll the dice when you send the runner, but often times you’re trying to force some action. And it worked out great for him right there. Come on. Next one misses and it’s two in one. Two in one the count now. He hasn’t seen a fast ball yet, but you’ve got to be ready to hit one because you doubt the pitcher wants this to go to a 3-1 count [Applause] to third. Mastery tosses across the first, but the go ahead run comes in to score. So important to really lock in on an at bat like this. It seems easy with the infield back, but you’ve got to make sure you put the ball in play. put it on the ground. Brought that runner. Taylor Ward the next to hit for the Angels. 0 for one. He struck out swinging last time. And that’s a little bit high. And that’s ball one. [Applause] And there’s a ball. Two down. Base is empty. But one run across here in the last half of the third. right through there for a strike. Nasty two slider there for a strike. That tells you he’s got a lot of confidence in that pitch. [Applause] Swing and this one’s bounced on the ground. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. No hits, but an error and a walk lead to a run. On to inning number four. It’s the Angels one and the Mariners nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. Here’s the center fielder, Julio Rodriguez. That’s in there. And at strike one. Well, these Mariners, as this game goes on, have to be more disciplined at the plate. So many of their outs have come from weak contact on pitches they’re chasing outside of the strike zone. You can’t do much of anything with those locations. And that’s been true again today. Fights that one away and the count remains 0 and two. And as a pitcher when the hitters are swinging at everything, you feel no need to challenge inside the zone. You just keep working the corners and expanding that strike zone and beyond and they just keep eating right out of your hand. Foul ball still a one and two count. and delivers outside. Two balls, two strikes. And he couldn’t hold back. He’s rung up on strikes. Now it’s the Mariners DH, Cal Raleigh. He was a strikeout victim his first time. [Applause] Oh, great stop. Throw to first and very nicely done for the out. Well, he’s doing a nice job of keeping the ball out of the air. Lets the defense work behind him with another ground ball. Good execution. Randy Rosarena will hit next. Grounded out his first time. That one finds the zone. Strike one. Two down, nobody on. Top half of inning number four. 0 and two now as he swings through it. More and more guys are looking to slug regardless of the count. And this situation will keep a close eye on his approach. Puts it in the air out towards left center. Neto makes the play and it’s out number three. And one, two, three go to Mariners. They still trail one- nothing. Back in Anaheim now. It’s the power speed combo. Joe Adele. Joe Adele. outside low ball one. You know, these Angels showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. He’s only given up one run, but the starter pitch count is starting to get up there and that might be the best news yet for this offense. into left center for a base hit. Had a good start to the inning. Couple of hits in a row for him here. Solid swing from start to end. On time with everything. Really good balance. Nice extension. And he made it out front for the line drive knock. And now they’ve got some speed on first. So we’ll see if they try to get him into motion. Now it’s the right fielder Jorge Solair. Just missed. You know, sometimes all it takes is getting to the next arm before an offense does any damage. And that might be the case today. Adele gets his lead at first with nobody out. Pickoff throw. He’s safe. [Music] [Applause] comes up empty. That’s strike two. Generally, second, third time through the lineup, you want to be able to lean on those secondary pitches and command them. Looks like he’s doing a nice job of it. Cuts and misses. It’s a strike out. Nice. Doubled up with the slider for that punch out. The one before just caught the zone, so as a hitter, you have to protect right there. Great pitch to just expand a little bit more. He got that chase he was looking for. That right there is good pitching. Here’s a big power threat. Logan Ohappy. First time up was a pop out. Check swing and he went strike one. swings through that one. No balls. Two strikes. On the ground, two ball. There’s one throw to first, but he beat it. Now batting second baseman Luise Renifo. So up next, Luis Ranifo. He reached out to walk his first time. And that one just misses a ball and no strikes. swing and a ball popped up. Garver right there to make the grab and that is the third out of the inning. Angels strand one, but they hold a one- nothing lead. And we’re back. Top five. John Shami with Chris Singleton. And leading it off, Jorge Palanco. All right. Los Angeles. [Music] Anderson back to work and he takes a strike. Well, these Mariners doing a great job, Boo, of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way. And I’m seeing very patient at