MLB LIVE🔴 Houston Astros vs Oakland Athletics – Jul 25, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO

First pitch moments away. And today’s starter, Colton Gordon. And Chris, he’s a guy that gets better when things get tough. Well, he’s been a very dependable starter for his club. And what stands out for me is that left-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 against him. And it just tells me they have a hard time tracking the baseball. Maybe it’s the release point, maybe it’s the motion, but just some way somehow they’ve got to figure out a way to pick it up and try to have some success from the left side. Lawrence Butler leading things off and takes a strike. First pitch set off foul. Next offering is outside. Fouls it off. Still one and two. Cut on and miss. Curve ball struck him out. Well, classic pitch sequencing there to change eye levels for the punch out. That fast ball on the pitch before was off. It was very competitive and that gets you thinking that he might try to climb the ladder, but then the curveball out of that same tunnel just falls off the table and he can’t make contact. Next up for the A’s, Jacob Wilson. Fast for a strike. [Applause] And that one hit to first. He’ll do it himself. Two up, two down. Batting third. And time now to check out the A’s lineup. A really frustrating showing for them in their last game. Lots of traffic on the bases, but they left a ton of runners on base. Couldn’t cash in their chances. Chris, they had plenty of chances. There’s nobody to blame it on but themselves offensively. They just did a poor job converting in those situations. You have to figure out what’s your plan going to be. Maybe watch some tape from the last game. Make the adjustment. So if you get those opportunities in this one, you’ve got a much better chance of scoring some runs. Well struck right field and gone. Home run number 20 on the year and it gives him the lead in the first. It’s one- nothing. [Applause] With a low 90s fast ball, you have to live on the edges and hit your spots. If you don’t, you’ll get hit hard. Really good swing there. Patient, waited for it. It was like BP all over again. And there’s a foul ball. Two out. Space is empty. [Applause] Hot shot to first base and he snags it to end the inning. The A’s get one on this homer. It’s an early one- nothing lead. You’re dialed into the show. Back here with my pal Singi towing the slab in today’s game, Jacob Lopez. Well, it hasn’t been a great year so far in terms of erra, but he’s had some decent games and there have been some flashes of greatness, if you will. We’ll see today if he’s able to get ahead of hitters and perhaps get some swings and misses, put himself in a position to bring that erra down because, you know, in the back of his mind beyond the W, he wants to have a better earned run average. Let’s go Astros. The one ball right now behind in the count. Two balls and no strikes. No free passes. You can’t allow that. That one misses and it’s three and0. There’s the strike. [Music] Fast ball in for a strike. Three and two now. Full count. This to third. Let’s go. handles, throws to first, one gone, bottom half of the first. Now we check out the Astros lineup. They do a lot of things well in this offense, Singi. They control the strike zone. They make pitchers work hard for outs and as a result, one of the better OBP teams in the league. Well, what I love about it is it’s an organizational philosophy. Whether you go to instructional league, whether you go to spring training, you see these players even during batting practice when it doesn’t matter. practicing that type of approach boo and when you have that filtering through the organization even when you call up a player they step right in and continue with the pattern that they have established at this level which ultimately leads to a lot of success you know you translate on base percentage it’s basically this teams that have a high on base percentage they don’t make outs at a very high rate as my buddy Joe Sheen says OBP is like two strikes got him swinging. Oh, I’m not sure what he was waiting on right there. He got the change up and still laid on it. You rarely see that. It almost makes you think that he was trying to set the pitcher up. I mean, if you can’t catch up to the off speed stuff, there’s no way you’re going to touch a fast ball. Victor Keratini at the plate now. That’s ball one. And the lefty kicks, delivers. Fly ball down the line and that will drop. Foul. