So, a leadership is hard because you got to do unpopular things and sometimes alienate co-workers. So, Tua, who’s an adult, who’s a grown-up, who’s a really smart kid, um, has had to deal, sometimes it feels like he’s had to sort of babysit Tyreek Hill. And I felt Dak had to do this with Dez Bryant is that Dak came into the league um, very mature and very focused. And I feel bad when these young quarterbacks often they’re great teammates um I think they have a you know there’s a certain burden put on them by people who can’t get it together and Tua was talking remember Tyreek Hill threatened he wanted to leave the team remember he talked about that recently and um Tua talked about their relationship and Tyreek Hill it’s still a work in progress not just for me but for everybody but everyone knows what he can do on the field. everyone respects what he can do on the field. Uh but I think, you know, he’s he’s still trying to figure things out for himself as well. Uh kind of the man he wants to be. Um and you know, he’s not too young. Like everybody makes mistakes. Um it’s just some people, you know, they they’re in the spotlight, you know, and and they’re their deals get uh get pushed out more than than some others. He’s being diplomatic. It’s time for Tyreek Hill to eventually grow up again. The Cowboys had to move off Dez Bryant. He couldn’t. Um, Stefon Diggs, who I really like. Josh Allen’s like enough. Kyle Shanahan, Debo, CIA, Steelers on AB. I mean, the Chiefs won back-to-back Super Bowls the minute Tyreek Hill left, they went with the old slow tight end. Um, even the great Randy Moss, Brady won Super Bowls pre and post. I think sometimes I’m not I’m not I mean I love AJ Brown. I think he’s unbelievable for Philadelphia, but the heart and soul of that team is Saquon Jaylen Herz and that offensive line and that’s the way it should be. I am not arguing about the value of great wide receivers. But the uglier the weather gets in Cincinnati, Baltimore, Buffalo, Kansas City, how much is a guy 75 down yards down the field with a quarterback who doesn’t throw a lively deep ball in wind, how much value does it have? And and and my take is, you know, great wide receivers are a little bit like those like Christmas tree toppers. It’s the first thing you look at and that they had value, but it doesn’t keep the tree upright. Like, you can’t build around it foundationally. In fact, I I’ve argued this with football people. I think a great tight end is more valuable than a great receiver because tight ends block and help the run game and they don’t get marginalized in December and January with bad weather. They run shorter, easier to complete routes. So that the two dynasties in the last 25 years in this league were led by Gronk and Travis Kelce and star quarterbacks. Wide receivers revolving door in New England. Wide receivers frankly in Kansas City have been even more of a revolving door. At least Edelman hung around for a while. So star receivers, they are great for headlines. I’m not sure they’re great for hardware. And I also I I think it’s a burden that you lay on young Dak or a young quarterback like Tua that he there’s some handholding here going on. And I I think my take and I said this last year, I’d move off Tyreek Hill. Somebody will bite. He’s a very very good player. But um you do get to a point when how how much is worth I think how good AB was. Pittsburgh Mike Tomlin player friendly is like we’ve had enough. George Pickkins enough already. So DK Metaf Seattle’s like listen the penalties are stacking up. We we got to move off it. And I’m not diminishing the value of the person but I am saying when Tua has to come out and go to a podium and you can see him dance around the very uncomfortable truth. Um, and so as we make our NFL predictions, um, I’ve always felt I do a pretty good job on predicting teams that were bad and that can double their win total. This year I’m taking New England as one of the shocking teams. Last year I took Washington and Denver. Did pretty well on that. Um, and then there are teams that are good that everybody kind of agrees probably caught lightning in a bubble. They won’t be as good this year. Detroit. The good team I’m not sure what to do with is Green Bay. I don’t know what to do with it. And and the reason being is most Super Bowl winning teams, even teams that get to the Super Bowl, have like six to seven elite players. And I I looked at this, the Athletic this week, ran pre-training camp NFL power rankings. And they had Green Bay at five. Well, I can name the Eagles. I can name eight to nine great Eagle players, seven or eight Ravens, six or seven Bills, six or seven Chiefs. I I can’t really name seven or eight great Packer players. And so I said to the staff this morning, let’s go to a team that’s viewed as middle of the pack power rankings, Denver. So let’s let’s rate the 12 best players if you combine Denver viewed as middle of the pack. I don’t think so. I think they’re better than that. and Green Bay elite. So, the best player would be Patrick Certan of Denver. He did not miss a tackle last year. I’m not joking. He’s the best corner in the NFL. Highest coverage grade of every corner. He is an unbelievable all-time great corner. They got him locked up financially. Second best player would be a Green Bay tackle, Zack Tom. So, he was the third highest graded right tackle. I think Tristan Worf’s uh Pine Su was better and Lane Johnson was better. Tristan’s moved over to the left side. So, he’s a they just signed him up. He’s a really really good tackle. He’d be the second best player. Third best player would I’ll give it to the Packers again. Josh Jacobs. Um PFF has their best 101 players. They have him 34th. He was a touchdown machine last year. 15 rushing touchdowns. He’s a tremendous player. Fourth, Nick Bido Denver. That guy popped last year. He absolutely pop. Pro Bowler, all Pro Bowl first team. He’s he it he can run like a small linebacker and give you the edge rush like a Max Crosby. He is a just a hybrid great athlete. Number five, Quinn Miners, Denver. I know you don’t talk about interior lineman. Second highest graded guard in the league last year. 711 pass blocking attempts. Gave up one sack. I may have him low mostly because he’s a guard. I would say the six best players defensive end for Denver, Zack Allen. Again, in this franchise, some of these guys we don’t talk about a lot. He led the NFL in 40 quarterback hits and ranked second in quarterback pressures. So, again, he’s kind of an unheralded guy. We know about Chris Jones, you know, we know a lot about Jaylen Carter because those teams are on TV every week. Those those teams are in playoff game. Zack Allen is a dog, okay? He’s a big- time player. I’d say number seven is Garrett BS, left tackle for Denver. Again, great position, great player. 