bats out of them. Starter’s leash has to be getting tighter with his pitch count where it is, but so far he’s been really effective in this one. Foul ball still 0 and two. You know, sometimes it just takes getting to the bullpen in order to be able to score runs, and that might be the case today. Pitch misses there. Going to count one and two and down on strikes. Make it seven strikeouts for Well, it’s just a great job of playing catch with the catcher. Exactly where the catcher set up is where he threw that pitch and probably fooled the umpire a little bit because there was no budge at all. So digging in Luke caught looking his first time up and that is downstairs. Ball one. [Music] One down. Base is empty. That’s outside. Ball two. Well, he looks more focused at the plate and working the count after that first at bat strikeout. popped up right side. Ringifo pulls it down and he makes the catch and there’s two down. Up next for Seattle, catcher Mitch Garver. Mitch Garver up to hit here. One for one with a single so far. on the inside corner for a strike. The guy’s going this good. He’s retired seven in a row. You got to step out of the box, fake bunt, do something to break it up. Next offering is in for a strike. [Music] Swing and a miss as he chases that one darting out of the zone. Gets to it onto first and it’s in time for the third out. So that’ll end the inning. Back here at Angel Stadium, we head to the bottom of the fifth. Now the third baseman, Kevin Newman. Kevin Newman. A little bit high and it’s one and0. Next offering is fouled back. Swing and a miss. And it’s one and two. Spin rates outstanding on that high fast ball. Really tough to hit. Fouls it off. Still one and two. He was a little out front but did a good job keeping the hands back long enough to foul that pitch off and a one-two again. Breaking ball in there. Got him looking. Picks up strikeout number seven. Now batting back to the top of the lineup. Zack Neto the next to hit for the Angels. That misses the zone and that is ball one. And that’s downstairs and outside. pulled down the line. This one hammered, but it’s fouled. Base is empty, one away. Last half of inning number five. Swing and a miss as he was late that time. Man, that’s just a nasty splitter. Bottom falls out of it. You don’t see a lot of guys throw that these days, but I tell you what, he’s got a good one. That misses and it’s three and two. Swing and a high-fly ball left field. Rodriguez settles under it. He’s got it and there’s two away. Now batting first baseman Nolan. Two down. Base is empty. Nolan Shanuel the next to hit for the Angels. Bowl for two in this one. and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Action in the bullpen for Seattle. Number 67 appears to be getting ready and I’m sure he’s feeling some nerves. This would be his major league debut. Thornton getting loose as well. The next offering misses and the count even one and one. Two out. Space is empty. [Music] That’s inside. [Applause] Full count. He should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with the three-hole hitter coming up if he’s walked. [Music] [Music] Three balls, two strikes to count. Swinging a ground ball, slings it across. That is the inning. Angels go quietly there. They lead it one- nothing. Top six. And now the right fielder Dominic KZone. Kenzone goes 5 feet 11 in 190 lbs and he was drafted in the eighth round back in 2019. Top of the zone and it’s called a strike. No balls, one strike and fouled off. Gets a piece and it stays 0 and two. lifted in the air down the left side. Neto on the move. Nice grab as he reached down to make the play. Now batting third baseman, Miles Master. Next to hit, Miles Mastroy struck out swinging his first time. Yeah, that’s fouled off. fouled off left side. The Halos up by a run and we’re the top half of the sixth. Struck him out looking. Oh, there’s a three pitch strike out. He can do whatever he wants with the baseball right now. Short JP Crawford. [Applause] So the lineup flips over and stepping in for the Mariners, JP Crawford. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Let’s go ball. Two O’s to count. He swings and fouls one off. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Oh, he doesn’t get the call. And that’s ball three. Here’s an opportunity to do some damage and perhaps unlock this offense. 