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. And now two balls in a strike. swing. Get a ball popped up. Kurts drifts towards it and makes the play and that’s out number three. Astros go down 1, two, three. They’re down one- nothing. Top of the second and now the catcher comes up to him. Jay Langers Gordon back to work upstairs. He really committed to that fast ball up at the top of the zone. He knows that if he makes a mistake in the zone, it gets hit hard by a power guy like this. That’s a nice miss right there. Our play by Freddy Ferguson. up the middle. Short fires to first on the run and very nicely done for the out. I love how guys at this level are able to slow the game down whether it’s in the batters box or on defense. And right there, that was a good job of knowing just how much time he had. We talk about that internal clock. He was able to gather himself, get a good grip, and make an accurate throw across the diamond. Ground ball right side. Matthews to first. He’s up two up, two down in the top of the second. I’m impressed with this guy’s internal clock. He knew he had plenty of time to take that extra step, secure his grip on the baseball, and make a strong, accurate throw. Here’s Miguel and Duhar inside ball one. [Applause] Nope. Well, I think he’s trying to get a feel for where that one missed. I mean, it could have gone either way, but he looked a little shocked for a second there. Line drive, makes the grab, and that’s the inning. And the A’s are gone in order, but they’re on top one- nothing back here in Houston. And now it’s Christian Walker. First baseman, Christian Walker. Let’s go. [Music] And a foul ball. gets the slider in there for a strike. Well, he had a pretty good look at that pitch and not sure exactly what tied him up there. Couldn’t pull the trigger and perhaps the best pitch you’ll see in this at bat to hit. Close but called a ball. Two balls, two strikes. Now, as a pitcher, when you make a big pitch down around the knees and don’t get the call, it’ll lead at you out there. So, some handle it a little bit better than others. And right here, clearly letting the ump hear it a little bit. Ripped to short, tosses to first. That’s one out in the bottom of the second. Batting fifth, left fielder Taylor. Here’s Taylor Trel. [Applause] Pitch is in there. Strike one. One out. Base is empty. [Applause] And it’s one and one. That’s the ball. [Applause] One one that one missing inside. [Applause] [Music] That’s outside. Now three and one inside ball and that’s how they get their first base runner of the game. Pretty easy walk right there. Last pitch wasn’t even much to think about. Here’s Mauricio Dubon. [Applause] [Music] check. Swing. Makes contact, but that’s fouled. Fouled off left side. man at first. One away. [Music] He goes down looking. And now the center fielder, Chaz McCormick. This kid a 21st round pick out of Millersville University in Pennsylvania. [Music] Trel off of first with two away. [Music] that misses off the outside edge. Really good take, especially with two strikes. Fights that one away. Still one and two. Swing at a line drive. That’s a base hit into center field. And now first and second with two outs. Well, he found himself behind in the count right there, but he didn’t give in. That’s about as textbook as it gets. Got his stride and load out of the way early. He stayed inside that ball and squared it up out front. Man, that was like he was in the cage hitting off a T. So, up next, Bryce Matthews. [Applause] First pitch just misses. One and0. [Applause] And another ball. Could be some action here on this next pitch. Couple runners on. Probably a challenge pitch coming. Tying run in scoring position. Bottom half of inning number two. Swing and a miss. Strike one. There are very few counts in today’s game where you can just fullon expect a fast ball. I mean even two. Perfect example right there. Next offering is downstairs. Zack Short in the deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Yeah, that’s fouled off. So, both runners should be on the move here on the full count pitch. Yeah, this is a good chance to tie up this ball game. See if he can find some open grass in the outfield. Swinging a foul ball at the plate. They’ll do it again. [Applause] Two on, two outs. Fouled off again and it remains three and two [Applause] in the air on the infield. Brings it in and that will end the inning. Two left for the Astros and it remains one- nothing. Back here at Dy Park out of the third inning now Maxy Gordon measures 6’4 in 225 lbs and he was drafted in the eighth round in 2021. Man, I mean nice job just presenting it to be better than it actually was. The one-1 ground ball right side and it goes just foul. [Music] Not close with that one. And the count is two and two. gets a piece and stays alive. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. That’s that classic wipeout slider below the zone right there. Just nasty. Looks like a fast ball thigh high that you got to protect the zone and then it’s just that late break that fools you and kind of makes you look silly. Here’s Luis Oas. That’s out to center field. McCormack makes the catch. Two away. Now batting. Lawrence Butler up next for the A’s. Struck out swinging his first time. Swains and misses. 