MLB LIVE🔴 Houston Astros vs Oakland Athletics – Jul 24, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO

First pitch moments away and the right-hander with a good curveball, Lance McCull’s Jr. Chris, what are you looking for from him? Well, coming into this game, hitters are batting under 250 against this starting pitcher. So, it just shows you how effective he’s been. He’s been able to move his pitches around, add and subtract, change up the look so that hitters don’t get too comfortable and start squaring up the baseball. We’ll see what he’s got in this one. Ready to go now. Leading off Lawrence Butler just off the outside edge. And we’re off and rolling here in Houston. Swing and a miss. Strike one. One and one. And there’s a base hit to left. So, a man on base to start the inning. He was all over that one. Really good swing right there. He got a pitch that he knew he could handle. Allowed himself to stay back just a tad bit longer and he hit the ball on the screws. So, up next, Jacob Wilson. That clips the corner. 0 and one. Butler gets his lead at first with nobody out. McCuller’s a move to first. Butler back in on a dive. Right-hander kicks. Deals the other way. And that’s a base hit. lead runner holds up. They’re at first and second with nobody out. Back to back singles showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way. Didn’t get jumpy. Didn’t try to pull the ball. He let it get deep. Took the barrel right to it and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit. Now it’s the rookie first baseman Nick Curts. Really strong hitting performance recently. Hits in each of the last six games. in the air left field down the line. He’s got it and there’s one down. Excellent play out there and he does it in a huge spot. That wall, it can very easily jar the ball loose when you bang into it. So that could have been a really different outcome. Brent Rooker digs in now. Definitely wants to stay out of the double play here. Ball on the ground in the infield. Should be an inning ending double play. right through there for a strike. Really good job in this spot to get ahead in the count. He’s going to have to continue finish off this hitter. [Applause] And that’s in for a strike. And the count is 0 and two. Just a cement mixer slider right there. It’s a great pitch to hit if you can recognize it early and jump on it. That’s too low. Now one and two. Way to lay off that pitch down. [Applause] and a swing and a miss. That’s out number two. Oh, that slider was way out of the zone. And for me, it just comes down to not seeing the pitch out of the hand, not tracking it into the zone. And then also being a little bit anxious, not confident in your two strike approach. And so when a guy’s in that position, you get him to commit early and a lot of times you get the swing and miss as you did right there. And now a chance for Shay Langalers. I’m liking what I’ve seen from him at the dish lately. Can make it a fivegame hitting streak with a knock in this one. There’s the strike. And that one clips the corner. Well, this is a higher leverage spot. And I love the way that he’s turned things around. He’s got two outs now ahead in this count. And he can pretty much dictate what’s going to happen next in terms of the pitch sequence. and he grounds one to the right side. Altuve whips it to first. Third out and that ends the frame. A strand a couple. Now here come the Astros. No score. You’re dialed into the show. Back here with my pal Singi. Our starter in this one, Jeffrey Springs. Chris, what should we keep an eye on here with him? Well, that whip is just below the league average, and that’s a good thing in this case, not allowing too many base runners. So, on most days, he’s going to go out there and compete and put his team in a position to win. And I expect to see that from him in this one today. Isach Paradis, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. Paradis getting the start in left. 26 years old and he’s a native of Mexico. [Music] swings and misses. That is strike two. Good pitch right there. Tied him up on the hands. If I’m out there on the bump, I’m going right back in there. [Music] Fights that one away. Still one and two. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. That one missing inside. That’s a really good take right there. Slider down and in. very difficult to get on the same plane and do anything with. [Music] Still two and two after the foul ball now. One miss. [Applause] swing and a ground ball base hit right field. He saw a lot of pitches in that at bat and found a way to win the battle. That is second baseman Jose Jose Alt up to here. First pitch just misses. Counts one and0. Paul, that pitch is up. [Music] This one chopped on the ground but foul. Runner at first with no outs here. [Music] Here’s the pitch. Runner on the go. Line drive. Base hit. And it’s now first and second to start the inning. Couple of singles back to back. I can watch base hits like that all day long. And so can every hitting coach in the league. Just a nice line drive into center field. First and second, no outs. Vic Keratini at the plate. Knee high. That’s in for a strike. Paradus the lead runner at second. Altuve at first with no outs. Ah, ground ball and that’s