3-1 count. Be ready to turn on a fast ball. [Music] 3-2. Swaying. And a ball popped in the air. Shanowell makes the grab and that’ll end the inning. Make it six shut out innings for him out there. Now it’s the Angels one and the Mariners nothing. Now pitching for number 67 gets the call from the pen. Pretty tight game. So they’re looking for quality pitches out of him right here. Got to do his best to keep the score right where it is. And now the DH Mike Trout. He is quite an athlete. I mean, you look around the other sports, basketball, football, you feel like he could thrive in one of those sports, too. and first offering is fouled off. You know, these Angels putting together some really good at bats in this game. There’s been a lot to like with how they’re approaching their chances at the plate. They really made that opposing starter work in this one. Ran his pitch count up and now they’ve got an opportunity to continue making things difficult on the bullpen. Swing and a miss. It’s a ball in two strikes. And no, they haven’t broken through in a big way in the runs column, but with the way they’re grinding out at bats, it definitely feels like there’s potential for more coming. Sends it across to first. One away. Bottom of the six. Now batting left fielder Taylor Ward. Now the left fielder Taylor Ward. Come on, Angel. Let’s go. There’s the strike. Some activity in the Mariners bullpen. Edward Bazardo getting loose out there. Let’s go. And that’s a little bit high. One and one. [Music] Swing and a miss at 96. Struck him out. Two away. Thought it was a pretty good pitch. top of the strike zone. We’re seeing more fast balls in that location. Hitters, especially with two strikes, have to be ready to pull the trigger [Music] and first offering is fouled off. That clips the corner. Really good cutter that he’s able to front door and back door. That pitch is devastating. 0 and two now. Cut on and missed. And it’s a strikeout. And that is the inning. Angels go down one, two, three, but they lead it one to nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. Top of inning number seven. And now the center fielder, Julio Rodriguez. Julio Rodriguez. Ball one low. And another ball activity in the bullpen for the Angels. Reed Deetmers, a lefty looks to be getting himself ready. Burke warming up as well. [Applause] Yeah, there’s the strike. And that is out of play. Next pitch is outside. Now in this three ball count down in the ball game, you’ve got to be very selective. Take your walk if they’ll give it to you. Looking to get the tying run on base. Foul ball and it remains a full count. [Applause] This one driven deep way back there and it’s gone. We are tied. He sends a rocket to left. Home run number 15 on the year. It’s one. The count was full, but he was ready to swing it. Looks like this guy was looking out over the plate, but he was ready to turn on the inside. Fast ball. So direct to the pitch. Absolutely blasted out of this ballpark. Here comes the skipper and we’re going to see a pitching change in this spot. Tyler Anderson will depart and it’s a tie ball game as he heads for the dugout. Back with a new arm after a quick break. Now pitching the left-hander on now, Reed Deter. This softball has been really good against left-handed hitters. Cal Raleigh the next to hit. This guy with light tower power misses the zone and he gets him to chase. Heart of the order coming through now and with one home run already in this inning, they’re definitely looking to do some more damage. [Applause] That one is absolutely belted. High bounce takes it over the fence for an automatic double. The automatic double kind of feels like enjoying cruise control in your car. Boo. You don’t need to keep the pedal down as you cruise into second base. Just no worries in the world. You know what? He put a really good swing on that one. So, the go-ahead run is into scoring position. Randy Rosarena up next for the Mariners. There’s a strike. [Applause] Go ahead run in scoring position. Nobody out [Applause] and that one missing low. That pitch gets the corner and the count is one and two. down and in. Moved his feet. [Applause] Go ahead run in scoring position. Nobody out here in the top half of inning number seven. Next offering misses and it’s three and two. Jorge Palano in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. [Applause] man at second and ball four to a board. Well, they didn’t give him anything to hit and now with runners on first and second, they’ve set up a double play opportunity. So, not a terrible result. Jorge Palano up next for the Mariners who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts in there and it’s 0 and one. Well, in this situation with runners on, you’ve got to get ahead in the count so that you can dictate the rest of the at bat. Nice job right there. Now, a pop up on the infield and the infield fly rule call. Now that first baseman, Luke Luke digs in. Now, you know, this is kind of a tough matchup as a left-handed hitter facing a left-handed pitcher. But what you tell yourself is I want to stay square to the plate. Try to hit the ball over the shortstop’s head. First pitch and he just misses. One ball, no strike. [Applause] Ground ball left side. Could be two. Needto lost the second over the first. Safe. Well, that’s great hustle out of the box to get down the line knowing that a double play will end the inning. Good job at the finish reaching out for the bag. Now they got runners on the corners and still an opportunity to pick up some runs. [Applause] Garver in the box now. Takes strike one. And I know you want to be patient as a hitter, but you got to be ready to jump on the first thing straight. And he got one right there. But let the bat on his shoulder swings