0 and one. 0 and one. [Applause] That’s a little bit low. So, a foul ball makes it one and two. And that one upstairs. Swing and a miss. And he struck him out. And a nice inning of work there as he sets him down. One, two, three. A’s go quickly and quietly there, but they lead it one to nothing. Back here in Houston as we go to the last of the third and stepping in for the Astros, Zack Short. That one in there across the letters [Music] in there at the knees and the count is 0 and two. All right. Now, he may have not liked either of those first two pitches or agreed with the umpire’s calls, but at this point, he’s going to have to bear down and be ready to hit anything close to the zone. To the right side, Kurts steps on first for the out. Good fade and sinking action to that change up. Got that hitter to roll over. Batting number 11. Now it’s going to be Cam Smith. Grounded out his first time. That one close rule to ball. Ball one. [Applause] On the ground. Sends it across to first and two straight set down to begin the bottom of the third. Now batting designated Jose up here. Went down on strikes his first time through. That’s in for a strike. Misses the zone for a ball. That was the sweeper. Next pitch in for a strike at a count one and two. Foul ball left side. He’ll see another one and two now. Altuveet waits and a swing and a miss. And that’s that. One, two, three. Go. The Astros still behind by a count of one to nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. out of the fourth and the batter will be the shortstop. Jacob Wilson fouled off. He was late and ball one. One ball, one strike out in front and fouled to the left side. Short hop liner. Handled it short. Throw to first. Nicely done for the Owl. [Applause] Next up for the A’s, Nick Curts. He’s already homered here in this one. Swinging a foul back. That’s out of play. A’s leading by a run. And strike two. That pitch started in and ended up on the outside edge. just changing planes and very difficult especially for a left-handed hitter to track. And that’s downstairs and outside. And there’s a ball and a foul ball. He stays alive. Here’s a 2-2. Swings through it and that’s a strike out. He came out of his mechanics there. Typically likes to shoot the ball the other way, but that timeated little anxious. Brent Rooker. Brent Rooker up next for the A’s. 0 for one so far. That misses the zone and that’s ball one. [Music] And another ball. Well, usually a high level of confidence when you’re facing a young pitcher out there on the mound. In this situation, ahead 200, he’s put himself in a really good spot. Breaks his bat and pops it up. Keratini makes the play and that is that. Nothing doing there for the A’s, but they hold a one- nothing lead. Bottom four. And here’s the catcher, Victor Keratini. Catcher, Victor Keratini. inside. Almost got him. Wow. [Music] Heck one. The 1-1 is fouled off. [Music] That one the other way and out number one on the grab. That swing right there tells me he’s seeing the ball pretty well. I know it didn’t produce a hit, but he made solid contact, and that’s all you’re looking to do anytime you’re at the plate. And here now is the Astros cleanup hitter, Christian Walker. 0 for one. He grounded out in his first at bat. That misses the zone and it’s one and0. The Athletics leading by a run. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. on the corner for a strike. [Music] Now fly ball to right center. Touches down. That’s a hit. Makes the turn and heads for second. The throw to second is offline. Put a pretty good jolt into that one. Great swing. Nice balance and weight transfer. And he got it to drop in out there in the deep part of the field. Now at the plate, Taylor Treml walked his first time. Ball one, no strikes. [Applause] Walker over at second, one down. Well, this is a little tough for the hitter in the back of the mind. You’re wondering with first base open, am I going to get a pitch to hit? You got to stay back. Let your hands work. Stay in the middle of the field. [Applause] That one miss. That’s good pitch there. Billy had some run and finished little up and in just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, he had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. And ball four to second walk of the game for him. And he’s been really patient at the plate, the game plan that he’s sticking to. He’s just not going outside of what he’s looking for up there. Two on, one out. Mauricio Dubon the next to hit. Went down looking on three pitches last time. Let’s see if he can be a little more aggressive right here. [Applause] Swing and a popup. Foul territory for the catcher. Drops into the glove and there’s two away. Chaz McCormick up next for the Astros. One for one with a single so far. McCormick. [Applause] That’s in there. And it’s 0 and one. Smash to center way back and you can forget it. Home run. [Applause] That should get the dugout going. It’s 3-1. Chris, we knew this moment was coming for him soon. Yep. And it finally came. We knew it was only a matter of time before he was going to connect with one just like that. Just too good of a hitter at the plate. Well, he put a really nice swing on that one and everything was on time. Took a direct path to the ball. Excellent extension and just drove it out of here. Nothing better than when the ball jumps off your bat like that. So, two down. So, next up for Houston, Bryce Matthews. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. [Applause] And that one is in for a strike. Good pitch. [Applause] And it’s fouled away in the dirt. Two balls, two strikes. [Applause] stays alive. [Applause] Almost got him. Foul ball and it remains a full cow. Slice the other way. That’s a base hit. So he battled through a long at bat and earned himself a hit. Now batting shortstop manager out of the dugout and he’s going to make a change. Jacob Lopez gives way and he’s not going to be happy with himself. New pitcher on the mound in a moment. Now pitching for the number 50 gets handed the rock out of the pen. He last pitched two days ago. Now it’s Zack Short [Applause] and first offering is fouled off. [Applause] The Athletics have some bullpen action. JP Sears appears to be getting loose. Nukem getting cranked up as well. [Applause] swings and misses. Struck him out. But the biggest swing of the inning comes right here. A three-run homer. It’s now a 3-1 ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. We go to the top of the fifth. Here’s the power hitting catcher Shay Langalers. Gordon back to work. Lays out, but he can’t squeeze it. No throw. And they catch a break as they get a base runner at first. Seems like he got exactly what he was looking for right there. That’s one of those you classify as just too hot to handle. Hit it on the screws and it couldn’t be fielded cleanly. But you can’t really blame the defense in that case. Sod stands in now and watches strike one. You know, these A’s, as this game goes on, have to be more disciplined at the plate. So many of their outs have come from weak contact on pitches. They’re chasing outside of the strike zone. You can’t do much of anything with those locations. And that’s been true again today. And now the count is even. And as a pitcher, when the hitters are swinging at everything, you feel no need to challenge inside the zone. You just keep working the corners and expanding that strike zone and beyond and they just keep eating right out of your hand. And that’s in for a strike. Runner at first with no outs here. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. He picks up his fifth strike out on the hill. Well, that’s the money maker right there. Two strikes slider down and away from a same side thrower as the hitter. I mean, that’s just tough. You’re looking to protect with two strikes and very difficult to lay off. And Duhar batting with one down takes the strike. 0 and one. [Applause] swing and a miss. I think he was sitting off speed there. That misses and the count is one and two. His understanding of the strike zone very impressive. That was a very close O2 fast. I just don’t know how you take that. Snap throw to first. Landelers dives and can’t get back in time. He’s picked off. Wow, that can be so tough. Left-hander with that leg picks it up and can dangle it in the air a little bit and you’re not quite sure. Really good move over and you can’t blame the base runner for getting picked off on that one. Two down, nobody on. And we’re in the top of the fifth. This one popped up right side. Matthews settles under it. He’s there. He’s got it. And that is that. We head to the bottom of the fifth. Now it’s the right fielder Cam Smith. Number 11. Swing and a miss as he was late that time. It might be time to choke up a little bit. Get that front foot down early. Maybe even just spread out. He’s really late right now. up the middle and it finds its way through for a hit and the lead off man aboard. Here’s the former MVP Jose Altuve who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. [Music] [Applause] Look out. You hit him. And it hit him. First and second. No outs. Mick Caratini at the plate. Both two in this one. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. He’s looking for a strike out or a ball on the ground for a double play to sort of calm this situation down. And that one fouled off. Well, he missed a hitable offspe pitch right there. Not sure exactly with the timing. Sometimes you get a backup breaking ball, you’re expecting it to make its move at the end, it never does, and you’re tied up. [Applause] [Music] Foul ball still a one and two count. First and second, no outs. Last half of inning number five. Let’s go. Hit on the ground. Might be two. Kurts lost the second. Back to first double play 363. Nicely done. For me, that’s one of the toughest double plays to turn on the infield. The first baseman has to get inside, create a throwing lane to hit that middle infielder to start the double