700 times he dropped back to protect his quarterback. He gave up two sacks. Uh I, by the way, I’ve I’ve sat next to him on a plane. They don’t make humans that big. I’m just telling you right now, like, man, he they don’t make a lot of humans that big. Second highest graded player on the entire Bronco roster. Now, I’m going to put Jordan Love at eight and Bo Nicks at nine because I think we both acknowledged Jordan Love is good, but is he great? We don’t know. Felt like he regressed last year, but he is one of six quarterbacks with 55 touchdown passes over the last couple seasons. So, he’s good. And then I would put Bo Nicks right behind him. Listen, he led Jaden Daniels. He led all rookies passing yards, completions, touchdown passes, total TDs, and he’s a really good athlete. So, I’m going to put those guys eight and nine. 10. I’ll give it back to the Packers. Xavier McKenna. They got him in a deal. He’s been great for them. Nine takeaways last year. He’s a great player. Came from the New York Giants. Really, really good player. Now, in 11 and 12, again, I think these guys could finish higher, but they both come off injuries. Tylen Huanga, the safety that they got Denver got from San Francisco. He’s a great player. He was great at USC. He was great at San Francisco. Pro Bowler, first team allpro with 97 tackles as a safety in 2022. He got hurt. He is a tremendous play. He could be number four or five on this list. I’m going to put him 11. I’m going to put Dre Green Law, Denver at 12, the linebacker. He was the fifth highest rated linebacker by PFF. Again, he’s San Francisco did not want to lose him. They they tried to figure out a way to keep him, but they paid Fred Warner and they couldn’t keep it. So, eight of the 12 best players with Denver, who the Athletic is saying is kind of a middle of the pack team. Eight of the 12 are Broncos. So, I And here’s the thing. I It’s not that I dislike Green Bay. I just What’s their best unit? You’d be like, “Oh, wide receiver.” Well, then why do they draft a wide receiver with their first pick? Because Christian Watson can’t stay healthy. Well, their offensive line usually a strength PFF has it 14th. So, organizational stability has always been outstanding in Green Bay, but you got to have players. So, I I when I see Green Bay top five or six, I just I I I just they don’t have enough great players. And and and by the way, if you told me this year Bo Knicks was better than Jordan Love, I put him eight and nine. It I’m not doubting it would happen. The defense for Denver is better than Green Bay. So my takeaway is that Bo Knicks is going to have the advantages any quarterback would have with an elite defense, which is better field position. You can open up the playbook. And I think we all acknowledge that Shawn Payeyton’s better than Matt Laflur. I like both. Sean’s different. So I I just don’t know exactly what to do with Green Bay. Jac, I know they’re good. They won I mean, listen, last year they had quarterback injuries. They still won 11 games, but I think the division’s better this year. Hey, can you pop that on the screen once again, Colin? Because I think that list that you just came up with. I think this is a first in the history of your like ranked players. There’s not one wide receiver or tight end on this list. Am I correct here? Now, I love, you know, I love No, no. I love Courtland Sutton. He’s How is he not top 12? I mean, Hua and Green Law haven’t played a snap in Denver. Okay. But Huanga and Greenlaw were elite Pro Bowl players. Sutton in a lot of eyes is a number two receiver. I like him. He’s a lowerend one or a great two. Remember Michael Pitman of the Colts. Like is he a one or a great two? So So I look I like Courtland Sutton a lot. But I but if you look at all the ratings, people see him as like the best number two in the league. Kind of a number two. That’s why they drafted Mims, who they think has no more number one potential talent. And again, I love Courtland, but I would probably have him 13. And that would be another Denver guy. Yeah. Christian Watson just too injured. He can’t stay healthy. So if if you told me 13, I would do Courtland Sutton. And so now I have nine of the top 13 Denver and we think they have a better coach. What is it? Well, Lafleur is excellent. I don’t know. Better. They’re both very, very good. Maybe you go A and a B+. Whatever. What does it say that neither of these teams has skill position guys that scare you? Are they legit? Can they legit be contenders? like don’t put them in the Kansas City group cuz you have Mahomes who can elevate players. I don’t know that Love and Knicks can elevate their receivers the way Mahomes can. Well, I think both I think both are good enough at receiver. Yeah, Baltimore is good enough to contend. Yes, absolutely. Tell me the Jamar Chase triple crown winner last year didn’t make the playoffs. I know. I know. I’m aware of that. So, I think I mean Mims, Courtland Sutton, they drafted that kid in the second round that that they that Shawn Payeyton likes. Harvey um their offensive line is good. Bo Knicks, by the way, hybrid, very capable of moving the pocket and running. I think Denver’s fine offensively. I do. I think they’re fine. By the way, they brought over you to the Super Bowl, bro. Well, good. But, but now I’m not saying these are Super Bowl teams. My whole rant was how is 16 and 114? My rant was I don’t get the greatness of Green Bay. I I I’m assuming if the Athletic have them fifth that they think they’re a Super Bowl contender. I don’t I I I would agree with you. I don’t think the Packers are. So, what are we missing on this team? What are they seeing that we’re not on the Packers? By the way, Sutton, Courtland Sutton, 27th wide receiver according to PFF, a very good starter, but a 27th best receiver would be like low one, top two, and I put him 13. So, nine of 13 would be Broncos. Yeah, that Packers at that high is so puzzling because that division’s so difficult. Yeah, that may just be a whiff by the Athletic. I don’t know. I don’t.