and misses. And it’s nothing but two. I think he was sitting off speed there. And a foul ball. He stays alive. Two on, two outs. [Applause] Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. Lefty out of the stretch. Runners at first and third. And a swing and a miss. And we stay tied as the inning ends. Well, this guy competes hard. We see the emotion there. I love it. Great job of getting out of the jam. Bottom of the seventh. So in now for the Angels. Jorge Solair. Strike one. It might be time to choke up a little bit. Get that front foot down early. Maybe even just spread out. He’s really late right now. Fast ball for a strike. [Music] In the air, center field. Rodriguez, makes the catch for the out. Now batting catcher. Logan Ohappy. The next to hit for the Angels. [Applause] [Music] That’s a strike. And that one pulled foul. All tied up here in the bottom of the seventh. Just off the outside edge. Now one and two. I think he’s trying to get a feel for where that one missed. I mean, it could have gone either way, but he looked a little shocked for a second there. [Applause] And that’s ruled the swing. It’s a strike out. Oh, big power guy right there and generating so much bat speed. It’s hard to bring that to a halt once you’ve committed. He tried to check the swing, just couldn’t do it. [Music] And that one fouled off. Two down. Nobody on outside and one and one [Applause] way high. [Applause] fouls one off. Two and two. That one missed. Kevin Newman in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. [Music] [Applause] Two outs. Fouled off again and it remains three and two. Good job to fight that one off. [Music] Let’s go. Hard hit to third. Zips it to first. Inning over and the Angels are gone in order. Score remains deadlocked at one. So, the Angels turn to their bullpen for a new pitcher, Rock Burke. He doesn’t get a lot of strikeouts compared to other relievers. So, he relies on getting that soft contact and the defense doing work behind him. They’ll have to be on their toes with him on the bump. So, digging in, Dominic, right Dominic. And a swing and a miss. Action in the Angels bullpen. Kenley Jansen, the veteran right-hander, appears to be loosening up. Close but called a ball and it’s one and one. Homeplayed umpires trying to tighten things up a little bit. Highf fly ball right field. Solair getting an angle on it and out number one on the grab. So, they’re making a move for a bat off the bench. Ben Williamson looking to start something with one gone. [Applause] In for a strike. Good slider. 01. just missed. Line drive down the line and it’s fouled. Clearly trying to stay back a little bit longer for that change up as he fouls that fast ball back. Swing throw it in and that’s a strike out. He came out of his mechanics there. Typically likes to shoot the ball the other way, but that time little anxious and the batter will be the shorts stop JP Crawford. That’s in there. Going one. Two down, nobody on. And we’re in the top of the eighth. Just off the outside edge and that’s ball one. The shorts stop takes a ball. [Music] [Applause] right through there. Got it. And it’s a three up, three down in. Nobody left for Seattle. Score remains tied 1-1. Now pitching for back now. New pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth. Casey Legumino coming on to face a righty here and he’s been fantastic against him this year. His numbers in those matchups are very good. Now a move being made for a pinch hitter. Yan Mona looking for a spark to untie this game. Line drive. base hit off to a good start for the lead off now. One of the hardest things to do in the game to stay mentally and physically ready for the big opportunity and he came through for his club right there at the plate. Zack Neto [Applause] clips the corner and that is strike one. If you’re a base runner, you got to stay dialed in here. Look for anything in the dirt. Try your best to get in scoring position. The go ahead run aboard at first. Nobody out. Text offering upstairs. Action in the bullpen for Seattle. game spire. The lefty with big swing and missed stuff is getting ready. Good approach right there. You want to get something just a little higher that you can elevate. Stay on that double play. Stays alive. [Applause] Two two in the dirt. Blocked. Well done behind the dish. [Applause] The 2-2 knocks that one away and we’ll do it again with a go ahead run at first here in the bottom half of the eighth inning. Ground ball left side to the pitcher covering but it’s off target. They can’t make the play shallow. And here’s the first baseman, Nolan Showell. 