play and then from there completing it back to first. Really good job all the way around. Christian Walker up next for the Astros. One for two. Go. That one is hammered right field. That’s back there. He brought it back. He did a great job of going back right away. Had a perfect angle at the end. Leaping catch. Robs the home run. They’re fired up in the dugout the way he ended this inning. And we’re back. Start of the six. John Shami with Chris Singleton. And leading off, Maxy. Come on. That one to first. Walker takes it to the bag. leadoff man retired in the six. Now batting second base Luis Urias. So digging in Luis Urias fly to center his first time. He’s controlling things out there on the mound. Not messing around at all. He’s been in attack mode since the very start. Misses just off the outside edge. I think that was a strike. How about this one, Boo? In 2023, Aras hit grand slams for Boston in back-to- back plate appearances. It happened on different days, but he still became the first Red Sox player to do it since Jimmy Fox in 1940. [Applause] Ball. The A’s trailing by two. And we’re in the top half of the sixth. And that one finds its way through. Well, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. So up next, Lawrence Butler. And that one popped in the air left field. Trel under it. Hauls it in for the out number two. Now batting number five, Jacob Wilson. Up next for the A’s. The emmo for him is contact. A guy who’s going to deliver average. Not a ton of power. He’s looking to hit a line drive somewhere. Well, that’s why it’s a team. And when you look at a lineup, he’s a great two-hole hitter or a guy that you could put at the bottom to help. Now, this one is hammered way back there on its way and gone. And we are tied. A gigantic blast. It’s 33. He only needed one swing to square it up. Not wasting any time in that at bat. Boo. Aggressive and it paid off. So Singy, this is a little bit of a surprise. A guy known for line drives hits one over the fence. Well, if you’re a little too early, you’ll get some elevation in the ball. out of the ballpark for him. It’s kind of a mistake, but you know what? When you have such a good approach, every now and then you’re going to run into one. And the batter now, Nick Curts, and the first offering is not close, [Applause] two outs. And that’s in for a strike. And now it’s even one and one. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Hector Nerys, the veteran right-hander appears to be loosening up. Abrau getting loose as well. [Applause] So a foul ball makes it one and two. [Applause] line to left and it stays fair around first and hustling for second. The throw in in there. That’s a double. There he is coming through with a knock right there. I like the fact that he can pick him up and put him down a little bit. First baseman aren’t known for the speed, but see him get that extra base hit there. Now he’s in scoring position. Go ahead run on base. Now here is Brent Rooker in there at the knees for a strike. Oh and one [Applause] man on second. Two down and that’s outside and that is ball one and one. [Applause] missed inside with the curb. Man, oh man, I don’t know how you take that pitch. That’s as close as it gets. Still two and two after the foul ball. Keeps the atbat going with a foul ball. Curts at second with two down. in the air right field. Smith sizes this one up and that’s the third out. The A’s with a two-run blast. We’re tied now at three a piece. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Bottom of the six and now Taylor. And he pumps in a strike. Action in the pen down there. JT Gin, the rookie right-hander, is getting loose. Pedo, a hardthrowing right-hander up as well. You did it. And that one hammered way back and it backs off the foul pole. Home run. And the Astros jump in front. It’s 43. He just sent this stadium into a frenzy. They’re going nuts. [Applause] Well, he really crushed that thing down the line and everyone had to hold their breath until it flanked off the pole. And every time that happens, it just kind of feels like a trip shot or something. But really, it’s just a stroke of luck that it stays fair long enough. Dubong in the box now. No balls in a strike. Dubon measures 6 feet even, 30 years old now and he was born in Honduras. [Applause] Next offering is in for a strike. Looked pretty good as far as being in the strike zone, but I’m sure as a hitter not too good with where it was located. Very top of the strike zone. Middle away. [Music] chases the change up in the dirt. Langelers collects, fires to first. Got him one away on the strike out. Kez McCormack now at the plate. He’s already homered in this game. [Applause] And first off is fouled off. top of the zone for a called strike. [Applause] Next offering upstairs, [Applause] fly ball to right. makes the catch for the out and there’s two down. Now batting second base. Two outs. Base is empty. Bryce Matthews up next for the Astros. First pitch misses. He was late there. Strike one. This guy’s got such a good sinker. As a hitter, you’ve got to look up in the zone. If you look down, you’re going to be chasing stuff in the dirt. Outside low and a count two and down on strikes he goes. And he’s registered three Ks in this one. Astros notch a run on the solo homer. It’s now a 43 ball game. Back after this on the show. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound. Hector. Well, the best relievers love the opportunity to come in and protect a tight lead late in the ball game. Some of them are just wired different. So, we’ll see what he’s got here. [Applause] Langalers in now. Takes ball one off the plate. [Applause] Swaging a chopper. whips it across and the lead off intercept down to open the seventh. If you want to be a great defense, you have to deliver consistently. It doesn’t matter how many highlight reel plays you make if you can’t execute the small stuff. Just like we saw, Tyler Sodstrom up next for the A’s. That one drilled left field. No trouble here. Puts it away for the eye. Well, there’s two away. Well, off the bat, it looked like they might get that tying run on base. Maybe even extra bases. No dice, though. A little unlucky on that one. [Applause] Fouled off down the right side. And that’s ripped into left. Base hit. So a two out knock keeps the inning alive. He was all over that one. That’s a good sound coming off the bat, man. And as he connected out front and ripped it into the outfield. That’s one of those swings where you just don’t even feel the ball hit the barrel. That’s a pure stroke. Two outs, runner at first. Maxy up next for the A’s. Just miss with the tying run at first base. He’s looking for something he can get a lot of barrel on. Driving into a gap and score that run from first base. Let’s go Astros. No, that’s out with the go ahead run at the plate here in the top half of inning number seven. Delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. Typically, the outfield defense will play a little bit deeper just to keep the ball in front. Make sure that runner on first doesn’t come all the way around to score and tie this ball game up. Way out front for strike two. Two and two. Heat. [Applause] Heat. [Music] [Applause] spoils that one and it remains two and two. Swing and a miss. Got him to go up the ladder for the K. The A’s strand one. Score holds at 4-3. [Applause] [Applause] bottom of the seventh and stepping in for the Astros, Zack Short. hammered down the right side but foul. Yoan, the shorts stop takes a ball. One- one. Next offering is down low. He had a foul ball to the right side. He takes it on his own and they get the leadoff hitter in the seventh. Now batting number 11. And now the right fielder Cam Smith. First offering and it just misses. Base is empty, one away here in the bottom of the seventh. Swing and a miss and the count one and one. Oh, that’s that slerf right there. He threw it extremely well. Talk about just a ton of breaks. So tough to get that barrel to. This one popped off. Wilson and he makes the catch and they’re two down. Now batting designated hitter Jose Altuve. Two down, base is empty and here is Jose Altuve. A little out front there as he swings through it. Filthy chase up right there. Just pulled the string. late on that fast ball. Man, this has been a real important inning in relief. I mean, so far they’ve been doing a great job holding that deficit at one. Just missed the inside corner. Now one and two strikes. swaying and a ball popped in the air and that’ll fall for a base hit. And with the inning still alive, here comes the heart of the order. Really nice job of two strike hitting in that. I don’t know how he was able to shoot that pitch the other way and still put something on it. That pitch was inside and he let it get really deep. So, pretty incredible hands to fight it off and still get good wood on it. And now it’s going to be Victor Keratini way upstairs. And that’s ball one. One and one. Next offering is fouled back. Cut on and missed. And it’s a strikeout. And that is the inning. One left for Houston and it remains a 4-3 game. Now pitching. Welcome back and a new arm of the mound to start the eighth. These are the spots relievers really make a name for themselves late and close. There’s not much margin for error, but at the same time, there’s a reason they’re put in these situations. Leading off the one- run game, Luis Rios digs in now. [Applause] Right through there for a strike. [Applause] Looking to get the tying run on base. No, that missed. That’s a ball. That’s way outside. Two and one. And that is out of play. [Applause] That’s off the mark. Three and two now. Lawrence Butler in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. [Applause] Highfly ball out towards left center. McCormack pulls it in on the run. That’s just a really nice catch on the run right there. He saved