through the infield. Runner around third on his way to the plate. The throw is offline and he’s in the score on the board first. It’s one zip. Big swing of the bat right there to give him the lead. That was clutch. Just one of those seen high base hits through the infield. He just kind of rolled over on it a little bit, but sometimes those can find a hole and get you enough. Cam Smith up next for the Astros. That one fouled off. It’s great to get on the board in the first frame of the ball game, but here’s an opportunity for them to really open things up with a couple of runners on. Let’s see if they can cash in. [Applause] [Music] The one fast ball is outside. They’ve got him working a little harder in this first frame than he anticipated. No outs. Runners at first and second. [Applause] Next offering is fouled back. [Applause] Squirts away from Landelers to second, but way too late. Safe there. Both runners move up on the wild pitch and the double play is no longer in order. Christian Walker will hit next. Good defender. He’s been inconsistent offensively. First offering and it just misses. At this point, the clean inning is over. Got to settle in, focus on the hitter, and get out of it with minimal damage. [Applause] And now two and nothing. [Applause] in the air right side. Rooker sizing this one up and he makes the catch. Runner tanks for home. He’ll score the sack fly. It’s two nothing. There you go. Nice little RBI there. It’s a great at bat. Got the job done. at the plate. Yer Diaz Diaz. There’s the strike. Well, I know they’ve gotten out to an early lead, but you don’t want to take these opportunities for granted with two outs. Still lock in with a quality at bat. Drive in that run. You may not have another runner in scoring position the rest of this ball game. ripped but a curls foul. First inning going a bit long. 23 pitches to this point. [Applause] That one back up the middle and it gets through. Brown’s third headed for the plate. The throw in. He’s safe as he gets his hand in. It’s three zip. Picks himself off an RBI. He had that front foot down and pitch recognition was on point. Pretty impressive for an 02 count. [Applause] So, two down. Kez McCormack up next for the Astros and takes low for ball one. [Applause] And that one is in for a strike. Good pitch. [Applause] Popped up. Nabs it. And that’s the inning. Three runs for him here. And they move ahead onto the second inning now from Dyken Park. It’s the Astros three and the A’s nothing. Top of the second. Here’s the left fielder Tyler Sodro. And Sydney, we already know he’s going to finish the season with a new careerhigh in home runs. Let’s get the win. Well, after putting up a nice inning on offense, got some runs across. This is where you look for the starter to go out there, have a shutdown inning. Don’t give that other team any hope. Uh you just hope that he can get through this inning, get the bats back up there while they’re hot. Paradus, makes the catch for the out. One away. Batting seven to the plate. or shall on the corner for a strike. It’s 0 and one. Man, this guy’s got a great feel for his breaking ball today. Ball one there. The only adjustment he needs to make is his target. If you aim at the outside corner, that slider’s going to end up way off the plate. Perhaps look a little more down the middle and you get it right where you want it. The one two struck him out of the front door breaking ball. Oh, that right there is a nasty front door breaking ball. I mean, those are so tough to stay in on and not give up because out of the hand, it looks like it’s almost going to hit you and then at the last moment dips over that inside corner. Really nice pitch. Two down, base is empty. Now the A’s designated hitter, Max Schuman. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. [Music] And that one off the outside edge. Two out. Base is empty. That’s in there. And it’s two and one. Swing and a miss. Two balls, two strikes [Music] [Applause] up the middle and it finds its way through for a hit. So a two out knock keeps the inning alive. Batting ninth, center fielder Denzel Clark. Denzel Clark up next for the A’s. McCull’s a move to first and he’s back in there. [Music] And the first pitch misses for ball one. There’s the strike of the knees. One ball, one strike. Runner takes off. Pitch misses. Throw to second. And that’ll end the in. The catcher definitely looked ready for that stone base attempt. Got in position quickly and a strike down to second base to end the inning. Back here in Houston, bottom half of inning number two. Here’s Mauricio Dub.io Dub. Springs back to work. That one finds the zone. Strike one. And it’s fouled away. Singi wasn’t very sharp in the first. Got hit around a little bit. Just wasn’t able to locate particularly well. A lot of stuff at the fat part of the plate. Yeah, Boo. He wasn’t fooling anyone. It’s a tough place to be cuz it’s not always obvious what adjustments need to be made. Sometimes it’s location. Sometimes it’s being too predictable. Sometimes you’re tipping your pitches. He’s going to need to figure it out quickly, though. fouls that off to the left and will do it again. [Music] And that one popped to short. Wilson makes the grab. One away. Batting ninth, third baseman, Bryce Matthews. And now Bryce Matthews swings through that one. 0 and one. 01’s the count. Highf fly ball right field. Rooker. Carous it. Two away now. Now batting left fielder and stepping in for the Astros. Isach Paradis scored the first run of the game back in the first after a single to reach base. Pulls that one foul. [Music] Two outs. Lined into left center. Base hit. That’s back to back singles for him. Nice line drive to the full side. Met it out front, but just stayed through it nice enough and ripped it into the outfield. Then at first, Jose Altuve up next for the Astros. One for one with a single so far. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. When you’re struggling out there on the mound, hitters know that there’ll be plenty of opportunities within the at bat to try to get something to hit hard. ball. That’s inside. Swing and a miss. And he’s down on strikes. Inning over. So, the Astros lead one, but they lead it three nothing. And we’re back. Top half of the third inning. And here’s the rookie center fielder, Denzel Clark. That pitch in for a strike going one. Swing and a ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. So now back to the top of the order. Everything came together for him. Smash that one through the infield for the knock. When it’s hit that hard, it makes it very tough on the infielders to make any sort of play. And now they’ve got some speed on first. So, we’ll see if they try to get him into motion. Lawrence Butler getting ready to hit. And that one missing low. Ball one, no strikes. Clark gets his lead at first. Nobody out. McCull’s a move to first. Clark dives back in safely. And a foul ball. Here we go. Ripped to third and caught. That’s what you got to have at the hot corner. Catlike reflexes. Line drive caught by the third baseman as he dives. Terrific play. Next up for the A’s, Jacob Wilson. A single his first time. Check on the runner and he’s back in safely. That one catches the corner for a strike. Man at first. One away. [Music] Up the middle. Oh, he botches it. Still finds a way to get off the throw and they get it. The misplay made it a bit messy, but they clean things up for the out. And here’s the first baseman, Nick Curts. And that’s in for a strike. runner at second. Two down. We’re here in the top half of inning number three. And that’s off the inside edge. One and one. That’s a strike across the top of the zone. One ball, two strikes. [Music] That’s down and in. That one hammered left field. That’s back onto the track and he makes the catch. One hit, one left. We move on to the bottom of inning number three. It’s the Astros three and the A’s nothing. Back here at Dyen Park and now the DH Victor Keratini Victor Keratini and a foul ball. It’s been a rough start on the mound for this guy. This third inning so important for him to get on track, turn the page, settle in, do all those things you need to do to give your team a little bit of length in this one. Ball inside. He’s great hitting the ball the other way and that pitch did a good job to straighten him up a bit. Mission accomplished. And foul ball. Well, he’s having a tough time getting a pitch by him. As a hitter, you feel pretty confident that you’re seeing different pitches still able to make some type of contact. Lifted in the air right field. Rooker makes the catch and there’s one gone. Now batting Cam Smith up next for the Astros. Struck out swinging his first time. Here we go. Here we go. And that misses. And that is ball war. One out. Base is empty. just missed [Applause] and that drops in for a strike. In today’s game, not that many fast ball counts, but hitters still in the back of their minds, they’re looking for one. Two change up call right there. Excellent pitch selection to go with. One down, base is empty. He swings and fouls one off. The 2-2 stays alive. Got him swinging. Oh, nothing too fancy on the strikeout pitch right there. Just a low 90s fast ball and I’m not sure he was trying to challenge him, but that’s pretty much what happened. Very hitable location, but he found a way to just get it by him. Two outs, space is empty. So, next up for Houston, Christian Walker, just missed. Was good pitch there. Billy had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, you had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. I got one ball, one strike. Two down to right through there for a strike. Swaying in a miss. Struck him out and it’s a three up, three down inning. Astros go down one, two, three, but they lead it three nothing. All set for the start of the inning. And now Brent Brooker. Brent Rooker. And there’s the strike. [Applause] swings through that one. Generally, second, third time through the lineup, you want to be able to lean on those secondary pitches and command them. Looks like he’s doing a nice job of it. Hard grounder into the outfield for a knock and the leadoff man aboard. I’d say a mistake pitch in an 02 count. Too good of a pitch to hit right there. You have to expand the zone. Keep that leadoff man off first base. Shay Langalers up next for the A’s. Grounded out his first time up. Next offering pop foul off to the right out of play. Langalers measures 6 feet even 27 years old and he was a third round pick back in 2019. [Music] Pitch misses there. And now it’s even one and one. [Music] Fly ball center field. Makes the grab. One down. Now batting left fielder Tyler Soderstrom. Tyler Soderstrom the next to hit. Fly to left his first time. Strike on the inside corner. McCull’s a move to first. Rooker back on a dive. on the corner at the knees for a strike. Probably the best one we have seen. Throwing it where he wanted to have a nice tight spin to it and a teaser just off the edge of the plate. And the next pitch is way outside. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. That K is his third of the game. He’s locked in at the plate when he’s using the whole field. He was out in front there. Just needs to let the ball travel a little more and his timing will be back on track. Good pitch for the strike out. Ursella in the box now as he looks at ball one. Second played appearance of the day for him. Missed with a change up. Two and0. Rooker leads off first with two down to the inning. That one misses and now three and 0. A rare three ball count here. He’s been throwing strikes all day. Got to be ready to hit if you’re in the box. Spits the plate and the count is three and one. [Applause] So now two on and two outs. Not what he wanted to do there, Boo. That keeps this inning alive and gives this offense a good chance to cut into their deficit. First and second, two outs. Max Schuman up next for the A’s. And he’s already singled in this game. Pitch misses. Ball one. And another ball. Tough spot right here. A couple runners on. Two ball count. You can’t nibble, but you have to execute and finish your pitch. If you leave something out over the plate, it’s going to bring in some runs. Here’s a two- in there for a strike at the bottom of the zone. Nasty two- slider there for a strike. That tells you he’s got a lot of confidence in that pitch. And that is in for strength. Well, at that velocity, if that’s all you’re seeing, 88, you can handle that all day long. That’s what you get in batting practice. But off the velocity of the fast ball, now that’s strike three and the third out. So, we take a break. So, they strand a pair. We’re midway in the fourth. It’s the Astros three and the A’s nothing. [Applause] Bottom of the fourth. At the plate is the Astros catcher, Yiner Diaz. Diaz. first pitch and he just misses. Well, these Astros showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. It’s not just the three runs they’ve already scored. On top of that, they forced this starter to throw more pitches than he wanted to at this point of the game. And that pitch count is impactful because if they can keep making him work hard out there, it may force the bull to get involved a little sooner rather than later. Come on. Yeah. He’s one of those Dave Mccardi, Mark Carryon, Ricky Henderson types. Throw left, bat right. You make a note of those guys cuz it’s just different. It’s like, man, you’re left-handed, but you hit right-handed. Now, one of one. High in the air out to right. Rooker pulls it in. Two away. Now batting the shorts stop. Maurice. Two down. Base is empty. Here’s the shortstop at the plate. Mauricio Dubon. First time up was a pop out. That’s off the mark. And that’s ball one. Counts one and0. down the right field line and a base hit and that keeps the inning alive. Now, now the third baseman, Bryce Matthews, fly to right his first time. Matthews that one off the mark and it’s one and0. All one, no strikes. That one pushed foul. Instead of letting the hitter get his arms extended, tied him up a little bit. Slightly up, slightly in. Foul ball and that one is inside. Here we go. Full count. Good spot there, but didn’t get the strike at the knees and doesn’t seem too convinced by the call out there on the mound as he tries to get a better sense of the umpire strike zone. Oh, look at the stop. Takes it himself and he got him. Nicely done at first for the out. One left for Houston, but they’re on top by a count of three to nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. We go to the top of the fifth. Here’s the speed threat, Denzel Clark. Boo. This guy’s just a tremendously talented center fielder. Gold glove caliber type out there. Offensively, he can do some things, but you know, also has some streakiness as well. I think the key just trying to find a way for him to be consistent day in and day out. You know, he saves runs in the outfield, so that’s going to buy him more time to work things out at the dish. Swing and a pop up. Matthews, he makes the grab and there’s one down. That was a good pitch to hit right down the heart of the plate. Had pretty good timing on it. Just got underneath it a little bit and popped it up. Now it’s the second baseman, Lawrence Butler. One for two. Well, I think the key I mean if he can get through one more inning, anything after that, a hitter or two is bonus, but they should be lined up good enough to get to the finish line outside and it’s 2 and 0. Ripped to short, snagged on a bounce, fires to first and it beats him. What a play. Now batter number five and the batter will be the shorts stop Jacob Wilson. The offense needs to start showing some fight against this starter. He’s doing his thing out there. They’re going to have to push back at some point and make him work a little bit harder. [Applause] The shorts stop takes a ball. And that is out of play. Look at Sharp just a strike away from five shut out innings. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. And one, two, three go the A’s. Still down three nothing. [Applause] We head to the bottom of the fifth now. Here is Paradis Paradus Springs back to work. That’s a strike and it’s 0 and one. Well, these Astros simply put are producing a lot of quality swings. They’ve been lining the ball all over the ballpark and unfortunately sometimes it’s right into a glove. But still they’ve hit nine line drives so far and that’s something they should feel very good about. That one misses and it’s one and two. Speaking of those line drives, you can’t get too discouraged when they don’t drop in for you. It’s important to remember that you pretty much did everything right and that’s just baseball sometimes. Swang and a ball lifted in the air and there’s one down. Now batting second base. Here’s the former MVP Jose Altuve. Singled and scored back in the first. He’s one for two. Pitch is in there. Strike one. just missed right through there for a strike. spoils a two- strike pitch and he’ll see another. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. That misses. Two balls, two strikes. Well, this is a guy that can be frustrating for pitchers because he fouls off so many pitches and grinds out the at bat. I’m sure there’s sometimes where a pitch would rather just give up a first pitch single than have to waste six or seven pitches on one hitter. In the air out towards left center, Soderstrom snags it for the second out. Now batting the designated hitter. Two out, space is empty. Next to hit, Victor Keratini. He’s a catcher by trade, but the DH here in this one on the corner for a strike. Back door him with a breaking ball. Just got the corner. There’s nothing you can really do with that. And that’s in there for a strike. And quickly nothing at two. Two really good backto-back sliders. Now in an 02 count, he’s feeling real confident about finishing this hitter off. He can go anywhere he wants. Two down, nobody on. Last half of inning number five. Swing and a ball popped up. Kurts under it. Makes the grab and that’ll end the inning. back here in Houston. All right, we go to the top half of inning number six. And now the first baseman, Nick Curts. First offering misses badly for ball one. Activity in the bullpen. Brian Abrau up and throwing. King also throwing. [Music] [Applause] [Music] And that’s outside right now. Behind in the count, two balls and no strikes. No free passes. You can’t allow that. And it is two and one. This guy’s got such a good sinker. As a hitter, you’ve got to look up in the zone. If you look down, you’re going to be chasing stuff in the dirt. Oh, he doesn’t get the call. Ball three. Expect for that guy to come right at you with a fast ball, something in the zone because he does not want to allow the leadoff walk. That one misses. So, a lead off walk. Maybe a little loss of focus on the mound right there. Pretty much gifted in first base with a quick free pass. Next up for the A’s, Brent Rooker. in there at the knees and that’s strike one. Some hitters are just more confident they can track that first pitch out of the hand of the pitcher. They don’t care if they fall behind 01 on the ground. Oh, great stop. Blood flip to second and they get him easily in first. It’s a double play. Really nice double play turn right there. And it all started with that sweet glove flip on the feed to second. You know, these middle infielders, they spent a lot of time honing that glove work. So, it just becomes like second nature. I think you also have to have a really good glove that’s broken in that’s not too large so that you can have a feel for that baseball and be able to flip it like you’re bare-handed. Now, it’s going to be Shay Langelers. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. So, another good inning for him on the mound. Six shutout innings now. It’s the Astros three and the A’s nothing. They turn things over to the southpaw, JP Sears. The southball has been really good against left-handed hitters. JP Sears So, here’s the Astros cleanup hitter, Cam Smith, who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. Come on, let’s go. And first offering is fouled off. And there’s a ball. Movement in the bullpen. Elvis Alvarado appears to be getting loose. Swing and a miss and a count. One and two. One ball, two strike. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. And that’s one out as they get the lead off hitter in the six. Well, they’ve had a great plan of attack for him tonight. I mean, finding all the holes in his swing and his approach just frustrating for him up there. You strike out a guy three times in a game. I think that guy’s got to go back and really study some video with his hitting coach. Figure out how they’re beating him. Make this adjustment really quick cuz Word will get around the league in a hurry. Next offering popped in the air right field. He’s got it and there’s two away. Now batting catcher. Now the catcher up to hit. Yiner Diaz known for his rocket arm behind the plate. Swinging a foul back. That’s out of play. [Music] And that one pulled foul. That missed by a lot. It’s a ball in two strikes. [Applause] Kurts takes it himself. Misplay doesn’t cost him. Inning over. Nothing doing for the offense that time. Seventh inning coming up. It’s the Astros three and the A’s nothing. Now pitching. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mantra. And we all know about a slider. It’s just filthy, man. And one of the better ones in the game, I’d say. Spin rate’s very high and it just breaks a ton. Come on, Soder in the box for the third time today as he takes that one off the plate. Next pitch is outside. It’s been tough for the offense so far, but you can’t get frustrated. You got to find a way to shake it off. Go up there and relax. That’s the only way you’re going to be able to put runs up on the board. Swing and a miss. And that’s strike two. And that’s off the outside edge. Three and two now. Really good take, especially with two strikes. goes down swinging for the strike out. Chase the basketball up the ladder for strike three. That’s tough if you see it well. I mean, that was clearly up and out of the strike zone, but that’s one of the hardest things. But when you see a pitch out of the hand at eye level, that discipline to remember I can’t hit that pitch. If I can see it really well at eye level, I can’t catch up to that pitch when a pitcher’s got this kind of velocity. Here’s Gioella. That misses and that’s ball one. Abrau in his fifth season, 27 years old and he was born in the Dominican Republic. Well, there’s a certain point where you have to commit to what you think you see. And he guessed wrong right there. Nasty slider with just terrific bite at the end. That’s toella is out. That play won’t be trending on social media later on, but it’s still important to execute it to perfection. This game is a lot harder than it looks, partner. Now, the A’s designated hitter, Max Schuman, Swing and a line drive ripped out of the right center. That’s a base hit and that keeps the inning going. Up next for the A’s, Denzel Clark now at the plate. [Music] That misses the zone. Ball one. Schuman the runner at first with two gone. That one missed. Two and0. And that’s in for a strike. [Applause] That clips a corner. [Music] Off the mark there and that’s ball three. Great RBI spot here. Just got to stay focused on the pitch. The runner will be in motion. So something in the gap should definitely score it. Two outs. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. Highfly ball pretty well struck out towards right center. That’s down. One hops off the wall in to score from first and it’s now a two-run game. Well, that worked out as good as it could have. We mentioned the RBI opportunity with the runner moving on the 3-2 pitch and he cashed in by finding a hole in the outfield. You know, that takes a little extra concentration in the box because of the movement on the base pass. Easy to get distracted. So that was a really nice job there. Manager out of the dugout now and he’ll make a move to dip into the Astros bullpen. Brian Abrau won’t go any further and he’s responsible for the runner on second. So the book isn’t closed on him yet. We’ll be right back. Now pitching. So a new pitcher out of the bullpen for the Astros, Brian King. And if you dig into his walk rate, his numbers are really impressive. He’s really filled up the strike zone this season. So these batters better be ready to swing the bats. So runner at second, two down. Lawrence Butler will hit next. One for three. Climb the ladder with that fast ball and one. As a pitcher, you know the runner on second is ready to push things with this speed. A base hit is probably going to be a big run. So, you really have to execute on the mound. [Applause] And a big swing and a miss. He finds himself in a tough situation early. Just going to try to simplify it. Take a knock the other way if you can. That misses the zone and the count is one and two. [Applause] Got him. They limit the damage here. A’s get one on the RBI double and this is now a 31 ball game. It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show. We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. Elvis Alvarado just trying to keep this one close here. And this is where a bullpin can give their players a chance to fight back into the game. And stepping in for the Astros, Kez McCormick two in this one. McCormick. Ball one, no strikes. Let’s go. just missed and that one wrapped foul center field. Clark puts it away for the out. One up, one down. Oh, those can be pretty fun as an outfielder. Got to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down. Nothing better than that. You feel like a wide receiver playing football. Fouled off left side. Look out. That ball was smoked. Man, I am so relieved that they have this netting down the line just to ensure safety for the fans. Last thing is a player you want to look up and see a fan get hit. No balls. Base is empty. One away here. The bottom of the seventh. Ball. One ball. Two strikes to count. Foul ball. Still a one and two count. [Music] That’s inside. Two strikes. [Applause] Got him. Swinging. Slider. Got him for strike three. Well, that right there is just a pitcher’s pitch. Tailing away from the hitter. Loading away with some