0 for three in this one. Off the plate inside. Ball one. Well, this is a critical spot for both the pitcher and the hitter. You can learn a lot about a guy by how he handles these pressure situations. Close, but call the ball. Now 2 and 0. That’s good pitch there. Really had some run and finished little up and in just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. Mona on second. Neto at first with nobody out. Next offering is in for a strike. just misses there. That’s one you always want as a pitcher down at the knees and it looks to me like he’s barking. That’s a strike. Doesn’t change the call, but sometimes it helps to let that frustration out a little bit. [Applause] That ball is foul and the pressure is building. Pretty good pitch there to take a rip at. He wants to get his arms extended. He likes the ball away from him a little bit. Just not able to square it up. And they’re all loaded up. Well, the stage has been set for this offense. Boo. It’s all about creating opportunities. And this is one of them right here. Mike Trout the next to hit for the Angels. Golden opportunity right here. Boo. This has been a good one. A really good game to this point and huge opportunity with the bases loaded. And the first offering is not close. They need a strike out and you need a ball perhaps on the ground for a double play or get yourself a popup something. But you got to make some pitches. But if he can battle and get through this, he can earn some points. Pitch misses and the count is 2 and0. Pressure is on right here. Two count. Base is loaded. You don’t want to fall to a three ball count and then walk in or on. He’s got to challenge the hitter right here. That one back up the middle and it gets through. One runs in. The second run scores and they lead by two. Well, there you go. The RBI machine. Another clutch run scoring at back. Yeah, he’s been so good in these situations. Call it clutch if you want, but his resume speaks for itself. And here comes the Mariners manager to the mound. Pitching change coming. Casey Legumina departs. Two-run ball game as he heads for the dugout. And we’ll be back with a new pitcher. Now pitching, Trent Thornton comes on now. And this could be a pretty critical point in this game. They’re hoping he’s the guy to keep him within striking distance. Taylor Ward the next to hit for the Angels 0 for three with two strikeouts and a ground out. Highfly ball and that one curling foul down the right side. First and second here. No outs. [Music] on the ground to third. Fair ball. Shadow around third. Can’t run it cleanly. One run across. Another scores. Two runs in on the play and they’re up by four. Really nice job of two strike hitting in that attack. There’s nothing cheap about the way he got that one through the infield. That was ripped. cut out in front and didn’t get under it like he would have liked but definitely put a good swing on. Joe Adell getting ready to hit. Lots of pop at the plate. Outfield playing back almost on the warning track. hammered down the right side, but foul. [Applause] One-1 [Applause] And that misses. Two and one. Runner at second. Nobody out. [Applause] Ripped. But a curls foul. [Applause] Hard grounder into the outfield for a knock. And they get it in quickly. First and third now with nobody out. Having himself a really nice game at the plate. Smash that one through the infield for the knock. When it’s hit that hard, it makes it very tough on the infielders to make any sort of play. So, runners at the corners, nobody out. Jorge Solair the next to hit for the Angels. 0 for three with two strikeouts and a fly out. Curve ball drops in for a strike. [Applause] Rolled to short. Could be two. Over to Palanco. They get one. They get the out, but the run scores on the Twin Killer. Now the catcher up to hit. Logan Ohapp. Logan O’H. [Applause] [Applause] Swings and misses. And it’s one and one. [Applause] slides for the stop. What a play. Inning over, but it’s a huge fiveun inning and he gives them the lead through eight full. It’s the Angels six and the Mariners won. Back in Anaheim, we go to the ninth now. The number two hitter, Julio Rodriguez. Julio Rodriguez. Burke back to work. Burke, 28 years old, and he found his way onto the team after being claimed off waiverss. Activity in the bullpen. Carson Fulmer up and throwing. Soraniano also throwing. [Applause] on the ground right side. Ranifo now one gone in the night. Cal Raleigh up next for the Mariners. One for three. [Applause] That misses the zone. Ball one. tried to back door him with that slider right there, but just missed off the plate. Good pitch though. Next offering is in for a strike. Sliced hard but foul. [Music] The one two. Good eye right there. Two balls, two strikes. [Applause] Base is empty, one away. You’re in the top of the ninth. A defensive swing right there. Some cheese on the inside part of the plate that the hands are still stinging after that one. Monata toss the first and they’re down to their last out. Now batting left fielder Randy Orena. Next to hit Randy Rosarena. [Applause] Foul ball there inside and the count is one and one. They’re down to their final strike. One, two, Burke is just one strike away. Got it. And that’s the ball game. I don’t care if you’re a top team or you’re a middle of the pack team. Every ball club wants to be dominant at home. Winning a game like this just helps to boost the confidence and makes you look forward to coming out again for the next one. 61 is your final here today.