extra bases for sure. If the pitcher’s his friend, he’ll give him a second to catch his breath before he’s ready to deal the next pitch. [Applause] Butler in the box now takes strike one. Wow, just a beautiful back door slider right there. If you’ve got any chance of hitting that pitch, you have to wait until the absolutely last millisecond. Just a tough pitch to hit and not an easy one to throw either. Next pitch is downstairs. Holding on to a one-run lead and we’re in the top of the eighth. [Applause] Swing and a miss and he is down on strikes for the third straight at bat. Oh, tough night at the dish. Punching out for the third time right there. He just hasn’t looked very comfortable at the plate. A little unsure of his timing right now. not picking up the spin and location of these pitches. They’ll have some adjustments to make. Next up for the A’s, Jacob Wilson. And the first pitch misses for ball one. You see the velocity 97 with that fast ball. A swing and a miss as he chases way out of the zone. That one misses in the dirt. Hats and misses. It’s a strike out. And one, two, three go the A’s. They still trail it here. Four to three. [Applause] Now pitching for the back now. New pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth. JT Gin. Just trying to keep this one close here. And this is where a bullpen can give their players a chance to fight back into the game. And here’s the first baseman, Christian Walker. One for three. Christian Walker. And a fast ball misses outside for a ball. One and0. The 1-1 is fouled off. fouls it off. Still one and two. [Music] Two two [Applause] swing and a miss. struck him out and one gone. Now batting, here’s the left fielder, Taylor Trl. Taylor [Applause] that just misses ball one. The A’s bullpen has some movement. JP Sears up and loosening in the pen. Beo also throwing. And that’s pushed foul off to the left and out of play. One down. Base is empty. Right side. Sneaks through base head. [Applause] Up next for the Astros. So a man at first. And now Mauricio Dub for three in this one. First pitch and he just misses. Runner on the goal. Draining a miss. Throw to second and he’s out. Man, I see him trying to be aggressive right there late in this ball game. Try to add on to that lead. You know, I really like the thought, but it just didn’t work out that time. Nice job by the defense right there to keep things right where they are in terms of the score. Fast ball is outside. Two down, nobody on here. The bottom half of the eighth inning. line drive, makes the grab, and that’ll end the inning. Nothing doing there for Houston, but they hold on to a 4-3 lead. Now, pitching back now. And on the mound, a closer, Josh her. He’s having a ton of success facing left-handed hitters this season, so this seems like a smart move to turn to him with a lefty at the plate. And now the first baseman, Nick Curts. First baseman number 16. [Applause] That misses and it’s one and0. [Applause] and fouled off. Well, he got challenged with a good fast ball right there. Just couldn’t catch up. [Applause] Next pitch. Not close. Up high. [Applause] Comes up empty. That’s strike two. Two balls, two strikes. And that’s down and away. Brent Rooker in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Out towards left center. McCormick trying to get there. One away. He’s two outs away now. The A’s designated hitter. Brent Rooker. Corner infielders guarding the lines trying to prevent extra bases. [Applause] Missed with a change up. And that’s ball one. Really close pitch down around the knees there. And you could see him asking where it missed. Probably doesn’t agree, but it appears he’s ready to move on to the next pitch. A swing and a miss. And that’s strike one. Just amazing to me how many closers and backend relievers just throw absolute gas these days. I never would have had a chance. Chases that one upstairs. Yeah, I don’t think anyone’s got good numbers swinging pitches in that location. And that’s a strike out looking now. Only one out remaining. Well, I think that was just a case of a hitter quitting on a pitch. He was looking fast ball and didn’t see it out of the hand and just left the bat on his shoulder. That was a change up right over the plate. Probably not the location he was looking for, but the change of speeds is what fooled him and he got the out. Now a chance for Shay Langalers. Pitch misses and that is ball one. [Applause] There’s the strike. 95 of that one. They’re down to their final strike. [Applause] hater is just one strike away and a sling and a miss and that is the ball game. Well, this was a tightly played game. Got a little of everything. Some timely hitting, runs on the board, key pitching and defense in certain spots. Definitely a fun one to watch. And the final score here, 43. They hang on to win it by a run. For Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB The Show, I’m John Shami. We’ll see you soon. Heat. Heat.