good action at the end. You know, even if he gets the bat to that ball, it’s probably just a weak ground ball to the opposite side. Tell you what, that’s a tremendous two strike pitch. Matthews stands in now and watches strike one. One’s the count. [Music] Popped up. Wilson makes the catch in and over. One, two, three go the Astros as the lead remains 3-1. And we’re back. Now it’s the short stop, Jacob Wilson, number five. just missed [Music] and another ball inside ball two. That pitch clips the outside corner. Now two balls in a strike. Next offering misses down and away. Three balls, one strike. On the ground to the left, the throw to first and that’s one away as the leadoff man is out in the air. That’s a huge defensive play in the late stages of the game. It might not be the most challenging we’ve seen today, but it needed to be made. That’s helping your team. Herz in the box here. Lets that one go for a ball. And that one is downstairs. And the count is 2 and0. Fast ball on the inside corner for a strike. [Applause] Lefty continues to work, but the closer getting loose in the bullpen. Just misses the mark outside the zone. [Music] and he couldn’t hold back. He’s run up on strikes. Well, we saw a solid effort out of their starter and the bullpen is following suit. It’s just a good day as a manager or as a pitching coach when you can hand the ball off to multiple arms and get stability from all of their performances. Rrooker in the box now. No balls in a strike. [Applause] Check swing called strike. No balls, two strikes. Two down, nobody on. And we’re in the top of the eighth. Got him looking. And good work there as he gets a one, two, three. A’s go quickly and quietly there and it remains a 3-1 ball game [Applause] back here at Dyken Park ready for the bottom of the eighth. Now the left fielder Isak Paredus Paradis Alvarado back to work fast for a strike at 95. That one catches the zone. 0 and2. He doesn’t seem to like to pitch up. Hasn’t offered on either one of those pitches. 02 count now. I think the guy’s going to climb the ladder out there. Ground ball up the middle and that squirts through. Had a good start to the inning. [Applause] Now batting second base. Now the number two hitter Jose Alt. [Applause] The kick and the pitch. Runner goes and it’s fouled off. This one in the air. Ursela settles under it. Pulls it in for the owl. And there’s one away. Now batting. Designated hitter Victor Keratini. Victor Keratini up next for the Astros. Here comes the pitch. There goes the runner from first. Foul chip. Oh, that got her umpire. And it looks like it got him upstairs. That one not close. And the count is one and one. just missed. Paradus at first. One gone. That one fouled off. Two and two. [Music] And the slider just misses. At this point in the game, you cannot issue free passes. He’s going to have to challenge this hitter. Hitter’s got to be ready to swing it. Keeps the atbat going with a foul ball. Little tardy on that fast ball. He’s going to have to get it going a little quicker. Get that front foot down. Foul ball and it remains a full count. Good battle here. About to be the eighth pitch of the at bat. Grounded to third. Could be two. And he can’t come up with it. To second. There’s one double play. And that’ll do it for the inning. No runs, one hit, no errors, and no one left. Ninth inning coming up. It’s the Astros three and the A’s won. Now pitching Josh comes on trying to close it out. I can’t imagine any save is an easy one. You’re holding a small lead on the scoreboard and you know those hitters are going to give you the best at bats they can. So it’s always high stress. Let’s see what he’s got here to try and close it out. [Applause] backed off the plate that time. Straighten him up a little bit. [Applause] Hard hit left side. Throw picked it first. Got him. Good stretch there to make the play. It looks like someone added a little yoga to their daily routine if you ask me. He’s two outs away. Next up for the A’s, Tyler Soderstrom. 0 for three with two strikeouts and a fly out. And that’s downstairs. Ball one. [Applause] ball to [Applause] there’s a strike. Good heater at 98. Just amazing to me how many closers and backend relievers just throw absolute gas these days. I never would have had a chance. Not close with that one. And the count is three and one. [Applause] [Applause] One down. Base is empty. Ground ball to the right side. Takes it himself now. Only one out remaining. Those plays can be tricky. They’re routine, but that doesn’t mean it’s always going to be smooth. He delivered a good play right there. Giorella steps in. [Applause] Swinging a foul out of play. The Athletics trailing by two here in the top of the ninth. [Applause] They’re down to their final strike. One strike away. Outside low. Now one and two. [Applause] Swing and a miss. Struck him out. And that is the ball game. 3-1 ball game. Quick game. We were looking for a little bit more. It seemed at points the offenses were going to break out, but a total of four runs combined. Really good pitching and defense on both sides. Just a couple of key swings making all the difference. And your final 3-1 for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shami. We’ll see you soon. Heat. Heat.
